The grounds of this hotel’s compound are absolutely phenomenal. The staff is available and ready for everything you might need before you know you need it. I would highly recommend booking a stay for multiple nights to enjoy the spa and the museum in between exploring the city of Antigua. Very pleased!

We loved our stay here! We got lost finding our room at first but didn’t mind because there was SO much to see! The hotel is within walking distance of many attractions.

The hotel was clean, beds comfortable, and pool was great.

We were even upgraded to a room with a view of the volcano!

Every corner tells a story, and every detail feels thoughtfully preserved and lovingly presented.
The museum exhibits are fascinating and diverse, blending colonial art, archaeological treasures, and contemporary pieces in a way that feels natural and inspiring. I loved how the ruins themselves are part of the display — it makes the history feel alive rather than distant. The gardens are breathtaking, perfect for slowing down, reflecting, and simply soaking in the atmosphere. It’s one of those rare places where you don’t feel rushed; instead, you’re invited to wander and truly connect.
What made my visit especially memorable was the sense of calm and wonder I felt throughout the entire experience. Casa Santo Domingo manages to be grand yet intimate, educational yet deeply emotional. I left feeling inspired, grateful, and completely in love with Guatemala’s rich cultural heritage. The hotel itself is very nice, with a pleasant atmosphere and well-kept facilities. The front desk staff was especially friendly and welcoming, which made check-in and the overall stay enjoyable.

However, the experience at the restaurant was disappointing. The restaurant staff lacked friendliness and attentiveness toward hotel guests. While it’s understandable that the restaurant may be busy due to weddings or being a popular tourist spot, hotel guests should still receive more attentive and courteous service. Unfortunately, there was a noticeable lack of service and engagement.

Overall, the hotel has great potential, but improving the restaurant service and staff friendliness would significantly enhance the guest experience.

I thought checking in there was a VIP welcome or something like tht with the room. I saw others receive it. Instead, I checked in with a colleague and learned they had breakfast included and I did not. I was paying a higher \"VIP\" rate. So not welcome drink. And no breakfast. Whatever.

Its a nice facility. Unfortunately the glass museum is closed and the pharmacy museum was closed. So there was jsut the colonial art and silver.

Hoepfully it will improve.

This is probably the best hotel in Antigua. They think about everything! It was built in what used to be a monastery, beautiful art and historic pieces in every corner. The hotel plays classical music everywhere, the halls smells like a peaceful haven, every corner is magical. The restaurant has a varied menu with delicious options, the staff are respectful and kind. I would come back 100 times if possible! Thank you for making my birthday an unforgettable experience.

The room was gorgeous, best views of the volcanoes. Spotless. Staff checked the room twice a day.
The front desk staff was wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating.
The restaurant setting is beautiful with great food.
The grounds are beautiful and the spa was soul renewing.

Disappointing Experience – Not a Luxury Hotel
Our stay at Santo Domingo was far from what we expected for a hotel charging nearly $400 a night. Check-in took over 40 minutes and no one offered to help with our bags. Upon arrival, we were told the room we booked wasn’t available but that we were “upgraded” as Expedia VIPs. The so-called deluxe suite was spacious but dark, humid, and certainly not worth the premium price.

Breakfast service was just okay — despite having a reservation, our table wasn’t ready and staff scrambled to accommodate us. Checkout was just as frustrating, with another 40-minute wait for someone to assist with our luggage.

To make matters worse, we were told that we couldn’t have “visits” in our suite — a policy never mentioned when booking — which meant explaining to my 70-year-old parents that they couldn’t stop by while our 3-year-old napped.

Overall, the service was more in line with a hostel than a luxury hotel. Unless the property makes significant improvements, I’d strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

The property is so beautiful, it is a destination unto itself with several museums, ruins, a crypt and antiquities everywhere.

The room was immaculately clean and I splurged, so I had a dining room, living room and jacuzzi, along with a double rain shower stall which was amazing. The bed was really comfortable and I got a very good night's sleep.

I ate at the Refectario, and the food was delicious and the service impeccable. The staff wants to please the guests, and that is very appreciated.

I had a disappointing experience at the spa, but the spa manager immediately offered me a discount for my treatment, which was fine.

The one comment I would make for English speaking travelers coming to Antigua, you will need to understand basic phrases in Spanish or it will be very challenging for you to get around. Most people I met, including the hotel staff, know very little English.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The service was amazing and we ate the breakfast every morning and swam in the pool several times a day.
All of the views from the room were amazing. The hotel was clean and smelled great. The layout of the room and the amenities were thoughtful and it seemed like there was a lot of details added to make the guests comfortable.
Everyone we spoke to was kind and helpful. It was great to be able to charge everything to our rooms, whether at the pool or in the room.
The whole environment was relaxing and made me feel like I was having an authentic experience and not just sleeping in a room.
The rooms had very good internet speeds for working or gaming. They brought by several bottles of water a day and always supplied fresh towels. Highly recommend.
