But the room was very very basic.

Water pressure was very bad. Cracked wall tiles, windows that wouldn't close properly (causing a smell of smoking coming in the window..

Lift was slow.

It was local to the places we needed to be and the price wasn't bad for London...

The hotel was fine for what we needed, however it does seem a bit tired and in need of a revamp. The duvet was far too thick for the time of year. Bed was okay, but could've used better/more pillows. Window didn't open, but a fan was provided. Shower height far too low, I'm 5ft9 and didn't fit under it, my 6ft4 husband had no chance.

the room was dirty. floor filthy . smelt of mould and damp
shower was mouldy sink hot water tap did not work i.e. no hot water . beds very uncomfortable.
carpets outside were disgusting.
no power socket near the kettle we balanced it on the radiator . ( not safe at all.)
door lock did not work you have to pull the door shut and double lock to close.
web site advertise bar / restaurant / breakfast this does not exist .
web site said extensive refurbishment but only if this was done back in the sixty's.
photos on the web site are a blatant LIE .. none of this is true.
i have stayed in hotels / inns / and b&b's all over the world and this rates as one of the worst . will never stay again and never. i state never stay there spend your hard earned money elsewhere. overpriced and a dump . I hope this helps others steer clear.

It was a quaint, cozy stay. The beds were very comfortable after our overnight flight and sightseeing for the day. Bathroom needed a curtain and a fan for circulation. Not a lot of outlets either but overall, we enjoyed it.

Excellent service and a great welcoming. The reception team are always smiling and are happy to help.

The room is not too bad. The room and bathroom were nice and clean, and the bed was comfortable.

The only issue is that the walls look worn out, but that wasn't a big problem for us.

A clean, friendly hotel and great value for money especially in London. There's a bus stop outside and you're about a 15 mins walk from the tube. Don't expect a top notch hotel but the rooms are clean, the beds comfy and the staff are friendly.

Absolutely stank of smoke and bad plumbing. We went to politely ask to change rooms and let them know about the smoke and he seemed annoyed and told us the smell was coming from the street. This wasn’t true as the street was empty and there were cigarette butts on the window sill. We weren’t able to change rooms. Mentioned it again in the morning to a different man at the desk and he just glared at us, no apology or offer of a refund / partial refund. The staff were really rude right from the start, apart from the cleaner who we passed in the hall - she was very smiley and friendly. We then tried to get a refund through Expedia but they couldn’t get through to the hotel to authorise it. I think this is the first time I have ever left a bad review.

First impressions, the building looks nice outside and reception area is pleasant. Check in was super simple, i got my key straight away with no fuss. The receptionist was very polite and well dressed. Unfortunately, the positives end there. The room was as i expected for the price, basic with a double bed and tea tray. Really old fashioned and in dire need of an update but fresh sheets and a reasonabley comfy bed. However, as soon as i let myself in to the room i was hit with the strongest smell of cigarettes. Totally overpowering and inescapable. I left the window wide open for a few hours but was afraid it might attract an intruder given it led right on to a busy street. I had a prior commitment to make so i was unable to change hotels and had to go out. When i checked out and got home the next day i had to wash every item i had with me as it reeked of cigarette smoke, i could even smell it on myself. So gross. This place is fine is you have low expectations and just need a place to put your head down for the night. I cant fault the staff or the location but....

The room was absolutely not as advertised on Hotels.com, much smaller, much less well appointed. Photos were lies. No sockets near the bed, which was quite an achievement in such a miniscule space. Old tired decor, old tired mattress. Bathroom main light didn't work, felt bad having to wake the night staff to get buzzed in as there is no unaided access even with a key.

Tiny room, old paint, old mattress, guilt, everything smelling of strange cleaning products: much more like visiting grandparents than staying in a hotel that cost money.

Horrible room

If the room had been clean and didn't smell of old cigarette smoke then it would of been okay enough to stay for the full duration I paid for but it wasn't

Upon entering the room I was greeted with the smell of damp and old cigarette smoke, when I looked around the room I found blood stains on the dial of the radiator, the wallpaper was falling off the wall and there was damp and mold around the shower in the bathroom.

I also found stains all over the floor, the TV remote did not work and I could hear every sound coming from both rooms next to mine and in the corridor

The only saving grace was the blackout curtains which allowed me to catch up on some sleep after not being able to all night

This is a good price for a very well situated accomodation. Very small room, but has all you need. Good shower. Very thin walls, could hear person next door on his phone, and the person he was speaking to, room was very hot. Cleaner was bashing about with a hoover at 8.45 am outside in corridor and in room next door. Seemed a bit unnecessary given check out at 11 and check in at 12. Would stay again as location good for me. Does the job. Do t expect luxury, but it doesn’t offer it.

I booked for one night, I rang to let them know what time I'd be arriving to check it was ok. I was told the desk was manned 247. When I arrived no one was there and no one was answering the phone either. It was late, I was exhausted and all I needed was somewhere safe to rest. I was stood outside for 20ish mins, football fans were waiting to get in too. I was the only woman, on my own, on the street not knowing. There was no sign with information as to where he had gone. (He had gone to the shops).
The room was fine enough.

The excellent staff could not really make up for the inadequacies in my room alas.
The shape of the room meant that floor space was lost as bed was pushed into a triangular corner.
The shower cubicle was old and grubby and the cubicle doors really only appropriate for a malnourished child. Suggestion: make bathroom a wet room!
Kettle flex was not able to reach plug and meant tea/coffee making was a trip hazard.
Gap in curtains allowed light to shine direct in face.

Rudest Staff Ever

I arrived at around 11pm and was on a work call when I was outside. The receptionist told me he would not let me into the building because I was too loud. When he finally let me in, he shouted at me, threw the krr er y at me, and gave me the incorrect room number.

The room was tiny, noisy, and there were what appeared to be pubic hair over the quilt, which although was a single room, did not fit the bed, so the night was cold also.

Very run down and in need of repair. No hot water for shower in the morning.

It’s a good place to stop if your in London for work, it’s a good price and a comfy bed! It’s probably not the best quality for a full on holiday but great when needing to stay in Islington for a few days for work or to see family and freinds!

It was small and basic but comfortable and the staff are lovely. The only issue I had was the shower took a while for the water heating to work.

How is this 3 star?

I've never had as bad a stay at any hotel. Was confusion from the start as staff didnt understand I had booked a room and were saying they were fully booked. The hotel was unclean both in general and the room itself. It's the first time I've ever stayed in a room that was on a slope so the bed was laying on a downwards slope and was extremely uncomfortable. Only one pillow each provided for my partner and I.

The room was tiny with stuff crammed in. The plumbing system was extremely noisy and the shower would block meaning that you needed to stop it every few minutes to save flooding the room.

The hotel website says breakfast is provided but we were told nothing about this and upon leaving the staff barely acknowledged us. It was like something you would expect in a comedy show.

Never made a review as bad for a hotel before but it was unbelievable the amount of things that weren't right about this stay. Will never be back. Pictures make it look much better than what it is but how it gets a 3 star rating is beyond me.

I normally do not stay at places with lots of bad reviews, but i'm glad i gave Islington Inn a try. I stayed there for a weekend in July, for under £200, which is great for London.

The Inn is located in an up market area of London full of amenities. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place as a budget friendly option for a short trip, with great travel links to all London attractions :)

It’s converted from a pub maybe into cheap hotel but if you’re happy no frills it’s great. Clean bed / bathroom basic wardrobe.
And on direct 341 bus from Waterloo ! Great Sutton’s fish bar close by. Local supermarket groceries and green grocer.

The location was brilliant for us. We just jumped on a bus and we were in the centre of London. We are hoping to go back before Christmas and will definitely stay at Islington Inn.

What I would expect for the price

This was about what I expected for a £60 per night single room in London. Looked a bit tired and run down especially in the rather cramped corridors. Smelled vaguely of cig smoke and the bathroom smelled damp. Having said that the guy on the front desk was friendly, the bed was surprisingly comfortable, the blackout curtains were good so it was OK for my one night stay for a meeting. Be aware, as I read on another review, the shower cubicle really is tiny so if you are on the large side it could be a struggle

At first sight I was concerned about how good or bad this place was going to be. The public corridors are in desperate need of a lick of paint and new carpet but the rooms are very clean, if a little old fashioned.

Ultimately, you get what you pay for; it isn't the Ritz but it's excellent value for the price (I've paid more and stayed in worse places).

A casserole of dirt, mould and damp depression...

This is by far the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in in the UK. A absolute pit. 6pm Saturday night, room next door was having a new shower cubicle installed, I thought at one point the plumber was trying to drill straight through the wall. Breakfast included mouldy & stale croissants, oh and supermarket value yogurts. The third attempt to kill me was the cleaner leaving the hoover across the corridor at the top of the stairs. Oh and the walls of room were covered in damp... I'm getting in touch with Islington Council environmental health about this pit of despair but if your thinking about booking it before I get the chance, book it at your peril...

The hotel was easy to find and in a great location. The traffic around the area though was horrendous! We had to check in late as we went to our concert first due to being in stuck in numerous traffic queues.The gentleman on reception was helpful, polite and had a good sense of humour! Our room, though small, was clean and comfortable if not a tad dated. Everything worked and we didn't hear any outside noise. The continental self service breakfast was perfectly adequate for our needs. We would like to also recommend the Hidden City treasure hunt which we did on the Sunday. Hugely enjoyable and you get to see parts of London off the beaten track. Whilst I'm reviewing, Union Chapel is an amazing and historical space to enjoy concerts and comedy.

The only issue i had with the room is everytime you flush the toilet, turn on the shower and sink water there is a foul smell coming out from the restroom. Not sure where its coming from. I saw they put a air freshener behind the trash container to mask the odor

Last minute budget stay

Booked at the last minute due to issue with another hotel so I was limited to the budget room - when I checked in, the man checking me in made a point of highlighting more than once that this was a budget room and he wasn't wrong. Located in the basement, you could hear footsteps at all times of the day and night so not good in terms of sleep quality. Unnecessary for someone to point out and highlight the fact that it's budget - it was £99 in London... it's obviously budget.
The room seemed clean. I couldn't get the TV to work and the bed was really not comfy at all.
I noticed that the window seemed to have some kind of wooden cover over part of it - my assumption being it had been smashed previously - so when I went out for dinner I had to take all valuables with me... just in case.
I didn't stay for Breakfast as frankly I wanted out of there.
It was cheap so served a purpose but could do with upgrading in places.
There was also an overpowering plug in air freshener which I immediately switched off, but the smell was difficult to get rid of - my guess is it was trying to mask other smells...
The staff were friendly enough - but I won't be going back
