Lovely, lovely venue. With only six suites they provide a personal level of service that is outstanding. The charming older building is well maintained and nicely furnished, with high ceilings an outdoor terrace overlooking the river. An excellent breakfast is included. One advisory - there is no elevator. Narrow circular stairs. Highly recommend!

Our room, Lola, is a work of art and so very spacious, with all the amenities to create a very comfortable stay. The view from the balcony is quite nice, and surprisingly quiet considering the proximity to the road. Antonio, and the entire staff, are very welcoming and helpful with any request. We could not have selected a more pleasant location which is within walking distance of several great restaurants and wine bars.

Wow! What a property, packed with history and antiques to delight. Our suite was the Lola suite, aptly named as we have a dog called Lola.
A large lounge, bedroom and bathroom to delight.
It was a genuine home from home, the staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was something else... taken on a balcony overlooking the river with an amazing view.
Check the photos for fine details of the interior with all its art and furniture.
100 percent will be our future go to place in Lisbon and a perfect location, surrounded by the areas bars and restaurants so there is something for everyone. Thank you to the team for your friendly service.

A lovingly restored old palace which keeps its heritage but nods to current-day comfort. The staff are courteous and helpful. Breakfast is an added treat. The only thing we found is that the surrounding area is safe but a little shabby … a minor drawback. Staff rates highest praise, being helpful and efficient. Not adequately disclosed in listing is that property must be styled inconveniently located, accessible through an uphill alley and flight of 25 steps. (Staff offered to assist up the stairs upon arrival.) After arrival, room was accessed up two floors on a tight spiral staircase, 27 additional steps. From the room, a terrace is only accessible by another open cast iron staircase of many steps. In general, the hotel may be described as \"Kitch,\" with mixture of antique, vintage and bizarre appointments, oddly arranged within an historic building. Complimentary continental breakfast was good. Best feature probably was a huge walk-in shower that could easily bathe 6 persons at once. Plainly, the appeal of this hotel is to a younger crowd, definitely not elderly nor mobility limited.

This is not like any hotel I have ever stayed at. This was more like going home and visiting family. Tiago and Chevier (probably spelled wrong) went out of their way to take care of us. We traveled far and were exhausted when we arrived before 10am. They quickly offered us breakfast while we waited for our room to be cleaned. They granted us entry to the room quickly. This is an older large home converted to a hotel with rooms. We stayed on the 3rd floor in the front facing suite. It was comfortable and had every amenity possible. I would stay here again and again. The breakfast was amazing and fresh juice and pastries can’t be beat. Breakfast on the terrace was like being in a movie. I chose the ride from the airport to the hotel by the driver service that they offered as I have read other drivers have had trouble finding it. It was a great experience all the way around.

Deceptive advertising and not worth the money. While the building is eclectic and curious in its own way, it is not “luxurious”, “exclusive” or “refined”. To get there from our Uber we had to walk through a filthy entrance, strewn with trash and fragrant of urine. I booked one of the more elegant seeming rooms on their website, with hardwood floors and grand windows, but they placed us in a dank attic room three flights up (with to no elevator) with carpet, little light, old unattractive furniture, and no historical detail. They eventually offered to move us, but at this point it was too late in evening to pack up and relocate. The staff are kind and the location in Alfama is convenient, but this is a two star experience with four star prices.

There is one downside, which is it is a bit hard to find and not all the taxi drivers know the location and how to get to the entrance. Once you know, it is a great find.

This is truly exceptional, in an early twentieth century palace with only six full suites (the luxury one on top with steps up to a 360-degree city view). It is on the river, in a fun neighborhood just north of the old city center, but itself quite historic with tile-fronted houses. The hotel/castle’s interior detail work and stain-glass windows are phenomenal. The service the most outstanding of all, and a delicious full breakfast, home-made and hot, served in any location desired. The entire large first floor is available for guests’ use, and the drawing room has an original very old globe to enjoy, as merely an example of all that has been saved as decor; the same for the original chandeliers. Do not miss this, if possible. Delightful, very special, far from the realm of even the most upscale hotels.

Do not stay in this hotel! We booked a room for three days. I soon as we checked in, we noticed a bad smell in our room. After 30 minutes we advised the manager the smell was so bad we could not stay there. The manager agreed there was a smell in the room, but said the refund was up to the top management. We left the hotel only to learn later that the hotel has a no refund policy and refused to give us any refund!
In addition, the hotel looks nothing like the pictures. It is old and rundown like a grandma house.

Beautiful property that is a bed and breakfast. Could be great if they altered what was served for breakfast. 5 days and the same thing served each day. They should also set out a bar or wine and beer and some snacks each afternoon. Asked for breakfast the night before at 7:20 one morning and had to leave for a tour without eating because it was not ready. While we enjoyed our stay, it is certainly not at the 5 star level. With a little staff training, menu adjustments and some additional amenities they could get close.

The front desk staff, Xavier, Tiago, Bruno and Danilo went out of there way to provide a wonderful experience from our arrival to our departure from carrying our luggage up the stairs, making reservations, and securing taxis. Breakfast was excellent every morning, and we were provided a boxed breakfast with cappuccinos the morning we traveled to Sintra. The tower room was lovely with an amazing two level balcony. The area around the hotel, Alfama, was so charming and authentic. It was the perfect beginning to our vacation.

This boutique hotel, which was a house previously, felt like a home to us. The decor was according to the period and was so unique. Our suite was very large and comfortable with several windows and doors that opened up to the streets of Alfama. The location was perfect. Out our door the street was closed to cars and was lined with restaurants that played Fado music. The best part was the staff! They made us feel special. The breakfast was stellar. We would definitely stay again.

This is not 5 star, 2 star at most, you need to walk through a dark alley with overflowing dumpsters, then you need to walk 20 dirty steps, there is a door in a dark allay with a doorbelll, i usually stay at 5 star properties, this was not one of them by any stretch of the imagination, false advertising, both expedia and the “ hotel” refused refund.

A magical stay in a historic home. Just 6 huge rooms with beautiful views, a luxurious home that will take you back. With stained glass windows and palatial dining rooms. The breakfast was also spectacular. There loads of stairs and access to the hotel is not easy, again many stairs, but it really adds to the charm of this hotel. Unique property, rooms are whimsical and funky, but it was a good use of an existing large room dimensions. For us, it was a lot of unused space.
The stairs both going up to the property and within the property were very challenging with the suitcases. Definitely not for the physically challenged. Vehicles can not drive up to the entrance. No elevators, Definitely not recommended for people with back or leg issues.
Staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful.
Breakfast and brunch was simple yet elegant and good quality; and whether outside with a view or indoors with graceful room design, it was a feast for the eyes.

This is a small palace with 6 spatious and clean rooms, some of them facing the river. A few steps away from Rossio / Pza do Comercio.
The design is quite eclectic but cool. Not noisy, if we compare to other \"hotel particulier\" samples. Nice staff and outstanding breakfast included.
The only regret is the lack of lift and parking.

I felt like i was in an old mansion with an art decor flair to the rooms. We stayed in the top unit with a roof top terrace with a 360 view of the old part of Lisbon. This hotel is a converted palace tucked away secretly at the base of Alfama, it is incredibly convenient, the room was spacious with a comfortable sitting area and the bathroom was very large. Hidden Gem in Alfama

This hotel located in Lisbon's Alfama district is the former home of a Portuguese man who made a fortune in Brazilian coffee. The hotel has only six rooms and feels like you've been invited to stay at the home of a rich relative, albeit one who hasn't made an updated design change since the 1920s. Enjoy it while you can. We understand the property has been purchased by Taylors, the port wine company, and will likely soon be converted to company events and such.

So we were left at the corner of a street with our luggages with no sign at all that were the hotel is located. It was only through Google map that we could find our way (people don't know English). There is no bellman to help you with the luggages and you need to climb around 20 stairs (the hotel is in hill top). When we arrived all lights were off and only one person was inside giving a spooky/scary feeling to this property. The person checked us in, showed us our room, and made breakfast for us! Very strange for 5 star hotel. There was a concert going on till 2am with loud music across from the hotel.
Pros: I should say that they upgraded us to their best unit and we had an amazing night despite all the hassles. The Unit was very modern and state of the art. They offered free minibar (coke, water, juce, beer) which was wonderful. The location is within old town Lisbon so you can stop by many Fado and restaurant places. We enjoyed our stay. Ricardo at the front desk was an amazing person and very kind/helpful.
I think the hotel is more 3 or 4 star and not 5 stars.

Incredible views. Wonderful location. Efficient and friendly staff. One of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed at. Our penthouse suite had three levels. The bathroom was huge. They have taken great care in preserving this old palacete, which sits on top of the first public water fountain in Lisbon.
