Very simple and truly lovely place. The staff were beyond gracious and so eager to be helpful. Francois in particular could not have been more generous in orienting us to the neighborhood and answering all our questions. The room was very large and drenched in light - worth the five flights of stairs. If you have mobility issues, contact hotel directly to book, as there are steps everywhere. , one day we left hand washed laundry hanging in the room. We returned to find it dry and ironed!! if you are looking for a glamorous, chic hotel, this is not the place for you. For us, star experience at a sweet simple hotel.

After traveling all over the world, I can honestly say that if I could give Solar dos Mouros more than five stars, I absolutely would.

From the moment we arrived, the customer service was beyond exceptional. A very special thank you to François and Rio, who truly made our stay unforgettable. They consistently went above and beyond even preparing breakfast for us two hours before regular service began because they knew we were heading to the airport early. That level of care is rare and deeply appreciated.

The rooms are spacious with beautiful high ceilings and breathtaking views. The location is perfect just steps from Castelo de São Jorge, and next door to the award-winning Santo André Pastelaria, known for its incredible pastries.

The hotel’s restaurant is also a must delicious food and some of the best sangria we’ve had. Breakfast was wonderful, with eggs, sausage, cheeses, salmon, croissants, and so much more.

I truly cannot say enough about the warmth and professionalism of the team. The people at this hotel are what make the experience so special.

A very warm welcome on our arrival, who offered us complimentary drinks after a long day travelling. We were shown our room on the 2nd floor (room 4) and it was spotless and was a very large room. Wonderful views of the river. All the front of house staff we saw were very friendly each time we saw them. I cannot comment on the breakfast or the food as we ate out during our stay. The hotel is up a hill but they have steps and a local elevator that takes you down to the lower level of Lisbon. But this didnt cause any problems for us but it may if you struggle with walking.
But we had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

I will start with the negative to end on a positive note.

This hotel is an old building with NO ELEVATOR. It is unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues or a heart condition. Our balcony suite was 82 steps up on the fifth floor (floor six in the US). I am giving it a one-star due to the lack of a clear warning about this.

The “suite” was an average room with no working station. The unshaded terrace had a southern exposure so it could not be used either on hot sunny days during peak temperatures (2PM to 6PM), or on rainy days. The bathroom had weak water pressure and it took three minutes to get hot water.

Now for the good. The spacious terrace featured a TRULY SPECTACULAR VIEW of the river. We didn't want to leave (not least because we would had to climb 82 steps to get back up.)

The staff were super friendly and helpful without exception. The complimentary port carafe in the room was a nice touch.

The location was a four-minute walk to Saint George’s Castle and a public elevator that saved seven floors of steps to town.

Hint: Skip the hotel breakfast. Plenty of nice eateries are nearby.

We stayed in the terrace suite, Santa Catarina. The view was literally the best view in Lisbon and we didn’t want to leave the patio. The staff was amazing and they took care of the luggage, but still a bit of up and down and not great if you have mobility issues. Only drawback was 5-6 flights of stairs and no elevator. The location was excellent for exploring Lisbon’s neighborhoods and had a lovely terrace overlooking the city. It is minutes from the São Jorge Castle and has cafes and restaurants nearby. Throughout the four days we were there, the staff was very attentive and focused on ensuring we were satisfied with our stay. At our request, they booked hotel transfers both from the airport to the hotel and then back to the airport at the end of our stay. The transfers allowed us to be dropped off and picked up at the hotel (vs Ubers which are restricted from the neighborhood). We will stay there again on our next trip to Lisbon!

This little hotel was fantastic! After check in, they brought us to the terrace for a complimentary drink. We had the room with the terrace which has one of the best views we saw. The front desk was very helpful arranging a driver to the airport. They also provide driving to the hotel. The front desk is very friendly. They hauled up our bags and brought them down when we left. Breakfast was lovely. Excellent service and accommodations!

Ok.. here is my review! If you are looking for a fancy Ritz, keep looking elsewhere. This hotel is located in one of the oldest parts of Lisbon and one of the hardest areas to get around by foot (soooo much climbing) and sometimes by car can be a challenge. Since the hotel has no elevator this can be an issue if you have any health issues. Solar dos Mouros is old, well kept and charming and the staff is truly the best. The bakery next door is a treat. I also highly recommend to get ALL of your tickets before you go on any tours to these incredible sites, the lines and wait times can be hours!!! If possible, higher a tour guide for the day trips!! Lisbon is really incredible. Enjoy:)

We had a wonderful stay at Solar dos Mouros. Centrally located - just steps from Castelo de Sao Jorge - with numerous dining and shopping options in the immediate vicinity, Solar dos Mouros was the perfect point-of-departure for exploring all that Lisbon has to offer. We stayed in the Duplex Suite with windows on three sides, offering stunning river, city, and street views. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very gracious and accommodating. Francois, in particular, was the perfect host, greeting us each morning with a radiant smile, offering suggestions on sights to see, and facilitating interactions among the guests. The only thing we would change would be to stay longer next time.

The staff were terrific. Special shout out to Francois. He was so kind and helpful. The location could not be better, but if you have mobility issues, Lisbon is not for you. I am recovering from knee surgery, and I have a torn ACL, so I was physically demanding, but the hotel staff did whatever they could to help me, including getting me ice to apply to my knee. Welcome fruit was delicious, and the food at the hotel was so good. Staff knew gluten and the need to eat gluten-free because I had celiac. Overall great experience.

But nowhere in the reservation I was informed that you can NOT get to the hotel by car, the street is closed, so you need to drag your luggage to the hotel. That’s was definitely not a happy surprise after arriving tired.

My wife and I stayed at Solar Dos Mouros the week of April 24. We found bed bugs in our bed and reported this to management (Bruno) who told us this had never happened before. We asked for a refund but the hotel offered us 2 nights of credit for a future stay, however we live in the US, not Portugal, so this was not reasonable compensation for us. Lovely hotel and location but we left covered in bed bug bites and had to destroy a bunch of clothing and do not feel the hotel really apologies for the adverse experience or tried to make it right. Disappointed.

We had a wonderful time at Solar dos Mouros in Lisbon. We stayed at the top floor terrace with a deluxe suite that had a stunning view of the city and the river from the balcony. The room was spacious, comfortable.

The only drawback is that there is no elevator in the property, so we had to walk 72 flights of stairs up to our room daily. However, this was not a big problem for us as we enjoyed the exercise and the charming atmosphere of the hotel.

The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They helped us carry our heavy luggage up and down the stairs when we checked in and out. They also gave us great recommendations for places to visit and eat in Lisbon.

The included daily breakfast was tasty and varied, with fresh bread, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt and coffee. The surrounding areas and streets near the hotel are just delightful. We loved exploring the narrow alleys, colorful buildings and quaint shops of Alfama district.

The Number 28 tram is just a few minutes walk away from the hotel, which makes it easy to get to other parts of the city.

We highly recommend Solar dos Mouros for anyone looking for a unique and memorable stay in Lisbon.

Wow a fabulous boutique hotel within steps of the Castle! This place oozed charm. We got an executive duplex room which was really spacious (2 stories), very clean, excellently appointed en suite and furnished in a very hip modern yet comfortable style. The building iis probably a couple hundred years old but totally modernized. Momo was so helpful with all our accommodations! We will be back. The rooftop terrace had a lovely river view and was quite relaxing. This was a girls trip and it was perfect location.

Beware! This hotel has no elevator. It’s old and beat up. The pictures don’t tell the true story. I booked it thinking it looks nice, but boy oh boy was I wrong. The rooms are old, not renovated, and beat up. The bathroom is small and awful, but the worst thing is that the hotel runs out of hot water and there are times when you have no hot water or have to wait over 15 minutes.

Another note is that the staff are particularly rude. Most were awful. Some were ok.

For the price, I don’t think I got a good value and could have done much better in Lisbon.

Very small hotel with a great views especially if you reserve a top floor. Located in old city on the hill. Vey close to main activities. Great service. I will definitely come back.

Employees at Solar dos Mouros make the difference, indeed. Momo, Ahmed and Bruno are excellent at what they do. They made each of the members of my party feel special. Thank you guys. The hotel is located close to most sightseeing places and is very clean. It has a marvelous view of the city and offers a delicious breakfast. I really recommend Solar dos Mouros if you want to make your stay in Lisbon unique.

Beautiful Patio And View from bedroom ! Air conditioning was on point, bar was fantastic. They had water and Wine for me in my room when I arrived, it was one the house!

staff were very friendly and made great recommendations for where to go in Lisboa !

Our stay at Solar dos Muoros was excellent. The hotel itself is lovely and has a beautiful terrace that is perfect for afternoon drinks. Our room was spacious, well decorated and immaculate. And the staff is amazing here! And the neighborhood where the hotel is located - Alfama - is beautiful and historic and accessible to many other neighborhoods in Lisbon. I would absolutely stay here again.

Solo woman traveler. Felt safe and comfortable in my room. Hotel was very comfortable. My room included a loft which I didn't use. I did climb up the stairs to check out the loft, though...I'd be very nervous to let kids up in the loft or try to walk down the stairs at night. There's no railing.
