Good location. The check in is across the street at another hotel. They are not always at the desk and don’t answer the phone. The room was clean. The shower was awesome. There are only 2 single electrical outlets in the whole place and none near a mirror. About an hour before we left, we did see a very large cockroach but only that one.

My favorite out of the 3 hostels I stayed in this trip. Although I had my own room and bathroom. I also had a TV which made my stay even better especially in the evening. The bed has a nice little sleeping spot already in it, haha, but the pillows was good. You could control your own temp too. Would stay here again. Waking distance to a lot of things, if you don't mind walking, which I don't. Up hill but fine if you are good with hikls. And coffee shops right where they are needed.

The apartment was clean and close to walking distance to metro, historic center, shopping and restaurants. I was pleased with the tv entertainment, as I was sick for a day and not able to go out. I would recommend this place for visitors who want a quiet a place to sleep and away from crowds.

We were very concerned when walking through the big entrance door from the street. Dark, dismal entrance with peeling paint, big statue broken in half and plastered back together, doors and walls to first floor unit and shared kitchen were dirty and blemished. The bedroom and bathroom itself was clean but fabric furniture soiled and baseboards broken. Walls thin when you can hear the neighboring room guest coughing. The features listed in Expedia were contradictory as it listed fridge and kitchen under each room description but then upon checkin I was confused and looked back at listing and saw it was also listed as a common space. All to say, disappointed and not worth the money but stuck it out for the one night. I’m sure there would have been better options in same price range.

I love this guest house in Lisbon. It’s very basic but very clean and charming. Bed was so comfortable with sheets that felt like they had just come out of the sunshine. It’s a No Frill’s room, but all I needed. I stayed there twice while in Lisbon and would definitely consider it again.

The room was clean and comfortable. Deducting 1 star because I didn't expect that you can't flush the toilet paper and you had to use a garbage can. On our first day there was no garbage liner, so it felt unsanitary. After the room was cleaned then a liner was added. Deducting another star because a glass bottle of water was provided, and the glass was brown so you can't see what's inside, plus the stopper was a simple cork. I didn't trust it to drink it. A better solution would be a twist cap bottle of water instead. We checked in from a hotel lobby diagonally across the street and we had a little trouble finding the GuestHouse at night.

This guesthouse has an excellent location, walkable to sights, shops, and restaurants. The well organized kitchen is great and the room generally comfortable. However, we had no idea Rua de Madalena was such a Main Street, and it was NOISY - even with windows and shutters closed. Not easy to sleep. Additionally, like many places in old buildings, they request that toilet paper is placed in a garbage can rather than the toilet. The problem is that this gets stinky. We asked for the garbage to be removed and were told that it would only be done every second day. But despite our request, it did not happen at all during our 3-day stay. Not okay! We saw cleaning staff in the building every day and were very disappointed that they didn’t take 2 minutes to empty our garbage. We would not go back to this guesthouse despite its excellent location and lovely kitchen.

Walkable to a lot of sights, food, and shopping. Lisbon is very hilly and next to two public elevators but I didn’t even use them. Great communication from staff. Only comments are that the hallway and stairwell lighting is very dim and my deluxe double room #1 was IN the main stairwell so I heard people coming and going at all hours of the night as there is no noise insulation. The other rooms are off a hallway behind a door so they are better insulated to traffic.

Great location, close to everything. Lots of great restaurants and shops. We did however have an issue with the plumbing. Our first night there, we checked in, showered and left for dinner. When we got back, the room stunk of sewage so badly you could barely stand it and the toilet was blocked. We were unable to use the facilities through the night. They did come the next day and repaired, but the bathroom still had a very foul smell for the remainder of the stay. I will say that the following morning when I called to see if someone was coming to repair, they did offer me the option of another room (if there was one available). We chose to stay in the same room, because we did not feel like moving again. Aside from that issue, everything else was fine.

No lo recomiendo. Las fotos se ven bien, el cuarto es grande pero el edificio es muy viejo y huele terrible. El edificio tiene un olor a caño y humedad que impregna todo el lugar. El staff niega el olor y este no mejora. La limpieza la hacen cada dos días, el lugar es muy ruidoso y no hay señalamientos en la calle para reconocer el hotel. Algo positivo es que nos guardaron las maletas al momento del check out.

Their was a sewerage issue in our room and the stench was unbearable. The Mander’s and staff at the FLH Memória were as helpful as they could be. They put is in their hotel the first night and got technician to the room. It was improved but still smelt and we had to sleep there because there was no other option. Hotels.com were uncontactable and the owner had not responded to the hotel by the time we left.

Our stay at Lel Madalena Guest House was great—the place looks just like the photos. However, we did have some concerns about security. The same access code was used for the front door, the common area, and our room. At one point, we mistakenly tried the door next to ours and the code worked there too, which made it seem like all the codes might be the same. While we did feel safe overall, this raised some concerns about the level of security.

It was nice and clean. My only issue was with the shower leaking water. My girlfriend took a shower and I heard her call my name. I walked over and saw water all over the floor because the glass in the shower was not sealed correctly, so I spent the next 30 minutes cleaning up the mess and ringing out towels.
It’s a nice property and the house keepers are kind, just be careful when taking a shower!

We stayed for three nights and all three nights were a challenge. We tried to leave before our first night was completed but they wouldn’t refund anything so we pushed through.

For one- the room smelt like a moldy basement. It left my clothes with a smell after leaving. It was strong and awful. My clothes felt damp afterwards which is not good.

The walls are so thin. Depending on your neighbors you will hear them snore. You need a code to get into the building and then up to the guest house area and then again into the rooms. You will hear your neighbors coming in and it is so loud we thought they were coming into our room. Don’t expect a good sleep here. It’s convenient to walk everywhere but not worth it imo, I wish we paid up more for a nicer place

Really nice experience. Stayed in an individual room with a private washroom. Door was always locked and you would unlock it with a keypad on the door.

There are a couple things to be aware of though that the property can work on.

The washroom door was a swing door and didn’t properly close. Really weird for a washroom but some people can overlook this.

Our AC unit wasn’t working and communicating over WhatsApp was useless. It’s best to go to the affiliated hotel down the street and speak directly with someone there.

Friends of ours were staying in the room across and checked out a day earlier. Out of curiosity they tried to unlock their old room and the code was the same… they do not change the codes.

The place is clean and otherwise comfortable to stay in and I would stay there again knowing now what I’ve mentioned above.

I have never had an experience where the hotel staff went through and removed all my personal belongings because I was one hour late checking out.
I had gone to use a lap pool in Lisbon and I left something at the pool, so I arrived later back than planned. I understand that this was one hour later than the check out time but it is totally unacceptable tp fo through all my personal belongings including lap top and passport and other valuable items.
I was not allowed to check in until 15.00 and they only have 7 rooms so I fund it hard to accept that they have to physically clear every room one hour after check in.
To make it worse the Hotel that manages the airbnb, Hotel Memoria Lisbon,were not even slightly apologetic. I explained I had not intended to check out late and I found their attitude was very unfriendly.
This is despite me haveing a lovely chat when I initially arrived.
Despite the fact I was not happy, i informed them that there was a leak coming through the cieling from the floor where their accommodation was.
I informed them of this to save water damage, but their reply was its not caused by us. I wasn't making a problem about this, mearlt informing them.

I have stayed at possibly 100 hotels bioked through this site, and have NEVER made a complaint before.

Stayed for 3 nights and it was very comfortable. The shared kitchen was well equipped but a washing machine would have been helpful.
Beds and room was clean and comfortable.
As previously mentioned, we didnt receive any check-in information prior to arrival so we contacted Hotels.com who also tried to contact the property but had to leave a message. We then read previous reviews and saw that you had to check-in at the hotel up the road. On the second day of our stay i eventually received a reponse fron the hotel - a bit late then though!

Great location, great price, lots of added security to get in, and clean rooms. I like the shared kitchen, especially the water dispenser from the fridge. I got the single bedroom, and it is spacious if sharing with another person. There is a TV equipped with local channels and streaming service you have to input. The area is on the hilly side, but not too difficult to access.

A few things that I didn’t like were how thin the walls are in the room. Imagine trying to get sleep but you can hear the next room talking almost clearly with every shuffle and movement. Also the shower was hard to figure out, but took several trial and errors.

Overall it was a great experience, and would definitely lodge here again.

This property is not as it appears. While the units are nicely decorated, the location is convenient, and the staff is friendly (but located elsewhere), the positives end there.

Cons:

- The check-in experience was poor. I didn't receive any email with instructions and had to wait outside until someone let me in, only to find that I had to check-in at the hotel across the street. However, despite the frustrating process, the staff was excellent.
- The building is run-down and almost seemed abandoned. Upon entering, there was discarded furniture and a completely dark foyer. Could not find lights anywhere.
- The walls are paper-thin. I could hear the guests in the next room snoring.

Pros:

- Nicely decorated, but this is less appealing when you're uneasy about entering the building and can't sleep because you can hear your neighbor snoring.
- Convenient location.
- Clean.

The room had a terrible sewer problem, with rancid smell coming up from the shower drain and toilet stool and creating an odor that was sickening. From the first greeting to our check out we had an absolutely wonderful stay. The staff at the MEMORIA hotel were so very kind and helpful and allowed us to store our luggage without me even having to ask. The guesthouse itself is bright and very clean and tastefully decorated! I would highly recommend anyone to stay here and I hope to come back soon!

Great located

It was a little bit expensive considering that the building was old and rundown. A major negative point was the noise caused by the many vehicles driving by. Other than that, the location of the hotel was really convenient, it was clean and the front desk guys were kind and helpful with recommendations.

Centrally situated, as everyone else has already stated! Nicely decorated as well. However, 1.) the moldy, mildewy, pungent smell drifting from the bathroom was inescapable. This is an extremely disappointing and unexpected feature of our guesthouse room that really soured our experience. 2.) The other comments are not kidding around when they say the walls are thin. You can hear absolutely every conversation and noise in the neighboring room, which can make sleep difficult. Bring earplugs. 3.) Even this was seemingly stated nowhere on the Guesthouse website, remember to check in at the Memoria hotel up the hill from the guesthouse. In addition, their directions to reach the guesthouse were very vague and sent us on a wild goose chase up and down the hill looking for the door to the guesthouse. You need three codes to get to your room. Heads up, the number on the (green) entrance door to the guesthouse is 128.

Overall value for money, especially for tourists

I had a good stay at Lel Madalena---my room had an internal courtyard view that was nothing to speak of, but the bed and armchair were comfortable (although the rickety clothing rack in lieu of a wardrobe would not be that helpful---there are wall hooks though); the kitchen had an espresso machine and a water dispensing fridge (but no hot water kettle); and the shower pressure was good and everything clean.

The only major minus was the spotty wifi, because I was on a working holiday. If I were just on holiday, I would not have minded as much.

The GuestHouse is in a very convenient location---definitely get a bifana from up the street!

The receptionists at the Memoria were helpful and the complimentary water and port were nice, but they originally gave me an access code that did not work, which was frustrating.

This is the first time we have stayed in a GuestHouse. It is an unusual set up for getting keys to access the unit, which happened to be a few doors down the street. The hotel Memoria staff that kept the keys were very helpful in getting us settled. We are are thankful for that. With key pad access code and a key we felt secure. Our unit was in a renovated older building with 2 flights of stairs up. Though fairly small it had high ceilings and a large bright French door that opened on to a small wrought iron balcony that overlooked the street below.
The bathroom was on the tiny side but it even had a shower. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The room was clean and well kept.
The kitchen that was for all the suites was next door. It also had a key pad access. It was fairly well equipped with two ovens and full sized fridge. No stove top though.
Groceries are found close by.
The location was perfect for seeing the area by foot. However, they are several options for transportation. We bought a transit pass which covered most modes except for the metro and it worked well for us. Enjoyed our stay.

It is very well situated and great for a quick stay. There is also a shared kitchen and rest area, we did not used it but it looks really cute and cozy.
