I visit this hotel often for solo breaks to de-stress and relax. As I spend a lot of time in the room itself, I opt for the family room as it is more spacious and situated better for more light and nicer outlook from the windows. The check in staff are lovely. One receptionist in particular who recognises me from previous visits is very friendly, she is extra helpful and chats with me if she is free to, answering any queries I have and making me feel at ease and welcome. I make good use of the gym and pool area, which is equipped with a sauna and steam room. Changing rooms and showers are adequate and you are provided with robe and slippers in the room which I use both while in, or walking to/from the spa area. I have never opted for any treatments, but these are available at extra costs. I do not find the gym and pool staff to be as friendly as the reception or house-keeping team. Sometimes I feel a little awkward and they are busy talking amongst themselves or do not go out their way to explain anything they would be helpful to know. I always have to ask about certain things. The hotel itself isn’t the most modern, although clean and comfortable and the bathrooms are up to date. I prefer this over modernised, minimalistic hotels. I feel more comfortable here as it has a real ‘classic hotel vibe’ which personally makes it more appealing than the modern style, busy hotels with small, barely decorated rooms and where staff are never seen. I really like it here.

Shower room, no heating, shower screen had no lower seal so water leaked onto floor. Toilet seat not fitted properly.
Carpet in bedroom area totally uneven, like the underlay or floorboards were damaged.
Asked for more milk cartons at reception during the evening as there was only 2 provided in room and was told they didn’t have access to any more. Was offered a glass of milk from the bar but hardly suitable to keep in room overnight.

I have been staying here for many years and it’s so sad to see it going downhill, the building is beautiful, grounds stunning, spa and gym very good, but the quality is slipping so much, the restaurant atmosphere is tense and unwelcoming, rooms so cold even though the small electric panel radiator is on full, bathroom no heading at all even though switched on no power
This place is livery and so much potential, the staff need energy and confidence from management you can see they are young and nervous, confidence comes from the top

Heat the rooms, I know it’s expensive but comfort is key to a good stay

I paid for a suit, it was the same room I have stayed in so many times before, very basic

Don’t spend more money on EV chargers spend it on heating and training, the place deserves it

Rude staff, awful room, and I left a smartwatch in my room which conveniently went missing when I called the hotel to try to retrieve it! So basically housekeeping kept it. My efforts to speak to the manager were met with absolutely awful rudeness by the reception staff, I will never stay here again! Terrible hotel

Check in was poor, no information provided about breakfast, restaurants or anything other than the room number! No staff to help with luggage. The website said afternoon tea was available but when we returned to reception to ask she said she didn’t know if there was any food available (4.30pm) and advised us to go to the restaurant. The restaurant was empty, not a single member of staff to be found. Waited ten minutes then gave up and left the hotel to eat. Room was fine, dated but comfortable enough and the pool is nice, but bathroom in the room needs a good clean, plus broken plug and the showers at the pool are poor. Overall this hotel is absolutely not 4 stars and I’m shocked it has this rating. I’d consider it 2 stars

Overall, a pleasant stay whilst in town on business. Pool and gym are very useful and adequate. Customer service is as expected. Wifi signal is poor and requires major revision, barely working at the best of times. Expect to hot spot from your phone, with your phone on the window cill if you need to work from your room. The bed is super comfy, great nights sleep! Bathroom is a tad battered and decor is dated however shower is brilliant and absolutely makes up for the cracked tiles. Ceilings in areas are peeling with plaster skim visible in various locations. Ceiling in pool requires attention with paint flaking from the metal roof framework and underside of roof. TVs have HDMI inputs for connectivity which is a major bonus if you have a console or firestick.

Stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary having been married in the hotel 8 years ago.
Still a great place to visit, some areas are a little tired and would benefit from some TLC but on the whole we had a great 3 night stay.
Bar service was great, comfortable setting. Fantastic grounds. Great pool and spa.
Restaurant great food, a little pricey but can’t complain too much.
Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

The hotel has a lovely drive and gardens as you approach. The hotel bedrooms are very dated and worn, we had to have our room moved due to a constant buzzing noise from hotel kitchen. Staff are lovely but until the hotel was refurbished we would not stay again. Worn carpets, curtains and broken tiles in the bathroom in both of the rooms we tried. Corridors also need some new decoration. The food was OK, we ate in the bar area as the dinning room looked a lonely place with only 1 other table eating. Breakfast was nice. Spa was OK, we did not stay long in the pool as there was a kids swimming lesson on and with the roped off area it was too busy to properly swim. Sauna was good but the steam room lacked steam. Easy to park.

Although the rooms sre clean and tidy, you find yourself in a time warp

There are no 3 pin bed sockets and when yoh have power ut doesn't work - no electrical socket power including USB

The restaurant has a limited choice and unfortunately the menu is uninspiring. The bar and the restaurant shut before 8.30pm

Never tried the Spa or pool as didnt have time.....

The booking didnt live up to the billing I'm afraid. We wont hurry back.....

We were there 20 years ago and the hotel was amazing food service really busy atmosphere was great, attention to detail brilliant, that was for our honeymoon , we went back 10 years later for our anniversary it was good and busy but not near as good as the first time,this time the staff were not well trained, the menu was limited, the first night we had to have our meal in the cocktail bar as 2 staff members were off, it was busy and frantic my prawn cocktail was very poor , the breakfasts were good and second night in dlnnlng room food was good but limited choice and no atmosphere, overall it is hard to believe how a hotel 20 years ago was so good and has gone down hill so badly we were planning going back for our 25th and maybe staying a week but that will not happen now and we will never visit any macdonald hotels again.

Stayed at crutherland a few times now, always enjoyed it, kids love the pool, was disappointing not to receive robes which we always have before, after asking if any available we were told we would have to be charged which i said ok so we would have them for the pool and walking to and from the room to the pool, even after agreeing to pay we were then told there was none available in the full hotel so this put a little dampener on our trip, especially since i had to wait for quite a while as someone was away checking everywhere for them, apart from this we enjoyed our stay and breakfast was nice.

Freezing cold morning in sunny Scotland

Normally as i have stayed here on numerous occasions it has been really good, this time unfortunately it was a disaster. From being given what could only be described as a box cupboard for a room, no hot water so i had to have a freezing cold shower in the morning to being overcharged for my evening meal, which to be fair they refunded me.
When i complained i just felt they were trying to brush it under the carpet, to a point of i will not be putting this as a first choice of hotel in the future.
What makes it more annoying is that every other time it has been really good but it fell well below what i would expect for a 4 star hotel.

Room was great. Modern, clean and comfy.
Went down to restaurant and again all staff were pleasant and nothing was an issue. Food was amazing and not overly priced. I went for the soup and smash burger. Probably one of the best burgers I’ve had.

It’s worth noting that the breakfast was advertised at £22 when booking so declined offer. Arrived and upon check in, breakfast was £12.00?

What could be better was a better TV in room and being able to pay with American Express.

Happy enough for what we needed.
Rooms a bit tired and musty, wobbly chairs, broken TV remote, sink not draining well but appeared clean enough.
Front desk staff lovely.
Breakfast was a little interesting, the poor staff seemed really overwhelmed.
Not much selection and lots of things appeared to have ran out. As I said, fine for our needs and we are quite chill but definitely no wow factor.

Arrived to make memories with my mum, sister and our children to be told although we had booked dinner bed and breakfast we would have to pay for the childrens meals. No where on the booking form did it state this. This caused us to be stressed and completely ruined the overnight. The dining room had a long wait for food and you had to queue to leave and check you didnt have anything to pay. Booked breakfast for 9.30 yet still had to queue to get in. Think management need to review how they are running the hotel.

Never again!!

Never again!! After enjoying a stay at this property last year me and my sister booked a mothers day surprise for our elderly mum, ourselves and our children. We booked two rooms on a half board basis and this was confirmed 2 adults 2 children half board on our receipts. Upon arrival to the property i was checked in by a friendly receptionist and everything seemed ok. I booked dinner times and breakfast. My sister however was met with a different attitude informing her half board was not included for the children. I went round to try to clear up the confusion and was abruptly told I would also have to pay for my children to have dinner even though we had both paid for half board. The receptionist attitude was shocking trying to blame it on hotels.com and informing us we would not get our money refunded as we had already paid. Due to the terrible attitude which was causing us stress and upset at this point we just wanted to leave. The manager came apologised and gave the impression she would sort it out so we had a drink and decided to stay. It did not get sorted we received a note saying we would still need to pay but they would 'discount' the meals. The service at dinner was extremely slow and some customers actually walked out in frustration. What should have been a nice relaxing stay was ruined by the terrible attitude and incompetence of this hotel. No where on our terms and conditions did it say that 2 adults 2 children half board did not include the childrens meals!

it was an overall disappointing experience. I had booked two rooms, and both had issues. One room had heating problems, making the room uncomfortable, and the other had a broken toilet flush, which made it difficult to use. The rooms were old, with outdated furniture and fixtures, which certainly didn’t justify the high price they charge.

What made matters worse was the lack of friendly service. When I called reception to address the issues, no one picked up the phone, which only added to the frustration. To top it all off, all the hotel staff were unfriendly to us. The hotel felt overly hyped and simply didn’t live up to expectations. Overall, it was a regrettable stay,

To new comers visiting Glasgow, should you wish to stay here take into account how are you getting into the city centre to visit all spots. By bus this hotel is 1hour and half away and by car about 30 minutes.

My stay was okay. It was great the initial night and I was honestly not going to bring up any issues however, here’s a quick overview of what happened. Firstly, there was either a malfunction with the fire alarm or someone was an idiot in the rooms and set off the whole system. On our last night our windows were left open therefore a bird entered our room and basically shat everywhere. The hotel staff were kind to offer us a second room however, this room was much smaller and the quality was completely downgraded. No hot shower and when went downstairs to complain. We were offered 50% refund. Come next morning(today) we were given less than 50% of our refund as we were 7 minutes late. Nothing communicated just told the amount. The amount of inconvenience caused surely they would let us go for being 7 minutes late?

Anyway, the place is great and the restaurant has a really good selection of food. We did like the wings and sweet potatoe fried so give that a go.

Fantastic , staff amazing

Fantastic stay, got caught there during the storm and staff couldn’t have done anymore, made sure we were comfortable , happy, feed and watered, they were wonderful. Also keeping us updated on weather situations as they arose.

I stayed at the Macdonald Crutherland twice over two weeks and i was not impressed. The WiFi in the room was terrible and prevented me from being able to do some work in the room. The food at the bar was a disgrace!! I got a pizza for £14 which was possibly a £1 Iceland pizza!! Surely any chef worth their salt would refuse to put that out, they must be bought in and out in a freezer and served at a ridiculous price for what they are.
The staff are all very nice and hardworking, but the hotel itself is very tired and I would imagine being run down and eventually sold for development.
It’s certainly not a 4* hotel and I wouldn’t stay here again!

Great. Hotel not very accommodating

After a long day travelling they closed the kitchen at 20:25 and no room service although the room menu stated 9:30 last order. I had find the local chippy in east Kilbride not great when the night had the lowest temperature of the year at -6oc eat before you arrive. Their lose I went out again the second night I travell a lot and spend £60 a night this two night stay zero with them £50 with local restaurants.....

Poor view from room over roof. Bed side light did not work. Beds were 2 singles pushed together.

Leisure facilities good, sauna excellent and breakfast was very good-individually cooked. The staff member we had was very friendly. Despite being freezing outside room was warm.

Lovely place, needs slight uplift

We arrived at the lovely spa hotel for winter vacations and loved the site, location, access to amenities yet being slightly tucked away in peaceful surroundings.
Staff is an absolute pleasure here, from reception to spa , leisure and pool facilites, to restaurant staff and even the cheerful chef who is a regular at the work out gym, everyone seemed so friendly , helpful and accomodating.
With a tiny baby on board, the restaurant staff were excellent even when we got late for breakfast.
Hotel is slightly dated in regards to carpeting etc but it retains its character and the lounge by the reception is a delight to enjoy a good book with a drink or coffee.
Gym, Leisure centre and pool are a five star attraction here, large , great equipment and never too busy.
Toilet seemed the only downside with equipment needing an upgrade. Shower leaked so had to be very carefully pointed so it wouldnt flood the floor, and the toilet water pressure was less than optimal too.
But overall, one excellent stay and we thank everyone for making it so good for us.

Christmas overnight with family . Christmas meal was a bit chaotic and was okay . Swimming pool and Spa lovely Amy gave me a lovely hot stone massage . Disappointed no food in evening . Praise to Sophie for getting a meal for grandson

Very dated with average service

The pool, gym and spa areas are ok... if the changing room rather dated... very dated. The rest of the hotel predates... everything... very, very tired hotel, just about keeping it together.

Food was average at best and breakfast has some strange arrangements with most edible things charged additionally, no coffee machine and a possible cappuccino in about 15 mins for £4 does not sound the best start to the day.

There's no drama, no enjoyment either, but the 10/10 reviews I had read before do not sound genuine.
