Lovely spot, with view over the Lake. Large clean rooms, modern design, but very Spartan. We arrived late and in room snacks were non-existent. Restaurant closed at 10pm. Too few electric outlets, and it would have helped to have a night light by the bathroom, which was internal and difficult to navigate in the dark.

Good for business travelers

Needed a point on Lake Geneva fairly central- easy to get to Geneva, Annecy, Mont Blanc, Montreaux and Lausanne. Easy access to autobahn- within 5 minute drive. No road noise. Heavy residential area. 2 good restaurants down by the lake.
Ask for a room on the Lake view side. A/C in room - yes- not very cold. Hanging rod and open shelf is it for the closet- no drawers. Would recommend for business travelers. Good staff and hotel restaurant provides a nice breakfast and varied dinner menu weeknights.

Room without view

The checkin is like every year a fight.

I pay extra to have a room overseeing the lake.. but always for 8 years long I initially get a room with a Terrace in the basement of the hotel.
If you put your window open you get the smoke from others (not nice when you have astma) in your room and with 8 degrees Celsius you don’t even need a Terrace facing a bush.

This time the checkin was even more unpleasant. The woman was quite rude and made sure by her way of answering my questions, my good mood disappeared..

I paid unnecessarily more for a superior room.

As I last year got a a chicken Caesar salad with raw chicken, so eat outside the hotel already together with the checking experience this year, I guess it’s better to change hotel for the next years.

A nice hotel option, upscale, architecturally a bit severe but with a very nice view of the mountains (not so much the lake). Overall, the neighborhood is very safe but unattractive: EPFL is not a campus notable for its grade, and the hotel has some sort of muddy field behind it (but with a path you can follow to walk on the side of the lake, which I recommend). Restaurant is good but has a limited choice; bar is fine but mostly has fairly cheap liqueur at relatively steep pricing. But the staff is incredibly warm and helpful, and we valued that.

If you plan to use the sofa or sleep on it, ask for a room with a sofa that isn’t ancient and lumpy. Only some rooms even have a sofa, but among those that do, many should have been replaced around 1975!

A nice university hotel for visitors to Lausanne, but a bit sterile and the suites lack a dividing wall. Rooms are very upscale, but the dinner menu is rather limited (yet everything I tried was fantastic). Hard spot to reach, and you need some sort of vehicle toget from here to anywhere else.

Starling hotel is an amazing option to stay in Lausanne. We stayed for 5 nights. This is our second stay in the same hotel. Very convenient place to stay. Helpful and Welcoming front desk team and cafe staff. Good breakfast. Clean room and hardworking housekeeping. Nice view from the room. Highly recommend this place if you want to spend few days in beautiful Lausanne.

The hotel is nice. The room and the bed are comfortable. I did not like the entrance to the bathroom. It was near the bed itself and not a practical door to open or close. The service was nice but not excellent. Breakfast could have been with more options. To me they asked for parking, my friend was charged automatically. This meant we paid parking 2 times (and it was not cheap 14 CHF per day). Even though not in the City the hotel was full of tourists.

Room with a view!

My husband and I recently stayed in the Starlight hotel, St. Sulpice.
The hotel was excellent, with lovely clean rooms, comfortable beds AND windows that open! Lovely view of the countryside and lake from our room. We didn't use any facilities so can't comment there. Found the reception staff pleasant and helpful at all times

Spent one night in a business room w/o breakfast at the Starling Hotel. Very comfortable and clean, although it smelled a bit humidity when I first entered the room, but after I left the window open, it was gone!
Appreciated the “sweet dreams” message on the pillow ☺️.
Even if they said there was no view on the lake for this room, there actually was (on the side)!

Nice service and room but bath in bad condition

The room is nice and clean, however I was surprised from the condition of the shower in my room, I was expecting much more from an Hotel in Switzerland. First of all there was only an hand held dusch which was mounted on a shaky poll that was on its way to be dismounted from the wall, the water stream could not be directed properly. Secondly when I finished the bath I found out a pond of water outside the door although it was properly closed during my wash. Third issue was found when I was brushing my teeth and found the sink drainage in a bad condition as well

The hotel is nicely maintained and the service is excellent. It's a bit away from the city center, but the hotel offers shuttle service to the main city train station, which makes up for it. Decent breakfast selections. Overall, I enjoyed my ~2 Week long stay at this hotel. Would definitely recommend !

Hotel was clean and comfortable except for very hard and uncomfortable mattress; staff was friendly and accomodating and spoke excellent English. Restaurant had an indifferent breakfast but excellent dinner. Very close to science university area, far from Lausanne center but not a bad drive.

Quiet location for a nice modern and simple hotel.

We stayed for one night while making our way from Switzerland to France - as we had a car, the location was convenient with (paid) parking available on the premises. The hotel itself was quite modern with interesting artwork, and the room itself was very comfortable. The breakfast was great and staff were also very helpful.

Internet access was terrible, dropped every 2min so Skype calls were impossible. Scrambled eggs were fake, reconstituted from powder or from a box. For the price (paid about 300euros average per night) you would think that they would not have such issues. But staff were very nice.

Nice hotel close to college campus

This is a very decent and trendy hotel - better than we expected. The room was spacious but the bathroom and toilet felt weird - may be suitable for one person or couple only, not suitable even if you have 1 child as the bathroom and toilet have glass doors with no locks. Also no place to change clothes in bathroom - you have to undress and dress outside bathroom.
Breakfast was very good and complementary if you book directly with hotel - Expedia rate didn't include breakfast. Lobby staff was very friendly and helpful.
Shuttle service to Lausanne station is for very limited hours in the morning. Not very useful.

The room and the facility seem to be new. The service is bad. We reserved for 3 adults. But they prepared everything else for only 2. The front desk guys were nice, but the room ladies were rude. They never greet people. I tried first to say hello to them, but they did not even respond. My wife tried the same. They are very impolite.

We stayed here with other family - we booked via Hotels.com and the others did not. Their room was very nice; ours was incredibly poor (unclean, hair in sink, damaged walls, no sheets on the pull out bed, unable to get sheets when asked! had to use comforter covers that did not fit - all around a very poor experience for what should have been a very nice hotel).

Worst hotel ever!!

Extremely disappointed. Every time I took shower, the area outside the shower room flooded completely. Very tiny toilet. My head will hit the glass every time I seat. If two people are sharing one room, there is absolutely no privacy in the toilet. The bed is of very poor quality.

Perfect location for EPFL

I was in Lausanne to do some business with a company in the innovation park and proximity was a major factor. Having also stayed at their sister hotel in Geneva, I had really high expectations and I'm pleased to say I wasn't particularly disappointed.

A different style to the Geneva hotel, but the standard was similar - clean rooms, well specified , breakfasts were adequate but not awesome.

Great room design and decor. Though I would avoid the twin beds the next time. Either go double or single. Twin for one individual is a bit of a pain.

Rates were great too and the staff really helpful and friendly in all bits of the experience - front of house and bistro staff.

It's my #1 in the lausanne area even if it's not downtown.

Great place, be careful with room selection.

I've stayed at the Starling several times and love it. Very modern, clean and close to EPFL. Right on the edge of campus. This time a couple of issues cropped up that I had not seen before. I reserved a two-bed room since traveling to a wedding with my son. However the beds were not really separate (two separate mattresses, but pushed next to each other) and the room much smaller than the ones I had been in before. There is a big difference between the large sunny rooms facing the lake on the upper floors and the smaller basement rooms. Be careful what you reserve to avoid disappointment. Also if you are going to be in Lausanne a lot a hotel in town may make more sense. Even though there is the hotel shuttle, the bus #701 and the metro M1 it can be a bit tricky to get around.

Room was well designed; bed comfortable, good layout, nice shower etc. Air conditioning in my room was broken and despite reporting it twice was never fixed over a 5 night stay - this was annoying since it was humid whilst I was there. Food at the hotel was surprisingly very good; only minor complaint very slow service at the bar (not enough staff to cope with high occupancy)

The Hotel was clean, the staff for the most part was very helpful. The overall cost was good. The room privacy, smoked glass between the bathroom and the sleeping quarter was different, while my wife was sleeping, I couldn't turn on the bathroom light as it would light up the bedroom. I would definately stay here again, realizing it is a 10 min walk to the train for other restaurants. This location more suited for me when I travel for business.

We loved our stay here. The room was amazing and beautiful. The view was breathtaking! Very friendly staff! You have to pay to park and the breakfast, while extensive and delicious, is pricey. Not a lot closeby that we could tell, but the hotel is extremely comfortable and nice!
