Super wellbeing location but quite remote

We had a very relaxing 1 night stay at this pretty spa-style hotel in the Tuscan hills.
Disappointingly, the restaurant was closed forcing us to travel to a nearby town, but we had a great experience and excellent meal.
Overall it was very pleasant, but quite expensive.

What a charming place. I just loved it! It is a dream! Lots of green areas, parking is a plus, the place is ancient, but is very well kept! The outside is so charming. The room was like... going back in time! So charming! The room had air conditioning, and the bathroom is great, quite new. Staff is extremely friendly. We had dinner there one night and food is fantastic. Their Chianti wine is so good! And the best was when I was leaving and Signore Antonio spend some precious minutes chatting with me about the history of this place, which was just incredible to hear. The place has 800+ years, but it is very well maintained. This is a beautiful hotel! I could not enjoy the beautiful swiming pool because it is November and it is chilly, and so the pool was closed. But it is a beautiful swiming pool. This place is only 10 minutes from Lucca and around 20 minutes from Pisa.

There are much better hotels in this price class.
Restaurant was not particularly good. Send back a couple of meals. The restaurant food didn’t seem very fresh which is highly unusual I this part of the world.

The rooms were ok but dated, like I say better places to stay on this price class

This was a beautiful property situated between Pisa and Lucca. It’s an older hotel but all of the amenities including air conditioning were good. Amazing pool area and loungers and you can run down to the lobby to get drinks and other snacks. We had a family room which had an upstairs with a king bed and downstairs there were two twin beds for the kids. Lots of good food options near by. Only negative was that the breakfast provided by the hotel wasn’t great in terms of quality or quantity of options available. They seemed to run out of things regularly and not be replaced.

Otherwise breakfast was superb and property was lovely, we would have enjoyed more if we had stayed longer. Rooms could have accommodated more than three and we could have saved money. Stayed in the the Junior suit with a balcony and beautiful view. The staff is so friendly and helpful like a big family! Typical Italian rustic style but very charming hotel. Lucca only about 8 minutes away by car. Will come back again! Breakfasts are the same every day which is a bit boring . We would like to have more options like a fruit salad / soft fruit and tomatoes and eggs to choose from. Other than that - lovely place to stay. Thank you all for looking after us . Barbara and Mark

Great potential!

Potentially this is a lovely hotel in a great position between Lucca and Pisa. However, several things spoil the overall charm. The lack of staff is apparent with the reception staff doing most jobs. We didn't see anyone looking after the breakfast tables. The dining room itself is very unappealing. There is no bar area to sit and enjoy a drink. We had cold nights so outside was not an option in the evening. Just as well it was cool as there was no obvious air conditioning. The bedrooms and beds were large, but the bed was too hard and uncomfortable. Worst was the incessantly barking dogs behind the property that kept us awake. The pool area looked lovely but even in September the water was too cold for swimming.

Villa Cheli was beautiful, we were sorry when we had to leave. We stayed 4 nights as part of a larger holiday and wish we'd had longer. The pool is a great size and there was never more than a few people around it. There was a good mix of people, adults and kids and lots of nationalities. The food in the restaurant was very high quality and buffet breakfast had loads of choices. The room was immaculate. It wasn't fancy, but that's not what we were expecting anyway. Nicely decorated and very clean. The staff were friendly and helped with booking taxis when we needed. There is a bus stop right at the end of the drive which is great - only 1.50 for a ticket into Lucca! And you have to visit Lucca - one of the best towns in Italy we've been to. We will definitely go back here.

Spot on in Lucca

During a 3 week road trip from London to Italy (& back) we’ve taken in quite a few hotels at various price brackets.

For value & friendly service this hotel ranks highly.

The pool is big enough so that even if there are families with young children in it, other adults can still enjoy a dip.

All members of staff were very helpful & friendly.

A beautiful spot for dinner at the top of the tree lined drive.

Stayed here many years ago when they were in the process of renovating the property. What a magnificent job they have made of it, such a beautiful property, restaurant, lounges, sun balconies all furnished in period Italian style.
All the staff were very welcoming and the continental breakfast came with various cereal’s, breads, meat & cheeses jams.

Lovely hotel in rural Italy.

We stayed for four nights to visit Florence, Pisa, Lucca and the surrounding area. The setting for the hotel is stunning, from the tree lined driveway, the gardens, the mountains in the background to the actual building with its swimming pool and terrace. The staff made us feel very welcome and our room was as described. The food was delicious both at breakfast and dinner. We had a lovely four days exploring the area and would definitely revisit the hotel and recommend the hotel to friends and family.

This is a really nice hotel. It has excellent grounds and really nice pool. They have a very cute and friendly hotel cat. The room was basic, but perfect for our needs and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel restaurant was very good and reasonably priced, although the service was a bit slow. I would recommend this hotel to any traveler.

Pleasant stay.

We stayed in an apartment for a week with 2 young children. Large bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, plus patio area with table and chairs. We had dinner in the hotel on the first night and breakfast for the first day, but as we had a fridge, microwave and hob in the apartment we cooked for the rest of week. Ample parking at the hotel for the hire car. Plus there was a pizzeria a short drive up the road that kept the kids happy.

Simply the best, the location in great to book your Tuscany experience: 10min from Lucca, 20 from Pizza, 40 fron Florence, etc.
The staff is just perfect! Small setup but it has everything you need to spend a couple of days at the hotel and go out to explore Tuscany, you can spend a two week vacation there and will always have great stuff to do.
The swimming pool is beautiful and totally open to the Mountains. Large rooms, and very nice Villa all together

Fabulous Villa Stay

We only stayed at Hotel Villa Chelli for one night, but we wished we had spent our entire week there! It was such a beautiful property that felt like it was secluded and in the middle of nowhere, but it's just 3 km from the city center of Lucca. We had a room on the 2nd floor facing the back of the property, we couldn't get enough of the view of the pool and the trees/plants/flowers/grass. The room was very large and comfortable, the breakfast was very good and plentiful, and we discovered the spa the morning we were going to check-out (unfortunately). This place was like a dream to us, and I would love to go back there!

The best part of the hotel was the pool and landscape around the hotel. The food at the restaurant was ok. The only downside of our stay was the drunk British man who couldn't find his room and woke us up at 3 am by sticking his head through our bedroom window looking for his girlfriend.

Our family of four simply loved this hotel. We stayed here for five nights as a base for visiting Florence, Siena and Pisa although Lucca itself was delightful.We had a quad room with a quaint beamed ceiling, queen bed and two singles beds for the kids. The bathroom was spacious and clean. There was only one small window but a skylight let in plenty of natural light. We enjoyed the large pool set just behind the rear courtyard. The restaurant was probably the best we experienced on our three week vacation in Italy and our waitress, Christina, made our stay even more special for our kids.. She was truly amazing. There is no doubt we would come back to this hotel in a heartbeat! Thanks Villa Cheli, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you.

The hotel location and and facilites were good, We enjoyed our stay in an apartment the staff was very kind to offer us the apartment on the ground floor instead of the room at the 3rd floor.

I would suggest you not to opt for the 3rd floor rooms. the roof slope is very close to you. and the room feels stuffy.

Absolutely lovely setting - our apartment was spacious and well equipped.
The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Meals in the restaurant were good and beautifully presented. It was a joy eating outside with the colourful garden flowers.
The swimming pool was quiet -not heated and a little cool.
Very convenient position for visiting Pisa and Lucca.
Altogether highly recommend.

Bad room in a good hotel

We were assigned an upper floor room with no windows at all! Two small skylights that gave a view of the sky (only). Room was dark and dank. Food in the restaurant was exceptional one night and ok the second. Asked the front desk to print train tickets for us but twice they did not receive our email that we sent to have printed. Strange. And when we checked out there was significant disagreement in that they insisted we needed to pay for our stay when our hotels.com confirmation noted it was prepaid. Will have to check when we get home as we booked multiple hotels on this trip and thought we were prepaid here but not certain. And unwilling to miss our transport to Santa Margherita in order to find out.

We booked this hotel as we needed something local to Pisa airport due to a late arrival. The seaside types in Livorno etc looked a bit 'Blackpool' to me, but when I saw the listing for Hotel Cheli it immediately sprang out. We paid a little extra to stay here and were absolutely chuffed with the decision.

We arrived in the dark up the stunning driveway to the beautiful building. We were met by hotel dog and cat, and by the evening staff (the guy spoke no English so came across a little gruff). Our room was basically next to the balcony shown on the photos, recently renovated and in excellent condition. This really is a charming, relaxed and characterful hotel which I would highly recommend. Eventhe breakfast was remarkably varied for Italy - breads, meats, cakes, pastries, cream cakes, cereal, fruit, yoghurts etc etc and plenty of juices and coffee.

Criticisms? Virtually none - it is a little close to a road that got busy in the morning but I'm truly nitpicking now. We are experienced travellers and not easily pleased - I'd love to visit again.

Wir haben 10 Tage Aufenthalt im Hotel im Januar genossen. Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem freundlichen Service unter Berücksichtigung, dass aufgrund der Jahreszeit der Service leicht eingeschränkt war, worüber wir aber informiert wurden.
Es ist ein sehr romantisches Hotel in einer wundervollen Umgebung und einer Zufahrt meiner Träume. Es gibt ebenfalls genügend Parkplätze und eine funktionierende Ladestation für Elektroautos (3 phasig AC, mind. 11kW).
Einziger Verbesserungspunkt in unserem Zimmer ist die Dusche, welche viel zu klein geraten ist. Man kann sich darin kaum drehen.
Wir würden dieses Hotel jederzeit wieder buchen.

Et nydelig hotell i vakre omgivelser, hvor vi hadde en minneverdig og litt annerledes opplevelse. Vi var de eneste gjestene, og hotellet lå mørklagt ikke et lys var tent og ikke en ansatt å se, noe som skapte en spennende stemning. Etter en tur til butikken for å kjøpe vin, ost og skinke, oppdaget vi at det ikke var vinglass på rommet. Dette førte til en liten oppdagelsesferd rundt hotellet med lommelykten på telefonen – en morsom opplevelse, men kanskje ikke for alle.

Sengen var perfekt – verken for hard eller for myk – og sengetøyet deilig og varmt. Temperaturen på rommet var behagelig, noe som bidro til en god natts søvn.

Vi var her for å vurdere hotellet som mulig sted for å feire en 50-årsdag med 30 venner. Dessverre var det lite fleksibilitet når det gjaldt hvor vi kunne spise middagen. Vi ønsket å sitte ute i teltet for å unngå akustikken i murbygget, men dette lot seg ikke gjøre. Det var synd, for hotellet er virkelig en vakker plass.

La piscina es su mayor atractivo pero carece de servicio de bar.
Los desayunos son correctos pero la experiencia se arruina con el uso y recogida por parte del huesped de las bandejas (al mas puro estilo de restaurantes fastfood).
El servicio es amable pero el explicar la normativa del hotel junto a los diferentes carteles informativos que te recuerdan, por ejemplo, que si haces el check out fuera de tiempo debes pagar un dia extra (los hay en el ascensor y habitaciones) te hacen sentir bastante incomodo.
Si buscas ubicacion y piscina es una buena opcion.
Si buscas servicio deberias reservar otro hotel.

Vinherrgård vid Lucca. Wow!

Oerhört trevlig vinherrgård med 300 m till bussen till Pisa/Lucca så man kunde låta bilen stå. Buss är billigare än att parkera dessutom. En av de bästa restaurangerna under resan fanns på boendet och inom 10 min körning finns ytterligare trevliga restauranger. Ett stort plus för konstgräs runt poolen. Det blir fräschare. Vid busshållplatsen finns ett fantastiskt konditori med galateria. Rummen oerhört fräscha i gammal rustik stil. Stor frukostbuffe som även passar nordbor. Väldigt trevlig personal.

Este hotel es muy típico Toscana, es muy rústico lo cual en mi opinión lo hace único y precioso y es muy cerca de Luca ideal para ir en coche ya q tiene un parqueadero grande.

Härligt ställe!!

Fantastiskt ställe!!
Härliga rum och pool område.
Bra avstånd til Lucca, med vil. Ca 10 minuter.
Vi valde att äta utanför hotellet men menyn såg trevlig ut,
Trevlig personal , men tyvärr en del kryp i filtarna på rummet.

Eine schöne Unterkunft in toller Lage

Schöne alte Villa, geschmackvolle Zimmer. Zwei kleine Monita: Die Zimmer haben etwas wenig Schränke, also muss man aus dem Koffer leben. Der Kaffeautomat beim Frühstück macht keinen guten Kaffee.
Dafür ist die Lage sehr gut, 5min nach Lucca, 15 min nach Pisa. Das a la carte Restaurant ist ausgezeichnet, das Personal sehr freundlich. Der Pool ist ein Traum, mit ca 15m kann man da richtig schwimmen und es gibt für jeden ein Liege und einen Schirm. Gerne kommen wir wieder.

Prima typisch Toscaans hotel

Fijn hotel om van daaruit naar Florence, Lucca en Pisa te gaan. Het hotel is typisch Toscaans maar gedateerd en schoon. Het zwembad is fijn.

Es war alles sehr schön. Leider hat uns das Essen nicht geschmeckt im Restaurant aber das ist Wohl Geschmacksache. Sehr zu empfehlen und der Pool lädt zum entspannen ein.

Hotellet står på ingen måde mål med prisen.
Værelset var mørkt og trist med et vindue ud til rodet terrasse og ventilation.
Badeværelset var meget spartansk og interimistisk.
Morgenmaden uinteressant og kedelig.
Personalet var søde men ikke engageret i kunderne.
Hotellet egne billeder ser alt fint og romantisk ud, men desværre ikke i virkeligheden.

Très bel hôtel et très bien placé

Très bel hôtel avec un personnel charmant et avenant. L'endroit est superbe, le parc, la piscine et l'allée composée d'If est typique de la Toscane. L'hôtel est également très bien placé entre Lucca et Pise. Je recommande cet établissement notamment parce que je connais la plupart des établissements de la zone (visite professionnelle régulière sur Lucca) e celui-ci est un des meilleurs. Crdlt

Eine wunderschöne Villa mit tollem Pool. Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen, dass Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend und das Essen im Restaurant war einfach nur mega lecker.
