The hotel itself is well done. The rooms were good for the price and the amenities are well maintained.

The in room A/C is LOUD and not as effective as I’d have liked and the hotel food is just above mid-tier and priced as if someone in the kitchen won a Michelins star.

Sleep/swim/exercise here but eat elsewhere.

The coffee shop is the best thing about this hotel. There was no hot water during our stay. They said you have to let the water run for 25 minutes for it to warm up. First of all that's not even practical to have to wait 25 minutes, but even after waiting for an entire 30 minutes for it to warm up the water still never warmed up. They said they could only offer us free breakfast or free parking to help compensate when we complained about the water. There was zero solution the the water itself though. Just cold water all weekend. The hotel is also very outdated. The benefit is the central location to various spots in Springfield.

Room size was good. However A/C was broken on night 1. Then hot water was broken the last night and into the morning which meant no shower for me before traveling home. Ill overall property was muggy and felt damp. Also found a two ticks crawling on me in bed the first night. One was a lone star.

Now I know why this hotel was over $100 cheaper than the one I stayed at last year.

First the good. Hotel was very close to The Great Southern Bank Arena, within walking distance and the main reason we chose this hotel. All staff were amazing.
Now, the rest - The air conditioning was not working properly and our room never cooled off. Other guests said it had been that way for several days. There was no warning to us about this and as a menopausal woman who has hot flashes, this made my stay rather unpleasant. We had brought a small fan with us and I’m so glad we did, it was the only thing that made the stay bearable.
The hotel is very dated. The suite we were in had loose / yellowed electrical outlets and popcorn ceiling. Having spent $200 for a single night stay, I had expected a more comfortable stay.

The positives: the location and staff were great as well as the atrium area.
The not so good: the room was outdated and bathroom appeared dirty., upon arrival the lady at the desk said the air conditioner just got repaired and the room temps should improve. That did not happen unfortunately even after hours of having the thermostat set as low as possible. We went to Walmart at got a fan that made it tolerable in the room. The second day we had no hot water but made the best of it.
Breakfast buffet had a good selection and was decent.

The desk provided a partial credit for our troubles.

No cool air! When maintenance came he said we were out of luck, I asked if they had a fan, he snapped and said no, fans were for staff only and the only thing we could do was find another hotel! The next morning we had no hot water, maintenance again called and said we were out of luck again, might take 2-4 hours to look into!

The air conditioning was not working during our stay. When we asked the staff, they said it had been fixed and would be improving throughout the night. It never did improve so we left early because it was too humid and hot in the room. Also there was no hand soap in the bathroom and the lighting in the bathroom was very dim.

The only complaint I would have is the toilet had to be flushed at least twice to clear. I didn’t mention that to the front desk but should have, I’m sure they would have taken care of it had I. We liked that the hotel had both an indoor & outdoor pool but we were very disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the rooms. Our first room had a horrible smell in it and the team at the front desk was very good about moving us to another room. Unfortunately the air conditioner didn't work very well at all & we were on the top (9th) floor of the building. Also the microwave quit working & we called twice to get someone up to replace or fix it and never had anyone come to the room to even look at it. The last night there, there was a heavy rain and we woke up to wet carpet across the whole wall of windows. So needless to say we we very disappointed with our stay.

The people at the University Plaza were great. Very pleasant and friendly. The room was not great. It's old and outdated. The bathtub was dirty and stained. It definitely needs to be replaced. There are no USB connections anywhere in the room. The carpet is worn and also in need of replacement.
This used to be a great property and was one of the nicer places in Springfield at one time. Those days are in the past unless they upgrade and clean the place up a little.

Carpet needs stretched in all the common areas. Wrinkles create trip hazards.
Indoor fountain was turned off. We had family stay here when we were married 28 years ago. Doesn't look like it's been renovated or updated since then.

My room had remnants of bar soap in the shower. And as I was packing up, I noticed that the mattress protector was stained a brown/dark yellow. I spoke to the front desk. Zero refund was offered. I showed her the picture and she said ew that’s gross. And that’s about it. I’ve stayed here multiple times so I was really disappointed with this stay.

This used to be one of the nicest hotels in Springfield. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve been and you can tell things have slipped. Our room was average at best. There is a lot of updates that need to happen. We stay for convenience purposes, however Pool is down a lot for an indoor pool it feels ice cold tried 4x in 6 stays all same....
Rooms need updating. Seems they have tried but could do better.. Last time we were there water was flowing the the ceiling in many places to include dining and entrances. The breakfast is so gross so not worth the money.

I will never stay here again. I have stayed here twice already for work, but the second time has gotten me to finally just write a review. You're paying a good bit for breakfast that isn't good. At that point you're forced to buy from the cafe next to check in. The rooms smell and furniture is falling apart, couches felt unclean exactly like how a motel would leave them. It was like this the first time I stayed as well. Shower gets so hot that you could burn yourself. (It's the smallest adjustment of the knob to go from cold to scorching hot.) The morning I was leaving, that was not the first thing on my mind just waking up and ended up burning myself when I stepped in and ended up slipping and twisting my ankle. I only addressed it to the front desk to make sure they know that their water was capable of physically scorching people. A very young staff just dismissed me being sarcastic about how the shower works like I was an idiot who didn't know how water works. Another lady wrote down my name so she could "address it to the manager" later which I know she wouldn't so I don't know why she would waste both our times. This isn't exactly on the hotel but it is very noisy in general in the evenings and the hotel seems to have events pretty late or people returning from events. Children were screaming and running up and down the halls. It felt like there was a party right outside my room every night.

Great hotel. I was a kid in Springfield and remember watching this place get built in the late 70s/early 80s. It's still very nice. Bit of a time capsule, but the important stuff is updated. Got to stay here with my family on a recent trip back to Springfield and everyone had a nice time. Staff is lovely. Everyone friendly. Price is great. Location is amazing! Feels like home. Five stars!

They charge a parking fee to park your car in there parking lot for the hotel. They don't tell you about it....they just charge you for it. Was charged for parking my car during the stay. Third party bookings like Hotels.com don't cover parking per the hotel. I wasn't aware of any parking charges or informed of any.

This is a huge hotel that has a lot going for it, but go in with accurate expectations. It is really dated. Carpet is old, stained in places, and just tired looking. Wallpaper was ripped or scratched in a few places in our room. The bathroom had ceiling (sheetrock) paper that was cracked. Lighting felt dim overall. There were not nearly enough available outlets. Despite being old and not particularly well maintained, it still felt reasonably clean.

It's location near Missouri State Campus was helpful for us. The low price was probably the biggest sell to us however it does not come with a continental breakfast AND an additional $10/day parking fee that was never mentioned on the website, by the front desk, or when I booked with Hotels.com.

My kids liked the pools (one indoor and one outdoor). The staff was helpful when we needed to ask about something.

We've stayed here many times. It's an older property but still in pretty good shape. The room was in good shape and clean. My only complaint is the young lady that checked me in might've said three words to me. Didn't welcome me, explain the wi-fi, breakfast, nothing. We had been there enough it didn't matter but the lack of basic courteousness was disappointing and frankly, pretty sad.

There was soap left in our shower, the bottom of the tub was very slick. My fiancee is an amputee and I asked for a handicap bathroom, he had to sit on tub to spin around and then try to stand up. The outlets wouldn't hold my charger and the bed was very uncomfortable. I won't stay there again.

The restaurant and bar were closed on both days we were there. The AC in the room was loud. Be careful when showering as the tub is slippery and there is no mat to put down. Also, the shower curtain doesn’t stay closed so water goes everywhere which makes the tiled floor wet and slippery. The toiletries were a minimum.

The location was central and easy to find. It’s not far from restaurants and shopping, although they aren’t really a walkable distance, parking isn’t usually an issue in Springfield. It’s pet friendly and there were multiple guests with dogs. The hotel is built courtyard style, with 9 stories of floors that all look into the large central area over the restaurant. There is a coffee shop onsite. Room was large and very conveniently located. There is an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. The only ice machine is located on the 5th floor. The bed was ok as far as hotel beds go (we certainly have had worse). There were 2 styles of pillows (some firm, some fluffy). The room had a chair and a pull out sofa, as well as a table and two dining chairs. All of the chairs were reasonably comfortable, but the I don’t like the trend all hotels seem to have taken of housekeeping being only upon request, but it seems to be everywhere, not just this hotel. With limited housekeeping, there should be more than 1 small garbage can in the room. Breakfast was decent, but a little pricey. The lady who runs the breakfast was really wonderful, though. Dinner at the restaurant was pretty good, and the prices were reasonable.

Rooms need to be updated. Doors have torn up areas at the bottom. Walls have marks and smugs on them, the desk chair will not rise due to broken hydraulics. Front entrance needs the sidewalk power washed. Inside front windows above the front door has extremely dusty sills with bird droppings.

Have stayed at this property in years past and was great. Seems it gone down hill. Wife killed a large beatle type bug in the bathroom first 5 min. in the room. Room furnishes are very dated as well as bed mattress. There was a piece of like clear packaging tape across the threshold for bathroom to main room. I guess to hold carpet. And the will try to charge 10 dollars nightly to self part upon check out. With no previous mention in there booking details. I would never stay here again.

Hotel was old and well used. We stayed there several years ago without complaints, but the maintenance seemed lacking. It hasn’t been maintained in recent years. They treated Expedia customers as less than other customers. Example I was informed that I had to pay $10 per day for parking because I was an Expedia customer. Hidden fees! They didn’t clean our room or provide extra wash cloths for the second day. Toilet had a bad caulk job around the base and smelled of urine. They had a breakfast buffet. Online in advance cost was $26. At the door cost was $15. Some guests had vouchers but staff weren’t able to answer questions about who got those. There was nice lady cleaning the elevator who was very friendly. Pool patrons were nice and respectful but the water looked cloudy. There was a dead roach in the lobby that was about 1 inch long. I am glad I stayed there because I could walk to graduation, but my mom’s bathroom drain was super slow and the handle on the faucet fell off and the toilet seat was broken.

The room was old and filthy. No breakfast service except at the snack shop, where two breakfast sandwiches and two cups of coffee were outrageous. Only one person working in there on one of your busiest days of the year. You should be ashamed to charge that price for a night for this dump. When I made my reservation through Expedia, they advertised a breakfast buffet. So much for that. Expedia needs to drop your hotel. you're giving them a bad name.
