Room was infested with bedbugs. Was bit 20+ times. Staff was prompt in moving us to a new room but did not offer refund or compensation. The new room we were moved to had black mold on the ceiling of the shower.

It is not my habit to leave negative reviews, even when an experience is unpleasant. However, my stay at Novotel Athenes warrants an exception.

Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a Level 5 room with an “Acropolis view” and complimentary minibar for the entire stay — a benefit we are accustomed to as Accor Plus Gold members.

Unfortunately, things started to go south on Day 2.

When we returned to our room, the beds had been made and towels replaced, but the water bottles and minibar were not replenished. We assumed it was a simple housekeeping oversight. No big deal — we went downstairs to request a couple of bottles of water. The lady at the bar handed them to us rather reluctantly.

On Day 3, the same issue occurred — no water and no minibar replenishment. Without water, even making tea becomes impossible. The hotel is located in an unpleasant neighbourhood, and walking 650 metres to the nearest supermarket just to buy water should not be necessary in a 4-star hotel. We went downstairs again to request water. This time, the bar staff’s body language and the comments she made to her colleague in Greek screams like we are some freeloaders asking for more than we were entitled to — problem is, we were not given any!

Room was very small for 3 people (2 Adult + 14 years old child). No privacy in bathroom as glass door had no locks. 2 Paper cups were there with one bottle of water. No tissues in the room. Pillows were very poor quality so we had to change it very first night.
Wi-Fi was extremely slow so we stopped using it. Location of the hotel is not good at all. We walked a couple of times from Monastiarky to hotel around 5pm and crossing omonia area was very scary. Beggars and anti social elements were everywhere. Vegetarian options were limited for the breakfast and dinner so we won't have dinner there.
We booked this hotel thinking to view Acropolis from the rook top area, but it was locked.
Staff were good but hotel wasn't. I will not recommend if anyone is booking with family.

The room was nice but I could still from the stains in the carpet and the walls, the room hadn’t been deep cleaned in a while. Hotel staff were nice and the breakfast buffet was fanstastic. The biggest con was the location. The location was under construction and I only felt safe walking during daytime on specific roads. If you took a wrong turn you could land in a sketchy poorly lit area.

We had booked two rooms. All 4 of us have skin itchiness. The hotel was not clean unfortunately. I will not book it again. Breakfast tables were not clean so as the cutlery. Area around the hotel is not safe. Dont walk alone outside.

The property itself is lovely. Only issues was when I checked in, my shower was wet and seemed dirty/not kept up. Water would leak from one side of the door due to lining falling off. Area around the hotel is the only real downside. Walked around the streets around it and saw human waste on sidewalks not even a block away. A rat also almost ran across my foot at the same area. Recommend taking taxis or arranging rides over walking if you stay here.

The rooms had broken sockets, mould and pretty run-down, not safe for young children. The area of where the hotel was located the locals kept saying was unsafe and reframe from walking the area. 5 mins from the hotel in day saw drug uses taking drugs and needles on the floor.

The service was mostly excellent, and the place was very nice. We were very comfortable there. The neighborhood directly surrounding the hotel may look rough, but it's not far from nicer looking areas, and I felt fine walking around. It is a great deal for a very nice place to stay not far from the Agora and Acropolis and fantastic restaurants.

Warm hospitality but disappointing overall for a N

The highlight of our stay was the hospitality of Costas at the rooftop restaurant – truly warm and welcoming. The view of the Acropolis from the rooftop is beautiful. However, the food was very overpriced (e.g. €22 for a basic souvlaki) and didn’t match the setting. The pool was a nice addition, though small and often crowded. Rooms were clean but dated, and the surrounding area felt unsafe at night. Overall, underwhelming for a Novotel.

The front desk staff in the morning versus the evening were night and day. The evening staff were kind, professional, and very helpful. While the rooftop pool and the staff at the restaurant upstairs were great, there’s limited dining around the hotel. Also, there’s a lot of graffiti in the area of the hotel. The hotel itself is nice, it’s just very dated. I did have a small issue at the very beginning when we checked in. Even at check-in they did not have my room available and left me waiting in the lobby for over an hour past check-in. Upon entering my room, I had to call housekeeping back because there was hair in the shower, on the floor, and in the sink.

I have stayed at Novotel's around the world and really not impressed with this one.
Supposed to be a 4* but would be lucky to be a 3*.
Paper cups in the rooms. terrible coffee, the shower barely had any pressure at all, no spare blankets or pillows.
BUT the staff at the rooftop bar/restaurant were amazing. Couldn't do enough for us even though it seemed as though they were very understaffed. Great team up there!

Lovely hotel within walking distance (even with my kids) from the metro, the rooftop restaurant and pool are great. The food was gorgeous and there is a great view of the Acropolis. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Shout-out to Maria at the rooftop restaurant and bar! Breakfast was delicious with a ton of options. This hotel is perfect for visiting Athens and the rooftop pool was ideal as we stayed in July.

Filthy carpets and would in the shower. Breakfast tables not cleared. No napkins. Guests using hands to take food from breakfast buffet. An incredible difference between the photographs of the hotel and the reality. I will never stay in a Novotel again. The group should properly inspect their properties. This establishment was unsanitary abd beyond shabby. Cheap but not that cheap to justify the conditions.

Hotel room not ready when we arrived - no big deal so we waited and then within 20 minutes they started giving rooms out and we went up and they said - yes yours is ready. Not a good start. Then on Sunday our toilet would not flush and they had. I maintenance - so we had to switch rooms - pain. Why no maintence at a hotel that was very busy? When we checked in they had out luggage and when our room was ready the gentleman at desk said go ahead and get luggage and the lady at desk started yelling at me and then security came out from back and started yelling that we do not work here and cannot get luggage but then the First Gentleman came back and said wot theme get it. It was a shitshow and very unprofessional since we were told to get it. Not a good start to our vacation in Athens.

We were woken up 3 times by the room service in the morning although the check out was only at 12 pm.
We were late for breakfast by 19 min and it was cold so we didn’t use the service.
Not recommended and not going to stay there again.

Their customer service is really good, and the view from the roof near the swimming pool is amazing! We stayed in this hotel in the middle of April for a few days. It was still very cold to swim in the pool. That was really pity. Staff in the reception and dinning area are very nice. All the public facilities and spaces are very good, but all the rooms are very old and need update. The carpet in the room really need change and clean, just so dirty.

I can live with an old hotel room, but I worried about the location of the hotel when I was there. It located in a poor area in Athens. When I walk back from the tour bus station to the hotel, we can smell pees and rubbish on the street. Many of the buildings around the hotel are in very horrible conditions. Some of the streets are very dirty, and some people on the street were wired, some of them were digging through the rubbish bin.I felt very sorry to them and a bit nervous. I would not recommend hotel to people come with young kids for a holidays. You can definitely find somewhere nicer,. This hotel could be a perfect and cheap option for travellers who just stop by Athens for a night or two and use taxi as a transport.

It is a cheap and not bad option, if you want to save some money. Mainly because the hotel itself is good. However, if you want a perfect holiday, you need to spend some more money and find else where. In the end of the day, you get what you paid for.

The buildings around the hotel are very run down and when the taxi driver dropped us, he warned us to keep our belongings out of sight and not come back too late. There were a lot of “men” on the streets around the hotel. I was glad I was with my husband as I wouldn’t have felt safe travelling with other women there. After the initial disappointment that the pool and roof top restaurant/ bar were closed as out of season, and that our room did not have the desired view of the acropolis as advertised, we actually enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and clean.

Excellent breakfast variety. Service lacking urgency/focus to please but could be a cultural difference. No swimming pool functioning in hotel ( why we chose it) and not explained anywhere until we arrived and sked to use pool. Gym is just one machine and some weights.

I stayed at this property for 13 days. The neighborhood is safe during the day to walk, but at night is unsafe. Best to use taxi’s for getting to tourist spots in Athens. The facility, staff, food, and rooms were spectacular. I really enjoyed my vacation here. The staff at this hotel are the kindest and most service oriented professionals that I have ever experienced. If you are looking for an authentic experience of daily Athenian life this hotel is for you. If you are looking for a manicured resort experience this may not be a good option for you. But for seasoned travelers this is a wonderful place to hang your hat and rest after exploring the sites of Athens.
