A wonderful stay with warm Mediterranean hospitality!
\"I had a great experience at The Tier Hotel. I would like to thank all the reception staff, especially 'Maria', for her beautiful smile, warm welcome, and helpful advice. The management has truly succeeded in choosing such a wonderful team.
The location is excellent, just about 150 meters from the metro station, making travel around Athens incredibly easy. Although the room was a bit small, it was good, comfortable, and the price was very reasonable.
Most of the people here are very friendly; like everywhere in the Mediterranean, you can truly feel the warmth and respect. If I visit Athens again, I will definitely repeat the experience!\"

Our three night stay turned into one brief night and early departure for a couple reasons. The main reason is that the photos do not accurately represent the room you are paying to stay in and the door knobs to the bathrooms were not accessible for my partner who has a disability. We were offered to switch to a different room after expressing this but were told that all rooms had the same door knobs to the bathrooms (you have to click a hard button and twist).

The bathroom was extremely small where the toilet is crammed between the shower door and bathroom sink. There was a moldy smell coming from the bathroom as well (along with visible mold).

The hotel area is very sketchy and the guests staying within are representative of that. The walls were extremely thin and you can hear every sound throughout the building. There was a guest coughing/hacking from 10:30pm to 4:30am. You could also hear the guest being intimate and banging for hours, which may be in alignment considering the local atmosphere and number of sex workers that line the streets.

Staff friendly and very helpful, let me store suitcase until 9 pm. The room itself was fine, but noticed a few cockroaches, which I could handle. No bedbugs, which is far more important. Had trouble entering my room at night with the sensor-activating key card, but after several attempts it worked. No staff on duty at night, so it would have been a problem had it not. All of this being said, it’s a decent budget hotel and I would stay there again.

The neighborhood isn't the best, but overall it's a fairly safe area with good transport links. Friendly staff. The standard room is quite cramped, especially the shower cabin. The room has a kettle, disposable cups, and a small fridge. Comfortable bed and good quality bedsheets. Overall, an acceptable option for the money. Upon arrival, Expedia loyalty program members are greeted with a complimentary bottle of decent Greek white wine in the room.

You get what you pay for. Stayed 4 nights as a couple getaway to Athens and vicinity. Hotel offers basics - room, shower, bedsheets, towels, kettle. There is no housekeeping/towel change unless you specifically request it. It is VERY noisy, you will hear all neighbours on all floors, nearby construction, traffic from the road and pigeons on the windowsill. Highly recommend packing earplugs and eye mask. Location of the hotel is also sketchy with homeless tent “village” just across the block, sometimes you can see people smoking crack sitting on the road side on your way back in the evening and some discarded syringes nearby. Even at reception they advise to take an underground instead of walking… thankfully we had no incidents as tried to avoid / crossed the road and moved quickly through.
Cheap furniture, a bit mouldy shower/sink, stiff bed and dated laminate with cracks in the surface, it is far away from luxury or even good level of comfort. No breakfast offered and no cafes in immediate vicinity, so you need to plan ahead.
But with all fairness, for a price of £43/night and 20min walking distance to Athens central locations (or 10 min by public transport) it is still a decent deal and does the job, but beware that it looks better on pictures and try to avoid the creepy areas.

We found the property very good. The hotel was near some really nice places to eat and the Stanley Café near the hotel was fantastic. The hotel itself was personally ideal. It was perfect for a short visit to Athens. It was clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly and I would definitely stay there again if I went to Athens the area around the hotel is not the best but we were fine. We didn’t have any issues.

Terrible stay. You get what you pay for. Tiny room and bathroom with a toilet that you cannot use if you are medium or large size person. Bums and graphite on the street. No reception staff from 10 PM to 8 AM so if you're locked out of your room during this time, good luck to go back in.

Sketchy people outside, probably not good for coming home late, but they made no hassle during the day. Good access to transport and able to walk to most things easily. Hotel is clean, safe, tidy, with lift, and a very up to date security doors. Convenient location. Near to metro station. Staff very friendly and helpful. The only annoying thing was a leak in the bathroom coming from shower, but not a big deal, only 1 toilet paper in the bathroom, also, the area is a bit dodgy, we must be careful going around , even though i could go around by foot without any problem.

It’s a good place to stay. Very convenient for getting around since it’s only about a block away from the subway station. The only issue I had was there is an escape room across the street that opens at night and you can hear people talking that are waiting in line. Also, that noise carries from the other floors through the marble staircase. But that’s more of an older person issue like myself, wouldn’t be a problem for someone younger.

The hotel worked for sleeping, but I would not recommend or stay there again. The bathroom smelled atrocious, like sewage and sitting water. We couldn't get that smell to go away. The hotel room itself just seemed like it had a face lift, but it wasn't overly clean. The street on the right of the hotel is filled with homeless people doing drugs and other stuff... As two women walking around that area, I did not feel safe being out there after 10PM at night, it was loud, rowdy, and dirty, (and I live 10 minutes from Baltimore, Maryland). I wanted to like the hotel, but the smelly room and bathroom combined with the area around the property, I would not stay there.

Decent Stay in Athens

Hotel was located in a slightly run down part of town, but it was close to a metro station and pricing was very competitive - two major factors why I chose to stay at this property. The metro was very handy, as it afforded easy access to the Acropolis, Syntagma, and Monastiraki Square. All these locations are also accessible via walking, but it is a bit on the longer side, and it does require walking through some of the run down parts of town, where there is a noticeable homeless population. On the bright side, I did stumble across a farmers market on Psaron Street (one block west of the hotel), north of Favierou (one block north of the hotel). There were many fruits and vegetables for sale at competitive prices, as well as clothing and knick knacks for several blocks. The hotel itself gave a bit more of a hostel feel, but my room was recently furnished, and seemed relatively spacious, with a balcony. I did receive a free upgrade and a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival due to my gold membership with Hotels.com, which was a nice perk. Wifi worked well. The only issue I had with my room was that once in a while, I would see a small bug scurry across the floor. I don't think the hotel is dirty per se, but my room was one floor above the ground (floor 1) so I imagine bugs getting in from the balcony or something. There were no food options at the hotel, but there were places nearby. Receptionist was very helpful every time. Overall a decent stay.

The Tier gives you access to so much of what Athens has to offer...the wonderful neighborhoods with awesome food and such. The historical sites, museum nearby.
It is in a neighborhood going through rehabilitation so lots of work being done and not as well groomed as other parts of Athens--never mind! The hotel is wonderful. Will definitely stay at Hotel Tier if I get back to Athens!

The hotel and the rooms match the description. However, the bathroom is very small, and it's difficult even for a thin person to turn around without bumping into something.

The hotel was undergoing renovations, so it was very noisy during the day. However, the noise stopped immediately when I called the front desk. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and you get what you pay for.

The property was clean, and the staff friendly, and fairly helpful obtaining things that should have been in the room (as per the Expedia listing). It was also conveniently placed less than 5 minutes from the Metro. The cleaner was efficient. The staff kindly held my luggage the last afternoon so I could get lunch after checking out.
However, the room looked out over a building site, and will eventually look at a wall with no view. I guess single rooms are always the worst! There was a small, wobbly refrigerator and a kettle, but no coffee mug, or drinking glasses, only a single paper cup! I eventually got a wine glass and two very small glasses - no mug! The iron and ironing board were missing. At first they wanted to give me an iron with frayed flex, but eventually bought a cheap iron and table top ironing board which kept collapsing. There are no smoke alarms. There is no toilet in the reception area - when I needed one when returning for my luggage after checkout I was sent into the basement to use the staff one. The hotel is a lot more “basic” than I expected, and in a bit of a rundown area.

But I did love that I was able to walk to stores, restaurants and cafe bars with no problem. Overall, if you're ok with simple things and on a budget, this place is perfect. If you're high maintenance, then I would find another place.

I stayed in the Tier Hotel only for 3 nights and it felt like the right time. The room was very utilitarian and basic in a clean condition with a window view to the wall of another building being under construction. So, during the day it was quite noisy. There was not any room cleaning for those 3 nights. The location is very convenient and close to the central metro station. If you plan to be out and about for the entire day, it is a good place for the night to rest. If you plan to savour the city's view of Acropolis and having more pampering experience you might want to book a large hotel across the square.

The pillows and the linens had left hair from previous residents and I freaked out. The worst part of my stay is that I forgot at my checkout my electric tooth brush and when I claimed it they kept telling me they didn't find anything! Such a bad joke the whole experience.

Lovely spacious room and great, friendly staff.

It is close to one of the dodgier areas of Athens so don’t walk down Satovriandou Street if seeing groups of homeless, drug affected people bothers you.

If you’re getting here via public transport go to Metaxiurgio station and walk that way - you’ll avoid seeing all that stuff plus it’s closer, don’t go to Omonia station walk that way or you’ll end up in the heart of the action!

Overall the experience at the hotel itself was good. However the area around it was slightly sketchy to say the least. The hotel felt safe at all times with a very friendly staff and atmosphere. The area of the city where the hotel is located has a few areas to be avoided specifically at night but it’s only a few euros cab back from the popular sights or take the train with a very convenient station!

Hotel is next to a dodgy street which one can easily avoid by taking path from metro instead. The hotel's location lets it down, with many homeless and drug addicts in the nearby streets. I was travelling solo, so felt I needed to be careful about coming and going from the property. That said, the location is central and close to public transport and the centre of Athens city. The staff were welcoming, informative and helpful, and while the rooms are a little tired, it was comfortable and good value for the price. I didn't have the breakfast, but it was included in the tariff.

I stayed twice here and the rooms were very nice. Especially the one with a balcony.
The staff were very sweet and service minded.
The hotel is located were gentrified Athens meets the problematic drug districts. If you are familiar with Athens this should not phase you. Just use the route to the hotel coming via Metaxorgeou metro instead of Omonia.
My only complaint was I thought batbrooms cleaning was very clumsy. I saw hairs and smudges from previous guests and certain the hotel can perform in this respect.
