TERRIBLE LOCATION - literally surrounded by drug users, it is NOT in a good neighborhood.

The room and hotel itself is fine, fairly clean, although the glasses in our bathroom were dirty. It had nice pillows and decently comfortable bead. You get what you pay for, it was serviceable but by no means great. Had I known about the neighborhood I would never have booked.

Close to the Acropolis. Close to the market. Surrounding is not great but the place for me is okay. To save money, time and effort this is kind of a wise hotel to stay into for few nights. Personally, I would go back here and stay.

Great few days in this amazing city!
Hotel was a bit far away from everything, although nothing is really central. Area concerned us st first with what seemed like street workers around but we felt safe if careful- like any city.
The hotel is old and tired in places but this is made good by the attitude and service from staff- very welcoming and happy to help with anything. Seems family run , always a smile and a chat from reception. Breakfast staff a little different but food ample and coffee great!
Give this hotel a try - even though it’s out if the way, the main stations are within 5 min walk.

Decent hotel in not so good area

An Oasis in a desert of Squalor

A very nice hotel with excellent service and comfort. The staff could not have been more helpful. Great choice for breakfast and lovely dining area. WiFi a bit inconsistent and room a bit small but other than that cannot fault it.
As for the area it is located (Off Omonia Square), this was ghastly...shuttered up buildings, litter, graffiti everywhere, rough sleepers with very heavy smell of urine. Very intimidating after dark, working girls in evidence day and night. The walk to and from the Metro (where I had my wallet pickpocketed on day one) was basically a frightening experience...even walking as a couple. It is a pity such an excellent hotel has seen such a degradation in its surroundings.

Nothing as it was advertised in the pictures. Small room and bad conditions (sound isolation was bad, air-conditioning not working properly, wifi not reachable from the room). Also the stuff were not helpful at all. Bad service in general. The stuff asked me for more money in order to host 1 more person with me. Not recommending this hotel

Ok hotel in marginal location

Ok hotel in marginal area. Inexpensive stay in clean hotel. Breakfast was good, not a lot of variety and an odd combination of food, but overall filling. Interactions with the female receptionist was like many with other Greeks, you left feeling slightly offended and put down and not sure if you got your point across, but not a big deal. Overall good stay.

The area where is the hotel, is terrible! Close to metro but around bad places, hotel is nice, I would love to spend another night there but not with that location, I didn't feel safe even standing outside the hotel door..

Time off in Athens

The staff is really polite and hardworking. It seems they also have great relationships with each other, so they work well as a team. Housekeeping, breakfast, front desk, and support staff were a pleasure. The room was simple and comfortable. Public space was very clean, too. They also took time with many guests during our stay (including us) to give directions and suggestions for their guests. It is about a 7 minute walk to a major subway, though we walked everywhere from there. Try them out. We (couple) were pleased.

Simple but nice hotel in a good location

The hotel was fine in general. The owner was helpful about any information. His wife wasn't nice, like she gave me a favour to answer any question.
While booking it was said free breakfast was included, but in the end - it wasn't. Luckily, there are some cafes, bars and restaurants, where you can eat tasty food and for good price.
Rooms are not sound-proof, I could hear everything.
Wi-fi available only in public areas - not in the rooms. When I wanted to talk to my family, I wanted some privacy, but I had to go to the lounge area, where there was no air-condition (it was over 40 degrees, it was boiling).
The room was cleaned properly.
I booked my room online and the price was good. If you walk-in it's quite expensive.

In general - the hotel was fine, but nothing special. Good for short term staying.

When asked if there was a restaurant nearby, a lady receptionist told me that she would tell me after I had paid for the breakfast which was really poor and was the same everyday with fouled meat and shrinked oranges and without any vegetable.

The hotel was actually quite ok, except for two things. There was a strong unpleasant smell to the room. But apart from that it seemed quite clean. And of course the neighbourhood. On the plus side, it's 5 minutes away from Omonia metro station, where metros leave every 5-10m starting from 5 or 5.30 in the morning, allowing you to change in Syntagma for the airport. On the minus side, as we were exiting the hotel around 6 in the morning, we saw a hooker injecting drugs close outside.I don't think one should be worried about safety or anything like that.

Good value for your money but...

Hotel is good for what they charge but is in a very ugly zone, the room is small, basic and clean, staff is rude mainly the Mrs. that never saw my face when asked me for my passport in a VERY rude way, they (the couple that manage the hotel) think they are doing a favor to you....very rude, again.

Close to Omonia Square

The hotel was in a quiet area. It's a 5 minute walk from Omonia which was nice so we could get to most places on the Subway. It was also really close to the National Archeological Museum.

The hotel has a rooftop which was fantastic! We would pick up a gyro in Omonia then hang out on the rooftop before bed.

The staff was really friendly and did a great job keeping the room clean.

The only downside for us was that the showers were too small; it was awkward showering so close to the wall. Our bed kept slipping away from the wall when we were leaning on the headboard to watch t.v. but we were out and about most of the time so it didn't really bother us.

The rates were definitely good at Solomou. Well worth staying here!

Great location, in the centre of Athens within walking distance of all the main tourist attractions and plenty of food shops. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, organising cabs and luggage for us. Rooms are clean but very basic with a lot of repair jobs apparent, broken fridge in our room and no view whatsoever, but fine for just sleeping in.

Family hotel for short stay

The hotel is in a \"bad part\" of town. Though the city of Athens is particularly run-down, if you are alert and don't walk around at night, you will be safe. I am a woman traveling by herself and I didn't feel particularly uncomfortable. The hotel is clean and the breakfast spread is definitely worth it. The wifi is below average. But the owners will go above and beyond for you. They gave me a fridge and stored my luggage for free. It's very close to the Omonia stop and it's a short 10 minutes to the Akropolis which is amazing!

No Wi-Fi Good Hotel

The Hotel was very nice, the staff was very helpful. Our only complaint (and it's a big one) was that the hotel advertises Wi-Fi. We could connect in our room but got horrible connectivity if any at all. If you need to stay connected for any reason you might wish to find a different hotel.

Horrible Experience. I booked a room for 2 adults and 1 kid, but got accommodation for only two people. When I asked the hotel management for an additional bed, they started shouting at me and misbehaved. The old man and old lady thought they are doing me a favor by letting me stay at the hotel.

I had to eventually book another hotel for my stay at Athens.

Also the area adjacent to this hotel is not family friendly.

Accommodation was clean and staff were nice enough for budget rooms. However, the hotel is let down by the location. We got taxis back each night because it didn't feel safe walking and every driver felt the need to warn us about that part of town. Not the hotel's fault, but something to keep in mind.

Hi to all, and we would like to recommend the hotel to everyone who need accommodation close to the city centre, simple and adequate stay, with nice service. Our expectations was: clean room, breakfast, refrigerator and wifi in the room, and we were given even more.... because this is quiet street, which is a major thing for us (having 3.5 years old kid). Some people are talking about safety and surrounding area of the hotel.... but we felt so comfortable, in our 4 days/ 3 nights stay here. We would definitely recommend Solomou Hotel

After being on the road for some weeks now, this was by far the most disappointing hotel experience. The room was basic, which was expected, and the key card didn't work at first. The surrounding neighborhood was pretty dodgy and there were homeless people at the front of the hotel. There were few places to eat around but the hotel was only a short walk from the train station and only two stops to the centre of town. But the conduct of the hotel manager was the most disappointing-at least I think he was the hotel manager! On our second night we went to go out for dinner and a man who we hadn't seen before (not the person who checked us in the night before) came out and told us to leave our room key at reception....we thought it was because we had trouble with the key the night before, but no, his reason was because he wanted to know who was coming and going in the hotel. This made us very uncomfortable, especially given this policy was not explained to us on check in. If you have the opportunity to stay elsewhere, do it!

Cheap and quick

Had to stay in Athens overnight due to a morning flight. Solomou Hotel was adequate for our needs, central location and cheap. People keep talking about the \"bad neighbourhood\", though it didn't feel bad to us. Don't expect a luxury stay, you get what you pay for. But if you just need a place to sleep and a warm shower, you'll get it here.

Good value for the price

The hotel is centrally located, and good value for the price. One of the hotel owners, Yannik, who spoke five languages - Greek, English, French, German, and Romanian - was very hospitable and warm. There were some issues for instance internet wifi wasn't working, TV has only one English channel (i.e. MTV) otherwise the rests were Greek, and one of the employee was quite rude.

First off, though the location is close to the sights of Athens the neighbourhood is sketchy, dirty and full of pimps, hookers, and drugs. Walking to the hotel from the metro station with anything of value always felt unsafe. Half of the staff were great, but the afternoon/evenning staff were very unhelpful. We had a problem with our room (it smelled like stale urine) and tried to get moved. Despite the hotel being practically empty, the guy at the desk was very put out about moving us. First he argued with us that it was impossible that the room smelled. Then, and hour into this, he called in the maid who agreed with us at which point he finally moved our room but stood there rolling his eyes as we shifted our stuff. The new room had stains on the sheets that looked like the bed may not have been cleaned. Since it was 11pm already and we didn't have help with the other problem we decided to just sleep on top in our clothes. If it had not been for the morning staff fixing the sheet problem we would have changed hotels for our remaining 2 nights in Athens. There is also a friend of the hotel who would come and smoke in the dining hall during breakfast right beside the no smoking sign. Personally I can't stand the smell of second hand smoke, especially while I am trying to enjoy a meal.

Budget hotel located in scary neighbourhood

You get what you pay for. We read prior reviews and were aware of the neighbourhood location, but we didn't think it was that bad. Wrong assumption, it was scary walking home at night from the metro station.

NO picked up from the airport as agreed upon. We waited for long time, then when we got in the hotel it is scary place around,,,lots of homeless and addicts. The room smells and too hot, the TV is not working. The receptionist is the only one working, cleaning, serving the breakfast which was like nothing,,,old hard cakes and bread. We saw him holding the bread with bear hand. We had to check out the following day and find another place to stay. Not recommended for anybody to stay.

Easy access to Tram. Also walking distance to main attactions of the Acropolis. Staff were very helpful and we liked that they kept an eye on \"who\" would come into the hotel. They were very mindful to ensure that they had a safe environment for the guests. The only bad side of the hotel was that the area is close to Omonia square and it is a hang out for homeless people and drug users. However, we were never approached by any of these characters when we were walking to and from the hotel. There are a lot of police officers in the area walking the beat as well. Breakfast in hotel in the morning was very simple and the same every morning. On some evenings we would sit outside on the top floor and enjoy drinking some wine and watching the sunset.

We had a very nice stay on this hotel. The area, which a lot of other reviewers have mentioned, is really not that bad. We came home at all hours of the day, and we never felt unsafe. That being said, Athens is a capital, and Greece is having a rough time, so one should always be careful. The staff was very nice and very helpful. Breakfast was okay, but not amazing. Room was good, not noisy, but we lived on the 7th floor, so hard to judge. Very satisfied with this hotel.

it was an ok hotel, but I won't stay there again. The neighborhood was terrible with homeless people all around. We didn't have problems but we were scared to walk around, mostly at night. The room was ok but the bathroom wasn't good at all, Very small shower with filthy curtains that liked all the time soaping the floor. The elevator was terrible and we were terrified with it because it look like the floor was falling down.

Take a taxi at night only 4/5 euros, much safer

The neighbourhood is the only bad thing about this hotel. Yet walk 2blks and you would never know. When you leave, always turn left; wlk 2 blocks; you have a choice turn left again 2/3 blks you will find the Ntl Arch. Museum. Or turn right, head to Plaka square. After 6blks Aiolou St. has no cars on it all the way down bottom. At night my wife and I would pick out a roof top terrace and enjoy the Acroplolis lit up. We payed 4-5 eros taxi back to the hotel. The staff is freindly and helpful. Brkfast is good, and the price is right.

Nice hotel in small budget

Me and my wife spent 4 nights in this hotel. I searched and found that few people wrote some comments about this hotel. In my opinion, this hotel is a good option if your budget is small. The location of the hotel is very convinient and it is hardly 10 minutes walk by omonia station. The surrounding area is not too bad as i was imagining that it is bad after reading couple of reviews. we did not have any problem. The hotel staff is very nice and friendly. They gave us many useful informations. The breakfast is buffet and it is ok. The room was clean and the service is ok too. Only one concern which we felt is that the lock of the room is not good and it is difficult to judge that the room is locked or not, when you are inside the room. But we did not have any problem. We had lovely time and I believe that the hotel is a good option for the people who have small budget.

Hotel Solomou convenient to Metro and good value

This is a nice little budget hotel. My room was very clean and had everything the traveller needs. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Location is about a 5 minute walk from Omonia Metro stop which is 2 stops from Syntagma Square. Great location. You have to walk through a little seedy area, but it was not threatening or unsafe. The only thing which should be improved is the buffet breakfast included in the hotel price. It was marginal. Still, the hotel is a great value.

Overall the hotel itself was not bad beside that it didn't feel like the floors were fully cleaned, minor flaw for me but perhaps bigger for other people. AC worked fine and if you want just a cheap place to stay it is fine. But it is not in an area where you would like to check in during the evening since it is located in Omonoia, something I should of checked out before. Omonoia is not a place where you should be walking alone during late evening

Es un hotel pequeño, que se ve antiguo. Las habitaciones tienen aire acondicionado, cosa que es necesaria porque no te atreves ni a abrir la ventana. El desayuno muy pobre, el baño pequeño y el ascensor poco seguro y sin puerta.
La zona donde esta ubicado no es nada segura, gente durmiendo en el suelo y pidiendo. Personas pasando drogas y excrementos por la calle. Aunque sea centrico no te transmite seguridad para volver de noche.
El hotel esta en una calle bastante sucia y mal cuidada.

Very much noisy area and also noisy hotel. Bad service for breakfast, not very welcoming reception and manager since when we asked for extra pillow and blanket they asked too many questions and we felt really bad, not good cleaning services at all.

Todo correcto, confort y servicios y muy buena atención pero la zona donde está ubicado el hotel es conflictiva de droga.
Por el día nos desplazábamos andando pero por la noche decidimos volver al hotel en taxi.

員工很友善，讓我們提早入住，給了我們一個三人房很大，早餐豐富多元好吃

旅館的地點還不錯，可是附近的環境感覺比較髒亂，旅館的員工很友善，讓我們提早入住，給了我們一個三人房，早餐吃得很好豐富多元，雅典的古蹟大部分走路再20到30分鐘都可以到達，價錢不是很貴，是雅典觀光，我很推薦的旅館

Hotel económico con desayuno incluido

Hotel bonito, con amplio horario para hacer el check in. El personal es muy amable y tienen servicio de guardamaletas. La habitación es estupenda y las camas son cómodas. El desayuno está bantante bien y cada vez que algo se acaba inmediatamente sacan más. La zona es algo peligrosa, pero moviéndonos por las avenidas principales no tuvimos problemas.
