This is a beautiful hotel min an historic building that honors its past. Everything about it is beautiful. Convenient location and walkable to most everything. We loved the gym, spa and rooftop pool. Highly recommend.

Upon arrival, the front desk was super helpful in getting us booked with the excursions we wanted to do during our stay. We also booked a massage at the spa, which was great, along with the amenities. The bar and pool on the top level has spectacular views!

Great place to stay, great location for walking around. The room was small but we were just there to sleep so it was fine. The rooftop bar, lounge area, by the pool was a great place to hang out. Front desk staff were super helpful and attentive. We didn't take full advantage of the spa which was our mistake, until the last day.

Excellent staff, very helpful and kind throughout my stay. The room was clean, the A/C worked great, and the hotel itself was spotless and beautifully maintained. The property has a lot of character and history, which adds to the overall experience.

The location is excellent, right on La Rambla and within easy reach of many of Barcelona’s major attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas. It felt like the perfect central base for exploring the city without needing to travel far.

I would definitely stay here again. The only aspect I can’t comment on is the rooftop pool, spa, food, laundry service, and bar, as I didn’t personally use those amenities during my stay. Based on everything else, however, this was easily a 5/5 star experience.

Excellent hotel. Arrived Barcelona around 6:30 am and made our way to the hotel to check bags until we could check in. Iris met us with a warm welcome and advised our room was ready. What a wonderful surprise! We had one of the smaller inside rooms. Plenty of room for 2 and was very quiet. Would book this room again. Hotel is absolutely beautiful and very clean. Loved the rooftop pool with bar and food. Great location. I do recommend the breakfast. The carrot cake was divine. Would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous hotel - really enjoyed our stay. The rooftop space with pool was an added bonus and bigger than a lot of other hotels so was a huge bonus. Location is perfect, in the centre of everything and the staff couldn't do enough for you.
Breakfast was ok and what you would expect for a hotel breakfast but felt they could have done a bit better in this area and had a different variety of foods. It was pleasant enough, just not outstanding for what you would expect for the kind of hotel. Got a bit monotonous towards the end of the holiday.

The location of the hotel is ideal in the La Rambla. It's also a short walk to the oldest market in Barcelona as well as major metro lines. We did not add breakfast to our stay since there are oodles of choices within walking distance of the hotel. Room we stayed in were cleaned and functional. La Rambla is a noisy area; however, a rumbling sound from the subway every few minutes can be problematic for some sleepers. We were on the fourth floow and not sure if this happens on higher floor, check with hotel. Big caveat, there are major construction work around La Rambla venue at this time. This will add extra noise and dust level during the day time. By the scale of it, this can last for many more months.

Nice hotel but it’s not five star luxury. No concierge to help. No restaurant for dinner. Roof bar closes by 6 pm but sunset is after 8 pm. Also you can head the rumble of the subway tram below the building even on the third floor.

This was our first trip to Barcelona and was a little worried about staying so close to the Rambla. All the worries disappeared very quickly once we checked in. Hotel was in immaculate condition. Well maintained and the rooms were very quiet, clean and comfortable. Well maintained stayed in a room with a balcony and were able to listen to music and city life. Once we were done we closed the door and the city noise disappeared. Well located to shopping food and entertainment. Thank you 1898.

This was the nicest hotel we have ever stayed at. We had a terrace room which was incredible and the terrace was massive. The spa was beautiful and the breakfast was yummy. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Perfect position but staff not very receptive.
Got my watch stolen and tried to get reception to help me but they didnt care. Just handed me a paper with police address without even caring if i was ok.
Spent alot of money on massages and facials but got told to leave pool rudely after 30 min.
Lucky i chrcked my bill on checkout they tried to charge me over 100 euro for charges that weren't even mine.
Not the best but not the worst just b cautious and dont expect the friendliness u should get from a hotel of this calibre.

Had an issue with large bug. Jr. Mngt dis what they could. When Sr. Mngt got involved it was lip service. Showed them a hole in the wall where there was sawdust that obviously was from bugs chewing thru. Asked them to have maintenance plug rhe hole. They answered yes but it didnt happen. They offered to move us amd said it was.the identical room. We went to view it but it was a down grade a few doors down the hall from our room. Didnt offer any type of refund for the downgrade so we declined. Didn't feel like the new room wouldn't have the same insect issue. Mngt said with construction on the road out front insects are moving around. So obviously I wasn't the 1st guest to have this problem.

Perfect location for access to La Rambla, the Gothic quarter and central Barcelona. Hotel smelt wonderful every time we stepped inside and was great to be welcomed with bottled water at check-in. Staff were friendly and we were able to check our bags in early, so we could start sightseeing straight away. Clean room, large bathroom/shower & a very comfortable bed. We were so close to local restaurants & cafes we didn't try the breakfast. There was a vegetarian place, 'Honest Greens', right on the corner which was a great place to start the day. The reception area was full of comfortable seating and there was a well-stocked bar for after dinner drinks.

This hotel saved my trip. Getting off my cruise going around Europe would have been hard and expensive with all my luggage. I inquired about since this was my last stop if we could leave some luggage to be stored until we returned. The answered yes without any issues. On our return rhe hotel was absolutely beautiful. So rich in color and decor. The staff was extremely pleasant. The food at breakfast was perfect. We ate dinner and it was very good. The location was the perfect spot.

Some of the front desk staff were dismissive and unhelpful. The lobby was over-scented with some piped in fragrance that was almost oppressive, headache-inducing, and overwhelming. The heavy fragrance was somewhat lighter in the elevators and thankfully, not piped into the individual rooms. Bar staff and doormen were good. Housekeeping staff was good. I would not stay here again despite the convenience of the location. That fragrance was over-the-top.

The location is great, right in the center of Larambla which has many stors and restaurants. The hotel decore is very nice, and has an overall good vibe. The room was clean, in good condition and spacious. They also have a high class spa.The staff was nice and accommodating and the breafast buffet was rich and tasty.

Amazing location, within walking distance of nearly everything. We rode Lime bikes to the beach... so easy with bike lanes everywhere. The room was gorgeous and spacious. Live music both outside and in the lobby was an unexpected joy. The rooftop area was deserted in early December but still lovely place to rest from jetlag while still soaking up some sun and ambiance. The pool was warm and relaxing. Definitley recommend for an off-season visit, for affordability lack of crowds and relaxed ambiance.

This is a lovely hotel with great common spaces, live music and snacks! There is a wonderful spa as well - just make a reservation - it fills up and they limit capacity. Our room was comfortable, well appointed and the complimentary bottle of water each day was useful.

I can’t say that I had a good night’s sleep at Hotel 1898. The check-in experience was disappointing. It was very slow, and the check-in assistant seemed to be in a bad mood—more like an immigration officer than hotel reception staff.

I was charged a €150 deposit, and when I asked why, I was told it was due to some American tourists overstaying their free spa time and not reporting it to the hotel. To avoid financial loss, the hotel decided to charge every guest a deposit at check-in. I felt this was unfair, as it was not my fault, yet I was still required to pay the deposit. Although the money will be returned at check-out, I was unhappy about being charged in the first place.

The hotel is in an excellent location and looks beautiful, but the building feels old. The windows do not appear to be double-glazed, and the city centre of Barcelona is extremely noisy throughout the night. I could hear everything from outside, which made it impossible to sleep properly. I had to wear my AirPods all night to block out the noise just to get some sleep.

Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. The least enjoyable part was the slow and unpleasant check-in, and based on my stay, I would not recommend this hotel.

Privacy and security concerns. Cleaning team had an access to my personal things and then shared with other details. I have found it accidentally when it was used to make some jokes and “fun” on me. They thought it was funny but I see a big security problems in a hotel. It also includes IT and other contractors. Client info isn’t protected but is a tool for a shady groups in a street

The highlight of the stay was the spa. The water was warm (30C), the steam room and sauna was clean and hot. It was intimate and numbers were limited. Just perfect to relax.
The breakfast and dinner were very good value and excellently produced.
It couldn't be in a better place.
