This hotel falls well short of a 5-star standard in its current condition and is in clear need of a full renovation. The lobby feels tired, with stained carpets, worn-out sofas and cushions, and visible wear throughout. The restaurant carpet is torn, and the rooms themselves have very basic, dated fit-outs.

Breakfast was another disappointment — easily the most basic we have experienced at a so-called 5-star property, with the exact same limited menu offered for five consecutive days.

Another major downside is the hotel’s port pickup service, priced from €160, while a standard taxi costs around €26 — an unjustifiable markup.

The location is the hotel’s strongest asset. Despite ongoing roadworks on La Rambla over the past two years, it still offers convenient access to hop-on hop-off buses, airport transfers, shopping areas, and many historical attractions within walking distance.

Overall, our experience was disappointing. At its current state, the hotel is not worth the price tag, and we would not return unless significant improvements are made.

Wonderful Stay at Le Méridien Barcelona

Our time at Le Méridien Barcelona was exceptional from start to finish. The hotel’s location right on Las Ramblas is perfect — close to the Gothic Quarter, shops, and restaurants, yet peaceful and elegant inside. The staff were consistently welcoming, attentive, and professional, making us feel truly cared for.

The room was modern, spotless, and comfortable, with thoughtful details and a great view of the city. Breakfast was generous and delicious, offering both international and local Catalan choices. We also appreciated the relaxing lounge and the stylish lobby bar — ideal spots to unwind after a day of exploring.

Overall, Le Méridien Barcelona exceeded expectations in every way. Highly recommended for anyone visiting this beautiful city — we’ll gladly return!

Our room did not face Rambla which was great for us because it was a quiet one. The heat broke in our room and they could not repair it. They did offer to change rooms but we declined. Location was good for easy access to historical labdmarks

The property is at a great location and the staff is polite, however, the facilities are deplorable, our room was very hot and even after repeated requests there was no assistance, instead they just apologise and say that the hotel is very old so they cannot control the heating system, we had to open the window to sleep and the experience was really bad as there were a lot of mosquitoes. I had 29 mosquito bites in one night. I would never go back there as we were up all night because of the heat and mosquitoes and could not enjoy my holiday. I would not recommend anyone stay there ever. We had to visit the Pharmacist and get medicine for the mosquito bits as the bites turned into wounds in no time by etching.

Poor Quality Establishment & NOT value for money!

Tired hotel, I was “upgraded” on check in, the room (newer room) was ok, but basic housekeeping poor, heating very warm, no AC, stiff and small towels, shower very hot or very cold, wall sockets and usb sockets not working. Had a coffee machine. Was moved to a new room for my remaining 2 nights as requested a room with facilities that worked given the in excess of £300 per night, more dated and smaller room, still poor housekeeping, lime scale build up, shower gel tray, falling off the wall, toilet so close to the wall that the toilet roll holder was in your leg and no coffee machine. The room that I moved from was also then given to another guest as they couldn’t fix the issues, so kindly made it another guests problem. Staff appeared to be trying to to be accommodating but in reality turning rooms without any compassion. Am trying to follow this up with Marriott directly but no response so far….

Central property in the HEART of the city with almost everything walkable from it. Clean with friendly staff. Breakfast add in option is a MUST with large variety if excellent food and omelet station. Expensive but the extra amenities such as bathrobes, complimentary 2 bottles of water per day, and accommodating staff make it worth it. Taxis waiting right outside in case you need to get around which makes it convenient.

Room sizes in Europe always seem a bit inadequate compared to the US but that’s just a continent thing.
If possible travelers should get a room away from La Ramblas and as high as possible. It gets quite noisy at night but that’s just the location - you should expect some of it. But the convenience of being there is great.
Hotel in general was fine. Breakfast was excellent. Staff was very helpful.
I would recommend it as long as you are comfortable with the above.

Good location, but other areas need improvement.

Good location in the bustling La Rambla and nearby are some very good restaurants off the beaten path and away from the overprice main strip. However, this hotel needs some improvements in areas that include (1) concierge and (2) front desk. Concierge was very helpful but for a hotel of this size, it's not acceptable that you only have one staff member at the desk while a line is growing and waiting for assistance that occasionally involves standing there for 20 minutes or more. That may be okay for a Holiday Inn, but not Le Meridien. Front Desk is hospitable but seemed a little disorganized when my room was not available at checkin. Nor was it available at 4pm, so we had to leave a phone number while we went out for the rest of our day.

Amazing hotel in the best location in Barcelona. Walking distance to everything you need and amazing service. Room size is generous with a lovely sitting area and bath. The staff was so welcoming and everything is so well appointed. Check in and checkout a breeze. The hotel staff even sent us a bottle of cava and strawberries to celebrate our honeymoon!

This is a great hotel, with excellent location on La Rambla and near Gothic Quarter. The room was comfortable, roomy and modern with uptodate bathroom. The only problem we had as figuring out how to make the lights work. Also it seemed like the air conditioning didn't work through the night, it seemed to get warm in the room around 2 am. Otherwise, great hotel. Super staff.

We have stayed here before. The last time the ceiling leaked dirty water in our suite, which they could not fix, eventually we got moved to another room, after serious complaints. The first round of repairs we had to sit and watch, missing dinner in our room because they did not want us to leave. We came back here because they tried to make it up to us. This time they went out of the way to make sure we knew we were not welcome. Room was not ready on time. Front desk staff were unfriendly and curt to us, but, overly nice to the people next to us! Literally in your face move! Upon check out they tried to charge us $385.00 for a 3 minute international phone call. The other two I made were both less then $10.00. I was told their system never recognized the hang up, so we had to be billed!!! Even when the front desk manager tried the number herself and the call took less then 3 minutes she still refused to modify the charge until I demanded and said I would fight it from my credit card! I have never received such horrid service from a Marriot company Hotel. In retrospect maybe it was because the room was for my partner and I and they preferred to assist the non LGBT community.

Everything about this hotel was top rate; location, condition, staff, etc. La Rambla and the gothic quarter were right outside the door and it was easy to run in and out as needed while exploring the gothic quarter. The only thing I didn't like is just a petty, personal preference... but I always prefer carpeted floors in hotel rooms.
