A beautiful classic old hotel on the waterfront. I was so surprised - and delighted - to be upgraded to a sea view room with a balcony, which I availed of, even though it was December. The bar and restaurant staff were so courteous. The room was gorgeous. It was all a perfect start to my holiday in Italy!

The staff barely speaks English so it was a little challenging. Also the reception desk asked me if I would like to leave a tip for the staff as an extra charge to me. I was surprised by this since gratuities and VAT taxes are usually included in Europe. It seems everyone is begging for tips and gratuities these days, I was not happy being put on the spot about tipping. This is not usual in Europe. There is a lot of confusion at this hotel with the staff as well as Trieste in general due to the language barrier.

The room was in good condition. The male staff member at the check in was not friendly at all. We were not offered any upgrades and had to ask for our bottle of wine which was not offered either . The location of the hotel is perfect, we walked from the train station when we arrived and also walked to restaurants and If there was one thing that disappointed me was the view from our window… the building across the street had the most dirty windows I ever seen LOL… from the birds sitting on it. Not the hotel’s fault but I wouldn’t get that room for the view. We gave a good laugh at it but I would check with the hotel if your trip is for a special occasion.

Hotel location was excellent. We had a suite with loads of space, very comfortable! Hotel is a Grand Dame from the past but location right on the Adriatic with beautiful views was outstanding. It has also been recently renovated so rooms and bathrooms are very comfortable. Our room could have had more accessible plugs for charging but we made it work. Staff was friendly and tried to be helpful. Breakfast was bountiful and served in a grand dining area with beautiful views of the Sea. We were very pleased to have stayed at the Savoia while visiting Trieste!

We were given an accessible room( did not ask or need it).
We found the bath tub / shower to be very off balance. The bottom of the tub had a big hump in the middle and you had to straddle it to stand. I almost fell.
The bed was very soft, both myself and my husband woke up with back aches. We also had to ask for body lotion as there was none in our room. Minor things I guess as the location was perfect especially if you are cruising as the port is right across the street.

The property is lovely but a little tired. The staff is professional but not especially friendly. The concierge told us we could get our VAT tax refund at the train station. When we got there they said they hadn’t had that service since pre-covid! For a king size room they provided one small water bottle per day. I had to call and request body lotion. Not a bad stay but not great.

We loved our stay here. Wonderful, friendly and efficient staff. All very friendly and helpful. We had a sea view room with a balcony and it was stunning in nearly every way. Comfortable, clean, large with a modern feel. The balcony was wonderful.
Just a few things in the room let it down - access to a bedside lamp and a socket on both sides on the bed for example. Not being able to control the side lights separately from the main light. Really small things, but it would have made the room perfect.

Luxury on the water

My mom and I stayed here for 3 days and it was absolutely wonderful! We got the deluxe room with a balcony and it ended up being two small balconies which we loved. The room looked out onto the water and it was breath taking! The room was large and clean and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was so kind and helpful and we just felt like we were staying in luxury. It’s a European hotel so some stuff is old but it is extremely clean and charming. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. Don’t hesitate. Book it!

This Hotel is right across from where you would get a ship’s departure and it’s very convenient. It is walking distance to many eateries and shopping from behind this hotel. Very walkable. We had a baloney which you could sit out on and it faced the Main Street so you could enjoy its beautiful streets and facing the ocean bay and mountains.
