This was a last minute booking as the hotel we were supposed to stay in had been booked for 2026 by mistake (by me!). The room was really cosy, and we were made to feel really welcome in the bar. The continental breakfast was lovely, and hot food was available to purchase if we wanted it. Would definitely stay here again.

Couldn't get tv to work because weak Internet coffee machine ok but a kettle for tea please. Had dinner first night not the best. Breakfast was included but only contintal which would have been ok if more choice no breads meats cheeses. Cereal only 3 choices 2 of which contained nuts so not great.

Avoid this establishment, not has advertised

When I turned up at the hotel the staff didn't know I was expected - the member of staff on shift had to call his boss to check. After been shown to the room I discovered that the heating wasn't working and the mobile heater was broken, the staff member however quickly got me a replacement which was most welcome since the room was very cold.

The room was basic, the mattress was too big for the bed base resulting in me nearly rolling off the top and the shower was dirty with a previous occupants hair on the walls.

After the shower I decides to do some work, there wasn't any signal in the room and the wifi didn't work- totally frustrating !!! At least I was looking forward to a nice cooked breakfast in the morning - which was arranged for 7.30am... with the staff members manager on the phone.

Next morning, at 7.40am the front and side door was locked, the lights were off - no one was home - I did call the number which was on a piece of paper attached to the inside window of the front door but there was no reply - the result of this was NO breakfast !! Ultimately I had paid for a service which I didn't receive!!

I feel totally frustrated and aggrieved, I will NEVER return to this establishment.

Strange night...

Room heated with a plug in electric heater... shower/loo room freezing and therefore uninviting.
Noisy heating exhaust pipe outside room went on and off constantly all night (half a minute between each firing). Irony that the central heating wasn't in the room.
I went down for breakfast but doors were all locked except for kitchen door... seened no one around. I left my key in the room (having prepaid) and went away.
Very strange visit! The TV was also a probkem...the wifi access or sky access didn't allow me to get channel 4 or Itv... disconcerting all round. Won't be going there ever again.

Awful stay and awful service!

I arrived at 20:30 to be told only Pizzas were available and then to be told that there was no dough, I asked if there was any food and got no answer. I asked again at my room and was told there was no chef on, I asked if just a sandwich or oven chips or something and was not answered again. I therefore or left right away to drive to the town and get food.
When I returned to the room I realised how different to the promo photos the room was! It also was freezing (8 degrees). There is no radiator in this room. I found a plug in heater in the wardrobe but this small unit was not enough to heat the room. This could have been plugged in before my arrival at very least!
The mattress was larger than the base which meant if you rolled over you fell out of bed. It also meant that there was no friction to hold the sheet on as you can see in my photo.
I was asked what time I would like breakfast, I agreed to their earilest time, 8am. When I walked into the pub at 8 I realised I was the only patron, so I have no idea why I was put in THAT room!
There is no breakfast buffet or menu. They make Full english or full english. However on that day they had no beans; I guess tinned baked beans must be hard to find or difficult to keep fresh....
The breakfast also took 25 minutes, why could this not have been pre prepared when it is the only option the offer AND I was the only patron AND they knew when I was coming....

The pub was closed on Sunday, no food or drink. Reception by phone. Disgusting and disappointed, nothing about this in advertisement or notification when booked! Found somewhere else to stay! Don’t go to This place.

I really want to speak higher of the establishment as the staff were so lovely but unfortunately there was a few things wrong. Firstly, there was over an hour wait for food. Ordinarily I wouldn't mind but the pub wasn't even busy at this time - some of the food was over cooked which therefore couldn't be eaten but this was rectified taking this off the bill. In the room the TV didn't work and the lamps didn't either so we were asleep by 9! The beds were comfortable and the shower pressure was great it's just a shame the rooms need some loving.

Room cold when arrived, toilet roll holder broken, tv only one channel (with bad reception) due to aerial broken in back tv, alarm going off all night from 9.30pm no one attended to sort out had hours sleep if that, breakfast poor bacon was deep fried went to return key at 10am premises completely shut up had to leave key with a labourer painting one of the rooms!! Room very over priced for £70.

Traditional pub, 30min walk up hill from the train station or £5-7 taxi. Large room with heating. Linen and towels could do with replacing as they had holes and where tatty. But overall pleasant stay.

The room was a bit dated (Room 3) Plus the toilet seat was hanging off on our arrival which was infact broken. So that was a little unsteady whilst trying your best to stay balanced. Further, the Chiller/air conditioning unit for the cellar or kitchen was left on all night and this constantly tripped in and out through the night and was quite noisy. So our nights sleep was somewhat disturbed.
A great breakfast the next morning made up for the conditions although I felt the room, even with the breakfast was somewhat over-priced.

A good location from the town, the room we stayed in was very basic, bed lamps didn't work, thread bare carpet, fitting fell of door handle, toilet roll holder fell to pieces, hospitality tray could of been better, extension socket didn't charge my phone, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was ok but not enough and not enough choice, toilet hand dryer downstairs dident work and the pub back door was wedged open all night, very bad security, and no ashtrays out side for smokers in pub garden or front, whole building inside needs, restoration, not worth the £98 price of one night stay, would warrant £50 max

Small pub B&B in quiet village area. Room was standard double with ensute, bathroom clean but a little outdated. It was very quiet overnight. Information in the room would have been helpful breakfast times and current taxi firm numbers. We Googlesd these but network signal was not great in this area. 3 of the lights in the room did not work. I would not describe this as a hotel , more a B&Band seemed expensive at £98 per night considering the above.

There was plenty of parking and the staff were friendly and helpful, the pub was closed up when we arrived at 2.30 pm on a Saturday. Checking is normally pm and we had rung ahead to advise we needed to check in earlier which was happily accommodated.

Breakfast was really nice and the interior of the pub itself was really nicely done.

I would not recommend

Check in was no existent - I walked into the pub, gave them my name and I was given the property. No checks were made.

The room's windows were painted shut, the mugs for coffee were dirty, the walls were dirty, the bed wasn't made well, the mattress was old you could feel every spring in it.

We didn't even stay for breakfast and no attempt to interact with us was made.

We paid £99 to stay here, I don't think I would pay more than £30 for it.

Quite pricey for what you get. Room was very tired and not clean in places eg cobwebs on walls and ceilings. Bed was very old and not that comfortable. Loud humming in room through wall throughout the night. Shower held together by tatty tape. The whole place needs investment to bring it up to standard.

A traveler's true respite

My wife and I were truly delighted with out experience at the Cricketers Inn, Steep, Petersfield. We found it warm and inviting. Our bedroom was spacious and the beds comfortable. We enjoyed a perfectly cooked evening meal soon after our arrival. Our breakfast the following morning was excellent too. At an economic price too,we can fully recommend it.

Excellent value and a lovey place to stay

We wanted rooms for the night after a concert in Petersfield and The Cricketers was perfect - spacious comfortable rooms, spotlessly clean, and very quiet. Delicious breakfast. The choice online seemed to be this or a chain hotel that was £20 more not including breakfast - very glad we chose The Cricketers.

The room was in need of a GOOD clean. Dusty cobwebs in the bathroom. Dirty bathroom mirror. The shower was good but was not adjustable because it had been taped on a low position. Floor unclean.

Bedroom floor was also in need of a hoover. There was a very dirty sock that was left from the previous occupants or even before them. On a good note, bed linen was clean and pillows and bed were comfortable. The worst problem of the room was the constant noise of the heating system. (We presume). This noise was clonking, rattling, banging and continued all through the night. This is why we only managed to get about two hours sleep.

Breakfast was plentiful and good, with a good choice of cereal and juice before being served up a full English breakfast with tea and coffee and toast.

We thought that the price was way to high for the state of the accommodation, we expected better and would like to be reimbursed for the terrible night as the cost did not represent the expectations.

Good for what I needed, a convenient overnight stay. Room overly hot, couldn't find a way to turn the heat down. Entrance directly off the car park / street and I wasn't convinced about the security of the door lock. Breakfast in the bar was the high point, and excellent location for my needs.

Mixed experience!

We arrived 30 minutes after check in time to find no one around to let us in. It took 25 minutes for someone to arrive despite calls to the numbers listed on the door. The room was bright and a good size. Excellent bed and nicely furnished. However, some large cobwebs near the window and the shower looked a bit tired. A noisy fan or extractor that seemed to be associated with the kitchen just below the window ran intermittently and disturbed my sleep at times. Good breakfast choice and pleasant dining area but the man in charge needed some more training to give a better experience.

Lovely pub seriously let down by the room.

Lovely looking pub, totally let down by the room. Horrible carpet looked extremely tired and need a hoover. The bed springs were showing through all over the soft and saggy mattress. The bathroom, particularly the shower was covered in pink and black mould. The shower head was held on by sticky tape. I can only hope that the other rooms were better and mine was the last to be given an overhaul.

Having stayed before we knew what to expect and we were not disappointed, Staff are friendly and accommodating.
Room was fairly basic but clean and well kept allowing for a pleasant stay and a good nights sleep
Food was excellent and the atmosphere in the bar makes for a very friendly evening.

The Edward Thomas walk

We stayed there because it was close to where Edward Thomas had lived. My wife is a poet, and she wanted to do the 4 mile Edward Thomas walk at Steep just outside Petersfield. When we arrived the premises were shut, we knocked on the front door and the chef came and gave us a key to our room, and showed us where it was. The room was clean and adequate, however the television did not work. When we asked we were told it was to do with the splitting of the signal.
The breakfast was fine and so were some of the evening meals. The chef had a strange way of presenting some of the meals on a piece of wood, so on our last night I insisted it was on a plate. The staff were good and helpful.

A nice pub, with attached rooms upstairs. Nice food. Room was rather bland, out dated TV and a rediculously small shower cubicle that had the door removed and replaced with a curtain - presunably so that you had elbow room.

Great quiet, rural location with superb access to Petersfield for business.

Not worth it.

In much need of some tlc. It has little to recommend it and certainly would not choose to return to it. To start with had to phone a number stuck to the door to get in, then they could not find the room key when checking in
At breakfast the service was laughable and no real choice offered. Did not try the food in the evening so could not comment on this but if the breakfast was anything to go by.

Our second visit within 2 years

On arrival we were handed our keys and asked what time we would like breakfast, between 8.00am and 10.00am. We opted for 9.00am. The downstairs lobby of the accommodation lobby looked very tired, with worn and ripped carpet, and I think re-decoration is overdue! We were unable to get a picture on the TV in our room - no channel was available, and although we reported this when we went out for the evening, on our return nothing had changed.

When we went down for breakfast at 9.00am the greeting we received was grumpy, and a complaint made that all the guests had come to breakfast at once. There was no breakfast menu, and we were asked whether we wanted a full English breakfast - nothing else was offered. When my wife asked whether she could have porridge - that was not well received, and indeed she was then brought a full English breakfast, with mine. A porridge was produced later, and her cooked meal given to another guest, whose partner had his later. Although we were asked if we'd like anything else - no choice was offered. I do think the available options should be listed, eg Cereal, fruit, juices, bread rolls/toast, ham, cheese, marmalade/jam etc. In most establishments a continental option is usually out on display.

I am afraid we will not be visiting again. For £98 I think better service is expected!
