This property is very expensive and definitely NOT worth the money. Staff unhelpful and dismissive. No transport provided to the pool and lake so impossible for anyone with limited hiking ability up and down the many flights of stairs to reach the facilities. The restaurant was expensive with a very limited menu and no bistro or cheaper options to choose from. Without transport you would be trapped here. The only positive was the maître dit in the restaurant who did try to be helpful. The only one who was. Would never use this hotel again.

Une parenthèse de charme et de déconnexion

Un hôtel plein de charme, idéal pour une escapade loin de l’agitation urbaine et parfait pour une véritable déconnexion. La chambre avec vue sur le lac transforme totalement l’expérience (je la recommande vivement). Le spa est excellent, avec une particularité : il faut descendre à pied depuis l’hôtel pour y accéder, ce qui ajoute une touche d’originalité. Le petit-déjeuner est satisfaisant et bien fourni. Mention spéciale au personnel, attentionné et chaleureux, qui contribue grandement à rendre le séjour encore plus agréable.
Seul petit bémol : la chambre mériterait un léger rafraîchissement.

The security was very good, too good in fact that we had to wait 10min before the staff could get a response from the desk to open the gate. We rented bikes and the only way we got back in was because someone was leaving t the time. The room was fine, comfortable bed, excellent bath tub. Wish it had a microwave but everything else was there. Refrigerator was stocked with drinks but we didn't take any because who knows how much they might have charged. $35 euro per person is a pretty ridiculous fee for breakfast, especially for us who just have coffee and something small.

Booked this hotel and found out that I had an insect scabies rash and emailed the property requesting a refund or a change of dates so that I would not bring insects to the their hotel. I sent a picture of the rash all over my legs.
They said no we have a no cancel policy. And no changes. So they just said ok to come. This is highly contagious. Very disappointed in their lack of understanding and willingness to allow their hotel to become infested.

If you are looking to spend a quiet, relaxing holiday, this is the spot. The views and gardens are spectacular. The pool has a gorgeous view of the lake. Breakfast had good selection. And the staff was wonderful, looking over every single detail. As a solo traveler this was the perfect spot.

Second time I stay at this property. Shocked by the low level of service overall. The property is gorgeous, but the experience is diminished by the lack of professionalism of the staff. EXTREMELY slow service, waited 30 min for a breakfast item (they just forgot to update us they just didn’t have it), mixed a regular milk order with a soy milk order (for somebody allergic, not a good idea), and I can go on and on.
Also; the pool was under renovation, and they just hid that line very well on Expedia so you really can’t see it when booking. Too bad; it could be a top hotel, it’s not because of the staff.

Stunning Palace

Undoubtedly the best hotel on Lake Annecy, the staff living up to the expectations of a 5 star hotel - The hotel itself is stunning and views of the lake from the front of the hotel are outstanding. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel and found all a delight, quality ingredients, beautifully presented and exceptional flavours.
On a more practical note, we drove up to the front of the hotel to unload and then parked our car in the free outdoor space a couple of minutes walk down from the hotel. Fabulous stay

My worse hotel in years

I spend my life in five star hotels as I must constantly travel to visit my clients all over the world and sometimes for pleasure. But this hotel is the worse I have seen in my last 20 years. Have you ever heard of a five star with no restaurant, yes! They decided to close the restaurant at night without telling anyone. Every guest (I heard it was almost full) complained as the first restaurant outside the hotel is about 7kms out. Then we asked for room service (supposably 24/7 available) and we were told that no one was in the kitchen and we had to wait until 7pm (not good with a baby). Then we were forced to eat at the bar with a barman on its own with dirty floor and tables in between staff constantly moving furniture left over from lunch (in the bar). In brief, do not trust the pictures, do not trust the website, the hotel is falling a part and the staff has no idea of what they are doing. The rooms were ridiculously small with an old smell. They should close it down and start from scratch. Shame because the view and location is great but you better going there for a drive than staying. I recommend the hotel owner to take a proper management group like Fairmont, Hilton, Intercontinental, Hyatt. But please do not try to do it yourself as you obviously can't. See the picture of the intimate bar. Total disaster.

Beautiful location, fabulous views. Stayed in a suite which was huge and decorated to a very high standard. The bed was extremely comfortable with quality linens. The children’s sofa bed was quite hard, but plenty big enough for 2 people. The restaurant served exceptional food but you paid for it! Communal areas well decorated alert from reception which looked a bit tired. Overall lovely hotel.

A stunning setting

Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting right on the lake . We had a lake view room with balcony. Comfortable bed, very powerful shower and a dressing room. We made use of the fabulous indoor pool and jacuzzi. The dinner was excellent and reasonably priced. The only issue we had was getting into the hotel grounds. The barrier was down and no one to let us in. We had to wait for some one to drive out before we could get in.

The view was amazing, since I paid a hefty extra sum for a lakeside room. The room was nothing special: a decent size but definitely dated, and no A/C. Felt like it should have been outfitted better for the amount I paid. The staff was generally very accommodating, although we did ask for a plate and knife that never came, even after a second call. The pool and lakeside lounge areas were nice, but it's a lot of outdoor stairs to get there (I didn't mind this, but other people might). Check-in and check-out were easy, and the restaurant was good.

The hotel situated in the place location around the lake. Driving to Annecy is advised so you can enjoy the surroundings in depth. Fantastic view and facilities. Complementary mini bar (just beverages) was a nice touch.

The food quality of the beach restaurant and the breakfast can be improved.

Lodging and Dinner at a Genuine Palace!

The restaurant at the hotel provided the finest gourmet food we enjoyed of all the places at ate. The food was incredible and the service was outstanding. The views of the lake from our table were amazing! It was one of the best dinner experiences we've ever had! I would strongly recommend this hotel and restaurant without hesitation. Over rated hotel with little charm. Environs are great but the bedrooms are very mediocre. Tatty furniture, no artwork, no air-conditioning, no bedhead and not even a clock! The noise from the kitchens below made sleep difficult. Spent half the week getting away from wedding parties which meant space to sit by the lake was restricted. Would not bother staying here again - it looks better from a distance!

We were very disappointed when we arrived, but after two days it was hard to leave. It is an old hotel in a wonderful location. There were very few staff and they were only somewhat helpful. The breakfasts were good but the view from the terrace was magnificent. The casual restaurant was better than expected. The rooms were dingy but the bathrooms were more than adequate. There is no air conditioning, but we were comfortable at night with the windows open. For a modest investment, this hotel could be delux.

Beautiful views of the Lake

Staying at the Palace really started our European vacation off right. Less expensive than most of the Geneva hotel options and more beautiful. Close to the busy-ness and life of Annecy, but tucked away in a village where the locals stay out and picnic with each other till late in the evening. Our views of the entire northern end of the lake were charming to wake up to in the morning and say good-night to in the evening. We couldn't stop taking pictures!

Everyone at the hotel was very helpful, especially Anton in Reception. The grounds were in pristine condition. The staff in the restaurant at breakfast and dinner did whatever they could to please us: Pasquale at dinner and the young woman who served at breakfast were especially memorable. We were surprised and delighted with our stay at the Palace. The one thing they could not control was the weather. It was rainy three of the four days we were there but the sunset at dinner our first night was so spectacular that it made up for the other three.

Save the money. Go somewhere else...anywhere else!

We splurged on this place and it was a major disappointment, especially since it was for our anniversary. The place looks amazing. The view, second to none. The rooms are nicely decorated. We know because we got to see 2 of them. The heat didn't work in the first one, plus I ran out of hot water. We stayed one night there before I couldn't handle the cold any more and called the front desk. To their credit, they sent someone immediately to look at it. We were told it didn't work and were moved. The second room wasn't any better. I again called the front desk and they offered to bring us a blanket. They didn't apologize or offer us anything (a blanket, really? it was freezing inside and out). We looked under the bed of the second room, making sure we didn't forget anything, and found thing left by previous guests (ugh!). I would have been more comfortable in a hostel.

Fantastic Location, Very Romantic

This is a very romantic place. We spent 2 nights and loved it. It is located right on the lake as shown on the picture. Our only complaint is that we got a lake view room and the view was limited to a small door. We were expecting a balcony but it wasn't, it was just a very narrow door. We paid a premium for that and it was a little disappointing. The hotel room itself was nothing special, it was the typical small, tight European type of room. If it were not on the lake, it would be just a regular room and nothing special. However, the location is magnificent and made up for the deficit. The breakfast is very pricey (18 Euros or about $20). So you are definitely paying for the ambiance since the restaurant is nicely located overlooking the lake (with large open windows all around). The parking is onsite and that was included. You should park on curve in front of the hotel to unload the luggage and then go and park since the park could be a hike, at the base of the hotel. We did the cruise tour from Annecy and got to see the hotel from the water, which was an amazing view.

Just an incredible view from our room over Lac d'Annecy. Hotel personnel was very friendly, recommended and helped us with dinner reservations at local restaurants. Room carpets are a little old but room was very clean and surprisingly large for a French hotel. The Park around the hotel (part of the hotel) was such an unexpected bonus. Just a wonderful stay overall

Also The electricity went out in our room in the middle the night and the problem was not addressed in a timely manner. The plugs were difficult to attach our adapters to and some never did work. The breakfast buffet was way too expensive so we opted not to use it.

Tired tradiotional, started well and went downhill

On arrival,nobody to help with our cases,being disabled after announcing ourselves at the security barrier we expected it.Room tiny even though expensive. Room partly refurbed but 2singles pushed together made the room overwhelmed bythe bed. Very Tired furniture scratched.Concierge took us to the spa in a buggy as cannot walk far. Very helpful. Great pool, but jaccuzzi too chlorinated.No drinks/café as closed down by the lake and spa. Breakfast from7.00-10.00,arrived9.10 staff already clearing away and we had to continually ask for items.Lack of selection& food had been'messed' about with.It was so obvious they did not want us there,& an terrible overpriced experience.Didn't dine in the only restaurant open as sveggie nothing on the menu for us.So ate out.Came back at9.00no power. My wife phoned, no maintenance staff. In a huge hotel this is inexcusable. This is hotel being run on lowest staff/guest ratio I have ever experienced. Front 'manager', was in a right tizz as to what to do.Moved to another room We had to ask for a torch as very dark in the room.Got to a room even more tired, and full of flies !! upwards of ten. Phoned again to be told no other rooms available, my wife had to demand another room.Finally after1-1/2hrs ended up in an room again tired. These experiences made this a really bad stay.At check out breakfast was taken off! Not impressed.Apart from the spa/pool this hotel needs more staff, better food&understanding/training in customer issues which arise.

A great stay in an impressively located hotel. The view was incredible. The food interesting (dinner tending to fusioned Chinese). Wonderful staff. The room although large, was sparsely furnished in poor quality, almost abused furniture in a poor style. This relates to it being a beach holiday environment I suppose. Good bed and bathroom though. No lift to private garage so a trek up and down stairs. Impressed to some extent but not by the lack of value for money.

Fantastic location but hotel needs an overhaul

Fantastic location and exterior of the hotel superb but inside, the hotel is in need of a serious overhaul, tired and shabby. Booked last minute and arrived for our one night stay to be greeted by unbelievably loud music. Turned out there was a private event which we weren't advised about so we couldn't enjoy the views from the bar, gardens and restaurant as they were shut. Very few options open on a Sunday evening in the village although we managed to find a great place thankfully. Event then finished at 8 but staff carried on tidying up outside our window until after midnight. A real shame as we could have overlooked the shabbiness of the hotel if we had been able to enjoy the location etc. We explained our disappointment the next day to Baghdad at reception. The service and care that he gave redeemed the hotel and we ended up feeling happier about our stay due to him. A great staff member. Please just give the hotel the love and care it so desperately needs in order to make it into a place worthy of its location and Palace name .

This near perfect hotel experience was spoilt by a lack of service focused on the customers' needs. From the lack of offers to help with luggage, through the need to ask for all passwords to the lack of drinks available in the cocktail bar, the whoe experience was disappointing. Because it was raining we didn't want to use the open air lakeside bar but we're refused a wine list and most cocktails in the cocktail bar. Sad. A fabulous setting and hotel needs service to match I'm afraid.

We were not disappointed when we arrived at Palace de Menthon! Our room was rather small (we were not able to designate two beds on the website) so when we requested it at check-in there was not much available but the staff kindly found a double room for us. The outside restaurant was very nice, great food and wine, beautiful view of the lake. We were within walking distance to the small village of St. Bernard de Menthon, which was nice. The only disappointment (and this isn't the hotel's fault) was there was not any public transit (boats or vans) between the villages along the lake and Annecy. The roads being so busy and narrow we didn't want to drive but would like to have been able to venture into Annecy for a few hours. Otherwise, our stay was exceptional!

Stunning lakeside views from our room. Fantastic staff. Unfortunately it wasn't air conditioned so can be a challenge in hot weather. Restaurant downstairs on the lake had great food & the staff were super efficient & very friendly & made it easy to converse in broken French & English.

Great setting and lake views

This hotel exceeded our expectations, especially in regards to location, there was no part of the lake that we saw where we would have preferred to be. Menthon is colourful and attractive, retaining evening sun until it disappears over the mountains opposite. We economised by requesting garden view rooms, but the view from the front bedrooms is magnificent and is worth an extra spend. Even so, we had a view to the side and up to the mountain peaks with which we were well satisfied. The rooms were spacious, with a separate area for wardrobe and safe, plenty of storage space, and the bed was comfortable with a spotlessly clean duvet. The continental breakfast provided everything we needed, with beautiful fruit salad selection, various breads and teas/coffees. Restaurant staff could have been more welcoming, but possibly their grasp of English language was not up to it - my French certainly wasn't! Reception staff were very helpful, giving details of boats and advice on the area. Reception area at first impressions looked sparse, but perhaps it is appropriate for the type of building. We will certainly hope to return, the view from the hotel is magical, and the grounds are attractive with steps and paths through shrubs and borders. Unloading/loading the car can be done without negotiating any steps, taking the lift from the floor beneath reception, which avoided any heavy lifting. Altogether a very memorable experience.

Fantastic views

This is an amazing place to stay, especially if the weather is good because the views and contrasting colours of the lake and surrounding area of Menthon are beautiful. The hotel's position high up gives panoramic views. All aspects of this hotel were well up to expectations, although we economised with a garden view room and in hindsight a lake view room would have been worth the extra. Breakfast was excellent, and the room was comfortable, quality bathroom fittings and a superb shower. We hope to return!

We have stayed just one night on our way to the Alps, but can recommend this hotel - perfect location, amazing view to the lake Annecy and the mountains and Chateau St. Bernard...it all look like from a fairytale.

Spoilt by the noise at night

Would have rated higher apart from noise levels at night. As no A/C necessary to have window open at night( fair enough) BUT the staff are back and forth to the main entrance using golf carts on a gravel drive which causes constant disturbance. Our room was just above the entrance,impossible to sleep until 1p.m. Spoilt an otherwise pleasant stay.
The staff at breakfast need to ensure that the supply of eggs, croissants etc. are kept up- not leave it until everything is empty!

Grand setting but not a Hotel for a long stay.

The benefit of a fabulous setting and views is offset by average to poor service and average food. Still preferable to downown Annecy though and easy, secure parking.

A great hotel spoilt by a poor breakfast

Lake view rooms which are above or close to Reception should be avoided as you will be disturbed by late arrivals/departures. The restaurant was fine for the dinner with good food and views but breakfast was no better than Hotel Ibis 20years ago, at best very ordinary and not half as good as the Novotel in Tinqueux,Reims. Would stay there again as views and general environs are the best in Annecy and can put up with a poor breakfast occasionally.

Palace de Menthon -

We stayed in various hotels around and in Annecy during our holiday and this was our absolute favourite! Such a wonderful setting! The staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was large and comfortable with beautiful views of the lake. We dined in the hotel dining room and it was simply superb - marvellous food and fabulous service. We wished we had stayed there earlier in our holiday as we would have stayed there longer.

Palace de Menthon - beautiful setting & good hotel

Most rooms are at the front with beautiful lake views in this picture perfect hotel. Our room (207) was on the 2nd floor with a balcony had a lovely bathroom with over bath shower, hot water was excellent. The bed was very a comfortable double bed with nice white cotton sheets/duvet and good pillows (not always the case in France). We had a desk & chair as well as armchair with tv. There was a walk in wardrobe with fridge (soft drinks are complimentary). There is also a seperate toilet. The room as a bit tired at the edges but the view just eclipses everything else. The staff were all very friendly and helpful given we have virtually no french. Expensive breakfast at 15 euros each but it was nice: fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, yogurt, various croissants, boiled eggs, bagettes, jam, honey - help yourself and machine for coffee. We did not use the pool but it looked good. The bar is nice and has a lovely balcony overlooking the grounds and lake. The grounds are amazing with sweeping staircases up to the entrance. Private front to the lake and a bandstand in the grounds from which you can get straight into the lake to swim.

There is a restaurant inside the hotel which we did not use and a restaurant in the grounds inside a large marquee fitted out as a bedoin tent all red and gold with sofas etc. The food there was very good and we felt reasonably priced at 40 euros for 3 courses (July 2011). We were in the hotel for 2 nights and ate in this restaurant both nights although we could easily have gone to other restaurants.

We loved the hotel and would certainly go again, subject to the cost, which for us was a luxury 2 nights during a 17 night holiday at more modest accomodation.
