The room was cold because the radiator wasn't working. The staff tried to fix it but eventually had to get a plumber. I didn't feel the staff were very apologetic and although we had originally intended to have dinner at the hotel we left them in the room and went to another restaurant do

Room was clean but bed really hard. So bad I didn’t sleep all night. I’d suggest softer mattresses or a deep mattress topper. Biscuits in my room were crushed to crumbs too. Staff were faultless and food exceptional however the noise from their current building works was unacceptable. I was woken at 8am to a crane outside my window, workmen stomping around outside my room and unfinished decor and a lift stiff covered in plastic wrapping. I’d suggest not accepting guests until you have completed your works.

Stonecross is a lovely old manor house that has been well restored. Quite often these old buildings fall into disrepair because of cost, but my wife and I felt it was really well presented. Stonecross is located close to the M6 but a short drive from The Yorkshire Dales or Lakes. The lobby is spacious and classy feeling with the tickle of piano music in the background. There is parking for around 10 cars with EV charging for three or four. The charging is provided externally by enozzle. 32 rooms are available but the place was quiet. The standard room was bright clean and comfortable with bath and shower. The food is excellent. There is a small but well designed menu for evening meal and drinks are not overpriced. Two alcoholic drinks cost is £12. We had a lovely stay for our anniversary and i would strongly recommend.

We arrived at a lovely stone manor with parking onsite walked into reception which was again very elegant we were given our key and told it was on the first floor we left reception via a door to the lift and everything changed the lift was half finished with boarding round it and tape peeling off we arrived at the first floor and we were met with large bags all over and builders and building materials every where they were sawing and hammering the smell of glue and adhesives was pungent

The service and staff were lovely and friendly. The stairwell and corridors were dated but assuming they’re updating the hotel as the pool was out of action..this was not mentioned when booking via website. The rooms were comfortable but hot, needed the window open but noisy on the road. Great position to the centre and great parking.

Hotel was going through a renovation when we arrived which we weren’t aware of prior to arriving. Stairs full of painting accessories, spa closed.
The room
Was small with an angled roof, small double bed. The bathroom was really nice and modern, can’t fault the cleanliness.
Staff were really pleasant but difficult to get hold of. No way of telling them you were at the desk and we stood for ages trying to get a drink even though we were the only ones in the bar. Breakfast was disappointing as was mainly fried.
Bar area modern and welcoming. A bit of a mixed review tbh! The pub down the road was great (Romneys)

There is extensive refurbishment happening which meant that there were no spa, pool, sauna facilities as advertised. There were only a few tired rooms in operation whilst the rest were being updated, but it is a building site and not the 4 star luxury we were expecting..... although it came with the same cost! For the price paid, it was disappointing, in fact, extortionate. I appreciate things need updating, but it would have been nice to know before we booked. I also understand the Stonecross will probably blame external sites for this, but unfortunately, the buck stops with you Stonecross. The staff were very friendly in difficult circumstances and I don't blame them in the slightest. But, I would not pay £160 per room per night PLUS breakfast, it wasn't worth it.
The location was good and the restaurant served nice meals.

Cosy for a weekend break

A lovely hotel for a weekend but shame the SPA was under renovation. Was a cosy hotel & comfortable. But rooms need an update. Our shower head kept dripping, which was annoying. The reception/bar area was cosy. Didnt have breakfast, but looked peaceful. Car par was small so my friend struggled a bit.

The hotel was going through an extension and refurbishment when we visited. The pool and spa facilities were also closed.

The corridors to the rooms were dimly lit and smelt quite stale.

The downstairs was quite nice and modern but the room we had was in a desperate need of updating. One wall looked as if someone had tested different paint pots on it. Painted woodwork was dirty, chipped etc.

The tiny TV had about 6 stations which were impossible to watch as there was aerial problems. The curtains barely covered the actual window when pulled.

The bathroom looked clean but there was nowhere to put out toiletry bags. The shower squirted water everywhere from its connection at the top, and the toilet bowl definited needed a deep clean!

On a positive note, the staff were very pleasant and friendly and the cooked breakfast was great.

We really enjoyed our 3 nights here, staff was lovely, convenient location, breakfast was excellent, nice having waters, teas, coffee, coca & cookies in the room.
For a driving trip, really liked the location. Good parking, easy access to best roads for exploring the Lake District.
Bathroom has a deep soaker tub/shower: lovely on a hiking trip!
Excellent cook to order breakfast in a nice sunny room and comfortable lounge for bar drinks.
The quibbles: bed small for a couple (N Am expect a Queen or King), the comforter also small for a couple: if one turned over, we had to readjust it so both were still covered.
Top floor roos have a sloping wall so my 6'3\" husband had to sleep on the far side of that (not our usual habit.)
On checking in & seeing the room asked if there were any alternatives but told nothing else available (odd since the hotel didn't seem busy.)
Pity because so much else was excellent but ultimately a good night's sleep is always the #1 thing about a hotel!

We recently booked a night at Stonecross Manor as part of our ten year anniversary celebrations planning to enjoy the spa facilities. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we were informed that the pool and spa were unavailable due to renovations. At the time of booking we were not informed that this would be the case and Hotels.com did not highlight that any renovations were taking place.
Our room was spacious and we enjoyed how the hotel is supporting local businesses through the handmade toiletries. However, the walls were covered in marks, the carpet was dotted with coffee stains and most disappointing of all was the fact that we discovered in the morning that the window frame and net curtain were absolutely covered in black mould.
After an evening out, we arrived back at the hotel to find that the outer door was firmly closed and we could not alert any night staff via the intercom or by ringing the hotel. We were left wondering what to do for around twenty minutes before completing a circuit of the building in complete darkness and discovering the outside door of the kitchen. Luckily a member of staff was in there at the time and we finally gained access to the hotel.
Staff were sympathetic during checkout but no offer of discount or compensation was made. Given the rather hefty price tag of a single night and the lack of amenities, together with the distinct lack of cleanliness of the room, we cannot recommend this hotel and will not be returning.

Very disappointing.
Booked twin room as I was travelling with my 15 year old son. On line room looked spacious enough for us to have some privacy.
On arrival, after driving for 5 hours, checked in. Went to room. Double bed. My son was horrified, not wanting to sleep with his 60yr old mother. Returned to front desk, was told that I had made the mistake when I booked. I had the booking on phone confirming the twin. I asked if there was a twin available. Was told there wasn't, but that my son and I could top to toe in the double bed!Neither of us slept well.
In the morning I spoke to another member of staff regarding the room. Was told nothing could be done and that I would have to sort it out with booking agent, as it had nothing to do with the hotel. Attitude of staff member was short and dismissive. We left without eating breakfast.

Very friendly staff and the hotel had a pool and sauna. The pool was being used at the time we were there as a training venue for children and we just used the sauna and jacuzzi. The room was very clean with lovely fresh towels with tea coffee making equipment. Nice hotel within close proximity to Kendal town centre only a few miles. Access to main routes to all lake district and motorway network.
Hotel nice but needs the added wow.
Needs a good clean lots of dust and cobwebs around.
Staff polite and friendly, breakfast good and good choice.
Lounge area dull for sitting having a drink and continuous awful music.
List of of action and could cause mobility issues to higher floors.
Electric car charger bay not well sign posted and couple of times found non electric car parked in bay, not helpful if needed to charge.
Outside area needs a tidy up.
Rooms incredibly hot through the night, radiators not on and window open.
Overall good for what we needed but not potential return.

Nice premesis but shower did not work properly and was far too hot on the room. Far from perfect but was OK. Breakfast in the morning was utterly garbage. My other half is a vegetarian who does not like mushrooms so the kitchen thought it was acceptable to serve a rammakin of beans, 2 veggie sausages and a single hash brown for a veggie breakfast. Staff were nice enough and the bar and everyrhing was fine.

Our stay was for one night to break up our journey to Scotland. Stonecross Manor suited our needs perfectly, staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is quite compact and nice and quiet, our children enjoyed the pool which was one of the reasons for booking. I thought the food was a little expensive so we ended up eating out. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Stonecross Manor.

The condition of the entrance to the hotel is dirty and overrun with cobwebs, the decor of the hallways are really run down and we didn’t make use of any of the other facilities.

The bedroom was large and looked fine on the first look, but very quickly you started to notice the huge amount of mould on the walls and round the windows, and paint peeling from the walls. There was lots of dust round the headboard too. The bathroom was clean but had mould round the shower and the grout on all the tiles was either missing or dirty too.

Thankfully the bed linen was clean but I was very grateful it was only one night I was staying.

I didn’t bother raising this with the receptionist as I guessed that this was going to be the standard of rooms across the hotel and didn’t want to move rooms unnecessarily.

The bar is also a rip off, with a large Diet Coke and a large white wine was about seventeen quid.

I’d avoid this place and try somewhere else in Kendal.

The hotel was very nice. They only problems were – like facilities for disabled people In-The spa changing rooms. I am disabled and there were no chairs in the changing rooms.. Unfortunately, there was no hot water in our Bathroom. This was reported and they tried to correct the problem but were unable to provide any hot water during our stay.. The position of the hotel was quite good, but a car was needed to go into Kendall. We absolutely loved Windermere. And we would go again, but next time we would get a hotel nearer to the facilities.

Great Overall Stay

Overall a very good and comfortable hotel to act as a base to explore the beautiful Lake District. We dined in the restaurant once and had mixed opinions over the quality of our meal. The spa area despite being refurbished needs a little attention including fixing a broken jacuzzi feature and also adjusting the steam room to actually produce some steam. These little things reflect our 4 star review (rather than full 5).
The staff were amazing, very helpful and professional but also friendly and good sense of humour. Room size excellent and certainly comfortable for a 3 night stay (and even longer potentially). Some attention needed in the room re small decorative/cosmetic issues. Did not affect our stay though. However to be a 5 star review the hotel would need to address these.

Lovely two night stay

Really lovely staff from check in and in the bar restaurant, room a little warm heated radiator in the bathroom red hot and not able to turn off or down so bathroom really warm, , net curtain in bed room needs replacing as ripped, but didn't stop us from enjoying a lovely stay , comfy bed, and will definitely stay again

This is the second time we have stayed at this property in 2 months. We cannot fault the hotel. Very clean and modern and the facilities are great (bar, restaurant, pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room). Staff are friendly and helpful. 20 minute stroll into Kendal. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
