Arrived just as they were about to close the kitchen for the evening which was unfortunate (victim of circumstance), so be aware of that, however a recommended local pub was a very good alternative. Didn't have breakfast booked due to time constraints

Fantastic little stay with a lot of facilities below with pub, meeting rooms etc. However very disappointed the WiFi didn't reach the rooms, I was there for work and I needed it. I had to drive to Tamworth to get a strong 5g reception to tether from my mobile. That was a massive frustration.

The room was freezing when we entered the room but soon warmed up when we closed the window and put the radiator on. The bed was comfortable with good quality linen. Staff on reception especially Nathan was very helpful. I didn't like it that housekeeping was banging on the door at 9.40am when I was getting dressed. They should have waited till 10am when we would have vacated the hotel!

The bathroom was smaller than expected and the shower temperatures were chaotic. Despite this, the hotel is above the average hotel with lots of space in the general and function rooms, and the menu is excellent and delivers quality at a good price. Very friendly staff too!

Electric Towel radiator connection broke , revealing bare wires. limited hot water for the bath. I found this to be a strange little hotel. It is an odd design with some rooms that are located outside of the main building. This necessitates walking some distance on the main street and several flights of stairs.
Reception is not 24 hours so this is not ideal for late arrivals or early departures as it means walking on your own for some distance in the middle of night.

My welcome at the hotel was excellent, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, even walking me to the door to explain how to access part of the hotel. Breakfast was great and again very friendly staff. It was available at the time I booked it. I would come back. Thanks for making me so welcome.

Was the hottest day of the year so far and my room was west facing with no air-con. Luckily someone had opened the windows and provided a fan, but still it was a bit warm.
The restaurant and bar area are nicely laid out and the menu had some great choices on the specials board. I will certainly be back when the weather is cooler!

This is our 2nd stay at the Red Lion. On this cccasion we were in the annexe. Although the room was ok, it was of a lower quality of the room we’d had in the main hotel. The communal hallway was grubby and tired looking and we could hear low level noise from adjacent rooms. We were a little disappointed.

I always enjoy my stay here. It is close to the rail station, the breakfast is perfect and a great value. I realize that they are having some staffing issues, and they could use some work on getting the little tea shop front of house/back of house rhythm. The beds are firm, be aware, so if you need a softer mattress, ask for an extra duvet to sleep on top of.

Room was comfortable if a bit on the small side for a double. I think 2 people in there would be crowded. No hot water despite running the taps for 5 minutes. This didn’t bother me as the electric shower was good enough. Breakfast was good but the service was a bit hit or miss.

Car parking was tight , reception and bar was full and the kitchen were clearly stretched to cater for guests and wedding. Table for diner booked a week in advance and hotel should not have accepted the booking. Too few staff to manage although they all tried with genuine smiles.

A sad farewell from a previous regular
This was my second awful stay at this hotel so I'll be going elsewhere now.
I've stayed happily at this hotel many times but unfortunately on last 2 occasions I've been shunted into the annexe hotel down the road.
In this stay, my room (312) had 2 windows and neither had a curtain (just a net curtain!), the carpet showed no sign of being cleaned in recent months, the toilet had a machine attached that make an absolute racket when flushed (or just randomly in middle of night), no replenishment of toiletries, I wasn't provided with a key to outside door by night porter so had to ask him to escort me down road and use his master key, and walls were so thin I could hear every word of conversations in neighbouring room (even when reception came to check occupant was OK as he hadn't been seen all day!).
My previous stay was in room 327, directions only go up to 326!, the TV was broken and couldn't be fixed, curtains were very thin and let in light, carpet was dirty and some hideous stains on side of bed, no replenishment of toiletries (after a 10 minute wait at reception, I was supplied with 2x shampoo after asking for shower gel)
