The unique thing about this property is that Gert and Marlene treat everyone as individuals and you soon feel part of the family. They have really taken on board the Mauritian way and that translates into a really relaxed vibe. Wonderful food and a great night's sleep! Highly recommend if you want an authentic experience that is a stone's throw from a paradise beach!

Host Denis was very professional, helpful, efficient and friendly. He spoke many languages French, English, German Italian. The staff were very helpful also. The room with garden view was clean, quiet and spacious. Location on main road was easy to find but not noisy. Parking opposite hotel. Restaurant service excellent with set menu or a la carte. Other restaurants and shops within walking. Trou aux Biches beach also walking distance or sit on rock wall watching sunset. The reflection of setting sun on water appears red like fire. Would definitely stay again when in Mauritius

What a wonderful discovery. La Tonnelle is run by a delightful host, Denis, who knows the island inside and out and has lots of wonderful stories and suggestions. The rooms are simple and comfortable, and the hotel is just a few steps away from one of the nicest beaches on the island. Walking distance from restaurants (though food at the hotel is great too) and supermarkets and pharmacy. Though the hotel isn't beachfront, there is a private beach club, where you can rent lounges and umbrellas for a minimal fee, is nearby, so you can still get the resort experience with out paying resort prices.

First of all, it NOT on the beach. You must exit the property and either walk across the road for a beach view ONLY (it’s the fish dock). OR walk 400-500 paces for beach access. That being said, the staff were friendly and welcoming and food was good for dinner

I had a lovely stay after a busy few weeks so enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of La Tonnelle. The room is adequate not luxurious by any means but dinner is an experience, brush up on your French, and you will enjoy the conversation. Even if you don't know much French it is still enjoyable as you sit with all the guests and fabulous food and hospitality. Lovely beach closeby to watch the sunset and paddle.

The dinner takes place in one long and elegant table. Sitting together with the owner, his wife and all the other guests, this makes the atmosphere very friendly, sociable and enjoyble. The feeling of staying at La Tonnelle It is like when you visit a dear old friend or you have dinner with family.
We asked the breakfast to be arranged at 6am and the owner had no problem with it, our last day we had the flight at 22pm and the owner had no problem to let us check out anytime we wanted so we could enjoyed the day on the beach.
I recommend also the patisserie next door (also belonging to La Tonnelle) where you can enjoy tartes, macarons etc.

Le personnel est très sympathique et serviable, à l’image des Mauriciens. Toujours prêt à nous arranger et faciliter notre séjour. La proximité du club de plongée est un réel plus. Malheureusement les chambres n’ont pas dû être rénovées depuis une quinzaine d’années et il peut y avoir des odeurs d’humidité. Les photos ne reflètent pas du tout l’état de l’établissement.

Schönes Hotel in direkter Strandnähe. Vor allem hat uns die besondere Atmosphäre gefallen, die durch das sehr zuvorkommende Team gestaltet wurde. Abends essen die Gäste i.d.R. gemeinsam an einem Tisch. So kann man sich mit anderen Gästen über interessante Ausflugziele austauschen. Das ist super wenn man das erste Mal auf Mauritius ist. Uns als Pärchen sind durch die netten Kontakte nie die Ideen für Ausflugsziele ausgegangen. Der Besiter der Anlage und seine Frau essen i.d.R. gemeinsam und geben auf Wunsch weitere Anregungen und stehen für alle Fragen zur Verfügung.

Das Angebot des Table d'Hôte zeichnet das Hotel aus! Das Essen ist vorzüglich und der Gastgeber bereichert die Abende mit tollen Geschichten und Tipps. Hier wird man nicht abgezockt, sondern weitergeholfen! Mein Einzelzimmer war schön und hatte ein schönes Bad. Das Frühstück ist auch gut und bietet eine zufriedenstellende Auswahl.
Ich war in der Nebensaison, weshalb es ruhiger und das Angebot eher eingeschränkt war. Das Wetter war nicht so gut, es hat häufig genieselt und tagsüber wehte ein frischer Wind. Trotzdem gibt es viel zu unternehmen und zu entdecken, wenn man sich darauf einlässt .

Po pierwsze wspaniała właścicielka La Tonnelle, która wspierała mnie dobrym słowem podczas zagrożenia cyklonem:)) Będę ją zawsze miło, i jeszcze długo, wspominała! Bardzo dobre kolacje. Pokój skromny, ale dla mnie był w zupełności wystarczający. Dwie minuty od plaży, trzy minuty do marketu. Pół minuty od przystanku autobusowego:)

La prima cosa che ti colpisce quando arrivi alla guesthouse La Tonelle e' la cordiale accoglienza dei proprietari . L' albergo si trova in ottima posizione nei pressi della spiaggia di Trou aux biches. La spiaggia piu' bella e' pero' quella di Mont Choisy che si trova a 3 km.
Ritengo che questa posizione sia una delle migliori di quelle che ho visto a Mauritius.
La camera assegnataci era ampia, pulita ed essenziale. Ci sono frigobar, aria condizionata,
asciugacapelli, cassaforte e tv a schermo piatto ( No programmi italiani). Il WiFi e' gratuito ma un po' lento e instabile.

Je conseille de rester le soir pour dîner en table d'hôtes, la cuisine familiale est délicieuse et d'excellent rapport qualité-prix. La chambre était agréable, la salle d'eau avec un lavabo un peu petit. Hôtel au bon rapport qualité-prix.

Wunderschöner Urlaub!! Hat alles super funktioniert und es können spontan Touren geplant werden. Französisch ist von Vorteil, aber mit englisch kommt man gut durch, sowohl in der Anlage als auch auf der Insel. Der öffentliche Strand ist nur ein paar hundert Meter entfernt.

Zimmer war super, Frühstück dafür katastrophal
Das gebuchte Superior-Zimmer war sehr groß, verfügte über Klimaanlage, Fernseher (keine deutschen Sender), Kühlschrank, einen großen Balkon und ein bequemes Bett. Das Bad war hübsch eingerichtet, Shampoo etc. war vorhanden, allerdings verursachte die fehlende Duschabtrennung regelmäßig Überschwemmungen im Bad und die Badezimmertür war so verzogen, dass sie nicht zu schließen ging. Das WLAN war ausreichend vorhanden. Der Pool war marode, ohne Beschattung, das Wasser trübe und warm, Liegen nicht vorhanden. Das Frühstück war, bis auf die frischen Omelettes und Brötchen, ein Witz. In den Marmeladen, die bereits vergoren rochen, fühlten sich die Ameisen wohl, Wurst gab es nicht, Käse (Scheibletten) war nur wenig vorhanden und wurde nicht nachgefüllt. Obst wurde im ganzen Stück dargeboten (z. B. Ananas), war aber mit den stumpfen Frühstücksmessern nicht zu schneiden. Bei der gebuchten Halbpension war ein abendliches Drei-Gang-Menü an einer langen Tafel mit allen Gästen enthalten, abwechselnd Fleisch und Fisch. Das Essen war in Ordnung, allerdings kein Highlight und die Portionen eher klein. Auf dem Gelände war eine gut organisierte Tauchschule sowie ein Massage- und Friseursalon (beides super!) und in der Nähe ein großer Supermarkt (Chez Popo) vorhanden. Direkt vor der Haustür sind kleine Imbisse, die tagsüber gutes Essen für ganz wenig Geld anbieten. Zum Strand muss man ca. 300 m über die Straße und einen kleinen Weg laufen. Dort kann man super Schnorcheln.

Wer Land und Leute kennen lernen möchte, ist im La Tonnelle saufgehoben. Die Zimmer sind einfach, aber mit allem ausgerüstet was man braucht. Das Personal ist freundlich und Denis mit Veronique erfüllen, nach Möglichkeit, jeden Wunsch. Das Highlight des Tages war das gemeinsame Abendessen, zusammen mit allen anderen Gästen an der langen Tafel. Zu erwähnen ist auch, dass es vor Ort eine Tauchbasis gibt. Wir haben uns jedenfalls sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne wieder.

The wi-fi was not as good as one could've hoped, but other than that a very pleasant hotel! Also on the premises is a wonderful dive center, and the closeness to this is absolutely a factor which is to consider if one is in Mauritius for diving!
