Staff was very courteous and helpful. Though the room condition, esp. carpet and sofa were less than desireable. I'm sure someone could look into it as it certainly needs a refurbishment.
Overall I'd say OK. Wouldn't stay with family.

We were attending the Queen concert and found this hotel had a great central location easy walk to the Arena; loads restaurants and shops close by; the public car park was convenient but is very tight I'm pleased I wasn't driving; rooms comfortable and clean; breakfast busy so ate in the bar area but not really a problem

Christmas Break at the Holiday Inn Express - Notts

I used to live in Nottingham and wanted a hotel in a good location for the shops. 24h Car parking can be expensive in Nottingham but this hotel had a deal with the local secure car park next to Hurts Yard (2 mins walk) so parking was approx £6.50 for the 24 hours which is a bargain. The room was clean, good flat screen TV, good bathroom, but bed perhaps a bit hard but this is always a personal thing so you may not have any issue here. I was expecting just a continental breakfast but there were some hot items also. Requested more pillows...not a problem and they were delivered to room in 10 minutes, I found the staff very friendly...another bonus. Combine this with a comparatively cheap rate to other hotels in the area and cheap parking I would stay here again.

The room was not cleaned, the door was damaged and a lamp was missing from one of the side table.
The hotel is clearly not to the standard of other Holiday Inn. I do not recommend this place.

Worst night in a hotel..

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! The bed had no brakes on it so it was moving around all the time, also it had a huge dip in the middle of the mattress which led to me and my partner having a sleepless night! The cot provided for my baby was broken which led to him having to sleep in his pram.. Along with this while trying to stop the bed from moving there where peanuts under the bed which proves the room wasn't cleaned properly.. Overall I think attention to detail is needed and the hotels interior and comfort looking in to, will not be staying here or at any holiday inn again..

Moved to room facing away from the road on an upper floor and consequently had a peaceful night. Corridors smelt clean and fresh. Breakfast was basic but sufficient. Surprisingly good coffee. Very good vfm.

it was a though we'd interrupted
brought the confirmation note that I had sent to confirm booking - show this them when I booked in as they coul dnot locate my name , to be told abrupt tha this is not one of ours
tea and coffee not replenished
Chamber maids came across rude in the corridors - unprofessional
check the coffee machine in the eating area and this tasted like chemicals especially the latte .

thisi was a little disappointing - but did the purpose for our needs

Had a lovely stay thank you .We stayed in room 208 and although it was a good room the mattress badly needs changing as it sinks in the middle, also the toilet seat needs tightening, gave me quite a fright when I sat down! These are only little niggles and would definitely stay again.

Family visit to Nottingham

Family visit to Nottingham to see the sights, so looking for cheap accommodation for us and 4 children. Rooms were quiet even though overlooking roundabout, suited us fine, sofa bed wasn't the greatest for an adult to sleep on but for younger children fine. Kids all tucked in to the breakfast. Well located for walking around town.

The hotel is in an ideal location bang in the middle of town...walk straight out the door into the chapel quarter...the hotel staff are extremely efficient and the lady in the dining area acutally went to tesco to buy us some gluten free bread for breakfast! Security is good but the room i stayed in - room 113 - was a little worse for wear...the carpet was very badly stained...there was a smell coming from somewere/thing....the bed was very lumpy...and the towels were small and threadbare....for the two nights i stayed there last week it was more than adequate for my needs but the rooms could definately do with some TLC and i would have been very upset if i'd paid full price for the room

unsuitable for families, excellent for nights out

we booked a room with our 18 month toddler. there was a foldable sofa bed that became her bed, and the only way she could sleep on it was across the bed, rather than along it. The shower pod was horrible, with the toilet giving out a stench that seemed quite nasty. Even our daughter used her own travel potty in the room, because the pod was unbearable. otherwise, breakfast was reasonable, the location is really good for city centre accessibility, however it is very hard to disembark and reload a vehicle as the hotel front is on a busy roundabout. i wouldn't recommend it to young families at all. noisy too, as it is next to a city center road.

Worst stay ever

Will never recommend this to anyone. All the beds in all the rooms creak every time you change side. I booked two double bedrooms with sofa beds and was expecting both the rooms to be together but they were on different floors. I had to stay night away from my family, website does mention surcharge for parking but it is £8.60 per day and Saturday night parking was a night mare. Rooms maintenance in bad condition. Second day I was moved to the same floor as my other family and the sofa bed in that room won't open up properly and I had to sleep on that which gave me back pain since the manager told me that he will have to charge me for additional room if he moves me into single room due to bad sofa bed. What a customer service? Third day hotel staff moved me into another room and therefore my whole stay was spent moving rooms everyday of my stay and I am totally annoyed because of that.

Good hotel, shame about the traffic noise

I thought the hotel itself was more than satisfactory. Staff were friendly, service was good and the room was very comfortable. It's just a shame about the location, as the traffic noise from the busy road outside was quite loud. It did quieten down through the night but there was still a constant buzz of cars, motorbikes and lorries and as a result, I didn't really get a good night's sleep. Shame, as the hotel itself was pretty good.

Very hot stay

Perfect location but the hotel is looking tired. I stayed here when it first opened and it was great but there are now broken doors and stained carpets. I had to move rooms due to the aircon not working. On a 26+ degree day it is very necessary! It was on the system as not working so I did wonder why they would put someone in there in that heat. The staff were really good and changed me without any issues.

We went to see a concert in the Nottingham Concert Hall and needed an overnight stay. The Holiday Inn Express was ideal for this. The room was clean and quiet. The breakfast and wi-fi free.The price for a Sunday night excellent. Great value shopping and bars/restaurants in Nottingham too.Would definately do it again!

Parking was a few hundred yards away and with no place to drop off and check in that meant lugging suitcases through the street. Internet connections completely inoperable. Unfortunately not a good stay. Hotel is probably ok by taxi but don't drive.

Average stay, less than average mattress

Booked a room at this hotel last minute. Not the easiest hotel to find at 10 o'clock at night, but we got there. Staff were alright at check in. Room was small, basic and for the most part clean. Mattress was so thin and cheap you could feel the springs when you lay on it, resulting in a restless night. Breakfast was a lot better than expected. Overall I would not recommend to friends or family.

Was an average experience for the money. There are better hotels close by which would offer better value for money. ***One word of caution is that there is a smoking corridor which I got stuck staying on and the smell of smoke really got to me. Make sure when you book to request a non smoking area of the hotel for all you non smokers***

Great location

The hotel was as I expect these hotels to be. The location is great, right in the city centre. You could fall out the door into all the shops, restaurants and bars you need. Wish parking was free- but you don't actually have to park too far away from the centre to get free parking on the road. The breakfast was included and again it was like you would imagine in a hotel like this...buffet style with a limited cooked breakfast, toast, croissants, yoghurts and cereals. My main complaint was that we were in a smoking room and we are non smokers. The windows do not open and so there was a smoky smell in the room which bothered us through our stay. The room was clean though. The staff were good and the service efficient. I would stay again anytime...but I'd make sure the room reserved was no smoking.

The hotel was clean the breakfast was ok just what you need before a return journey. The rooms were spacious beds comfy . Stayed at the hotel as we went to an event at the capital fm arena The only downfall was the service we wasn't asked if we had a pleasant stay I felt that we wasn't acknowledged because we were a family and not business stayers. I even had to ask about the discounted parking. I would recommend the hotel

Great location but a little noisy

The hotel is cleaner than i expected, everything is set up nicely (as i have requested a sofa bed to be set up nicely when booking). I'm quite satisfied with the hotel's overall service. The only drawback was that it was very noisy along the corridor, especially when the cleaners start to do their cleaning (doors banging when room cleaning was done) and talking very loudly like no one is staying in the other rooms. That's very inconsiderable!

Excellent location, near to restaurants. Clean and good value. Sofa bed for child very poor, mattress laid on the floor. Sofa bed was poor in comparison to other Holiday Inns. Room airless and pillows very hard, so not a comfortable night. Breakfast was good. I recommend you stay at the Mercure instead- much more comfortable.

Overnight stay after a show for friends birthday

Very pleased with location which was walking distance to venue for show, very comfortable room, normal facilities, only gripe was the pillows...rock hard.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us a map highlighting the places we had asked about.
Free wi if was a bonus. As was very hot and tasty breakfast also included in the price.
Would definitely stay here again next time we need a hotel in nottingham.

Good location, needs attention.

This hotel is well located but difficult to find, on a very busy roundabout. The website said parking was available, but I had to ring them to find out where that was, off another road on the roundabout. As we were late for a dinner booking we didn't examine the room, just dropped off our case. On our return we found no tissues in the bathroom and a VERY uncomfortable bed. To add insult to injury, after a bad night we were woken by the TV alarm at 7.20a.m. No tea bags so down to breakfast, the paper we'd ordered hadn't arrived but a receptionist apologised and cheerfully went out and bought one for me. Peculiar 'orange' juice and weird sausages but adequate croissants, toast, coffee etc. On checking out I mentioned the uncomfortable bed and was told they were in the process of updating those particular rooms, I seem to have heard that so often!

Convenient location

Was there for business for two nights. Although advertising about the availability of wireless is throughout the hotel, the internet was down for my entire stay. As an international traveller, the wireless was critical to me as I did not want to incur expensive roaming rates to access e-mail on my mobile phone. Had to go to McDonalds a block away to forward a ticket receipt to the front desk so they could print it for me. Thus there is also no printer access for customers to use to even print documents from a USB. This may have been an unfortunate 2 nights of timing of the only days the internet was down for this hotel over which they had no control, but it was a big frustration and inconvenience for me which has clouded this subsequent review. Everything else about the hotel was fine. I would just make sure the internet is available before booking this again.

Basic but does the job

I stay here regularly for work because it's good value for the convenience. Location is bang in centre of town. Breakfast is basic. Rooms are basic but clean. Front desk is friendly but can be slow. Avoid the twin beds - theyre uncomfortable. If you book online, make sure you dont accidentally get a smoking room.

Not very impressed - rooms not ready when we arrived at check in time and no one around to serve a drink while we waited. Room clean but basic and bed not comfortable, toiletries in a dispenser. Breakfast very basic. Staff a bit 'robotic' no warmth in the welcome and no emotion in their apologies -did minimum required. Felt like a motorway Travelodge. If I had paid £40 a night I'd probably have been pleased but for £90/night I expected more. Wouldn't go back.

The bed thing about this hotel is the location no need to move the car once you are able to find the car park as there is NO on site car park. Breakfast is self service and of a poor standard rooms are tiny how ever are clean but basic you get what you pay for here - if location is important then the hotel is good.

Not worth the original price!!

We paid 49.95£ for one night with free breakfast I would of not paid any more normal price is 89£ this hotel and service is not worth this high price. A woman was the only person checking in 8pm when we arrived told her 20minutes to serve people in front of us with making loads of mistakes and rubbish manor. When we were finally served she tried to make me pay again even thou I paid through PayPal over the Internet days before . She didn't give us information on the Resturant discounts we could get until the day we left. She told us it was her first day but the people were working just seemed to be sitting in the back room leaving her to it, even though she didn't have a clue. The hotel it self was at a nice standard just needs a big of refurb . Great location. Breakfast standard but don't have bacon.

Perfect location - pedestrian zone and a lot of restaurants right outside the door, and several parking garages nearby.

Too small for families, shouldn't offer it as family accommodation.

Also toilets smell & pollute room as no extractor fans for smells or shower steam, etc

Great to have air conditioning. No information on booking site about the difficulty getting to this hotel and not knowing that parking was at a parking station. So we had to wheel our travel suitcases a fair distance back to the hotel. Once settled, it was close to attractions.

Too many things didn't work.

Very annoying. Ended up being in our third room by the time we left due to chronic issues. Would definitely never stay there again.

Disgusting, stale, smelly room.

We were given a smoking room even though we are non-smokers. There were no opening windows for fresh air and the stench was disgusting. When we complained, we were told we could not have another room as they were all booked, so they gave us a bottle of air freshener! The stale smell got into all our clothes which still smelt disgusting the next day. and we had to dry clean all of our clothes, Considering the amount we paid, the room was extremely basic. Avoid at all costs!

Perfectly adequate hotel!

Stayed at the hotel to watch my brother compete in the Outlaw tri.
2 children age 8 and 5 and a baby age 6 months fitted in the room but it was a bit of a squeeze.
I was disappointed that the wifi was so expensive 20pounds for 24 hours, but overall for the price we were very happy with what we got.

lost in translation

The stay for myself and friends was eventful to say the least. More than 3 times the keys to our room were decoded and we had to trek downstairs each time for new keys. There is no access to any close parking garages that are not 2-3 blocks away (they do not tell you this on the web page). Also there is no gym/fitness/spa access, the next door one that they tell you to use is actually a private place and you must go .5 miles up the road and pay 15 pounds. To say the least, this hotel will NOT be utilized again.

Great location

It was great to stay in the city centre, too convenient for meals, shops, all kinds of transportation for touring the city and adjacent tourist sites. Just we had to purchase internet and sometime the process took too long or cumbersome. Overall, I am satisfied in statying this hotel.
