What a gem of a property. Lovely quiet courtyard with pool, hammocks and chairs large room, comfy beds and plump pillows. Gorgeous Mexican palapa style house. Kitchen had basic utensils, missing a.few essentials like bottle opener! Quiet residential area. On street parking with cameras.

I usually love sending my friends and family here while they visit me however, this time I was terribly disappointed. We were declined another room when there was a large spider residing in the pillowcase. My visitors didn’t feel comfortable sleeping in that room. Although it has rustic charm, there are fairly large gaps and a hole in the front door, allowing critters to come in. After back-and-forth conversation with Hotel management, they would only give us a different room if we paid more money, if a room is not fit to sleep in, you shouldn’t make your guests pay more to simply sleep in another room, especially when there is availability.

The property was quite nice in appearance and was safe because it is a gated facility. The staff was very nice and particularly Lucas was very helpful.
I got a little lazy and took a taxi to the airport, which the property arranged for the same fee posted on 5th Avenue, but it is located about one mile from ADO Touristica and ADO Alterna bus terminals. Maid service was good, but the mattresses were a little old,but had been covered with a foam layer for better comfort. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

This place wasn't too bad he gave you a nice authentic Mexican experience almost like a hostile but not. You had a shared living or common area. Had your own private bungalow. My two cons were they didnt have away of calling taxi. The mosquitoes were vicious lol!

The place was clean but some days they didn't clean the table or the shower. I may have not checkes well, but they do not have a place for parking inside the property. The room we got was a cross the street from the place that appears in the photos with the swimming pool. We didn't used since we had other plans just be aware there are two properties. On the other hand our room had its own kitchen.

Good hotel, can be improved.

The room was big, clean and well-decorated. There were water shortages in the taps though and at sometimes there was barely any water coming out of them. The light bulb in the kitchen was dead which made it difficult to use this space. Apart from that, the hotel is beautiful although it is very far from everything, so make sure you are not on foot.

Phenomenal hidden gem of a place- the staff clean it top to bottom daily along with all common areas and the little black house cat named 420 is there!! ( he’s just lazy and looks at you half asleep - hence 420) super sweet little guy.

Our room was tended to immaculately , the water pressure was absolutely outstanding in the shower that we turned back the dials allowing for a more governed flow of water but also always hot water was a plus! No complaints at all.

The pool water was excellent heated by the sun and extremely comfortable to go in with no shock to the system when jumping in the pool getting used to the water , it’s soothing and warm.

Wifi was good too!

We never worried of security issues on the property. Staff are respectful but please be aware nobody speaks English - go prepared with a language translator like we did to make it smoother to check in. No biggy we are the visitors in Mexico , we need to learn some Spanish too :)

Great value and we will be back if we visit PDC again :)

Its true - the reviews you read that shows 5 stars - yes its true!

We stayed in what I call the palapa room but on the keys to the room its called the Arriba Room.

It was very different than what we are used to , straw room and all and thinking about possible bugs and issues in the room but that is truly not the case at all, in fact its super clean and has quiet air conditioning, a safe, a 5 gallon complimentary water jug and dispenser to fill up your bottles before you venture out into the sun. The sheets and pillows are clean, and smell amazing. Same with the bath towels they provided us .

Plenty of street parking for those who have a car , and a little fridge and freezer in our room as well.

The King size bed is extremely comfortable with mesquito netting - it is quite the relaxing experience - best sleeps!

They have a black cat that wonders the property, I think a stray that was taken in - he is sweet , docile and very cute - so chill that we nick named him 4:20 ( though we dont partake in that ) If you see him - one look into his little cat eyes and you will get it too. He sleeps around the pool most of the day, chills out outside our room curled up in a little ball , peaceful and chill. LOVE this little addition to the stay :)

All in all this is truly a great affordable place to stay.

Its a 20 minute walk to 5th ave if you are the tourist type - but along the way there are tons of shops to grab a bite cheap - drinks etc. Ive run out of space to write!

Used to be quiet but dogs barking and people talking on their cell phones outside was a bother. I never got the stove working so used the microwave alot. Netflex worked most of the time. Overall a good value for PDC.

Takeaway: It’s a good priced hotel but the experience is like camping. Fine if on a budget (which I was—I just wasn’t expecting lots of it). Not for if you want a fancy equipped hotel.

Cons:
-ac was off when we arrived and wouldn’t blow hard enough to make room really cold
-water didn’t work the first morning
-bugs all the time even in the bed bc windows can’t/wont close all the way and lizard kept coming in
-can’t flush toilet paper???
-bathroom not air conditioned so it was hot and muggy
-whatsapp lady only answered half the time after I tell her the problem is resolved
-bed is hard as a rock
-water jug wasn’t filled up and no water bottles offered (since apparently the water can sometimes make foreigners sick)
-wifi wouldn’t stay connected
-dirt falls onto bed
-can hear everything outside the room including loud sales people on bikes blasting the radio
-awful water pressure (took me 20 mins just to wash my hair and that was using the cups provided for the unfilled water jug)

Pros:
-budget friendly
-small and cute architecture

Exotic and Quiet Getaway

This is well overdue, but I wanted to say we had a wonderful stay at Casa Ejido in April 2021. We stayed upstairs in the main home with a thatched roof. That was a new experience for us and we loved it! The mosquito nets made it feel exotic and romantic. We shared the kitchen with other guests, and we met friendly people from several different countries who were staying there. The oven was a little tricky, but once we were shown how to start the pilot, it was good. We were a few blocks from buses and the supermarket, and just a few more from the beach. We were told the neighborhood was a little sketchy at night, but we didn't see anything of concern except that it was deserted, and we walked everywhere. There is a resident cat that likes to hang out, and the pool was unheated, but comfortable. I was expecting a bug problem, but no bugs anywhere that I saw. I was in a nice hotel in cancun where we saw several cochroaches, but never here! I was really surprised due to the thatched roof. Also, our plans changed with family members whose plane was delayed and Felipa was great about getting us reservations for Xcaret last minute at a discount! She also helped us book some other tours and gave us great recommendations. She was the perfect host. She is a native English speaker for those who don't speak Spanish. She also arranged with her housekeeper to do laundry for us. Not a 5 star hotel, but we wanted something different and we got it, and it was a great little getaway!

liked the quite, liked that there was secure parking, filtered water provided and the wifi was decent.
Besides the bed bugs, my booking included breakfast and they tried to sell us breakfast and insisted the included was pastries and coffee. we ended up in an apartment Building that's re purposed as a hotel 2 blocks away. After we got bites the first couple of days I sent them photos of the bites, a bug we found, shells and bug poop on the sheets (reminds me of the urine stains we found on the bedding) They were careful not to apologize or admit any fault but said we can leave and they would Approve a full refund once Expedia contacted them, sure enough after we left they claimed no bugs were found, offered us another room, and then only issued a pro-rated refund minus an extra night because we left half an hour after their 12pm checkout time. Would NEVER stay with them again.

Really enjoyed our stay at Casaejido. Firstly, the staff were great at check-in and allowed us to access our room a couple of hours early. They then have us lots of useful info about the hotel and the area.
We had a studio, which was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The kitchen was well equipped so making meals was easy. The location is a little far away from the ‘action’ but still walkable. It was perfect for us as we hired a car and we were using the hotel as more of a base to explore the rest of the area. Would recommend.

The place was good. A little far from the lagoon but not too much. A lot of mosquitoes by the pool area. Inside was good without mosquitos. The breakfast was amazing. The AC wasnt very cold. The only way to get to the town is by walking or getting a taxi cab

We spent 2 nights with poor air conditioning on a hot/humid weather despite letting staff know about the problem ahead of time, and they blamed us for not bringing it to their attention again on the second night. They simply neglected our complaint until the last and third night.

Next time, ask for a quiet room.

This room was hugely noisy overnight. Unsure if due to a vibrating pipe or normal climate system switching on/off but our room was pretty close to the source of the noise which lasted all night long. Everything else was good but this was a disappointment as our 2nd stay here. Please be careful to ask for a quiet room if you do not want to ensure a restful night. It’s still one of the best value for money places you can find in Playa.

Very nice and clean hotel. Nice pool and people are always cleaning. The morning breakfast was great. The only 2 things I didn’t like was that there was no TV (although we weren’t in the room much) and even though we put a do not disturb sign on the door people would come in to turn off the AC and we would walk back into a hot room. The last night we couldn’t even get the AC to turn back on and had to sleep in heat. Other than that it was a good hotel with nice staff.

I got more than expected at this hotel! I stayed in the king suite. It was very clean and comfortable and quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a pool but I never had the chance to use it. The only possible downside I felt was that downtown is about a 20 minute walk at least. I say possible because it can be a good thing. You avoid the noise of downtown and get to experience the city a little more, not to mention the exercise. Besides if You rented a scooter or car or bike it would be a breeze getting back and forth.

Started off in the economy room which was ok but windows had gaps and bathroom didn’t have windows at all so got eaten alive by mozzy’s which really put a dampener on the start of the holiday. We asked to be moved and the apartment was great. I haven’t been to Mexico before so when I arrived I had my concerns of the neighbourhood. After being there a short time I knew I was too quick to judge. It was fine, people were nice and I didn’t feel uncomfortable once. Collectors only cost 10 peso’s to get to town centre to. Should go to Alux which is a restaurant in a cave, fancy but what a place and only 5 mins away. We just had a drink there and it was awesome. Staff were very helpful. If it hadn’t started off badly with all the bites I would have said close to perfect.

The hotel apartments are on a quiet street. They are clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and effective. The hotel is about 2 km from the nearest beach and about 5 km from the Kool Beach area. Walking is pleasant. Taxi is an inexpensive option too.

I Love Casa Ejido !!!

I have stayed at several all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and I was more than pleased with them but Casa Ejido has them all beat! I loved all the space and comfort of our apartment! The staff is the best and value can't be beat. I will return to this resort anytime I'm visiting the Playa Del Carmen area. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation!

I highly recommend this hotel. Price vs quality is really good. Staff very helpful and friendly. Quiet location, felt safe. Only about 15-20 min walk to beach.
Rooms are clean, beds comfortable. Bit of a musty smell but to be expected considering its the tropics.

Nice place with a more authentic feel on the “Bed and Breakfast” side. 30 min walk along well lit roads to downtown Playa del Carmen. Quiet, botled water included. If you need to check out between 10pm and 7am, you can leave the keys in the room and use the vehicle door since the main exit will be locked. FYI, the very friendly cat can get into the Chico room even if the door is closed, don’t be surprised!

The accommodation was great. We stayed in the building a couple of blocks from reception. Great comfy beds and fully stocked kitchen.
20 min walk to Fifth Avenue. Supermarket 10 mins walk. Reception can arrange taxis.
Watch out....taxi from ADO bus station charged us $10 (we’d just arrived late at night and therefore paid it ) Prob should’ve cost half that price or less.
Would definitely recommend Casa Ejido. Owner is English, very welcoming as are all staff.

Nice, quiet place to stay with a family atmosphere

Enjoyed the birds singing in the mornings. Nice hammock in my balcony. Food smelled great from the kitchen, I felt like I was staying with suburbia Mexican family. On second thought, I am glad I didn’t have TV in my room (I paid for the cheapest room- the chicko) The street parking is safe. The manager was nice enough to allow me late check out. I would stay there again! Love Playa Del Carmen and their beautiful people. God bless!

Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel portion I stayed in was like a large house with kitchen, dining tables, and living room area. I stayed in the smallest room available, called Chico. It had a private bathroom, but it was located down the hall, not in the room. Hotel was in residential area of Playa del Carmen. Close to buses and taxis. Basic pool was nice to cool down in. Made use of the hammock hanging by the pool. Hotel was clean, basic, and inexpensive. No TV in the room, so bring books. There is an adorable black cat, named Mitzi, that kept me company. Most of the time it was quiet and peaceful. One night at 11:30pm, there were some noisy guests in the swimming pool, just outside my room. I called the front desk, and they took care of it immediately. It was quiet in about 5 minutes. I would stay there again.

Brilliant room, brilliant staff, brilliant price!

Can't recommend staying at Casa Ejido highly enough. The only minor drawback is the fact that you either have to walk for 20-25 minutes or get a taxi to and from the downtown area where all Playa's lively bars and restaurants are. But the location itself is lovely - very quiet with plenty of little shops and a huge supermarket nearby. Plus, a taxi to and from downtown should only cost around 50 pesos (just make sure you agree a price with the driver before getting in!).

Lovely boutique hotel in quiet area of Playa del Carmen. The hotel staff were very accommodating, the room was clean and the linen was soft and the bed comfort. We had a kitchen that was well equipped. The garden area and pool was a quiet and cool retreat. Really recommend this place if you want to be away from the noise of 5 th Avenue.

Comfortable accomadations , however advantages taken. I had purchased airport transportation for $36.00us and was charged $57.00us when I arrived at the hotel. I had not been advised of any price change ahead of time. Even though I had waited some time to leave the airport, it was explained that I was the only passenger and was charged for a \"personal\" trip.(I could have used the very comfortable bus for $9.00)
It was also required that I sign a blank credit card form before they would check me in.(made me wonder what kind of people usually stayed there. I will not return.

Quiet place to stay

Check in and out were smooth, we had a private cabin right in front of the pool, provided with kitchen, shower, coffee maker, and all. Lovely safe space, rustic and homely. Staff offered plenty of discount options for local tourist stuff. Air conditioning was loud and didn't work fantastically but it was livable. For the price we paid 28$USD, this was a steal.

A Budget Gem

Check-in was flawless and we were given excellent advice about the neighbourhood. We had no issues with leaving our rental car parked on the street right outside the gate and walked to several of the recommended restaurants in the area during our four night stay. The B&B side, where my husband and I were located in the budget accommodations, was were the pool and communal kitchen was located. The apartments are just across the street. The pool was much larger than expected. There were always staff around and all were friendly. We did not opt for the breakfast option, but it looked very tasty. The hammock was almost alway in use by someone, but there were other loungers and tables and chairs. There was also a video and book library for (free) use by guests. The place was clean, there were lots of towels and the sheets were changed daily. Our room had a fridge, big water jug, AC unit, and a table and chairs. I could see happily spending more time here away from the hustle of downtown Playa. Two thumbs up!

Got there at 3 am in the morning after flight delays. Vanessa was fantastic in assisting us with transportation and late check in. Staff were friendly and helpful. 20 minute walk to the beach and 5th avenue. I would recommend to friends.

Clean-Comfortable and Reasonable

If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay a little off the beaten path, this is the place. We opted to stay here to save and do different tours and packages. The staff is extremely helpful and curtious. We met some really nice people staying there also. There is a grocery/department store within blocks and some nice restaurants close by (Alux and Nativos). Keep in mind you will be at the edge of the residential section but we felt safe even at night. We would recommend this place to the traveler that is not looking for the pampered resort experience!

Blender, toaster, stovetop full fridge and water cooler and utensil, dishes dish rack available in room. sitting area with coffee table, dining room table as well as sitting area outside. great location, right behind main street agenda benito juarez with 24/7 taxis running up and down the street. taxi to beach is about 2/3usd. the hotel gives u coupons for 50% off chairs/umbrellas at Mamitas beach club, 3 chairs and an umbrella came out to about 12usd with the coupon. full service at beach club, about a 5min cab. two restaurants within a block as well as a wood burning pizza place that delivers, burger bar and several local taco \"shacks\" all within a block. safe street at night, 24/7 camera outside hotel door, safe in room with key lock. a 25 min walk down benito juarez and you are on fifth avenue/the strip. a walmart type store - chedraui - is across the street from the hotel. a 24/7 convenience store - oxxo - across the way as well. great linens/towels-the fabric softener they use smells amazing.

Small and simple hotel quite far from the beach which was a disappointment. Breakfast was awful and so overpriced at $7! I think there are a number of better hotels for the same price that are higher quality and much closer.
But the staff were very friendly and helpful, and since we had a car we were able to park right outside and drive around, otherwise we'd be stuck in a neighborhood with nothing around and no way to get anywhere.

Straight Forward Place to Stay

Good place to stay for a couple of nights. Staff is friendly. Property is divided into two properties across the street from one another. Room 10 is upstairs-no elevator, but short steps. Swimming pool was across the street. The say beach towels available for rental, but you DO NOT get your money back-so just say beach towel fee per towel. There is an entire disclaimer about their fees; if you are too loud, stain the sheets, stain the towels, leave dirty dishes in the sink, lose your key, lose the safe key, or lose the TV remote. They can offer coupons for some of the local establishments, but their website offers a wealth of information which they also provide in-room. I did not opt for breakfast because I thought I would sleep through it, but it is available if you don't initially request it for $7 USD they can add to your bill. I would stay here again, but its a pretty straight forward place to stay. April was hot and humid! Catch your own taxi two blocks on B.Juarez Blvd anytime of day-no problems anywhere in the downtown area to catch a taxi for 35 pesos.

Beware of this place's Operating Procedures

We planned our Mexican Vacation way back in April and secured our 2 bedroom condo at the Hotel Casaejido so that we could enjoy our large space in Playa del Carman for what appeared to be a very reasonable price during the xmas season.

Upon arrival the front desk clerk advised that they had tried to put through my credit card but it was declined for some reason. So instead of contacting me to obtain a different card....

~~~ THEY GAVE AWAY OUR ROOM WITHOUT TELLING US ~~~

They didn't even bother to contact me via the email address I had given them or my phone number that I had given them. We get to the front desk and you can imagine our surprise. Nope, sorry you have no room. We gave your room away!

This in effect left us homeless in Mexico during the christmas season and left us with the impossible task of trying to find another room for 4 people during this busy season.

If you want to tempt fate by staying here during the busy season and something should go wrong with your credit card BEWARE, they will simply give your room away without telling you and pretend that this is standard procedure. You will be in for a nasty surprise when you arrive.

Perfect for long stay

We stayed in the condo and it was perfect. The room had 2 balconies, full kitchen and living room. The parking was also very secure. The only negative part was that we were unable to get warm water, it was super cold or too hot. But overall it was great. The architecture of the building was absolutely wonderful!

Room was well equipped and spotlessly clean. It is located away from the tourist areas, but an easy walk to shops and ten to fifteen minute walk to 5th avenue and the beach. Taxis were cheap and easily obtainable. However, it was 30 pesos going to beach, but we were quoted 100 to come back...we walked. A very good grocery store is is only 3 blocks away. we very much enjoyed seeing more of the local flavor.
We did have a couple of very minor issues, but the staff were responsive and helpful. The bed was comfortable and it was mostly very quiet at night.

Great place, better than we could have expected. A bit away from the action, but if you are willing to walk a bit then I don't think you can beat it. I actually preferred the distance since it's away from the noise of central Playa, and gives us forced exercise when we want to go there (you can also rent bikes cheap here). You go to sleep in silence instead of thumping music, and wake up to birds chirping.

The mini apartment we stayed in has pretty much everything you could want with a king sized bed, nice kitchenette, good bathroom, table and chairs, couch, A/C. Very spacious, more features than almost any hotels I have stayed. Only complaint is there is absolutely no hooks to hang towels or clothes. If everything was perfect would have a toaster oven instead of toaster, can cook more things in that.

On top of this there is a pool across the street in a shared complex that you can use. Great way to start the day and cool off later. There is a large grocery store just minutes away, and restaurants close too. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, as long as you are fine with a bit of extra walking/biking/cab distance to the beach and 5th avenue.

A delightful place to stay - quiet safe area

A little oasis - with a range of accommodation. Many were students studying Spanish. Very reasonable cost for area. Some things to note - bring some DVD's if you do not speak English - they have DVD players in the room but limited library of DVD movies, none in English (only one that did not work). My wife and I stayed in small bungalow. We would definitely stay again. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beds were a little soft but not terrible.

Quiet Hotel in a typical neighborhood, good value

I stayed in the apartment complex and not the main hotel/B&B. They have three different locations near each other and the person at reception will walk you to the right building. The apartment I stayed in is large and spacious with everything you need but the remote for the air conditioning was hard to find. Luckily the weather was cool so the AC wasn't really needed.

The location is in a quiet area away from all the hustle and bustle of the beachfront. It's about a 20 minute walk to the water or a 30 peso ride so nothing too inconvenient.

The service upon arrival was great. The idea of having a kitchen is just what we were hoping for, very useful, and everything in good condition. The hotel is a little far from the beach, if youre hoping to be just a couple of minutes away (it took us about 10-15 mins to walk to the beach), but on the other hand, it´s just a couple of blocks from the freeway that takes you from Cancun tu Tulum, so if your idea is to rent a car and get out and see the region, this is a great location to have as base.

Hidden gem.

Nice, quiet hotel away from loud crowds. The room was very clean and had kitchen with utensils and kitchen ware. It is approximately 12 minutes from Xcaret, which was where we spent our time. It is also located about 5 blocks from the main highway that runs from Cancun to Playa del Carmen. It was hard to find because there are two streets next to each other with the same name. The pillows were a bit firmer than I like, but everything was neat and clean. We rented a car and there was security all night on our street. A great restaurant, Azul, about 2.5 blocks from hotel that is located in a cavern on Juarez Street, most interesting, and the food was great.

At first i was skeptical given the location was so far from the strip, but it was a fantastic place to stay. The rooms were clean, and it was close to two fantastic restaurants, Alux and Nativo(a fantastic place for breakfast). It was easy to navigate to the main tourist areas, but was located in a quiet neighborhood. We thoroughly enjoyed our quiet nights in their court yard. They had same day laundry service and the staff was fantastic

All was well except for a hotel employee stopping by one morning to collect a late check in fee ( which was never advertised) 2 days after we had already been here. We paid $33 US per night

Well-kept, great apartments w/ kitchen.

Review for one of the 1-BR units which are in a separate building (together w/ 2-BR units).

If you want a kitchen, have a car, plan to stay a while, don't like to be hassled by housekeeping in the morning, desire to be away from the crowds and noise, this place is great and *very* recommended. It's not close to 5ta Ave and the beach. What you get in return is quiet at night and sounds of song birds in the morning. I stayed for 2+ weeks and liked it a lot. I took the advice of another reviewer and rented a bike and quite loved riding this through town (surprising to me, PdC actually has a quite nice network of bike paths) and didn't care at all that it wasn't close to \"the action\".

The apartment is spacious, of quality construction and in very good shape and spotlessly clean. Two balconies, no-step shower, free water cooler, free safe, no shared walls (only ceilings).

To me, Casa Ejido is the place to stay in PdC, and I'll be back.

As other reviewers pointed out, the manager, Vanessa, is fantastic. Not only was she on top of everything at all times, but she's a real pleasure to converse with (in native English) and couldn't have been more helpful (she even found/bought me a camera battery charger when I shared that couldn't find one in town). Her team is sweet and professional. They don't bother you in the mornings (they come when you're gone, not when you're in) and keep good care of everything.

Nice neighborhood but a taxi ride to beach

Upon arrival the hotel had no water. The staff stated that this has never happened before and they worked very hard to get it back on. it was fixed within an hour.
The hotel room was great! It was essentially a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen (minus an oven, but had a two burner stove) bathroom, bedroom and a small sitting area (living room) and a dining room. The a/c worked well.
The neighborhood was nice and when staff was unavailable to call a taxi, it was a short walk to the main road where it was very easy to find one. There are a couple of nice restaurants nearby. Our favorite near the hotel was Nativo where you can get fruit plates, smoothies and a number of mexican dishes.
The only negative things I will mention are few and truly not that bad. The pool was being refinished therefore, you had to take a taxi to the beach to swim (not a bad alternative.) The bed was a somewhat uncomfortable, but after a hot day at the beach it was good enough.
Overall nice place to stay if you don't mind being away from the beach and don't want to stay in a resort. It's definitely worth the price.
