The hotel is very tired and really needs a refresh. Cleaning was also not great. I had lots of long thick dark hairs on my bathroom floor on my visit.

Very chaotic.

Receptionist was smiling and helpful, despite clearly having to put up with a total mess backstage.

Duty manager was neither on duty nor even onsite or anywhere nearby.

Computer had gone down on check in, and they could not program the room keys without it, so all that happened was the queue got longer and longer as no-one could get to their rooms.

No sign of a backup plan, either.

It's an old tired hotel, smeggy corridors and dilapidated fittings in many places. My room was not too bad - nice new-looking bathroom and comfortable bed. But seriously loud sucking and blowing noises from the sewage pipes every time another room flushed their toilet, enough to wake me several times in the night.

Finally after checking out and leaving, they called me to try to claim I'd eaten in the restaurant. Firstly why did this not show when I was checking out? And secondly, I hadn't eaten there, so what was going on? Faulty computer system again?

It was a shambles - I'd have to be feeling desperate before going there again.

Nobody informed regular hotel guests that a giant party was going to be happening during our stay.
The regular food and bar service was closed to regular guests unannounced.
The party guests were loud, belligerent, and drunk because they were over served. There were multiple under-aged kids drinking alcohol in the lobby. The noise level made it impossible to rest or even just simply enjoy watching television.
They are understaffed to handle that many people and their staff is untrained in dealing with a large intoxicated crowd.
When I tried to address the issue with the staff they appeared frightened, confused, and unable to address the drunkenness going on.
Some of the party guests became rude and threatening.
We had to lock ourselves in our room afraid to venture into the hallways or lobby due to this loud, drunken, abusive, and threatening group of out of control partiers.

Confusion at checkout, otherwise good.

Had a perfectly pleasant stay, but this was marred by the experience during and after checkout. I had ordered drinks at the bar, and also some food on the evening of my stay, and had these charged to the room. On checkout, I was only charged for the drinks, and I mentioned that I had also had some food items to pay for. I was told by the reception staff on duty that those items weren't on the system, and as the service during my stay \"hadn't been very good\" (their words, not mine. I was happy with the service!), those items would not be charged to my card. I paid for the drinks, checked out, and went about my day. About two hours later I git a call from the hotel, and was told that I would have to pay for the food items. I told them that I had been told that there would be no charge for these, as that is what I was told when I checked out. I repeated this information twice more, and the call ended. Ten minutes later, the same person called again, and we had the same conversation. I was not happy about this at all, and ended the call after again explaining the situation. I have not heard back since, but I have not been left with a very positive experience of this hotel.

Never Again

Started with over a 5 minute wait before someone appeared to check us in, went up to room which was like an oven as there was no AC and the windows were closed. Went into the bathroom and lifted the toilet seat which promptly fell on the floor, I had to secure the 'bolts' back in. The bathroom had an odd assortment of three different types of shampoo but nothing else apart from 2 plastic cups (see photo). Their was coffee and a couple of different types of tea bags, but no biscuits and we had to sleep with the window open which was very noisy due to the traffic on the A1M. Breakfast was chaos, waiting around for food/coffee/juice to come out to the buffet, I felt sorry for the two ladies working their as they were totally rushed off their feet and really doing their best, in fact the hotel should be grateful to them for their efforts. When we left the hotel there was no one at the desk again to mention all of this and so we simply left the keys on the counter. The whole experience was bad from start to finish and we will certainly not be staying there again nor recommending it to friends.

Hand basin tap can only be used on low as it was too powerful for the small sink and flooded. The night we stayed was particularly hot. No air con in rooms and no fans available, that made for a bad nights Sleep.

Missing Shower

I booked this room for a colleague attending an important meeting the following day.

The reviews were good and images were equallyvas goid so felt like a good choice. I was majorly disappointed and embarrassed to find out that there was no shower in the room as it had been taken away along with the shower screen.

Having checked in kate due to travelling my colleague raised the concern butbwas told there was nothing that could be done as there were no spare rooms.

A room the following morning was made available for a shower.

I find this really disappointing, if id booked a budget hotel id expect a lesser standard.

I think the fairest solution to be a full refund from the hotel.

I await your response.

Good location to get to North Mymms Park for a wedding. The stay included a breakfast. Room had a kettle in the room which was nice. Hairdryer in the cupboard and few mirrors which was good. The room did get hot at night as no air conditioning.

Stayed for 2 nights. Just dropped our bags in the room which was fine then headed downstairs for a drink and a meal. The food in the restaurant for an evening meal was mediocre to say the least. Starters that were hot enough to burn your mouth, mini spring rolls,think McDonald's apple pie, and pasta that was cold. The bathroom was just awful though. Mouldy walls and ceiling and paint flaking off the ceiling! Complained next day and we were moved to a different room which was better but can't believe they actually put us in there in the first place. Having said that though that the staff were very helpful despite there being so few of them and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommend the breakfasts. Finally a chef that knows how to poach an egg properly! Had it not been for the bathroom would definitely have recommended the hotel.

The hotel was near Hatfield House so the location was ideal.
Our room, 114 was very large but the bed only had 1 very thin pillow each and was not very comfortable.
The bathroom needed updating and the shower flooded the floor.
The staff were friendly but there weren’t enough of them so there was a long wait for breakfast and our porridge arrived at the same time as our cooked breakfast.

Having stayed at the hotel numerous times now I can say that most rooms need new mattresses, the breakfast is good and has good selection, staff are friendly. If they would refurbish the rooms it would be a lot nicer for the price as everything is quite old.

The hotel itself looked ok.....that was until I started walking down the corridor to my room. The smell is unbelievably bad, I can only think that there must be a very very bad damp situation. It was pretty gross to be honest with you. The carpets were covered in massive stains and the shower wasn't particularly clean either. The staff however were really really friendly and helpful.

The first staff I dealt with had poor customer service skills. She looked like she didn’t want to be there, looked like she was forced !! If you don’t want to work please don't simple! I complained about how the room had a weird smell and the bed sheets had stains .. she was reluctant to move me .. but moved me to the room next door. Although it had the same smell I was reluctant to complain again as I did not want to be called a “Karen”!! The room was worse than the one before.. as the towels had yellow stains on them, the shower and bath gels had been used, the bath mat had been covered by a towel on the rail (it looked filthy), the bath had mould marks around, The floor had hair near the toilet and the sink, both the quilt and the bed had hair on them. The floor was not swept as it had mud stains. Instead of cups, plastic cups (similar to those of Costa or Starbucks) were displayed for tea but to make things worse they had been used and washed ( you could literally see the coffee stains on them). The kettle had limescale on the lid like its never been cleaned. I was so scared to have a shower and I couldn’t wait to move to another hotel. I m not making this up and one of my friends was a witness to all... I couldn’t handle it, I therefore booked myself to a more cleaner and reliable hotel for 4 more nights Hatfield as soon as I could. Never again will I ever book this hotel .. its not personal its just poor service. I took pictures as evidence lol

The property was nice at reception but when we went to the room, it smelt of damp, one of the windows did not fully close so to keep the cold out we had to put tissue around it, the carpets are dirty with stains. the bathroom had visible dirt built up around the wall and mould around the bath. There were towels given to us that were once white and no large bath towel size but hand size. 2 towels in total. We asked for more towels and one of the towel had blood on it! We went to ask later for another toilet roll as there was a half used in the room upon arrival- shocking! The soap dish had rust on it.
The staff made no effort, poor customer service and quite arrogant. I would not recommend.

Breakfast Daylight Robbery!!

Disappointing - The hotel booking was made to include breakfast at a cost of £10 per night, no communication from the hotel existed and when we arrived we were told about the menus being on QR codes.... Breakfast / Main Meals and Wine etc
Evening meal was very limited, we chose to eat out else where which was fine, in the morning came down expecting breakfast to find that they were offering a bag to go breakfast and no hot option. I mentioned to the member of staff this was not what was said on check in or online when booked (even prior communications... which didnt exist) and they just ignored it!
They explained really well how to leave your room, however the comforts you expect in a hotel was lacking

The manager was over the top and to be honest rather annoying in the end, i was expecting a rather normal stay as stated on their website but just found them using COVID19 as a excuse not to complete a full operation as they were at over 50% full

When i asked for a refund of the breakfast costs which £10 for a bag and go breakfast of which i wouldnt eat i was told that i couldn't and the hotel took no responsibility for the poor customer service! I shall not be returning... thankfully mecures are normally alot better

I get covid effects every business, this one hasnt mastered the customer service part of getting it right... if your not offering breakfast dont charge for it!!

poor to be frank.

I know things are in a bit if a quandary, but not having someone being able to sort out your room is disappointing. I’ve been a key worker travels all over the UK and rooms were still cleaned. To be told no one will clean , change towels is poor. Then you have to bag all your linen your self and strip off you bed and put in a black sack.

If other hotels can deal with the current issues I can’t see why this one can’t.

This hotel is old and run down. The room had a strange smell, carpet was dirty and the limescale on shower door was disgusting. The most annoying thing was the shower pipes next door was so loud it woke me up hours before i needed to get up.
Restaurant staff lovely and food was nice but the hotel is not worth the price.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel was in a bit of a run-down state with every big stain on the carpet in my room and the bed wasn’t as comfortable as I would like. The location was great. I had breakfast and dinner in the hotel a couple of times and the weaseling very good. I would stay there again because I felt that the staff made up for the rundown character of the hotel!

Hotel and staff were just okay. I would not recommend staying here on a hot day. There is no air-con (our fault, we should have checked beforehand). There were no fans available and as we were given a room on the ground floor, we didn't feel safe leaving the window open overnight. Also there was a leak where water was somehow coming through the floor, no idea where it was coming from!

The staff were all helpful and polite.
It’s not a bad hotel, it’s just very tired.
The rooms are basic but clean, apart from the sealant on the bath which was mouldy and there were stains on the carpet. I found the mattress very uncomfortable, it was lumpy and on its last legs.
The breakfast was very basic.
Overall this is not as good standard as say a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn.

not my first stay at this hotel and I will come back again. My bug bear is that a very good breakfast had no hot plates available so what started as a hot breakfast ended up luke warm by the time I started to eat.Hot food should be served on hot plates. This comment is for a large amount of hotel I stay in - purchase a plate warmer and locate by the food counter.

Overall wasn't a bad hotel. Friendly welcome and although i had a standard room it wasn't too bad. However some things let it down where budget hotels do things better. Towels too small. Pillows were not comfy and mattress could have been better. I expect more from Mercure when I've stayed in Ibis with better beds.

Food ok but bought in pizza bases are again something I'd expect in budget not higher end hotels.

Well run hotel with great staff just off the A1

Handy stop before early visit in to London. Very handy, just off the A1, in a quiet location near the University. Check-in quick & easy and room was very spacious and comfortable with good wi-fi. We ate in the bar area which had good variety at reasonable prices. Staff were very attentive, especially Bhuvan who really made us welcome and came over to the table when either of us were near the bottom of our glass. Really nice guy who couldn't be more helpful. Will certainly stay again if in the area.

In reception you could unfortunately smell what they were prepping in the kitchen so it smelt a bit of fish in the air when we first arrived. But the rooms and staff were fantastic!
There is nothing really in walking distance so you will have to eat here (the food looked really good though) unless you want to drive.
Overall I would recommend and stop again without any issues

After a long day of driving all we wanted was a good night's sleep. Once in the room my wife went to close the window to find it closed ( there was a gap large enough for 2x 50 pence pieces and a pound coin laid on top of each other to fit into) so all road traffic noise was coming through and it being next to a main trunk road it never went quiet
My wife tried hanging a towel on the hook on the back of the bathroom door but the hook simply came away from the door showing the many times the hook had bleed screwed to the thin plywood. AVOID ROOM 223 I can't comment on other rooms but if this is the standard then it is very low

It was the remote location of the hotel (considering it's proximity to the motorway) which let it down. There was nowhere else to go for a meal or drink unless you want to get back in the car and drive so we had to pay their prices which were naturally slightly inflated as they had no competition.

Checkin was easy and quick and the room was nice and clean but thats about it.

Fire alarm went off twice during the night caused my wife and I to have little sleep followed by a 5 hour drive to Newcastle.

We asked to speak to the manager the following morning was told there was no manager, the receptionist never said they were sorry or could they help, we emailed manager nearly a week on no reply, we emailed mecure complaints directly and no reply either. What terrible service!

Modern hotel in central Hatfield

We only stayed for one night after my daughter's wedding.

It was a modern hotel. Very helpful staff, large clean rooms. The lobby was being refurbished but this didn't effect our stay. Large open lobby. We slept very well on comfortable large beds. We were on the ground floor. The staff helped us book a local taxi.

During the Heatwave

Good breakfast, pleasant staff, clean although a little care worn room. Bed too hard for my liking but the major drawback was the lack of airconditioning as we happened to stay during the week in June 2018 which saw an extraordinary heatwave. The room facing west was like a sauna.

The hotel was fine. Nothing outstanding. I felt our room could do with a maintenance overhaul, there was a smel when you walked in and the carpet was stained. Just needs a bit of attention. Looking tired overall. Staff were very friendly and obliging though.

Clean, modern, stylish and excellent value

This hotel was a pleasure to rest in. Very clean rooms, comfortable bed and up to date plumbing. The restaurant seems to have a healthy and varied menu and the staff were very helpful. I'll be back!

deffo not a hotel for ocassional holidays, this is grubby , messy, tatty and just a bit nasty to be honest , room is soooooooo dated

Mecure Oak Hatfield

I have used this hotel before however on this occasion I could not get comfortable in the bed and as a result struggled to sleep.
What was really disappointing was the WIFI, or as I should probably say was how poor the wifi was. Even trying to watch a video on Netflix which i something that I am normally able to do in other Hotels simple wasn't possible. The signal kept dropping off and in the end I gave up!

Nice hotel

I had booked a wheelchair adapted room and initially was shown to a suite, here I could not even anter the bathroom. We were then moved to a wheelchair adapted room which was adequate but a little cramped. We were not impressed with the restaurant as there was only one vegetarian option on the menu at dinner. Hotel was clean, but needs to be some improvements made - probably some staff training, especially regarding guests with a disability.
