The staff were all so lovely and made our stay very enjoyable. The room was always cleaned on days we required and the staff were very happy to work around our timing. The restaurant staff and entertainment was great. We had a great stay and will definitely be back with our children to stay in the Rarotongan side. Thank you all for making our honeymoon that extra special.

Loved my stay here!! It was so tranquil and cool to have The Rarotongan next door for games and a busier atmosphere.
Loved the amenities being right outside the rooms to take straight into the beach. There were so many activities each day there’s something for everyone. The staff were amazing - shoutout to Mark and Akuela. I’ll definitely be back. Meitaki

This resort is in desperate need of a renovation, the staff seem to be lost, and there is not much else nearby. First of all, they took a very long time to process my initial payment although it was shown as “paid”. Then, I had exchanged numerous e-mails explaining to them that we needed a downstairs beachfront suite due to my partner’s mobility issue. They had assured me that we would be given a downstairs beachfront suite. Upon arrival late at night we were given an upstairs suite and when I protested they eventually gave us a beachfront suite but on the far side of the resort away from the beach, while they kept handing the best downstairs beachfront suites to other couples that were arriving as we waited. The pool of the Sanctuary was not worth visiting and we did not use it during our stay. The food was basic and the general state of the resort was run down. Stay somewhere else like in the Muri Bay Area which has better accommodation and more things to do nearby.

Great location, right on the beach with excellent snorkelling with tons of fish. Really comfy sun loungers. Can help yourself to kayaks right on the beach. Snorkels and flippers are provided in your room. You need to walk thru reception to get to the Rarotongan now, but that gives you great sunset views from the bar/restaurant there. Food options are same at both sites.

I liked that the bes was comfy, large and a range of pillows to suit. The shower was excellent with good pressure. Loved the air con and then heat pump when needed. I didnt like that it was cashless as we brought quite a bit of cash but not a big deal. Some rubbish was accidenly left in our room on check in ~ also not big deal. The biggest let down was the wifi. We needed this to find things to do on the island and for map location. It would constantly drop off. This really does need to be sorted. We would come back as staff were awesome but wifi seriously needs looking at.

We throughly enjoyed our stay at the sanctuary, a couple of small things i would change is the music! It is on loop 1 album the whole time and food was not consistent but mostly good.
Also wifi needs to be inclusive in price even if it is a small amount. Overall was our favorite place to stay!

Awesome stay, absolutely beautiful location and the lagoon being right there is INCREDIBLE. Amazing snorkelling right outside your room, saw rays and awesome fish (someone saw a turtle but we did not).
Absolutely would recommend, staff are lovely and a pleasure to chat to. Swim up bar is awesome and perfect way to cool off.

The Sanctuary could be a great place to stay but it is not a luxury Resort. We had an issue with our room not being what we had requested, and this was promptly sorted by the Reservatios lady, maybe because several other members of our group had better rooms or maybe when I questioned why I had an ash tray in my non smoking room and why was my neighbour continuously smoking on the balcony next to ours which meant we could not go outside. Unfortunately several of us encountered exceptionally rude staff on the Reception Desk. The food was mostly good, but breakfast was always lacking either no bread, no cheese/meat, no cups, no teabags there wasnt one morning where we didn't have to request something. We were definitely 2nd place to The Rarotongan. The pool is a nice area, but smoking is openly allowed at this resort which was extremely unpleasant. This was my 3rd time in Raro, 1st time at The Sanctuary, I really missed the happy fun loving Rarotongans, the staff at The Sanctuary just did not seem happy at all. Previous experience at The Edgewater has been warm, engaging staff who were happy to help but at this resort everything seemed to be too much trouble. However at The Sanctuary the Ground staff and cleaners were always friendly and helpful. Overall we had an amazing time but that was more to do with the occasion we were there for and sadly due to the lack of warmth and engagement we went outside of The Sanctuary for food and entertainment.

Great stay, perfect beachfront room and being adults only on the side we stayed on, relaxing and quiet.
Service was good but relaxed. Swim up bar, well kept facility, a range of bars and restaurants within the complex, fins, goggles and snorkel provided for the lagoon.

We enjoyed the adult only stay. The cocktail and bar staff were amazing special Sake. Areas which were a little disappointed was the breakfast buffet. For the price we believe that it was not value for money. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the facilities / beach equipment that were available to us. We’ve just come back from there. It’s the only place we’ve stayed in Raro so can’t compare. Plusses - room was great - clean with a super comfy bed, brill shower, our own snorkelling gear which we used to access what we understand to be the best snorkelling just metres from the beach. There was also free access to kayaks and SUPs. We had a beach room on the ground floor and it was amazing to lounge outside the bedroom looking at the sea through the trees, and on windy days lounge by the pool. There is a games room with Pool, table soccer and table tennis which provided us daily competition with each other. Staff were awesome, lovely and fun. Cocktails were yummy. Food was average, both price and quality. It was certainly a step up in quality of furnishings and fittings from the Rarotongan next door. You get access to their amenities, but they weren’t much cop. The gym machines in particular were very dated and clunky, and there was no real room to do any floor work. Our only downer were the tropical breakfasts - not much choice, bad coffee and UHT milk only. I would give that a body swerve and try and cut a deal with cooked breakfasts which were so much better.

The property looks a bit on the tired side, with the tennis court in need of singificant maintenance, the beach is washing away and exposing the palms, the cages of rocks supposed to be protecting the beach and the creek are rusted and broken.

The breakfast buffet is the same every day, and the variety is fairly limited.

Surprised too that at a resort on the water, we were not able to change the flippers left in our room to a larger size. According to the Activities hut there was no spare XL fins to swap for the Medium pair.

Both check-in and checking out were problematic. In the case of checking in, we were giving the keys to an occupied unit and surprised the guests there when we unlocked the door. This was rectified with another room and a free cocktail.

And our request the day before for check out for a later time was not logged, so that we had to wait nervously before it was confirmed with the member of staff we'd spoken to.

Absolutely loved our stay at The Sanctuary. We were a bit worried as we’d seen some bad reviews for this place but it must have had an overhaul because it was great. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely with everything working and everything we needed. It was nice and quiet and private. The private beach is great for snorkelling. They have so many activities happening and kayaks/snorkelling gear to use. The pool was awesome especially the swim up bar. Cocktails were yummy. Food was so good with large portions. Anything we needed the staff were happy to help. We will definitely be back if we visit Rarotonga again! Thanks for the lovely stay.

This hotel is tired, old and in need of an upgrade. The service is poor... i waited 3 hours for food one day and 1 hour for fresh towels. There are so many other beautiful hotrls on the island that you would think the raratongan woould step up... it doesnt. Friends of mine arrived to a dirty room that they then had to wait another r hours before checking in. Ultimately, id never stay here again.

The let down was the reception staff - from poor check-in process and communication was downright rude. When we dropped off our bags for early check-in we were told to just leave behind the bar at Sanctuary and didn't get any tags. On proper check-in they only asked for my passport despite having 2 separate rooms but later on during our stay one of the staff noticed the other guests in the gift shop and interrogated us about the number of guests. She later demanded that we come back with the other passports. We realised the receptionist didn’t put our card on file so we had to pay directly with our credit card every time we purchased from the restaurant or bar; so again had to go back to sort this out with the reception staff. Finally, when we asked for the reception staff to lend us towels for our snorkelling trip they wouldn’t accommodate us at all and when one of our guests was feeling cold, I asked for a blanket as there were none in the cupboards - again the receptionist was not cooperative until I begged / pleaded and she finally sent someone to our room to provide the blanket. Reception staff need to be re-trained and customer service needs to improve!

We have visited this property 6 times. This time was the worst time ever. The rooms were not cleaned properly. They ran out of soap and shampoo. No clean cups or glasses done daily. Rubbish bins only cleaned every other day. Before dinner was brought to you, but now you have to go fetch your own meal from the kitchen. So service was actually non existent. Very sad because we always came back here but going forward we will not be returning.

This adults only hotel is part of the Rarotongan and uses the same kitchen. Sometimes the bar by the pool was closed and had to go stand in line at the oother pool bar for about 15 mins. Check in staff were downright rude. Arrived at 2pm was bluntly told check in is at 3pm , I was basically given the option of waiting in the lobby , was not told I could go to pool or if there were facilities to change into my swim trunks just.check in was 3pm. When I did check in was not even told how to get to the Sanctuary part of the hotel. Was a complete joke. Needed a taxi for the night but knew front desk would be unhelpful. I even called on the day before to arrange a airport pickup but nobody picked up for the three times I called. The lagoon is great and can be accessed by public beach.

Loved our stay here.. food was fantastic.. our beach front room was clean and cosy.. blackout drapes were terrific.. would definitely stay again!! Beach is nicer towards the Rarotongan side of the resort.. overall would highly recommend
