Air conditioning in main room missing. No instructions on how to use range top. Owner on vacation and nobody was shown how to work it. So we really couldn’t cook on it. When I got it to work after 10 minutes it shut off.

Property and room are cute. Staff are friendly and helpful. Extremely convenient to be able to rent a vehicle from the property.

Aside from the friendly service and great amenities, the property did not exceed in individual guest service and villa maintenance. I booked a king bed villa yet my villa was setup as 2 twin beds in preparation for the guests who arrive after me, as explained by management. I expected the property to prepare for my stay before the next guest after me. The bathtub for my villa did not hold water. This was a known issue but not repaired before my stay. This amenity was a part of the reason I booked but I wa unable to enjoy this in my room.

Lovely smaller accommodation with the friendliest staff thinkable. You get a spacious room with a gorgeous bed and outdoor shower (none indoors but you don’t really have to with the weather). You get decent kitchen wear so you can cook yourself (2 induction pits) and a good toaster and coffee maker.
Only downside for us was that they don’t have an onsite restaurant so you have to get groceries for breakfast, or any other meal, if you don’t want to go out. There are two restaurants close by (2 to 10 min walk) that offer lunch and dinner but they are not open all days. I would recommend getting a car so you can get to places to eat or swim as the reef right in front of the accommodation is nice but it doesn’t leave room to swim. The onsite pool however makes up for that too.

Loved the hosts most of all. They put you to ease and at home as soon as you walk in. Our room number on the front reception board had all our names and a printed personalised memo in our room of the things to know about the premises and house. The villas are artistically built and for someone like me, I could just sit and admire the construction for hours. Beach and swimming pool were awesome and the fact that the pool is open all night long was the best thing ever for us to cool off late in the night as many hotels/motels forget that it’s not practical often to be in a pool during the day due to strong sun. So much thought has been put in almost everything - the pool depicting a 16th century ship, its mast used as comms tower, it stern hosting a small viewing area along with a shallow pool (deeper pool further in). The villas have practical, aesthetically pleasing and ergonomically thought-out layout. Large fridge, free ice from nearby icemaker and the welcoming fruit platter made us all fall in love at first sight.

Nothing I can fault them on. Although they have spared no expense in installing rather high-end expensive hardware ie hinges and door locks, the door locks are easily damaged and hard operate but with the place so safe, and with the owners around asking if you if you need anything else several times in a day, you don't need all that security either anyway ;)

Best stay ever for me and my family to date. Can't wait to visit again!

We rented e-bikes and were able to get to town, dive shop and snorkling reefs just fine. I felt safe waking and biking along the roadsThere are 6 good restaurants within walking distance (15 min). Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bungalos are clean and well maintained. I enjoyed the garden, bungalo porch and beachfront hammock.

We found Magic Reef to be an absolutely ideal resort property. The bungalows are very well designed and appointed and each has a view of the beach. The gardens are beautifully maintained and the waterfront gazebo and deck area was a lovely place to spend time watching the waves crash on the reef in the distance. Cars were available for rent on site which was very convenient and there were restaurants within walking distance along the beach - how great is it to walk along a sand beach to a table overlooking a Raro sunset? Magic Reef shows great pride of ownership and the staff is super helpful. There are three new beautiful bamboo bungalows with more than one bedrooms just being finished in the same design - which build on your vision of what a South Pacific ideal vacation place would be. You simply won’t find a nicer place on Raro.

Lovely well equipped bungalows on the west side of the island. Good location. Clockwise and Anticlockwise bus runs past resort every 30 mins I think it is. Or you can hire a car or scooter. Nothing is far. Our bungalow was closest to the beach. Balcony with sun lounges. Comfy bed. Free wifi was a bonus. Filtered water and ice free for guests. Nice pool and outdoor area. Beach unfortunately isn’t for swimming due to the reef scattered through it and the shallowness. I walked out to the breakers one day at low water, was good. They also have snorkel gear and reef shoes free for guests to use. Lawrence and Simonne are excellent, and will help with anything you need, also Jayne is there in the office as well, she can hook you up with anything needed. They also have electric hire cars and bikes. It’s a very relaxing place to be. You can do a lot, or you can just relax in a sun chair and do nothing. We had an outdoor shower and sunken bath at the rear of our bungalow, brilliant idea. We will definitely be visiting again.

Hidden gem. Felt like a home away from home. The local staff were very friendly. Pool was lovely. Perfect sunset location. Very quiet, boutique experience. Amazing to fall asleep to the waves. The cabins were superb offering an authentic Polynesian experience with unique outdoor bathrooms.

Only negative was not good for snorkelling or swimming straight off the beach. However just jump on some hire scooters, or catch an bus and pop down the road for Amazing snorkelling experiences.

The location also offered hire EVs and electric bikes. Also free snorkeling gear.

My husband and I had a fabulous holiday at the beautiful Magic Reef Bungalows. The bungalows have every amenity (including reliable wifi) and are incredibly comfortable. The gardens, pool and beach front are immaculately maintained with gorgeous views, especially at sunset. Lawrence and Simone were welcoming and happy to help with anything we needed. We will definitely be returning with our whole family next year.

Simone and Lawrence have made Magic Reef a unique and wonderful holiday getaway. Bungalows are right on the beach. Excellent ocean view from the deck of our bungalow. Staff and crew are amazing. Electric cars for rent if you don’t want to take the bus that you can catch right up the road. Excellent snorkeling just up the beach and many restaurant options within walking distance. I would highly recommend Magic Reef for your Rarotonga holiday.

This was exactly the high end, casual, accommodation I adore - ie. very high standard of lodging (comfortable bed, beautiful aesthetics, well appointed etc) but without the trappings of most generic hotel rooms (phone in bathroom and next to bed, room service etc. Instead it was glorious to stay in a place with only 7 other bungalows and consequently have the pool and beach almost exclusively for my partner and I.

E-bikes, snokeling gear, ice, bbq, hire car and so much more always available. Just perfect given my preference for simple, elegant and beautiful.

This is not a 'I had a wonderful holiday' rave - I am comparing it with many resorts around the world. I would recommend unless you are looking for a place with a lobby, bar and lots of other people.

Magic Reef is an exceptionally well-managed property which is handy to both the airport and the town. The traditional-style property sits on a beautiful section of the lagoon. The bungalows are spacious and have all the modern conveniences - air conditioning, courtyard shower and bath, kitchenette. The grounds are immaculate, with a great pool and bbq.
But what really sets the property apart is the service provided by the friendly family who own and operate the hotel. Lawrence is more than happy to help with any request and his provision of a small fleet of Electric Vehicles on-site is a great way to get around an island where taxis are super-expensive! There were also extra little gifts and touches like homemade bread and orange juice in the refrigerator.
When we travel we are fortunate to almost always stay at 5-star resorts. Magic Reef in every respect provided the comfort and service we enjoy.
We would have given 6 stars if we could.

We had the most marvelous vacation at Magic Reef. The views from our bungalow was great!! Gillian and Lawrence really went out of their way for us a number of times. They are some of the nicest host and are so friendly. I have never had resort owners get so involved to making sure your experience is going to be special. We were there 2 weeks and by the time we felt we all felt like close friends. On aspect of the resort that made it perfect for us is that it was an adult only resort. It was so peaceful and that was exactly what I wanted from this vacation. If we wanted action that are plenty of restaurants with live music and dancing. Many walking distance. This will not be the last time I vacation at Magic Reef.

Our bungalow was exactly what we were hoping for! It was clean and very private. We loved the Polynesian architecture and touches throughout the bungalow. The owners and the manager, Gillian, were very welcoming and helpful. We rented the eBikes and road around the island. The beach is not for swimming but that is pretty hit or miss around the island. There were very good places to eat within walking distance (on the beach). We would definitely return to Magic Reef!

We stayed for 9 nights. Our bungalow was second back from the beach. Upon arriving at 3am we were annoyed as we expected a king size bed and 2 single beds - as noted on ALL the booking sites. Instead there was a king size bed and a very dodgy looking sofa bed which angled down and one could feel the metal bars under the mattress. Over the next 2 days, the accom rectified this, firstly bringing in 1 single bed and then another single bed when we explained our situation. Some breakfast staples were supplied for our first morning and were most adequate. We enjoyed the privacy of the bungalow, the deck lounges and view of the beach. The pool was clean and larger than the pictures online depict. Usually we were the only ones in the pool or on the lounges at the beach. It often felt like we had the property all to ourselves.
There were a couple of minor nuances. Keeping in mind the bungalow sleeps up to 4 people. There were only 2 teaspoons, 2 tablespoons, 2 mugs and 2 dining chairs. We were also annoyed on our second last day when staff expected us to move to a bungalow set further back in order to accommodate new guests arriving who had requested a beachfront bungalow. We had no idea that we had actually been upgraded to a beachfront bungalow in the first place as all bungalows have ocean views. This was very disappointing but we managed to sort it out and stay put.
Overall, we loved our stay here. The location is excellent. We would be happy to stay here again.

On arrival, the staff was friendly and warm, just like Rarotonga itself. There are only 8 bungalows at the moment, each with a view of the lagoon. The beach really is on your doorstep. The rooms were a bit dated but beautifully presented, a huge, comfortable bed and the bathroom sink was a talking piece.
The highlight of the bungalow was the outside shower and bath!!! Such an unexpected addition to the room!

Nothing was too much bother for the friendly staff at Magic Reef (including Magic the dog & Captain the cat - bring some snacks for those guys). We were made to feel comfortable from the word go. Beautiful old-style bamboo bungalows cleverly placed to give great privacy. Fantastic open air bath tub & showers built into the back of each bungalow. Interestingly designed pool for when the sea is at low tide. Great dining, barbecue areas. Peaceful, serene location in well tended gardens.

We had the most amazing stay and Magic Reef Bungalows. The bungalows themselves are gorgeous with magical views across the reef and out to the ocean. The resort is beautifully kept with lovely gardens and pool area. Gillian, Amy and the rest of the staff are outstanding. Perfect Tropical Getaway!

If you want to party, this isn't the place for you. If you want a small, relaxing resort where you are treated like part of the family, Magic Reef is the place to be! We loved the intimate atmosphere and our beautiful room with the gorgeous beach view. It was great being able to sit on the beach and watch the whales right off the reef. The welcome breakfast was so nice after a long day of traveling. Everyone at the resort was very welcoming and helped us with all of our questions. We can't wait to return!

We enjoyed the food plate and drinks in the frig on arrival. In fact, it provided with enough food for 2 mornings. On the 3rd morning we had breakfast at a place just down the road. -- I liked having a pool, since the beach had coral stones. However, I did go to the beach once and into the water with reef shoes on. If you have a car there are several beaches nearby for swimming.

The bungalows are very clean with a nice view of the ocean, but landscaping slows you some privacy while sitting on your deck. Unique construction of bamboo and woven panels gave the bungalows a very warm feeling.

First time in Rarotonga but we left feeling we had thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Amy, Gill and the lovely ladies who did an immaculate job on room service always with a smile. The grounds were very well maintained and pool cleaned to perfection.

Peace and Quiet on the Beach

We had the best time at Magic Reef! The bungalows were clean and spacious with the most amazing outdoor showers and bath/body products. There was a wonderful fruit platter in our room upon our arrival, along with muesli, toast and homemade jam for breakfasts. The property is small, very quiet and the perfect place to relax. We even took a yoga class that they offer twice/week! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay there. We will definitely be returning to Magic Reef when we come back to Rarotonga.

Peaceful retreat

Lovely bamboo constructed huts, self contained with all that you need.
Even a hot bath was welcomed after a day of fishing.
Lovely relaxed property, use of bikes and snorkeling gear available to guests a bonus.
And yoga on Tuesday mornings.
Would love to stay again.

Quiet Sunsets!

We were very happy with our stay here. The bungalows are beyond cute. We loved the staff and the beach. This is the sunset side of the island and they are spectacular. Nice pool and the barbeque is very convenient if you want to make food. Lots of nice restaurants in walking distance. Thanks for the great time Magic Reef!

Great place to stay if you know what your are looking for! Not in a \"tourist heavy\" part of the island so it's quiet. Beautiful views of the sunsets every night. No dining on site, but a well equipped kitchenette. Walking distance to multiple restaurants (I recommend The Pacific Fish and Chip Shop and Beluga). During our stay the old owners (Simon and Angela) transitioned out and new owners took over. Both were great! New owner Amy was super helpful and seemed to really care that we were enjoying our stay! Nancy in the office was GREAT! So knowledgeable about Rarotonga and a delight to deal with.

very restful

We stayed there for 6 days. Your right at the beach, nice sitting area to watch the waves roll in, or do it from your own patio. liked all the palm trees around the property. They had free snorkelling gear for us to use. Bungalows were very comfortable. lots of parking if you rent a car. The outdoor shower and tub were nice.Very good sleep on the bed. Beautiful sunsets. Every local met were very friendly to us.

A refreshing change from the usual

Magic Reef Bungalows is extremely well thought out, managed, and staffed, adult-oriented vacation destination with very high repeat business - even in the low and shoulder seasons. Why? Because they have created the perfect environment for adult-oriented, self sufficient travelers seeking a quiet and relaxing get-away. Magic Reef decided not to have the \"usual\" beach-bar and/or pool-bar or children. They don't even allow large groups to book (unless they book all bungalows). This allows all of their guests to enjoy a quiet and relaxing environment. A rarity in the growing trend of owners opting for revenue-generating bars at he expense of their guest's peace and tranquility. The current owners, as well as their staff, made our visit to Rarotonga one of our most memorable and enjoyable travel experiences. They were all so engaged and helpful in maximizing our Cook Islands experience - whether it be recommendations for restaurants, shopping, scuba diving, hiking, snorkeling, day trips to Aitutaki, or cultural events. Thank you for such a great experience. We hope to be back soon!

Definitely be back

My husband and I spent 4 nights at magic reef resort in room no. 2 which was right by the ocean. Room had everything you needed. Views from the room were amazing. We did a bit of snorkeling in the lagoon which was nice and swam in the lovely pool a few times too. Staff were lovely and very helpful. No request was too much for them. Loved the welcome fruit platter. We will definitely be back.

Best little spot on Raro !

We had a fantastic week at this magical spot !
It exceeded our expectations in all areas. Magic reef is a very special place. Felt extremely relaxed and at peace there. The stand alone bungalows were awesome, each perfectly positioned to get a view of the reef. The outdoor bath and showers were fantastic, and each unit was well equipped for our stay.
The staff, Simon, Angela ,Nancy & Casper the dog were amazing , they truly went the extra mile for everything, we felt so welcome.

Wonderful! The staff drove us places on the island, helped guide us with taking the bus, snorkeling sites, restaurants, and it was easy to meet other guests for day adventures, since it is a smaller resort.

Idyllic retreat, welcoming host

Lovely bungalow on the beach. Nancy, the manager, was the kindest, most helpful host of any place we've ever stayed. She knew the island very well and helped us find the best places to go. The bungalow was great - especially liked the outdoor shower. Sunsets were beautiful. It was special to be on such a gorgeous and quiet beach.
It was a short drive (or bus ride) to the best snorkeling beach on the island.

The Magic reef bungalows were absolutely amazing. The staff were awesome and ever so helpful, the facilities were efficient and very clean. We especially loved the outdoor feel of the bath and shower. The location was ideal, close to the airport and yummy restaurants. Bonus that we were able to swim/snorkel just off the beach. The weather was always so beautiful on this side of the island as well. This made our trip that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place and look forward to staying again in the future!

Beautiful peaceful setting

This is a lovely resort with only 9 bungalows, all with a view of the sea. It was peaceful, private and quiet, just what we needed! is close to many other amenities. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The bungalow was very comfortable, large king size bed with beautiful carvings and private outdoor shower and bath, which we really enjoyed.
The gardens are beautifully laid out and maintained.

Great accommodation so close to the ocean. No effort is required to relax, just stroll down the garden path to the beach - pristine sand, comfortable chairs of various styles to relax in and enjoy the scenery, read a book or take a nap. Great swimming pool, short stroll to many great restaurants. The bungalows are comfortable and spacious and the outside shower and bath were a wonderful indulgence. Great staff who are happy to assist in any way possible. Excellent complimentary first day breakfast in accordance with local culture. The perfect place to relax.

We came to Magic Reef for our Honeymoon. Form the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, Angela and Simon, Amy all of the Magic Reef Crew made us feel welcome, comfortable and entertained. The bungalows were clean and modern, they have everything we needed for self-catering, the outdoor shower was great. The amenities were always working and in good order. We felt like we had the place to ourselves, even though it was completely sold out. Magic Reef is located in a great spot, perfect for sunsets. Close to so many restaurants and bars, you just need to explore a little. They have everything you need or want, and are available whenever you need them. Service was awesome and highly recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful place to stay

Very nice bungalow with many amenities - the kitchenette had a coffee press, coffee, tea and kettle. There were full sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the outdoor shower, which I loved, so no need to bring your own. Snorkel gear and water shoes are available free for use, and bicycles and scooters can be rented on the premises. Beautiful sunsets on the west-facing beach and really cool tide pools at low tide. The owners are very nice and accommodating. We loved our stay in the beautiful Cook Islands!

Individual island themed bungalows

Magic Reef bungalows was everything we hoped for during our stay in Rarotonga. Situated on the west side of the island, with pristine white sand , good swimming and beautiful sunsets. The in-ground pool is the perfect place to cool down and is well maintained and spotlessly clean. The individual bungalows allow privacy and quiet with an island flavour. The private out door shower was a nice surprise and the air conditioning made our stay comfortable. The staff at Magic Reef are extremely helpful and flexible. They also transported us to places on the island free of charge when required. We were also able to hire scooters and bicycles on-site for our own adventures! I will definitely be back to stay and highly recommend this accommodation to other travellers.

Truly a Gem!

The Magic Reef was such a great find for us...we were ending a long trip in the Cook Islands for some R&R and the Magic Reef was The perfect spot. I can't say enough about the owners and their team- they are wonderful; so welcoming and accommodating, you feel well taken care of!
We will definitely return and would highly recommend MR to couples looking for a South Pacific vacation.

Quiet & Relaxing

Very relaxing holiday just what we needed to unwind. Spent most of the time relaxing by the pool or on the beach deck.
Right on the beach, lagoon is ok for snorkeling but best at high tide as it's a bit shallow otherwise. No bar or restaurant which we new going in but not a problem as there's a few in walking distance and it keeps this resort quiet and peaceful. The room was well appointed, the structure and layout in-keeping with island theme in the bamboo frame and woven wall panels.
