Lovely friendly staff, the room had a lovely deck that was sheltered and right on the beach, cooking facilities were handy, good pressure on the shower. The bed wasn’t that comfortable and the pillows weren’t that good and smelt musty. Overall we had a lovely stay at this property, it’s not over crowed and very relaxed.

The restaurant I can’t fault. It had a lovely atmosphere and nice food.

The rooms though had the most uncomfortable beds. The double bed was an old intersprung that was hard and you felt the springs. So was one of the single beds. Luckily the other single bed was comfortable so I use that so I could get some sleep. The room needed a good dust around the lamps and table. Half the lights didn’t work -inside and out. The ceiling fans only worked on one speed. They must have a problem with ants as they give you a container to store your food. Good idea if it didn’t have a hole in it. We just used the microwave.

The property is showing is age and it looks old and tired.
The location of a bar adjacent to rooms means the chances of an early sleep are limited. The venue although somehow has previously been rated as 4 stars is closer to 2/3. For the price there are far better options available within the immediate area so I would encourage others to explore there options before booking here.

One of the best spots on the beach. Views are beautiful. Loved watching the whales while having breakfast. Rooms are comfortable clean and spacious. Facilities great for relaxing, kayaking, paddle boarding watching the whales and safe swimming/ snorkeling. Entertainment with great varied live music each evening. Handy for the bus. Staff were friendly, helpful and interested in your day.

The manager and staff at Aro’a were absolutely wonderful. Lisa, the manager went well above and beyond what we expected in terms of service and helpfulness. The room was great, with amazing views. The place was very clean and tidy, both in our room and in the remainder of the resort. The food at The Shipwreck hut was brilliant and we loved seeing the whales playing in the ocean.

Staff were very welcoming and it felt like you were staying with family. The bar (Shipwreck Hut) was awesome with a lot of hilariously posters dotted all around the walls and ceiling.
You were literally right on the beach overlooking the lagoon too.
I would definitely recommend the Aroa Beach Side Resort.

We love this place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and about 40 yards from the ocean. The Shipwreck Hut restaurant is on the property next to the beach. Tried the ika mata, Cook Islands version of poisson cru. So ono! Saw some kina ( sea urchins) and a blue starfish while snorkeling right in front of the hotel. There’s also hammocks and a nice swimming pool. The staff are really friendly and helpful. 100% recommended. Will stay again. The restaurant has lots of memorabilia from Hawaii, especially Lahaina.

Okay, so a review on the Aro’a Beachfront Resort. Simply said, it was an excellent place to stay in every way. Some details follow;

First, the staff and management are friendly and helpful. If you have any question about anything, just go into the office and ask. They will fill you in on tour opportunities, bus schedules, restaurants, and anything else you might want to know.

The rooms - I read one review that criticized the curtains. Really? So the curtains are somewhat old but are clean and function perfectly as, well, curtains. Everything else in the room is above par. The refrigerator/freezer, kitchen area, beds, shower, bathroom; everything is perfectly clean and functional.

The restaurant- the Shipwreck Hut is located right on site. It has a limited but very sufficient menu. The food is plentiful. It says a lot that every night the place fills up with visitors not staying at the Aro’a but coming in to eat.

The restaurant deck is also where the continental brekkie is hosted. It is a small breakfast but coffee, cereal, bread and some fruit was a good start for the day. Also note that in season you can see whales breaching right from the deck.

A few times a week they have music on the deck. The music ranges from okay to edging toward excellent. It is important that if you don’t like noise you should ask during your booking to have a room away from the deck. I was right next to it and actually enjoyed it. The crowds get loud!

The beach bar menu was limited in selection of food. The TV in room did not work properly. 3 channels of snow. Even if it did work it was tiny and 6 feet above the floor. Lounge chairs in unit very uncomfortable. All units came with built in alarms. The roosters crowed from dawn to dusk. Five stars plus for the staff, grounds and location.

Spent 2 weeks in Rarotonga and the week at Aroa beachside was the highlight hard to summarise as so much to commend, the snorkelling just outside the resort was great, watching the whales breach at breakfast unforgettable, the room was spacious clean and comfy. The hosts Steve and Geraldine and their staff so helpful and informative, the music nights the best on the island and can Steve sing AWSOME...highly recommend. Will be going back.☺️👍☺️

dislike - the property is very dated, the likes of bedspread had holes and various patches, sheets stained, grey towels, and curtains that offered no privacy at all.
- the bed must have been at least 15 years old as is sagged and you could feel all the springs.

Room ok but would have been nice to have air con. No replenising of soap or milk. Would've been nice to have had instant coffee sachets instead of just filter coffee.
For an adults only resort they don't seem to let their guests have fun.....only just went 10pm & we were told to quiet down even though there were only three couples in the entire resort. We were rudely told our guests had to leave....not happy!! More like a retirement than an adults only resort!!
Was much better 13 years ago before it changed ownership. After lots of email corresponfence staff were made aware we were there for a special b'day but they didn't bother to acknowledge it....would've been nice!
Will not be going back or recommending to anyone 😒☹

I enjoyed my stay at Aroa Beachside Inn very much. The location is right next to the beach and my unit had an excellent view of the beach and the ocean, as well as views in the other direction to the mountains of Rarotonga. The complex is small, so there aren't many other guests (though everyone I met was nice). It's like having your own private beach. Staff members are very kind and helpful. The Shipwreck Bar, located next to the apartments, is great, with excellent food and drinks (all at reasonable prices). The only thing that might be an issue for some people is that there is no air conditioning, and if it is unusually hot, which it was on the day I arrived, the apartment can be quite warm. There are two large ceiling fans, and the ocean breezes help, but this might not be enough for some people. There are some shops nearby, but not a lot of selection within walking distance. To the right when you leave the property (and only a five-minute walk) is a nice, small but well-stocked supermarket with a cafe next door. The island's bus service is good considering the small size of the population and if you hire a car, it is easy to drive to restaurants, shops and attractions. The island is very beautiful and most people are very friendly.

Perfect in Paradise

Just a perfect spot - the hotel is literally right on the beach. The snorkelling here is amazing so we didn't need to go anywhere else. The rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need, including kitchen facilities. Cool little beach bar on site where breakfast is served and they do the most awesome cocktails. Staff are very friendly and made us feel so welcome - nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this place.

Lovely resort and fantastic staff.

We needed some serious downtime and that's what Aroa provided which was great. The no kids policy allowed us to read and snorkel at our leisure and the staff really looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were clean and functional albeit a little noisy close to the road. The bar and entertainment 3 nights a week was good, but the food was only so so forcing you to eat out every night at one of the nearby restaurants which were all of good quality. We saw whales breaching several times and the snorkelling equipment and kayaks were of a fair standard. We were disappointed that the bar closed so early every night but that's the way the Owners Steve and Geraldine want it to ensure it's tranquillity. The tropical breakfasts were again OK but you just want eggs or bacon every now and again. The glass bottom boat tours are all very enjoyable, you must have a FOB at the Mooring café and a Burger at Vili's Burger Joint. All in all a very enjoyable stay if that is the type of trip you are looking for and we would recommend.

Amazing location the snorkelling was the best we have experienced. ( have previously been elsewhere in Raro, Samoa, Vanuatu, Fiji) . The accommodation was very clean, well maintained and comfortable. The best thing about Aroa beachside is the owners and the staff, who made us very welcome. Would definitely recommend a visit.

This place has beautiful gardens, clean large and comfortable rooms. The rooms are serviced daily and are done so top notch!! Excellent location, we had room 6, whilst it was shady it was welcome shade during the day. Access to beach a 'few steps' from the room, best swimming lagoon area of Rarotonga.

Staff very friendly when and give attention when required.
Shipwreck Hut a feature with bar meals only. These were very basic and it was a pity that other similar meals not available during the day. Breakfast(Continentle) excellent and a feature.

Warm and friendly on the beach

Beachside accomodation in a lovely part of Rarotonga . Blue lagoon , palm trees and a bar on the beach oozing character. Steve and Geraldine are exceptional hosts and together with their staff ( Stephanie and Alone to name two ) have created a haven and an immensely welcoming, relaxing, enjoyable place to stay. We had 2 self contained studios for 5 nights. The rooms were well appointed and the beds very comfortable. The bar is the focal point in the evening and is very entertaining on music nights held 3 times a week. Take the hosts advice on Island activities- they know what they're talking about. We'll stay at the Aro'a again no question.

We had a one bedroom beachfront deluxe room. It was four steps to the beach and wonderfully clear lagoon. The room size is generous and the shower works well. Beach towels are provided.
The resort is quiet and relaxing with a nice bar that can be utilized by guests during the day and opens to the public around 5pm each day.
Breakfast of bread for toast,fresh fruit and a muffin is provided each morning along with coffee,tea and juice.
The bus stops directly outside which makes it easy to get around, and the staff are helpful and friendly

The room was clean with all facilities. Only comment is the room we were in was stifling hot (not placed to get any breeze) and the ceiling fan ineffective. Combine this with a hot and humid day, and concrete and wood construction, by night the room was so hot we couldn't cool it. Asked for astand alone fan for the next night which was cheerfully supplied.

They went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable and relaxed holiday , even with challenging dietary requirements .
With good humour , a friendly smile and cheerful banter you couldn't ask for nicer resort to stay in.
The snorkelling straight off the beach and beautiful sunsets make it an idyllic spot to enjoy Rarotonga.
Shipwreck hut is very cool and the Bbq night is great !
Awesome place for a couple to relax and enjoy.

Great Location steps from the beach.

If you are looking for a quiet relaxing fuss free holiday this is the place, dinner menu could be more inviting but there are many excellent eating places a short scooter ride away. Breakfast was adequate, but didnt start till 8.30am so if you were on an early trip it does pay to have something stored in your room. Very friendly helpful staff with all the information on the island and the best ventures. We were happy we chose Aroa Beachfront Inn and I am sure you will be too.

Very nice setting, small scale and friendly

We were delighted with our experience at Aroa Beachside Inn with Friendly and attentive staff and owners who were keen to make sure we had a great time on the island. We were particularly impressed with the layout of the property right by the beach, the 'Shipwreck Hut' social centre and the ease with which one could choose to socialise with others or do our own thing at any time. Evening entertainment on some evenings and food/drinks on-site was a bonus. We enjoyed being able to either cater for ourselves or eat out as further options. There are plenty of other features of this accomodation which helped to make our whole Rarotonga experience perfect.

Hosts Allan and Geraldine really helpful and able to offer guidance around what's worth seing/experiencing. Other staff realy friendly and helpful.
Having attached 'Shipreck' bar enhanced the experience and enjoyed their Sunday BBQ night on our arrival
Sadly stay too short and would want to stay for a couple of weeks next time
Weather was great and comfortable around 27degrees celcius
Breakfast was included which was both heathy and fullsome.

Very comfortable beach front accommodation

We had a fantastic experience at Aroa Beachside Inn. We celebrated my husbands' birthday at the Ship wreck Hut there with 22 family & friends. It was an awesome night. The bbq was delicious especially the smoked fish entree, and the banana salad. The music were great - everyone singing & up dancing on the beach - even my 85yr old mother.
The site on the beach front was awesome - quiet private beach with great snorkelling and fantastic sunsets.
But the whole experience was made so top notch by the staff. Everyone from owners, reception, bar staff, gardeners - they were all amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was fun. They joined in and felt like family. I feel like we made some very good friends. We loved them all.

A great place to stay in Raro

Mike and I stayed for about 10 days here (no we aren't gay....but we are very good at being happy!). We have both been to Raro before (with our wives!). Aro'a Beachside make you feel welcome right from the get go. If it's your first time on Raro this is a place to start. Steve & Geraldine will point you in the right directions, tell you the places to go. and about the things to do.

If you value privacy this is also a place to get that, and some peace & quiet. There's plenty of bars open at lunch time round the island, but here you don't get that - you have the place and the beach to yourself. This is one of the best places for snorkelling in the lagoon, especially at low tide - so many other places are just rocks and sharp coral.

Just up the road you have a couple of great restaurants as well - the food will blow you away! The Waterline & Kikau Hut.

Great place for couples

Had a great time, all the staff and owners were very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely go back. If the island is windy, it is still pretty sheltered here. The tropical breakfast is great. Lots of snorkeling, paddle boards and kayaking equipment.

Literally paradise!
The accommodation was lovely, comfortable and clean.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Nothing was any trouble for them at all.
Right on the beach with amazing swimming and snorkeling outside the door.
Bus stop right outside.
Has a wee bar in the grounds that does great food and drink and live music 3 nights a week.
I will be back and I will only stay here when I visit Rarotonga as it is perfect!
