The check in procedure takes more than 40 mins. At the beginning , the front desk said that he cannot find my reservation and ask me wait until he at last find my reservation. Otherwise, the hotel is excellent!

Great stay--we walked most places, don't forget Bf

The room was larger than average with a great bathroom. A/C kept the room comfortable. We loved the breakfasts, which did change a little each day. The TV did not have any viable channels though. We did not have a room with a view, but also did not find morning sunshine to keep us from sleeping in. The staff were all friendly, helpful and concerned that our stay was going well. Also, their tip that seniors above 65 yo ride public transit for free was very helpful. This was a tremendous location. Some of the best restaurants and shopping were all within walking distance as was the main history museum. Many different cuisines to choose from as well.

This was a solid hotel for the price. It was conveniently located (both to attractions and to food options, public transit was also nearby). The rooms were small and the hotel is on the older side, but the rooms were clean. Some of our rooms had balconies and those balconies had great views.

The Slavyanski Beseda has a terrific location in the center of Sophia and is accessible to all of the major attractions. Its reasonable price and helpful staff make it very attractive. It could use an update, is acceptable.

The hotel was ok for the price around the center of Sofia. The staff was helpful when asked questions. The only problem I had was leaving my laptop at the reception safe. Was told I can pick it up any time before 10pm. I went to get it at 9pm and the receptionist was on 5 min brake that stretched to 30min. The security guard felt bad for me and actually had to go fetch the receptionist from the nearby store. Almost missed my train because of it.

Unique and honest about itself

Tiny room with all the basics,(soap, shampoo, towels), and a tiny elevator that works well. Balcony room on 5th floor was fantastic for the price, despite a bed that is, let's say \"thin and firm,\" and one pillow that's, let's say \"adequate.\"
Always someone at the desk, and they have a small fridge if you want to buy water, soda, or a can of Bulgarian beer. Whole thing is like stepping back to 1974, but to me it was an unbeatable part of the uniqueness of the place. Full pressure quick hot water, and the cafe has a decent espresso in the morning for 2 lev. Right in the center of everything. For what you get the price is outstanding.

Great city stay

Great location and great secure parking in the middle of downtown. Very good AC and nice balcony. The check in / check out process was pretty good. Breakfast was good. You do feel however like you are in an old Soviet hotel. You can't beat the property location for the price. I would stay here again.

Could get better hotel at the money we paid .

We arrived by 9 am the Old women at the reception she understood that we wanna check in early she was rude in a way she talked , in-fact we turned up just to leave the bags and check in at 12 midday !
The Hotel Old since 1930 and designed for Bulgarian before they joined the EU . Hotel reception prefer Cash payment upfront at the arrival , breakfast very simple and basic and some from previous day sounds like not busy or expensive for local as a three stars hotel and not value for the money , luckily we spent one night . Bathroom tiny and over flooded with water at showering .

2 nights in city centre hotel

Check-in was a hilarious experience - the dimly-lit reception was staffed by a sour-faced woman who barked at me to sit down while she checked in the two couple ahead in the queue. For some reason, this took 20 minutes. Then upstairs to the 2nd floor, which for some reason had piles of old furniture stacked in the corridor. The room was actually okay, and let's face it, this place is cheap for the city centre. But guests should bring a torch as the lighting in the corridor fails and you risk bumping into all that piled up furniture as you make your way to your room. Oh and the wifi was patchy - I did ask about this, but a different-but-equally-unhelpful receptionist just shrugged her shoulders. Felt like I was Back in the USSR...

Sofia 2* budget central rating hotel

Very central to most of the major visiting sites at economy rates. Clean decent room on arrival but hardly cleaned on a daily 7 day stay without making a complaint. Avoid the internal pseudo Chinese restaurant at all costs! The internal bar/breakfast area is good for a noon drink but closes at 2pm?! Very strange!!

Excellent location. Close to all sightseeing spots. A lot of restaurants nearby. A big supermarket, Billa is a few steps away. The room had been refurbished recently so it was very clean and nice. It looks exactly like the pictures on the website. Good value for money. I would recommend this budget hotel to friends.

good location, value for money

This is one of the oldest hotels in the city, hence the look of the building. The rooms however have been renovated and are very clean and comfy. Rooms on the last (5th) floor also come with a nice balcony good for relaxing if the weather permits. Bathrooms are also well renovated and clean with hot water all the time.
This is a cheap budget hotel, so don't expect much, but its clean and comfy with a perfect location - in the heart of the city, close to everything you need + the key attractions and bars. The bfast is also vey basic, but there are multiple choices within couple of mins if you need something more particular or fancy :) There is also a big supermarket just next door. The hotel provides free WiFi as well, which is good.
Staff are very welcoming and friendly.
For urban history geeks - this used to be a famous place and hotel for politicians during 70-80s, given its proximity to Gov't institutions. Unfortunately, the building has not been maintained well since then, so there nothing left from its past glory apart from some pieces from the once beautiful façade and some photos of famous people in the corridors.

Clean with comfy bed, but that's about all

Pros:
- Very clean room and bathroom
- Bed was comfortable
- Fantastic location, close to just about everything you'd want to see

Cons:
- Bathtub was not sealed to the wall properly so the shower water leaked horribly under the tub and into the floor of the bathroom.
- TV didn't work (which wasn't a huge problem for me, but something I noticed)
- Hotel receptionist was not helpful or friendly when I checked in. She barely spoke to me and did not tell me about my room, the hotel facitities, did not confirm how long I would be staying, etc.
- The noise from the hallway could be heard very well from the room.

A middle of the road hotel at a good price. If there are others this close to downtown at a similar price point, I'd choose another, but this was fine for the price and location if there's nothing better available. Just a little worn around the edges.

Rude staff, not comfortable but great location

This is an old hotel and could do with some renovation. It is within walking distance to the sights, so in a great location. However, the employees at reception are extremely rude and unhelpful. We had booked a room for two adults and two children (which was advertised as suitable for it) but the receptionist seemed very displeased that we were all staying in the same room. There was insufficient bedding in the room and it wasn't even prepared for four people. Every time we asked reception for information or help, they just seemed annoyed at having to deal with us. The wifi in the hotel does not work other than in reception.

In the heart of Sofia

My daughter and I were visiting family in Bulgaria and on our way back we decided to stay a couple of days in Sofia to spend time at museums, art galleries and sightseeing. We picked this hotel mostly for its great location - close to shopping, attractions, historical places and entertainment, but also looked for the must have amenities: in room WiFi and AC. Our disappointment started right when we walked into the room - the sofa bed in the living room that my mom was to sleep on was so old, the middle part was just hanging down and it made it impossible to sleep on. The suite was facing west and was really hot, so we turned the AC on and walked outside to get some drinks and give it a time to cool off. Three hours later the room was still very hot and the hotel staff said there is nothing else they can do about it. The problem is that the suite has two rooms but only one wall unit whose power wasn't enough for the space. The next surprise came when we tried to use the in room internet - none of our five devices were able to detect the hotel network. When addressed, the hotel staff advised us to come to the first floor and use the internet in the lobby.
Overall the great location and the cleanliness of the room didn't compensate for the lack of the other amenities.
We will not recommend the hotel to any of our friends and family.

Do not expect more then a bed to put your head down for a night. The location is good. There is no comfort, no AC in the room, WiFi does not work in the room. check out is easy. They do not give you hard time for arriving couple of minutes early or checking out little late.

Budget hotel with good location

Budget hotel in communist style, friendly staff, great location, one of the best Italian restaurants - Spagethi Kitchen - is just around the corner, only minus was the bad state of the hotel, rooms are not well isolated and you hear everything and the bathrooms are very old, it is ideal for backpackers though who are on a budget and right in the heart of the city.

Good Value

Like in all ex communist countries, things are lagging behind. No reviewer should realistically expect more. So enjoy your stay back in the 50s or 40s, updated here and there with the cheapest of implements since when typical workers earn only 400 Euros a month you cannot expect more! It was a fine place.

Worn out hotel

The hotel is on a very old building and the maintenance is really low. I left on the next day. I have to compliment the location (it's inside the city center) and the staff, as when I decided to leave they were very kind on offering me another room and reimbursing me.

La chambre était correcte mais assez vieille : le papier peint était ancien et la baignoire fuyait.
Le personnel de l’accueil était très agréable et professionnel.
En revanche, l’expérience au petit-déjeuner a été décevante à cause des dames du restaurant, qui étaient désagréables et mal polies. Cela a vraiment gâché ce moment.
L’hôtel est toutefois très bien situé, en plein centre, ce qui est un point positif.

De kamers waren niet schoon en werden niet schoongemaakt. Het balkon was prettig. Het ontbijt was sober. Het personeel was wel vriendelijk. Het hotel is ouderwets maar is wel goed gelegen, dichtbij de bezienswaardigheden.
