Probably the friendliest hotel I have been to. The staff, all the staff are excellent can’t do enough to help you. Rooms are good quality, pool area and sun deck is great. Breakfast is amazing quality and plentiful.
Drinks and other meals are reasonably priced and good quality. I’ve extended my stay by an extra night (owing to Middle East flight issues) and arranging that was easy.
Location is ideal for the waterfront I have walked there and back a lot. Hotel provides transport or an uber is literally £2-3.
The only thing, which made me smile is the “harbour view” it’s a working port with containers being moved about. But technically it’s a harbour view. But Balamory it is not.

I can’t fault this hotel in anyway.

This hotel isnt a 4 star hotel. It is a 3 star one. Very dissappointing for a Marriot Hotel. We stayed in other Marriots in other places and this hotel defo doesnt have the Marriot quality. Location isnt waterfront and in a very unusual place to walk to Waterfront. Pool is very small and the pool chaira were broken and not usable. Terrible amenity.
Reception staff are terrible but the staff working in the breakfast are a lot friendlier and nicer. Room service does not want to provide 2 towels as we were 2 people staying.

AC Marriott Waterfront is one of the ‘premium’ Cape Town hotels, and whilst we felt the rooms fit the bill, nothing else did.
Rooms - 5*, well presented, very clean.
Breakfast - 3*, good selection and option for hot cooked food, but food didnt seem to be refreshed often throughout breakfast service.
Location - 3*, good for Cape Town, but about a 15/20 minute walk from the main waterfront bit, and not safe to walk at night. Shuttles are offered, but we didn’t take these.
Service - 1*, we were very disappointed with service given price of hotel, and being Bonvoy members. We originally booked 1 night’s stay for 2, then at last minute due to a tour cancellation for one of us, booked the 2 nights preceding for 1. For reasons unknown staff treated this with extreme suspicion, as if we were trying to pull the wool over their eyes not paying for 2 people (which in the context of the stay was only a very small amount!). Checking in took an extended time, and unusually we weren’t allowed to connect the bookings (despite sending an email in advance requesting), and so had to check out after 2 nights and check back in again. No apology was given for the trouble, and we were told they would only ‘allow’ bags to be left for the intervening hours, no early checkin. On top of unfriendly service at reception for both ‘bookings’ cleaning service attempted to enter to clean at 10am on the day of checkout (checkout was at 12), despite the DND sign being on the door.

Brilliant hotel overall. The location was a little tricky to find at first, but once there it was nice. The rooms were modern, very clean, and spacious, making the stay comfortable and relaxing. I must say the breakfast was excellent — a great variety of options and very high quality, definitely one of the highlights of the stay. The staff were friendly and professional, and the hotel has a great atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again.

Polite and helpful staff made our stay very memorable. The shuttles are convenient to get into town on hot days. We walked back to the hotel when it was pleasant weather which took about 20 minutes. The breakfast buffet is amazing, one can also add freshly cooked eggs or avocado toast on top of the lavish selection. The pool was decent but there were no parasols to shade under so it was way too hot in the summer sun. There is the option of the private shuttle to and from the airport which we took three times. They were timely and very convenient. I would highly recommend this hotel if you want a peace of mind and welcoming faces.

Absolutely fantastic breakfast buffet. Nice relaxing area for drinks/tapas. Spacious clean & secure room with view of Table Mountain. Pick-up airport service (booked through hotel but not included in room rate) was efficient and friendly. The hotel is a long & somewhat complicated walk from the V&A waterfront and the cruise terminal. The free boat-shuttle to the waterfront was not operating because it was too windy, and the free shuttle bus schedule was not convenient for our schedule, so we ended up using a taxi service to both. If you are looking for a premium upscale property, this is not that. However, for its class, I give it five stars and would happily stay there again.

One thing to keep in mind is that the location is quite remote — it’s not walkable to any nearby attractions or shops, so transportation is necessary to get around.

AC Hotel is excellent in all categories except for the location. We booked it because we thought it was close to the V&A Waterfront. However we were told repeatedly by the hotel staff that walking there is unsafe outside of busy hours of the day. Also note that Google Maps shows a circuitous walking route that takes half hour. You can cut it in half by taking a walkway along the canal along the back of the Canal Quays Apartments. We did that during the day and took Uber in the evening; it costs less than $3 from the Waterfront.

It’s not on the waterfront

Our stay at the hotel was amicable, unfortunately when booking it states that it is on the waterfront - what is not noted is that it is quite far from the waterfront and there is not an easy access route for driving or walking to the waterfront. With a young family the rooms were adjoining, however breakfast was interesting. As a family of 5 it’s not great when servers communicate very openly to one another about a table being free or not, this could have been done in a different manner, to top it off we got give a squished table and 5 sitting as it was convenient instead. At least a dish was broken by a server daily and it is not child friendly. Many times an order repeated for a drink, or forgotten and reminded, the fruit was semi frozen and as a bonus the cereal was stale. There is no mention of room service in the room, until you walk down and ask and when the food did come it was cold.
Our biggest issue was the walk to the waterfront, coming back after 8pm - you have to walk around not along the canal which is already a 20/25 min walk.
The beds were comfortable and the staff were friendly and the room was always clean.

Wonderful hotel, but location is remote

Stayed for 3 nights in June 2025 prior to a group tour. The hotel is great and all of the staff members were lovely and kind! The only negative about this hotel is that it is essentially at the end of a dead end road (there is a security fence surrounding the hotel), so you have to follow the road back out to the main street to go anywhere. That being said, we walked around quite a bit, even at night, and found the area very safe.

Great hotel, while a little away from waterfront, free ferry and hotel shuttle, both easy to use. Great breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. We had a corner room, facing lions head, lots of room which we loved. They did try to 'upgrade' us to a suite facing the dock but another customer behind us said don't do it, noisy through night and hard to then move from another room. Good tip from their bad experience for us all!!

This property is listed as a VC Waterfront hotel. However, it is a 15-20 minute walk to the central VC Waterfront district. It's a nice walk, but the gate to the walkway closed at 8:00 pm so be mindful of this when venturing out. Breakfast was nice and convenient.

While the location looks like it's nearby to attractions, it's actually all fenced off. It becomes a 30 min walk to get to the waterfront. After that 1.5 mile walk, would appreciate water in the lobby. Otherwise, stay was good. Excellent breakfast selection. Decent gym. Rooms spacious and clean. Our first time staying in South Africa and at the AC by Marriott and we were not at all disappointed. We stayed in a super spacious and cosy room with a gorgeous view of Table Mountain and the surrounding areas of Cape Town. Being right by the waterfront and a 10 minute walk from the Central Business District (CBD) was perfect for us and our adventures. This hotel also has a complementary shuttle service to the V&A Waterfront via bus and riverboat. The staff at reception were extremely helpful and were always available to resolve any issues we might have had (not that we did). A special thanks to Asithanoile, Asekho, Jesse, Shai - Lynne, Martha and David for their consistent help and kindness.
Breakfast was delicious every morning, with a wide range of food to choose from at the buffet, as well as a menu to order from as well. We were met with an abundance of smiles from Onelisiwe, Asaniko, Lukanyo and Obi, which filled our mornings with joy. Dinner was just as much of a pleasure to walk into and despite our attempts, we couldn't stay away! Nothing else we tried in Cape Town quite compared, the food was so rich in flavour and the service was unmatched. We loved seeing Tandile, Sinoxlo and Bradley and having a laugh. Thank you for being such a pleasure to talk to and for your helpful sightseeing advice! The hotel is well appointed and conveniently located on the Cape Town waterfront. Our room was very large, clean and quiet. The bar and restaurant served excellent cocktails and food, but what really made our stay perfect was the staff. The staff is wonderful. Everyone is kind and attentive. However, the property is not at the V&A waterfront. We had to take an uber to/from the V&A waterfront everyday to get to the better restaurants and shopping. For that reason, I wouldn’t stay at this property again. It’s just too far away from the action in my opinion. But if you’re looking for a safe and clean place to stay, this would be a great option. Also, the breakfast every morning is free and it’s really good!

We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were nice and clean, and the bar area was enjoyable. Restaurant had great food. Get the Mozambique shrimp! Great views of Table Mountain from our room. Not much immediately next to the hotel but a short walk to the V&A Wharf and there is a water taxi directly in back to take you there. Also UBER came quickly.

Upon check-in, staff noted we are assigned waterfront view room unfortunately our view was railway track, ship containers/dock. At 4am we could hear container noises being moved around.VA waterfront is 25-30 minutes walking distance and not safe even at daytime especially walking through canal walkways. Yes we did get followed by a young man asking for money. I cancelled my previous reservation at different hotel and booked AC marrriot for almost double the cost hoping for waterfront view and closer: safer to VA waterfront,Big Mistake…Hotel is located at a secluded area and definitely need transportation to get around.

Our heat didn't work in our room and they offered to put us in another room but we were happily settled in our room and agreed to wait and it was fixed when we returned from our excursion. We loved the breakfast and the staff was wonderful to us. If something is wrong, please be courteous/patient and let the staff know. They care and will make every effort to resolve your problem. Excellent hotel and located a 2min taxi or free shuttle ride from the waterfront.

Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Can’t do enough for you.

Very safe. Always several porters around the main entrance on the road in the evening.

Will defo stay again!

We wanted to stay on Victoria Alfred Harbor/waterfront . Expedia gave that as the location for AC Marriott, but it was actually a 20 minute taxi or water taxi away from the waterfront.
