I chose the Pay now option and it did not Pay, instead it held the booking on a 72 hr payment Schedule which never landed up paying the hotel at all and guest on arrival had to pay upfront for the night and I had to do a separate payment for the remainder of the stay Very annoying. really created complications. I dont have these issues with any other hotel. Staff are also not very friendly.

Wasn’t expecting the hotel to be in bad shape. Although, it got the job done for the one night I stayed there and customer service was great. We also ended up paying for a shuttle ride arranged with the hotel, which showed up perfectly on time. I would highly recommend Joseph. He was extremely kind, gave us some cool information about Cape Town, and was overall a great driver. A+ Joseph. Thank you and the hotel front desk for all the help!

Horrible Tulbagh Hotel Cape Town SA

I recommend Hotels.com remove this hotel as an option, it’s horrible. The place is difficult to find MapQuest & Uber can’t find it, after 5 rooms & prop phone filthy furniture in the 2 sweets & no hot water in the last room, I checked out early, the staff was the only thing that kept me there that long. Absolutely lovely staff trying to make the best of it. It’s clear the owner isn’t interested in fixing problems below the surface.

Don't expect much

On booking, I specifically asked for a double bed and not separate beds. We were given a room with two separate single beds but within 30 minutes we were in a replacement room.

Cleanliness - we found a ball of hair in the shower and a strand or two on the towels.

Service - although our breakfast table was clean, there were no cups and missing some cutlery. Kitchen staff communication is terrible - I asked the staff for a fried on the skillet egg and she walked away without response but then someone else appeared to make the egg. I also asked a lady where do I get coffee, she also walked away to do something and then a gent came and helped us.

Beds were uncomfortable, and the hotel seriously needs to upgrade the mattresses.

The management also needs to maintain the one elevator / lift (there are 2) as it cannot be called from the 3rd floor. There was a lady who couldn't get out as the lift kept going up and down but for some reason not stopping on her floor.

On the positive side the TV channel selection wasn't too bad although the channels in the first room and second were different - go figure!?

Service at reception was good

Also parking needs to be directly to the parking attendants outside.

It was a night one stay and the price including breakfast is not too bad when you look at the location.

Hotel was just ok. Area left alot to be desired and there were lots of rats running around outside.When I raised this with the hotel they asked me if we did not have rats where we came from! Bar and resturants closed early so you had to leave the hotel to get a drink. On the up side hotel staff were very good and helpful and the hotel was very central

Excellent value hotel close to bus & train station

The Tulbagh exceeded my expectations and I thought it provided excellent value for money. My bedroom was more modern and far more spacious than i’d anticipated - the bathroom and shower were particularly generously sized, and everything was quite smart and immaculately clean. Nice toiletries provided, good towels, comfy bed, effective aircon/heating system, tea-making facilities. The only thing I could improve on would be the pillows, which were nevertheless perfectly adequate, if not luxurious! Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was extremely good, as previous reviewers have noted - a full buffet of fresh, tasty food covering most requirements.

air con wasn`t working ,, noise from elevators is quite loud ! and can be heard in every room .hot water shuts off after 1 minute then it`s a cold shower ( really why ?this was a definitive let down )but overall it was a pleasant xperience. Room has nice decor and was clean.Position is great as it`s right in the middle of town

Good hotel in good location with great staff

The staff were very helpful and friendly, our twin room was large, clean and comfortable. Good location 10-15 mins to Waterfront - quicker once you get to know the way! Definitely helped to make our holiday a fantastic experience. Look forward to returning.

A thumbs up to the New Tulbagh Hotel

We have been travelling round Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa for several weeks and we feel this hotel offers best value for money . Our room was spotless with crisp white bedding and the breakfast, which was included in the price, was the best on our trip.
The only downside was that our room was next to a very noisy lift , however, for us this is a good place to spend a few days

The stay was as expected.The one serious issue was the so called secure parking.
.I t turned out to be public parking controlled by a parking vendor during the day. He leaves at 6pm where after there was no security except for a hotel staff member who works at the bar occupationally glancing out the window
The staff at the hotel was not clear on how it works.
The hotel lifts need attention!!

The New Tulbagh - nothing new about this hotel

On checkin I asked for a room away from the noise coming from what I thought at the time was a construction site next door, 'okay' was the reply, but alias the jack hammer like noise continued all night - it was the old lifts in the hotel making the noise. The room couldn't be locked, the AC didn't work and the linen was stained. Next day I told them of my concerns,'sorry' manager wasn't there, it was a Sunday, so I cancelled the remaining 4 days of my booking, and checked into another hotel. Guess what, they would not accept the cancellation and still charged for the 4 days that I wasn't there.

Room was dirty, towels had holes in them. There was no duvet cover but just two flat sheets below and above the duvet inner.

I expected a much better experience given the cost per night.

Parking was an issue as the parking lot was always full.

Noisy, bad food, and rude staff

The hotel is extremely noisy, the blonde lady at the front desk was not only unhelpful but plain rude, the food at the buffet is not only bad but the same menu every day ( at least they are consistent in something) and the area although walkable if full of beggers and drunk people, on the flip side is very clean and has cable tv and free Internet.

The stay was good. We had a problem initially when checking in due to a water leak and maintenance work - the hotel decided to move us to a sister hotel just off Long Street promising it was an upgrade. Turned out the alternative was in a very noisy area with very tiny rooms and we were moved back to the Tulbagh after we asked to cancel the booking and look for an alternate accommodation. Funny enough, once we mentioned cancelling a room was found for us in the original hotel that was not affected by the water leak. Hotel is in a convenient location for connectivity around the city and beyond.

breakfast was great. make sure you have to pay extra for parking. the elevator is too noisy. It is hard to sleep and you have remind the staff to stop the elevator in the evening hours if you happen to have your room close to the elevator.

perfect location for needing to attend the convention centre. i chose this hotel for location and the offer of hotel shuttle to collect from the airport and take us to our cruise ship meeting place. NOBODY showed up to pick us up even though I had 3-4 emails confirming our airport pickup which was a disappointing start. no apologies. hotel organised a taxi once i rang them after waiting patiently over an hour.

Disaster from start to finish. Started with booking apparently not being available due to invoice having been sent to incorrect email address. Room musty smelling. Turned out carpet was wet. Shower tap leaking badly. Moved to new room. No hot water. Dinner meals very poor. Bar service very slow. Tackled in unprofessional manner (again) about booking not being paid for - again their mistake. Requested porter, but no-one helped.

It was an experience worth forgetting. The managers who coincidently are from indian origin, are predominantly interested on digging the last penny out of customers rather than providing decent customer services. Payable rates change change at convenience and one never knows exactly what bill is due to be paying,

I have been accommodated on a number of hotels in my life, from genuine 5 star facilties to crap hotels,and the new tulbagh ranks close to the bottom.

Clean and Quiet Hotel

Located a short walk from Long Street, its good enough. Its not in the most \"safest\" of areas and there isn't a lot of restaurants close by except for the hotel's own restaurant. A shore walk to V & A only about 15 minutes. Rooms are modern, spacious and clean. WIFI was strong. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was amazing!

Reasonable hotel with good service

The standard of the room was acceptable. The room and the bathroom were spacious. There was no dustbin in the room. The hotel didn't have irons and iron boards for the rooms. The car parked outside but I had to pay R 70. The lift was frightening when it stopped. The price was reasonable. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The shower was full of hair everywhere ! On the wall in the canalizations etc. gross. We found 6 cockroaches in the room ! EVERYDAY ! We where at the very last room number 101 so the wifi couldn't get there we had to get out of the room to send a message ! The TV was barely showing 4 Chanel and all of them was very bad quality and we couldn't hear anything. You pay the parking 70R per night and you are not even garanti to get a place + it's really insecure ! Also dirty serviette in the bateroom yellow and orange suspicious trace.

Business trip to Cape Town. Hotel in great location but suggest that they change the name from \"The New Tulbach\" Hotel as this name must have applied 10 years ago. Décor, rooms and fittings could do with an urgent upgrade and generally the Hotel is looking very tired. Service very average and no ice available in the Bar? Parking is an issue and extra charge. Prices charged not in line with service offering.

The first shocking matter was that the hotel did not have its own parking, nor did it subsidize the parking in the adjacent parking facility. A local man stands in front of the parking and demands money for parking at R70 a day, which can only be paid in cash. Surely, without immediate payment, there is nowhere to leave your vehicle. Rooms were satisfactory, albeit a lot of wasted space and moisture damage on the walls. A big disappointment was going to the bar downstairs at 11pm for a bottle of water; the bartender didn't have enough change for me, and said that he'll get some and bring it to my room. This never happened and he was on leave over the next two days, which was extremely frustrating. It must be said that the front desk staff did rectify this when I mentioned it to them, however was a big inconvenience trying to get my money back from the bar.

We met a friendly staff and aggregat hotel near the Waterfront - walking distance 12 to 15 minutes.

The breakfast buffet was superb!

Very pleasant. Centrally located, less than 100m from City Bus stop. Nice breakfast. Staff friendly.
Noisy area, especially early mornings with garbage truck.
Website advertisement indicated all rooms have shower and bath, which is not the case with family room. Only the 3rd staff member could explain that to me.
Overall very good and for the price, the stay was excellent! Thank you.

There is nothing NEW about The New Tulbagh Hotel

The images on the web page are misleading. The lifts are out of order (which appears to be a permanent status) so you have to use the stair case which hasn't seen a vacuum cleaner or a coat of paint in many years. There is a musty smell on the first floor. Our bathroom has a leak between the shower and the vanity. In the 6 nights that we stayed there it was never repaired even after reporting it. We booked and paid online and hence we couldn't leave. Parking is not owned by the hotel so you don't always get to park in the secure area. This is also not clear on the site. I asked a front desk staff member who owned the hotel and they couldn't tell me which is odd.The positive is that the hotel is centrally located but sad that this asset is neglected and badly managed. The staff only do what they are allowed to do.

I had booked this hotel expecting a simple, very clean place, conveniently located to visit V&A Waterfront and depart to the multiple tours we had planned. The hotel fulfilled that but also offered very convenient location sureounded by small places to dine, shop, drug store, barber shop and others which were good to have around. Staff was very helpful.

Parking a problem! Hotel a bit scruffy and tatty in places. We asked for a double bed, and my husband and I got two twins, although they did try accommodate us on another floor, although this was not next to our children (as requested) The lift was very noisy, and it was difficult to sleep when it was in operation (our room was right next door to the lift). Area a little run down.

It was definitely a pleasant stay in The New Tulbagh Hotel. good location, lovely deco, friendly staff and reasonable price. but one thing that makes me upset is the airport pick-up service. since my flight arrived at 11 at night, i called 3 days in advance to ask for a airport pick-up service from the hotel. a recetion guy said no propblem. everything is confirmed and we will surely arrange a car from our hotel to pick you up by arrival. But when i arrived and tried to find the driver. there was no one there for us. i called the hotel, (it seemed to be the same reception guy) the reception said \"would yuo want to me ask the driver to get you now?\"--what's the problem. didn't he should be supposed to arrive earlier to wait for us? we took a taxi to the hotel in the end with less price(200rand)
