There was very loud construction work everyday so I couldn’t relax in the hotel. At night all you can hear is the loud music from the nightclubs so I couldn’t sleep much at night either. Not at all a pleasant experience

I was thinking to check out at 3 AM given how much I felt disgusted.
Dirty floors, carpets and bathrooms
Don't ever stay here, just spend the night in your car or cancel the whole travel plan or sleep in the street that will be much better.

Okay overall...

The hotel overall was okay but the franchise branding and relatively nice room masked the poor condition of fixtures and fittings - particularly in the bathroom; faulty shower head and water all over the place and also WiFi was not working properly - the code given did not work, and their phone just went dead so could not call down.
Also, didn't realise they have a nightclub there, which could have been bad if I had not been given a higher room.
But room was comfortable and maybe the situation was a one off.

Great hotel, was given an upgrade to a much larger room. Breakfast is ok, with an equal European/Indian flavor. Don't expect to enjoy wandering around the local area though. However, it is convenient to other parts of Dubai.

I like the fact that it was so accessible to public transport, shopping centre and local markets, I didn’t like the fact that the seventh floor which I had stayed on was a be too noisy, the constant banging of doors, and footsteps up and down the corridor all through the night makes it a be difficult to sleep.

Stay was just OK. I was initially excited about the fact that this hotel has a night club! To my surprise, it wasnt the mind of night club that I expected! Turns out to be a dance bar, with 10 women in skinny attire, dancing in front of greedy men with drooping eyes. Not a nice experience to have.

If that hotel closer Emirate Mall I would come back again.

Check-in was quick, nice staff, room was spacious, price was good for a solid 3 star. Hotel could be rated higher but they have a very loud night club that goes on till early morning hours. The pool was closed at 6 pm and the hot tub was out of order. Breakfast buffet was very good with lot's of selection and cooked to order egg selections for only 30 AED each. I booked on expedia with pay at hotel but they charged my credit card upon booking and at the higher pay at hotel price. I contacted the hotel several times and finally on checkout they apologized and offered a free shuttle to the cruise terminal. I would still recommend this hotel if you don't mind the noise. Only a 10 minute walk to the metro.

The stay at this hotel was acceptable and enjoyable. Good Points were comfort of the room and the view from the window was of the water. I was on the 7th floor with a smoking room. The room did not smell like an ashtray, which was very nice. The breakfast was ok, however, I do not like Indian food so my selection was very limited. Bad Point was the Wi-Fi service was one of the worst that I have seen. I was very disappointed with that. Also, my room key deactivated several times, so after going out and then returning to my room on the 7th floor I had to return to the lobby so that they could reprogram the card.

An Excellent Value in Dubai

This was my first visit to Dubai. I attended the Dubai International Horse Fair and Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship.

I was quite impressed by the service provided. The mezzanine restaurant was quite good (albeit pricey) - offering a nice mix of Indian and Chinese cuisine.

The bell captain was both nice and professional.

The hotel is a short (10 min.) walk from the Al Ghubaiba Metro Station.

I will stay here again...

Sensibly priced average 3-Star hotel

Sensible budget basic 3-Star hotel. Staff were professional and welcoming. A porter even took our luggage to the room for us. Porter explained the hotel and even gave us tourist maps and bottles of water - nice after long flight! House cleaning team are efficient and pleasant and even lent us an iron and ironing board for the week we were there at no extra charge. Room was clean and so was bathroom. Room had TV, Fridge, Kettle, Safe, Cupboards etc. Bathroom had standard toilet, shower, bath, sink, and hair-dryer. The only downside to our stay was the thumping music were heard EACH AND EVERY NIGHT emanating up from the basement 'Indian Disco' even up on the 3rd floor where our room was. I put earplugs in to sleep as I like it silent! When I mentioned it to the reception staff they took my complaint seriously and said they would have words with the disco guy to reduce the music levels. We did not eat breakfast there or visit the Free Gym, Swimming pool and Sauna which all guests have free access too up on the top floors, so cannot comment on these.

Port is close by, and main road so we could hear cars and port noises. Metro is 10mins walk.

This is an okay hotel if you just need somewhere cheap & clean to sleep, but are willing to travel on the metro or drive to see interesting places. But if you want luxury and to enjoy the hotel, and need things to do just outside the hotel then this place is not for you and you need to look elsewhere (and probably pay for it to!

I made a trip to Dubai with my mother. There was no heater in room. There's an ac thermostat which has,cool,heat and fan option. But heat option really didn't work. If you Set temperature to 31 degree Celsius, it will still blow cold air. My mother was always cold in room. Also, bathroom shower wasn't really comfortable. Bathtub was great for hot water bath. Room lighting wasn't enough for makeup and getting ready. However, we liked buffet breakfast. We paid 20 aed per person but we enjoyed full continental and indian breakfast.

It's not close to any metro station but taxis are available anytime of the day. It's close to old Dubai. Great place to stay if on a budget. Might not be great choice during summer time but for Christmas holidays when all other hotels are expensive, this could be a best bet. I opted for deluxe room instead of classic/standard room.

The room was small and not well cleaned. The wifi was terribly bad and only allowed 2 devices. Every time you tried to get online you had to login. The room has not iron. The breakfast is not included but you can get a discount for being guest, however the American restaurant has not too much variety.

Clean, Comfortable, Affordable (stay not dining, dining was expensive) .the only problem was it is located at the end of the road. So you have to do a lot of walking to metro or pay 12aed to take a cab to metro. If your plan includes private transfers, this is best.

I stayed at the Howard Johnson for 3 nights. All the hotel staff where very nice although they would sometimes answer the phone while in the middle of trying to do something for me. The last residents in my room left a hand towel on the window sill that was not seen by the cleaning staff but once I let them know it was quickly rectified. When I arrived I was given wrong directions by the person at the metro station so I ended up walking the length of Khalid bin Waleed Rd with 30kg+ of luggage in the middle of the day but at my arrival they gave me multiple glasses of cold juice for free because I was so dehydrated. The staff were great and for the price I'd stay there again.

Unexpectedly wonderful!

I know HoJo in the US is not the most upscale hotel chain, but this hotel in Dubai was truly a pleasant surprise. The hotel is very nicely appointed, with comfortable, decent sized rooms, a nice bed (not sure it is premium, but it definitely \"nesty\", and every type of service suitable for my needs (coffee/tea in the room, wifi, some TV channels in English).

What impressed me the most was the service. The front desk staff is very helpful, but I'd like to specifically mention Mykel (bellhop?), who knows everything and went out of his way to help me get a taxi at rush hour, or lead me to the closest ATM machine, and even a great recommendation for dinner. Also during check out, a very nice lady, Angel, came to ask how my stay was, and paid careful attention to my comments and was just incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. There is a very nice little counter for coffee and other goodies in the lobby.

I was happy to be given peace and quiet as I needed to work long hours in the room. I did not want maid service and they respected my wishes (even though they checked with me from time to time).

The neighborhood is great in that there are so many ethnic little restaurants. It is not a fancy shopping area.

Finally, I truly appreciate any establishment that accommodates smoking and non-smoking guests. This is something many countries/cities should learn.

I stayed for 19 nights if I could have been refunded, I would have checked out after very first night. The staff at reception was very rude, after 8:00 PM they have very loud music every day, being on 2nd floor I was not able to sleep due to this loud music and complained several times during my stay but nothing improved. also not good for those who need car parking there, its very narrow, small and one way parking place.

i think the hotel is Indian owned but shouldn't mean that everyone has to be Indian. Only few Chinese receptionist but Everyone else is, not being racist but geez. There's many people live in Dubai. Plus they overcharged me. Book a 3 guest room with 2 beds, because that's what I wanted kept insisting I need another bed cost an extra 150 Dirham first night then 180 next . I guess inflation mixed with self interests. Please hiring people with morals and not just Indians

If you are going for the attractions this hotel is far away from anything you may want to see or do. The hotel room was musty and the room service was poor as they did not have the ability to bill the room or take a credit card. It is a 2 mile or so to the metro so not a short walk.Not the worse hotel but I would not stay there again.

A nice hotel for the right price.
Make your trip affordable because it's in the Old Dubai area (the good side of the river).
We bought our lunches at local supermarket and cheap lunches local.
10min walk to metro which is the perfect way to get around. Buy a silver card at the station 50 dirham for 4 days was enough for us to se the whole city.
The Howard Johnson Bur Dubai is located in a good location to do it this way.
But it's not in the fancy luxurious area with shiny buildings as you might expect.

The hotel is good. Everything is clean and nice. The location is fairly good. It is a 8 minute walk from one of the main bus terminals and from one Metro station. The creek is also 10 minutes away by foot so you have eating options not far from the hotel. If you are not very into local food, a Mc Donald´s is in front of the bus terminal. The bus from the terminal to Dubai Marina takes 65 minutes. If you are going to the Burj Alarab or Jumeira, it takes 45 minutes.
We didn´t have breakfast at the hotel (the buffet was EAD 300 per person). Overall, I think the hotel was fine but there was a big con which was the discotheque on the ground floor next to the reception. The music can be heard from the rooms and you don´t get much sleep until the party is over around 2:30am. If you are going to this hotel, make sure you will be assigned a room in the higher levels. If not, may be you should consider another hotel (unless you don´t have problems falling asleep).
The hotel has a travel desk. Advice are good but prices high.

Relaxing Stay in Bur Dubai

Had a conference in the Business Bay area of Dubai. I knew the Howard Johnson Hotel brand and it was a good deal price wise. Great service and very helpful.

Large comfortable rooms. Excellent cafe with entertainment on site.

Also several restaurants with good variety close by. Supermarket, grocery stores & pharmacies nearby. Very close to Dubai monorail line, taxi & bus service.

Great hotel and I would love to book my next stay there again in Dubai.

Hotel staff at reception are good. Food quality is up to the standard.Room services are not that accurate. Not too far from airport, Bus and Taxi stand just 15 meter far.Very close to Mina bazaar however not centrally located. Distance to closest Metro station Al Gubhaiba is May be around 700 meters.

The stay was good overall.
I reached hotel at 8 AM but the checkin time is 2PM.I asked for early checkin but could not get it.There is only one Concierge and when I reached the hotel I had to push my luggage in to the hotel as no one was around to help me.But on my way back I got all the help.The rooms were clean as well as the lobby and the walkway.The location of the hotel is also in one of the busiest streets hence the stay was secure.

The only thing is that the room felt little crampy compared to other hotels.
Other than that overall its a good budget hotel.

Go for Royal Ascot Instead

I booked this one to be at safer side since it is an American chain. Was disappointed a little with over all quality of the hotel. Rooms are quite congested and gym hours are not convenient (8am to 6pm when you are out sight seeing). Not exactly sure how their service tax worked. For 10 Dirham/hr internet, paid 2 Dirham service tax (so total 12 Dirham) and for 8 Dirham snack the steward did bring calculator to calculate tax, but he ended up again with 2 Dirham service tax.

If you are looking for a hotel in the same area, better go with Royal Ascot which is near by.

Not a great location. Was a 15min walk to the closest metro station but easy to get taxis outside but expensive to get anywhere. Breakfast was ok but not much on offer for the price. Rooftop pool area nice, good views. No toilet paper in room on arrival had to ask for some. Could hear the bass from nightclub downstairs but were on 6th floor so not too bad. Feel could get a better hotel for same price.

Our flight arrived in the wee hours of the morning (2am), the hotel did their best and was able to provide us with accommodation by 10am considering they were fully booked. Due to the proximity to the bus stop, we were able to connect to the metro station further down the road and then use the metro to most tourist destinations. Plenty of shopping from centre point, day to day, al karama amongst others. Great sight seeing opportunity, Burj Khalifa, Desert Safari, Atlantis amongst others. The hotel has a tour desk that are willing to assist with any adventures you may want to experience and explore.

Check in was slow. I

I had to wait 30 minutes for my room after arrival. Then they can't my passport for another few hours in order to get me fully checked in.

The showers had a very minimal hot water most showers with lukewarm water

Horrid location but wonderful comfy beds!

Horrid location on ugly, busy, noisy street. Nothing close by to do. No free wifi. Having said that, it has a great little gym, sauna & small rooftop pool & some of the comfiest beds we've ever slept in. Staff try hard but we just didn't like the vibes. Feels cheap & nasty (& IS cheap - but doesn't compare well with other similarly priced accommodation). Good for those on a budget who like Indian-style food & hospitality, which we enjoy when in India but didn't really want in Dubai.

Nice hotel, convenient location. Shame they don't provide free wifi even just in the lobby area other then that would recommend to all. Staff very lovely and polite.

NOT A VERY GOOD PLACE TO STAY

stayed in the hotel for 3 nights , I will say not well maintained although the front desk told me they upgraded me and giving me a better room, but I found the room was quite small and the Toilet had several leaking spots and one spot was from the Door Frame. Breakfast was not exciting with very limited choice. I checked that there are better options available in the vicinity at cheaper prices, I will not stay in this hotel again during my frequent visits to Dubai
