Nice hotel. Great location in the center of Little Italy. Beautifully renovated property with trendy decor. Very nice staff (Jeff was amazing) cool amenities like the pool table, firepits and the snacks during our stay. Unfortunately, very loud. Hotel sits next to the entrance of the freeway. Also very close to the airport so you could hear all the planes and the cars and sirens all night. We did get a couple of ear plugs during our stay which did come in handy. No parking on site but we were able to snatch free street parking across the street and we just walked everywhere. We enjoyed our stay but could imagine it could not be the best fit for everyone.

Over a great stay for the price. In the middle of Little Italy. We enjoyed our time there even with a shared bathroom. It was never an issue. It’s an older remodeled property. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. The place is cute. We paid $122 a night over the weekend: plenty of food close by. If you want a nicer hotel this is not for you. If you want a low key well maintained boutique style place that surges its purpose at a reasonable price this is for you.

This property or this in the hotel is really nice. I love the room. I love the white noise machine did get the job done and blocking the airplane. Sounds and trying to get sleep. It was convenient the area a little early with this hotel. Probably the code would probably be distributed a little early prior would be nice. Otherwise I think everything went OK. It’s a beautiful hotel. I’m no complaints. Thank you.

Good communication and AC. Bad bed/sheets came off. Bad amenities. No luggage storage. No staff onsite am or pm. All needs a refresh. Doors need chain or deadbolt. Noisy locale but near little Italy and park. Sort of a low level motel 6. Not a lot of choice though in area especially for one night. Text staff very pleasant.

would not recommend staying here. maybe be a bit cheaper but there’s cheaper places that are much better. the area is pretty sketchy, lots of homeless and smells like urine, always cops around dealing with something. getting into the hotel is like 4 step process with zero staff to help. check in processes were sent late. the room itself smelled absolutely awful, and it was very worn down. the shower only has a half door so water gets everywhere, and there is no ventilation. not soundproof at all, you hear absolutely everything from the surrounding rooms, very loud street noise and people outside, and airplanes. good luck sleeping if you're a light sleeper at all. the no parking thing didn’t seem that bad until you actually need to find parking and everywhere in the area is either 2 hour max paid parking or far away and $40.

The hotel had some issues during my stay. The room smelled strongly like dogs, and there was no hot water. The staff did offer to help, which I appreciated, but unfortunately there wasn’t really anything to troubleshoot — the hot water simply didn’t work. The toilet paper holder was also falling off the wall.

That said, I did enjoy the amenities. Having a pool table available along with complimentary coffee and snacks was a nice touch and added to the experience.

I gave Zindel Hotel in San Diego a 3 out of 5.
The staff was friendly and helpful. Jeff at the front desk was great and extremely helpful—he actually improved my overall impression from a 1 to a 3. The cleaning staff were also very friendly and nice.
The location is convenient, close to the airport and main tourist attractions (about a 5–10 minute drive). We used Uber. Little Italy nearby has a nice vibe.
The rooms were very clean, and guests had access to complimentary coconut water, regular bottled water, milk, yogurt, snacks, and hot beverages, all included at no extra cost.
However, there are several drawbacks. Some rooms share a bathroom, and my room, for example, had a wall very close to the window, which made it feel dark. The front desk was not always staffed—no one was there on Monday, and at times during other shifts as well. There is no early check-in unless you pay an additional fee.
There was also a strong urine smell around the building on the sidewalks. Additionally, the property is not accessible for people who cannot use stairs—there are no ramps or elevators.

My boyfriend and I chose this hotel for a birthday celebration as a young couple. The hotel stay was okay, nice location, right next to Little Italy and the airport. The room size was very small for the price. They had a hidden fee of $90 for 3 day stay, which we were unaware of. And no, it is not a deposit and you don't get the money back. They said it was the "amenities/tax" fee, which is ridiculous. The amenities they talk about was a pool table and outside fire pit. We couldn't even use the coffee machine because the cups were filled with dust and gross. The water pressure in the shower was weak. Air conditioning was great. Very minimal lights in the room. The front desk LADY was standoff-ish to us and was rude to us when we asked for housekeeping and clean towels. We did not receive room service that day and we kindly asked her to take our dirty towels, which she did not do. However, when we asked the gentleman the next day for housekeeping, he was accommodating and we came back to a clean room. We did feel safe, it's a great location. When we travel we usually don't pick a mainstream hotel and give the local hotels a try. However, for the price I would maybe choose somewhere else next time. The bathroom was extremely small and had no where to put our stuff. I would give this place a 2/5. But I do appreciate the gentleman that always checked on us. It was decent enough to survive but not as comfortable, compared to other places. It was okay!

This is not a hotel—it’s an unstaffed, poorly managed apartment building being marketed as one.

There is no front desk, no onsite staff, and access to the property relies entirely on keypad entry with no real-time support. During my stay, I was locked in a stairwell and unable to exit, and no one responded when I reached out for help. That alone should disqualify this place from being listed as a hotel.

The “suites” are located down a dark, ground-level corridor that feels more like an alley than a hotel hallway, with direct access out to the street. I’ve included photos so others can see exactly what this looks like. It does not resemble a hotel environment and does not feel secure or properly managed.

There is also no onsite parking. The property is on a one-way street, and guests are directed to find street parking or park near the highway and walk. This is completely impractical, especially if you have luggage.

The experience is completely misrepresented. You are essentially on your own in a maze of locked doors with no assistance if something goes wrong.

It’s also extremely loud—they literally provide earplugs in the room, which tells you everything you need to know about the lack of sound insulation.

When I raised these issues as safety concerns, they were dismissed and I was told the reservation was non-refundable. This isn’t about preference—it’s about a property that is not safely or properly operated.

I would strongly caution anyone considering staying here.

I stayed at Hotel Zindel (San Diego) March 25–26, and the experience did not match how this property is represented on Hotels.com.

From booking, I received messages from multiple phone numbers, creating confusion and concern. There is no true front desk—everything is handled by app/text, and there was no staff on-site during my stay.

The property itself felt unsafe and uncomfortable: a poorly lit entrance directly off a busy sidewalk, steep uneven steps, and constant street noise all night. There is also no parking.

I was required to accept a “daily amenity fee” during check-in, which listed amenities such as a lounge, coffee, snacks, and billiards. These amenities were not actually available—there is only a small entry area with minimal furniture. This fee is not justified.

Service was also lacking. I requested towels through multiple contacts, received conflicting responses, and was promised delivery within 30 minutes—nothing was ever delivered.

Security is another concern: rooms use basic combo locks with no deadbolt or privacy latch.

This property is advertised as a “hotel,” but it operates more like a budget Airbnb/hostel, which is not clearly disclosed. The listing photos (social setting, cocktails, amenities) are misleading.

Given the discrepancy between listing and reality, I recommend Hotels.com review this property and consider appropriate resolution.

Excellent stay !! Many restaurants and bars near by. The room was very spacious and clean, though it was in need of a good dusting but it was clean where it counted. The air conditioner was excellent and the bathrooms were nice with modern updates. The staff was amazing and very helpful and we loved the snacks and drinks available in the common area. We agreed we would stay here again. Jeff at the front desk was amazingly friendly we enjoyed chatting with him & we got recommendations from a born & raised local. The room was clean, not fans of the door-less glass shower panels. Glad we booked the King room with the private bathroom. (Just wished this room wasn't across from the shared bathroom)They give you optional ear plus but come the weekend we had noisy talking neighbors at 5am while sleeping, the walls are a bit thin.

Was told parking lot was going to be $21 for a full day that was a lie I paid $50! For 15 hours ! Don’t let them fool you with the parking ! Ended up paying $100 alone in parking . You could hear everyone’s doors opening and closing at all times of the day.

The room was right near the front door and near the stairs, so my partner and I were woken up every time someone came in or out of the building. The door to our room does not quite fill out the frame, which does not help the sound, and it let in a lot of light from the hallway.

The walls are paper thin, and we could hear the couple in the room next to us fighting all night one night, which had us concerned for their safety and we didn't sleep well.

The room does not have great ventilation, so we came back to a very humid room every day if we forgot to run the AC after our showers. Also, while the shower is quite aesthetically pleasing, the lack of a full door meant water splashed everywhere outside of the shower.

The bed was quite comfortable, but the pillows were very stiff and the staff did not have softer pillows.

Overall, the stay was fine, but there were a lot of small inconveniences that amounted to some stress.

Room was clean staff was nice, beds were cozy. However parking was a nightmare our car was side swiped sometime during the night while it was parked directly in front of the hotel. We had to move our car several times during the stay because we couldn’t find overnight parking. The room was located in the dark deep back end of an alley with zero natural light. All the windows were boarded up from the outside so w had no idea of the time of day or night. There wasn’t really anywhere to get fresh air or natural light to enjoy a drink. Overall stay was just ok. We wouldn’t stay there again.

Thw codes to the room doors and the front door stopped working multiple times. You cant use the fireplace outside without hotel staff assistance and there isn't anyone there after 4pm. Parking was a Huge deal i had to park on a side street and it was a 10 min walk to the hotel. Pay parking in the area is $12.50 an Hr. NO long term parking
The check in may be great for the younger people who do everything on their phone, but for me it was a pain in the butt after a day of flying.
NOW that being said once i got in I loved the room. the staff was great had a wonderful undersatnding attitude and was understanding of the above mentioned. She had great suggestion for "things to do / see" in the arae.
The ocean front is fun Maritime Museum / Midway / Food everything was Great.
I would stay again !!

The hotel itself is very nice. Some rooms have shared bathrooms while others have their own bathrooms. I stayed in the 2 bedroom which had 2 full private baths. The entrance for the room is a little strange since it’s in the side of the hotel almost feels like a small walkway/alleyway. It was all self check in and remote, but the number they say to reach out in is very quick to respond to any questions. Now to the room itself, right when you enter there is a small doorway then to the right is the first room which has a twin bed and bath. Everything was clean and they provided shampoo, body wash and conditioner. Plus towels. Another factor to note is only the town room has a door. The room with the king bed does not have a door at all except in the bathroom. Also the living room which has a couch and tv is in the larger room. Also the mini fridge is in there. Since it’s on the bottom floor you can hear all the noise from the floor above. It’s not too bad but you can definitely hear it. The room doesn’t let any natural light in so you don’t really know what time it is or how the weather is outside. I didn’t mind it cause to sleep it definitely helped having it completely dark in there. The stay was nice , not your typical hotel but still enjoyed it. Also the walk to all the shops & food is only a couple mins since it’s right by little Italy. Also for Parking there is none but I used spot hero ( it’s an app) and found parking nearby for fairly cheap in a parking garage.

This accommodation is not a hotel. It is a hostel. The price seems good for San Diego at first, but they surprise you with a $25 a day surcharge for "amenities" (a coffee machine and cheap packaged breakfast items). With how much you end up paying, you might as well book a nicer hotel. The rooms were very very small. There is only one bathroom for an entire floor, so you have to share it with many rooms. One of the bathrooms was out of order for 2 days, so guests were made to shower upstairs. There was no privacy in the bathroom, as the windows were left open. The staff were friendly and helpful though.

It has a nice look inside and out. The surrounding area is really nice and little Italy is so cool. The biggest downside is in the shared bathroom, the shower was not draining. The water was up to my ankles. So then I question even though the bathroom looks clean, why was this not fixed or was it not noticed. Luckily, another bathroom down the hall was a lot better. Ample coffee around too but I'm unsure how often they change the water in it.

Property was awesome for a hostile. They kept the bathrooms clean, and the property itself is in really good shape and updated. Only complaint is that room service didn’t come into our room once to clean up. Also, we didn’t know it was a hostel. It turned out being OK but you have a shared bathroom with everybody.

Great location with restaurants a short walk away. Personal AI concierge, very helpful and responsive. There is no human present at the property. The property felt very secured with double and triple code required entrances.
The decor is contemporary and of good taste.
The only disappointment for me was the level of FLOORS cleaninness … in spite of all the positives the floors scream of needing serious attention. The fountain at the entrance is nice and yet sitting in that area I just kept looking at the dirty corners and floor stains. The shared bathroom also has floors that should be throughly scrubbed and bleached.

I was very surprised with the quality and the price, I got a deal on Expedia and only paid $50 for one night. It was beautiful, quiet, and it was nice once you turned on the A/C and huge fan above the bed, the private bathroom was clean with modern but classic look to it and was very beautiful all around. Outside the room there was the main entrance with their waterfall and off to the side a lounge area with complimentary snacks a coffee station ready to go for those that need to get out early and fast like me for flights. I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling or just wanting to adventure while visiting San Diego. Its also great for those with social anxiety because everything is self serve and done through text. 10/10 recommended and will return.

Smelly room in good location

Location was excellent; mini Queen suite nice in size. Unpleasant odor in room gave me a headache - smelled similar to cats. Virtually no hot water in the shower. Coffee bar in common area nice.

Be wary

This property is all about location. Be wary however-- walls are paper thin so you hear traffic, airplanes, street conversations all night. And your neighbors upstairs -- even the words of the song they are playing. Basically no windows -- they look out onto a wall 2ft away. They charge you to check in early but if they don't let you check in on time, there is no money coming back to you. Our checkin information was delivered to us 45minutes late. Then the key wasn't even in the lockbox when we went to the door. Definitely will not be staying here again.

Clean property and cool amenities. As much as we enjoyed the location and easy walk to Little Italy, the noise from the street and people slamming doors all night using the shared bathrooms, I doubt we stay again.

We liked the hotel. You need to make the daily amenity fee optional. We used none of them. I resent paying that fee.

It is not the best neighborhood and therefore we were nervous about leaving our car parked by the freeway and the ugly lot across the street from the hotel. But it turned out ok. Better, I suppose, than paying the highway robbery fee of $60-65 per night that hotels downtown charge.

We enjoyed Little Italy and the proximity to Balboa Park. I wish the outdoor patio when you first come in from the street was a little cleaner and had a few amenities.

I still rate the hotel 5, but it’s pricey. Remove or make optional the amenity fee.

Our stay at Hotel Zindel was great! The bed was SUPER comfy. I would say there needs to be better communication between the hotel itself and the concierge services about what amenities the hotel can actually provide. The concierge service was incredible, and there were so many great recommendations.Thoroughly enjoyed, Little Italy, the neighborhood the hotel borders!

Very clean and quiet. Staff was helpful and friendly. Only a short walk to get to all the restaurants so it's perfect for an evening walk to go get some dinner. About 15 minute walk to get to the harbor. Will definitely be staying again in the future
