Excellent room, spacious and traditional, and the hotel very conveniently has a Lawson just 1 minute's walk away. Breakfast was a lovely spread of traditional and international foods.
Do note though, that some of the hot spring tubs in the photos require additional paid reservations, and are not included in the room stays.

The outdoor public onsen was great and very relaxing! That combined with the traditional room and dinner was a very cool experience. The staff were friendly and polite as well and were helpful in explaining the correct rules for wearing the yukata and using the onsen. Overall, a great stay.

Amazing experience at this traditional Japanese hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The private onsen was very relaxing, and worth paying the extra money if you are not comfortable getting into the public onsen naked.
The best was the Japanese style dinner and breakfast! It was beautifully presented and delicious!
Getting to the hotel from Hakone is quite a commute but we loved it and would recommend to anyone travelling to that area!

Friendly staff, easy check in, reservations made for dinner and breakfast. The restaurant food and service was 5 stars. I got to try their kaiseki meals for 2 nights. Sukiyaki dinner with many sides that were grilled, and steamed the first night. They have burners and chafing pots on your meal table.
The breakfast sets were also a feast for the eyes.
The public onsen was easy to use, lockers, shower & wash stalls and bathroom amenities to look your best.
My single room did not have a shower, but the public onsen more than made up for it. The light smell of incense sitting in 104 deg temps was spiritual as the wet snow was falling thru the foliage.
The two daily meals and public onsen was worth the room rate.

Staffs are wonderful, and Very fluent in English. They go above and beyond to help customers. I am not particularly good at tech. The staffs helped me downloaded, selected right plan for our Hakone free pass. They also make sure we know the time of our bus. Both the indoor, and outdoor hot springs are beautiful. The restaurant, the breakfast, and dinner is both authentic as well as delicious. Everything is an amazing experience.

Came back here after 7 years with my family. The private baths were great! Food was amazing.

But the thing with the public baths is that you’re with other people who don’t know the bath etiquette— meaning there’s going to be lots of long hair floating in the women’s bath and people who don’t scrub down before getting in. Wish there was a little more signage that’s obvious for those who don’t speak/read Japanese. Getting into the outdoors bath and having a hairball stick to me didn’t feel amazing at all…

The crowded hour bus ride up a crazy windy road was not ideal. Once you got to the hotel there wasn’t much to do without have to ride that crazy bus ride back down the mountain. I made the best of it and enjoyed the mineral baths and a in room massage. The staff at this hotel outshined all the rest of my accommodations in Japan. A friendly smile leveled up

Mount View Hakone was a beautiful hotel and I so wish we’d had more than one night in it. I’ll definitely try to return, especially to explore the mountainside towns.

There was some signs of age and some times where I found some hair or the like in places but otherwise perfect.

Great location. Close to the lake and the cable car ( a few bus stops away). We reserved a Japanese room. It was nice that the futons were set up when we arrived. An extra mattress was added under the futon, so it was pretty comfortable to sleep on. The two shared bathrooms were clean and seemed to be available most of the time. Outdoor private onsen was an additional Y 3000 for 45 minutes and offered during check in. Dinner and breakfast at hotel were really good and half board was best choice, as there were no other restaurants nearby.

Amazing experience. Staff were extremely accommodating. The whole place was super cool and felt traditional but had any amenities you need. The onsens were better than imagined and the food was the cherry on top. Buses could take you to the pirate ship or hikes all within a 10 min drive. Very nice hotel. Loved the staff. They accommodated us so well even after having some trouble and checking in late. Our room was beautiful and luxurious with a splash of traditional culture. Able to instantly relax with one of their reserved private onsen, which was incredibly scenic and soothing btw. We purchased the half board dining experience and did not regret it one bit. The food included many varieties of traditional Japanese dishes. Conveniently located near convenience stores and bus stops. Nice quiet area with beautiful scenery. Would not hesitate to come back here on our next trip.

Perfect for what we needed: a place to stay overnight in Hakone. We opted for the private onsen and dinner. They were able to accommodate our dietary restrictions as well, which was a plus! The room was spacious and clean, but the pillows were extremely uncomfortable. There is not a lot around but the busses were easy to navigate and stopped right in front of the hotel.

This place was fine. It was a little difficult to get to via public transportation. The service was a little bit odd - the staff seemed stressed out which did not make for a very relaxing experience. They also contacted us multiple times prior to our arrival to ask about our travel plans even when we had not determined them yet, and it felt a bit stressful to have to communicate back and forth. Vegan breakfast and dinner set was amazing. Staff speak English (didn’t understand my Japanese at check in actually although I haven’t had that issue anywhere else.) The bath is open 24 hours a day so when jet lag woke me up at 3 AM I went down and had a bath. The open air bath is wonderful.

My only complaint is if you pick the cheaper economy room it’s very noisy due to doors opening and closing below you.

We loved our stay here. The man checking us in was so incredibly kind and warm and welcoming. He guided us to the most gorgeous spot nearby in the town and it was one of the highlights of our entire trip. He also made us origami to take home with us! He really made us feel welcome. A good location and price for the room. The room we booked was a shared bathroom. But we did not have much issues with it as we used the family room to shower as our room has toilet and sink. They have public baths that you can use as well as paid private baths. For the private baths you have to reserve the morning of if you don’t want to be left with super late time slot. The food served was great and we were stuffed every meal we had. The room we stayed in was also large with AC included. Overall it was a satisfying and relaxing stay.

Mount View Hakone exceeded our expectations! We stayed for two nights in a Japanese style room and had breakfast and dinner.

The meals were amazing with huge variety, giant portions and made using high quality ingredients. All meals were different each day and the service was excellent.

The public and private onsens were very nice. The public onsens are gender separated and open 23 hours a day with both a regular indoor heated bath and an outdoor natural hot spring bath.

There are a few private onsen rooms that you can book on the same day from afternoon until late evening. There was plenty of availability for a private bath on both nights of our stay. I would recommend booking a private onsen as its a nice experience.

The room was much bigger than we expected with a futon floor bed and a tatami floor with sliding windows overlooking the mountains. You're provided with Yukatas and slippers that you can wear throughout your whole stay. There is a private toilet in the room, which wasn't very clear on the listing, although there is no shower in the room.

The area is a bit out of the way from the main tourist attractions but there's a bus included in the Hakone free pass that stops right outside the hotel. Google maps was a bit rubbish around Hakone compared to other cities so you might want to add a bit of overhead to your travelling plans as it took us a while to figure out how to get there from Odawara station using the free pass.

While somewhat out of the way of most of Hakone's attractions, Mount View is located right by a bus stop, making for easy enough transit (though you can expect the busses to get pretty busy, especially on weekends). Both the in-house dining experience and the private onsen were well worth the extra costs.

Going to a ryokun is a must-do when you go to Japan and Mount View Hakone knocked it out of the park! it is right by a bus stop so it is convient to get to. The tatami rooms are so big and had TV and wifi! They had a tea set and tea you could make in your room! They even provided us with Yukatas to wear to the onsen. To my American pals there are no showers in your room so you have to use the onsen to wash. However, if you get there early or late enough there are family onsen rooms which let you shower and go in an onsen privatly. (it's like family bathrooms) You can also reserve private onsens with beautiful views like a bamboo forest! Me and my friend had a relaxing and fun time. I wish I could of tipped the staff but I know it's not culturally appropriate. Everyone was super polite and there were english instrutions in the room which really helped! Would definatly go again!

They offer a traditional japanese meal with considerations for dietary restrictions or food preferences, as long as you inform them ahead of time. The place has a very zen feeling since it is close to nature and far from the main area. They give complimentary red bean snacks and green tea in the room which is a very good combination. They also have an onsen bath which can be very helpful to reduce aches after a long day of exploring. Although it might be challenging if you want to explore the main area of hakone, or have big luggages since the only way there is via bus. Nonetheless, it is a hotel I will always book whenever visiting Hakone.

Phenomenal Food and Friendly Staff

I absolutely enjoyed my stay at this cozy ryokan! They offer public and private(reservation arranged after check in) outdoor baths here, I tried both and they were equally incredible experiences! The food overall has been an absolute delight from breakfast to dinner, my personal favorites have definitely been the raw fish dishes and the dessert, which was fresh fruit and a type of fruit jelly! The plum wine they serve for each dinner was another favorite of mine as well!

Accommodating to our needs - my boyfriend is vegetarian and we informed the hotel before our stay. They provided him with an amazing Japanese dinner that he loved.

Male and female onsens were great, really enjoyed using them. Private onsen was also excellent. We used it in the evening after dinner and was a great experience.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They showed us where were could explore around the local area, what restaurants and shops were open and helped find the buses we needed to take for our onward travel. They also held our luggage for a few hours after checkout whilst we explored Hakone.

Our traditional room was simple and clean, only issue was that the pillows were a bit flat.

10/10 is not enough to give this wonderful hotel. We came as part of our honeymoon trip to Japan and can’t recommend it enough. The service is top-notch, the superior rooms are absolutely beautiful with rolltop bath. We used the private onsen which was very beautiful and relaxing and also enjoyed dinner on the tatami mats in the restaurant which was superb. Would love to come back if I ever return to Japan! A lovely place to escape Tokyo. This is a very classy ryokan - make sure you pay extra and get the meals (we had the dinner and it was an extraordinary feast). It isn’t cheap, but is totally indulgent. If you want to splurge I recommend it. We got a very large double room with v comfy futons and lovely view. Traditional design with tatami mats etc. and the private onsen was tremendous. There’s not a lot you can do in the township itself, so relax in the ryokan or book some side trips for views of Mt Fuji

We stayed in a Japanese Style room; the room was large and clean and the futons were surprisingly comfortable. The hotel itself was a little difficult to get to as a typhoon had closed part of the bus route, so it took two buses and over 90 minutes to get there from Odawara Station. However the staff were helpful with emailing information with directions on how to reach the hotel prior to our stay, so we were aware of the route change. We also experienced the private onsen which was lovely.

The negatives of this hotel for us were mainly the noise from outside through the windows on a night, the location as it wasn't near anything of interest (to us) and we found the buses to be unreliable and infrequent. Also, we found the random requirement to hand the room key to reception whenever we left the room pointless. This was especially inconvenient when we nearly missed the bus waiting for other people to check out on a morning.

This place is not near anything in Hakone other than a bus stop. It was about a 20 minute bus ride to anything we wanted to do. It felt more like a big hotel than a Ryokan though the rooms were comfortable and clean. They were wonderfully accomodating about our request for vegan meals and the food was great. They have ping pong and a giant stuffed bear just off the lobby which my kids loved. Overall a good stay but not all that central a location and not the Ryokan feel we were looking for. But a nice place other than that.

This is what I would call \"Glamping\" versus a traditional hotel experience... but if you want a hotel - best not to book a Ryokan. Our experience was great - we traveled as a family of 4 and booked a family room for the experience. This included 4 futons on the floor, along with a tea, plus a full dinner and breakfast. We loved our room which was very traditional. We were provided with Kimonos, toe socks and shoes so we could walk around the property. We booked the private onsen which was a great hot-tub type experience with a bamboo forest in the background. The staff was fantastic and very accommodating. I can't say we had a lot of sleep on the futons, but we signed up for the experience which was well worth it. Definitely recommend to those with a desire to try the experience.

The whole experience was amazing. From the onsen (bath), the traditional room, to the incredible breakfast and dinner dining experience. The staff was very friendly and most spoke some English. fro desk staff all spoke English. They offer private baths that you book and pay for when you check in or hi to the open one. I opted for the open one which I had to myself. I went both mornings around 6:15 am before my 7:30 breakfast and no one else was there. The meals were incredible and beautifully set out. I was able to try things I would never know to order in a restaurant. So many choices and was always full. It is right at the bus stop too so we didn't have to walk more than a few steps to the door. We loved dressing in the traditional robes (yakuta) to go to the baths and for dining. It was so worth it to go all in and have this experience.

A traditional Japanese experience that is worth having. The staff is friendly and will teach you how to wear the yukata. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast are unique. The public onsen is relaxing and was not crowded at all during our stay. Transportation is very convenient—there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel...makes your traveling easy. Traditional ryokan

The dinner and breakfast was amazing. Paid extra for the private onsen but well worth it. Bed was a little hard but seems like all Japanese mattresses are firm. Staff were attentive and friendly. Close to bus stops. Would happily stay here again.

Amazing breakfast and dinner with lots of English speaking staff. The rooms were large and clean and they provided tea and cookies for each guest. The hot spring was amazing and very large. We went during a quiet time and had the hot spring for ourselves. The volcanic hot spring had a sulphur smell (rotten eggs) which was different... Definitely felt like I needed to wash off the smell before leaving. Overall, will go there again.

Perfect Place Nestled in Hakone

Very nice hotel / ryokan nestled in the middle of Hakone, right next to a major bus stop so it's easy to get out and see the other sights in the area. Amazing hot springs, both indoor & outdoor. The Japanese breakfast was so good, really nice how they take care of you there. I also got a massage done in my room, that felt super-relaxing.
