What an amazing hotel. The highlight is the onsen, absolutely incredible. They have 2 onsen rooms, male and female. Both rooms have 2 onsens, indoors and outdoors, as well as a sauna. Changing rooms are clean with hair dryers, towels, lockers and other amenities. Staff were very kind, allowed us to borrow umbrellas when it was raining, they have a giftshop inside too. 10/10

This was recommended to us by our tour guides in Japan and it is a fantastic hotel. The food in the restaurant caters to every background and everything we tried was delicious. The hotel is older but has heritage and a great vibe because of it, and is very clean. The service was excellent as well. I went for a run one morning in the surrounding area and it is very quiet and enjoyable for a morning run or walk. Highly recommended in a very quiet \"town\" of Hakone.

If you want to see Hakone and experience nature, this is NOT the hotel for you. I was disappointed to realise it is completely remote from all activities and services. No shuttle or reasonable access to get anywhere other than a corner store and couple of small restaurants on foot.

This is a beautiful resort hotel right off the golf course, and in a lovely village near to Sengokuhara town. You can walk to the Grasslands area, the Botanical Wetlands, and Sengokuhara easily from here, and there are several dining options nearby on the village too. Clean, lovely facility with Onsen, friendly staff and great service.

Onsen does not allow tattoos. It would have been helpful to know this in advance. Older hotel with very expensive dining in comparison to everywhere else we stayed while in Japan. Not many amenities for the cost and still a significant distance to Fuji.

We had an excellent relaxing visit in Hakone at the Prince Hotel. The Japanese bath is exceptionally beautiful, has an outdoor tub from which the sunrise over the mountains can be seen. We enjoyed the extensive breakfasts- don't pass them up. We don't golf or play tennis, but used this resort setting as a base for sightseeing and hiking the region's mountain trails.

The hotel itself was very isolated so unless you have a car, it’s not convenient for you to venture out to anywhere. It’s a 40-50min drive to downtown hakone where all the shops & restaurants are so you’ll have to rely on public transportation and call the hotel to pick you up at bus stop when you get to near hotel. They only have one option for dinner which is approximately 6500yen per person with only 4 entree options and if you want beef, it’s additional. It includes buffet (not really big, 3 sushi options, small salad bar, small desserts & bread bar & coffee & tea. The food was ok & not worth the price. If food was better, you can justify this. We decided second night that we would pick up something at Lawson (bus stop drop off) to pick up some dinner to heat up at hotel & we brought it to them to ask where we could heat up the food & they said that it was not possible which sort of puts a bitter taste in your mouth as the cost of the hotel was quite expensive and you would think that customers would have access to using a microwave. They had coffee in the room so second morning, I asked for coffee refill and they directed me to vending machine which again put a bitter taste to our stay. Breakfast buffet was good, not great but we opted for breakfast included room rate. The views were great from the dining room & our room faced the golf course which was nice. We would surely come back to stay in hakone but would chose a different hotel.

Hotel is decent, nearby Susuki grasslands are a sight to behold but no coin laundry/ microwave/ vegetarian food options may make it difficult for some families. Onsen is decent, tennis courts/golf facilities are good too. Although overall staff behavior was kind and polite but front desk’s plain refusal when asked for a water bottle at the time of checkout definitely didn’t leave a good mark.

It’s a big, old world hotel.
We probably booked the cheapest of the rooms, which was still very expensive for what it was: a bit stuffy, old 2 twin beds room, no television, tiny old bathroom. I guess the high price was because of the holiday weekend. The view was very nice though (on the golf practice and mountains), and the Onsen was very pleasant. The staff was friendly and helpful, but communication was complicated as no one really spoke English.

This is a great hotel to visit for Hakone and it's onsens/ hot springs. I highly recommend staying with this hotel. Staff is beyond kind and accommodating. There is a French restaurant with a once in a lifetime view and food courses that I would recommend splurging on. Great stay.

The rooms were large closet size, the hotel was extremely outdated and there was no transportation to the lake. There might have been some practice golf at a driving range but no golfing. The hot springs were down due to the typhoon. Basically there was nothing to do and we were stuck...Staff spoke LIMITED English and there was one dining room for bus crowds and a few Japanese groups. The view of the mountains was fantastic...

The hotel is located 800 meter from nearest bus station, not a big deal but if you have to push 3 trollies up hill it doesn't make a great holiday start.
The buffet is very expensive so make sure it is included in reservation because there is not much around apart from a 7 eleven so you end up paying 70USD per person for a standard dinner buffet.

Beautiful, but food over budget

The hotel was lovely and service exceptional. Grounds and scenery spectacular. The restaurant was pricey with no alternative close by. I have to admit our dinner and wait service was superb, just beyond our budget. One issue... the shuttle service from the train station and local bus stop was not clear to us (or another group of travelers) . We did not know it was available based on Hotels.com info. We rolled suitcases .4 miles up and down hills and over a gravel road. THEN we found out the was a service with gratious, helpful staff.

This was the worst experience with any hotel all over the world. the room is not matching the pictures shown on the website. They kept me in a room in the basement, with the pretext that they are fully booked. very small , the smell of the bathroom couldnt make me sleep all the night. the carpet is very dirty. The Onsen they described on Expedia doesnt match the reality, it s only a small bath with very bad smell. The breakfast was terrible, no varieties and all is Japanese style. I dont recommend anybody to visit this hotel, it s very expensive comparing with other excellent hotels.

One night of fun in Hakone

This is a very nice hotel golf course. The view is very nice outside but the hotel location is far out of the main road and main transportation. To get to the hotel you will have to drive a long extended winding road; not accessible to any convenient store nearby. The dinner buffet is outrageously expensive as Y5800 yen a person. However breakfast is reasonable rate with the booking. The breakfast spread is your typical Asian warm buffet with breads, scramble egg, sausages; salad bar and fish. My husband do not eat fish so he had to work with just the curry sauce and rice, few sausages and bacon.
We had three twin bed for three people; small and hard bed. Room was hot during our stay because they turn off the AC if its cold outside.
Onsen is separate gender; Women's onsen is very nice and comfortable ...

Secluded gateway to near Hakone

We had a lovely time at this hotel - the beds were good, rooms were clean, onsen was very relaxing. The only things to warn about are the location- we didn't have an issue but for older folks who plan to take the bus system, there's a big hill to climb to get to the hotel (5-10mins) if walking from the bus stop. There are some restaurants around and a Lawson beside the bus stop. a good location overall close to the T bus which takes you to togendai station to catch the ferry or cable car. We didn't eat at the hotel and cannot comment.

The hotel condition is pretty good and there is a golf court in the backyard. However, the location is pretty far and you need to walk about 7-10 minutes from the bus station to the front door of the hotel. There is no restaurant nearby to choice except the hotel offered and the dinner is pretty expensive.

Not worth the nghtmare journey

This hotel is only really suitable if you have a car or are prepared to fork out for a long and expensive taxi ride as it is in the back of beyond. Otherwise on the basis of our experience we would advise against booking this for just one night as it isn't worth all the hassle of travel. Our experience: we,arrived after a long and tortuous journey. Having been given a number to call for pick up from the bus stop it was out of service. We would have been marooned in the middle of nowhere but for the kind action of the shop assistant at a nearby convenience store who somehow after several attempts or a different number managed to get through to the hotel. The nightmare continued when we asked about dinner to be told there were no tables available! As it happened it was my birthday so I had to play on this to persuade them that they couldn't surely expect guests arriving at 7pm to find an alternative (and what alternative would there have been but to back track to the convenience store for a few basics in the dark?).. Although one member of staff had good English, several had very poor English language skills and couldn't even understand the very basics. As many others have previously commented the place is a bit tired and dated and needs a makeover. The best bit for us was the outdoor onsen with the backdrop of the mountains -the real saving grace of the whole trip - so rising early the next morning we made use of this before having an overpriced breakfast and leaving.

Beautiful hotel and resort, highly recommended

We stayed for one night in early April. The entire experience from check in to check out were outstanding, and left a great impression. There were beautiful mountain views every where, in our room, in the dining area, and even in the souvenir shop. The location itself is close to the very beautiful Venetian glass museum which we also enjoyed very much. Wish we could have stayed for longer, and will most certainly be back again in the future!

This property is basically a golf resort and pretty much out of the way from anything. The Hakone bus will drop you at a nearby convenience store, and the cashier will call the hotel to send its shuttle. Unless you plan to rent a car, this place is not a good idea. The dinner buffet was okay but at 55JPN overpriced.

Quiet location with beautiful views & onsen

As a family of 3 we really enjoyed our short stay at Hakone Sengokuhara Prince Hotel. We particularly the onsen within the hotel. Room was big by Japanese standards, clean and comfortable. We loved that it also had free parking and the hotel gave a list of local places to go eat (which we loved & went to 2 of them!). Also if you are like me and get worried in the booking confirmation that the note thru Expedia says that there is no hotel check-in desk, it's not correct, they have a full check-in counter just like any other hotel !

(Almost) perfect stay with only minor blemishes

Hakone Sengokuhara is an excellent option to spend some time during your stay in Hakone.

The positives are: the hotel is very atmospheric, it is located in a quiet area (not ideal if you don't have your own transport), clean and comfortable. Even on a rainy day it helps you enjoy your time in Hakone, and the restaurant (though a little pricey for the dinner menu) offers a fantastic cultural experience in Japanese cuisine (also at breakfast). Both restaurants have vast panoramic views of nearby National Park and Golf course. All other guests seemed to be Japanese which we quite enjoyed, being in a \"local\" hotel rather than an international tourism business.

The (not very disturbing) negatives: the room, though very quiet, clean and well designed, could have done with a little bit more width to appear truly comfortably sized, but the size was overall acceptable. Most staff, though always polite and helpful, could do with some basic English or another European language. I tried to find out about tea ceremonies in the area and failed despite a dictionary. On the other hand I agree, I should have done a little more homework studying Japanese! The onsen is well appointed, stylish and clean. Both pools are 40 degrees, I wished there was a cooler one for some vasoconstriction, after a while I was getting a little dizzy.

Price at AUD 180 for 3 adults per night was appropriate for level of service and overall experience.

This is probably a great place for a weekend getaway with your golf buddies. For non-golf enthusiasts like us, this hotel is basically a quiet place to relax. Although it's close by to the bus stop, it can be quite a distance if you intend to walk while tugging onto some luggage. Do ask the hotel for free shuttle to/from the bus stop.

温泉は露天風呂が最高

部屋は綺麗で露天風呂も冬の寒い中長湯するのに丁度いい温度。
朝食バイキングは種類も多くて眺めの良いグリルでちょうだいしました。
ただし夕食の前菜バイキングは料理がなかなか出てこない状態で催促が必要でした。

I stayed here for one night, and we were delighted. Our room faced out to the golf course, simply beautiful scene right in front of our room. The hotel is classy and filled with country vibe. It is very close to the Segokuhara pampas grass field, a good hiking place. Overall, highly recommended.
