The owner, Messr Roland Heninger, and his staff were kind, charming, and did everything to make my stay enjoyable. The location is perfect: 5 minutes walk from train from airport, metro, Notre Dame, La Sorbonne. I do not know what prompted negative reviews in past, but the management is clearly trying its best for its guests. There is construction on back/north side of building, which was noisy 1st day of arrival, so request room facing the front.

The best place to stay in Paris

We had a wonderful stay at this historic hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Our room and shared shower were very clean. We stayed four nights and enjoyed the opportunity to wash a load of laundry while we rested before our dinner reservations nearby. The location was absolutely the best! Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay.

The property owner/manager who is a male comes on a little strong and seems rude but that just may be the way he talks and comes across. A female employee was trying to help me and he started talking to her what seemed very rude to her and she was just helping me. Then when he talked to me I thought he was being rude but I don’t think he has the customer service we are accustomed to in America or for example Japan who are so delicate when speaking and gracious when communicating. Everything was good about the hotel and the room. Only hard part is no elevator and climbing 3 floors tiny steps. I don’t know how older people do it because you could go rolling down. But location was excellent, room was clean, private bathroom was clean, quiet neighborhood, super close from the tootos hop on hop off bus stop, close to metro and so many bakeries and restaurants. I visited a very popular one called Isabelle and there was a huge line to buy croissants and pastries. The exterior of the hotel needs plants hanging from the windows like the hotel next door and more love poured into the dining room and kitchen.

It is convenient location for tourists. Metro station is close by. I will not call this hotel. At the best, an average guest house. There is no elevators on 6 story hotel? My room was tiny and the shower was very cramped. Positive - average location and breakfast. Negative - expensive for the condition of the hotel.

El Hotel está muy bien ubicado muy cerca de lugares emblemáticos ( a unos 15 minutos andando del Museo de Louvre). Es mas bien un Hostal no un Hotel, entrada angosta, sin escaleras, propiedad familiar. Limpio pero ojo sin escaleras, las habitaciones tienen algunas baños privado y en los pasillos hay un baño compartido para las habitaciones que no tienen baño. Es una opción barata es una ciudad como Paris tan cara. El servicio es bueno. Hostal de paso para 1 o 2 días y con presupuesto ajustado.

The room was everything I hoped it would be. Great WiFi, a prime location, and a good price made this an excellent stay. The only thing to be aware of is that the hotel only has a set of steep stairs. If you get put on the top floor, like I did, you'll have to hike a bit to get to your room. But it's only an issue if you're affected by that kind of thing. Overall, really enjoyed my stay. I would come back.

Great stay!

I was seeking something affordable and simple for a few nights in Paris and this place was perfect. I had my own room with a sink, bed, and a wardrobe. It had a great location, easy to get to from the airport and easy to get around the city. The breakfast was also quite tasty. I ended up arriving super late due to a train delay and was able to check in at their other hotel just around the corner!

Our room was on the 5th floor, just stairs and no lift. Also, no bathroom in the room!... I noticed it when I arrived, it was written in small letters in my booking so I didn't want to complain, it wasn't worth it... however when you book a HOTEL, you don't even expect a room with no bathroom... this should have been alerted somehow... it was super disappointing, I felt somehow deceived. Also, the breakfast was not good at all...
In general, we paid for a hotel, but it was not it, it was more close to a hostel or a residential.

The only good thing about it was the young managers, and some of the staff, really friendly and helpful, however... it was super disappointing

Greeted by Rolone the receptionist, the owner who was very warm kind and helpful ., left lugguage to go out unil room was ready , called that we were returning after
Closure so Briggita left us keys to pick up at a reception of a nearby hotel . Left lugguage in laundry room , only took stuff out for one night so that was inconvenient .Room was on 6 th flr with no lift so thats a disadvantage if you are travelling heavy . Better call in advance to ask for a lower floor if possible .

Great location but poor comfort

This is a family owned hotel which gives it a charming atmosphere. The free breakfast was wonderful and the location fabulous. They also offered free laundry services. We had difficulty because it was a hot summer day and they don't have air conditioning or an elevator. Very narrow winding stairs which makes managing luggage very difficult. Rustic rooms.

Excellent location in the Latin Quarter.

I was only there overnight, but I would definitely recommend it to travelers for overnight or longer. It is a small, family-owned hotel, ideally located, within walking distance of the Cluny Museum (de Moyen Age), Sorbonne, Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Luxembourg gardens and near a couple of METRO stops that will take you anywhere in Paris.

I've been in that area before for longer stays, but this was a pleasant, charming change of pace. They still have rooms with shared baths, but a room with private bath is still very reasonable. The surprise was that guests may use their kitchen facilities (I did) and their laundry (I didn't, but saw someone who was). The staff was pleasant and attentive to my needs.

We knew the hotel had no elevator when we booked it, but we were hoping for the best. We did not get it. If carrying your luggage up four or five flights of spiral stairs will be a problem for you look elsewhere. On our first night, there were obvious signs on construction in progress inside our room (wires sticking out of the wall, the heating unit leaned up against a wall, but not connected); the room was cold. By the second night, the heating unit had been installed but there was no instructions on how to adjust it, so the room was so hot that we had to open a window. The bathroom has been updated and had a nice shower and heat in the floor. The breakfast was generous and delicious.

We stayed only 1nite in this hotel but it was great. Room was clean, breakfast was good and free WiFi which made our stay more enjoyable. The girl in the reception was very helpful, gave us all the information that we needed even she borrowed her own phone charger cuz ours wasn't compatable. She was a sweet girl from Lithuania. We were very tired and exhausted when we arrived at the hotel but her positive attitude and helpfulness refresh us. We recommend this hotel as the best.

Nice hotel in perfect location.

My wife and I were wanting a good location hotel that had easy access to the Metro and was cheap but simply was a place to sleep to see the sights. This was exactly that. Nothing fancy or amazing but clean and cheap. Breakfast and WiFi complementary was great. Noise was a little annoying but was easy to overcome with ear plugs. Literally a 5 min walk from Notre Dame and Metro. I would definitely come back to this hotel for the price.

Good budget hotel, great location in Latin Quarter

I recommend this hotel to any budget traveler with simple needs. The excellent location makes this a top choice, as it's worth a lot to be able to walk to major sites like Notre Dame, the Cluny, and the Seine. Within a few blocks there is a large tourist area with shops and restaurants, as well as busses, metro stops, and a local open air market. It was like a hybrid hotel & hostel: guests didn't really interact, but the staff were more helpful than typical hotel managers; rooms were tiny, and several floors had shared bathroom and shower; breakfast was included, & guests were allowed to do laundry for free. A bulletin board had advice for tourists: how to reach sites using public transportation; what days museums were closed, and when they were free; recommended restaurants. There was free wifi and one wired internet computer for guests. Note: a typical French breakfast is croissant, bread, and jam--expect this at Hotel Marignan and everywhere else in France!

Better as a hostel than a hotel

Toilet is shared with rest of the floor of the building. There's no elevator. Had to move up 5 flights of stairs lugging large baggages. Wifi was decent. Had to talk to owner to get moved down closer to the bottom level. Owner nicely gave us breakfast to take to room for next day since we would leave too early for the airport. His english was decent but language barrier still plays so hard to understand him at times. BTW, house rules are you can't bring your own food into your own room.

Fantastic location in the Latin Quarter of Paris. Close to bus stops, cafes, book shops, Notre Dame, markets, Seine River. The hotel is old style in the sense you get personal service from the owners, you can use the kitchen and laundry and come as you please. They do try to make you feel homely. Choose a room with private bathroom.

Great hotel, great value for what you get!

Hotel is not top of the line, no elevator and 5 floors but it is more than $100 per night cheaper than the \"nicer\" hotels nearby. Awesome location! Also, we loved saving money on the room AND having access to a small kitchen and laundry. We were a family of 4 traveling on less than 20 lbs each stayed here for 3 nights. Bought several meals at nearby grocer and ate them at the hotel. I also thought that the owner and staff were AMAZINGLY nice and helpful.

We booked a four bed family room with private bath. Basically you get what you pay for. Room was basic clean and tidy. No lift. Owner was helpful and friendly. The location is superb. For 145 euros including breakfast for four this hotel gave us great value for money. Parking nearby. Would book again if going to Paris but not sure we would in the height of summer due to no air conditioning. But as I said at the start you get what you pay for and this hotel offers a good product at a very reasonable price.

When we first checked in, we met Nelson. He was amazing. Very friendly and helpful. The guy that was the owner/manager not pleasant at all. We had problems with our wifi and suggested he try to reset the router. He insisted that there were no problems and that it was our device. We all had cell phones two of us had Kindles and I had a PC. NONE of us could connect. Then he contradicted himself by saying that there was a man there fixing the internet. The wifi gave us problems on and off all the entire time we were there. Even my friend from France said he was unpleasant.
Not complaining but we were at the top of a spiral staircase with 93 steps and no elevator.

We stayed at this hotel in late sept mainly due to its location and we were quite happy with it. This is actually a classic bread and breakfast though the name is hotel. The location is unbeatable. its within 5 mins walk from St. Michel underground train station, 8 mins from Notre Dame church, 8 mins from Saine river bank.The hotel has no lift but thats not surprising given its a B&B. We stayed at the ground floor luckily. Breakfast was very basic - juice, croissant and bread with coffee/tea/choco. Staff could have been friendlier though. Extremely curt and terse. The sense of traditional welcoming hospitality was not felt - one could say these guys are no nonsense B&B owners. As a said at the beginning, the main thing is the location for this hotel. OVerall a good experience.

Moving to France

The hotel itself is old, and not in the best condition; however, the staff is excellent. They went out of their way to help with my luggage, which was a lot because I was moving to France. They took care of everything for me, including a nice French breakfast, wifi, directions, and a clean hotel room. My French is not the greatest either, but they went out of their way to make sure I was settled, fed, and rested.

The staff was nice and courteous. Great location. Not far from the RER. And lots of shops and restaurants near by.
I was disappointed that the hotel rooms do not have their own shower. No lift. So we had to walk up to 4th floor. I was exhausted.

Simple, has what we needed

A very basic hotel. Our room had recently been renovated, and was clean. Hardwood floors in the room, so a very clean floor. No lift, the stairs got old. The staff was helpful. Two desk clerks were native English speakers. Convenient to public transport, and can walk to dozens of restaurants. 10 minute walk to Notre Dame. It is a one star hotel, though. Given the length of our stay, we wished we had chosen a more stars hotel. Next time, we will stay here for half our stay, then upgrade for the last few nights.

no real knowledge as they move us to another hotel

we arrived in Paris for our one and only day (don't ask why we planned so poorly) and when we got to this hotel, the man greeted us and started speaking very quickly before we could even tell him our name! He explained there had been a mistake and he was overbooked--but the good news was that he found us a different hotel about 3/4 miles away. The good news is that worked out and we stayed there--a pleasant quaint hotel called the Gay Lussac--not very fancy but it got the job done. We have NO idea what the rooms were like at the hotel Marignan because we only saw the entrance area. But we found the gentlemen was very abrupt and arrogant--he did help us but his personality was so off putting we were actually happy we got to stay somewhere else!

My rating of the rooms cleanliness is bogus because we never saw it--i just rated it so I could submit this form!

Great value

The hotel was perfectly located for what I wanted and it was a great value. I had a shared bathroom and shower but there was never any wait. Staff seemed welcoming and helpful.

Owner/operator had construction going on across the street as well as construction going on inside his establishment. We had wall panels and removed light fixtures in our room, panels removed fixtures stayed. We started the day with construction workers moving wall panels, etc. from the breakfast room. Rooms were cleaned satisfactorily but the carpet in the hotel was filthy. Telephones in the rooms won't allow you to call long distance, owner was extremely short-tempered, bordered on being rude. Location great but cannot recommend hotel

It was poor stay, i didnt like it. Possibly the worst place i stayed. Owner rude n moody! The only thing good is very close to station n notre dame, otherwise not worth a penny :((

Great priced hotel

I read a few negative reviews on this hotel and went slightly nervous , however its a smashing little hotel great price ideal location and very helpful staff , I stayed in the single room and found for the price it was just the right size , the shared bathroom and toilets were always clean and my towels were changed on a daily basis. my friend stayed in the double room and was very impressed by the hotel as well , the breakfast is free and very basic but its a good start to the day , I would highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely neighborhood, friendly staff.

Really great location in the 5th arrondissement, easily walkable to three metro stops and serviced by a number of buses on St. Michel and St. Germain. I booked a single room, with a shared shower and WC, which was on the 5th floor. No elevator, but it was good exercise taking the stairs up every day! All very clean. Room itself was spacious, shower room was tiny. My room was right next to the shared bathroom, so I could often hear the whirring of the fan or water running. The staff were all very friendly. Not all of them speak English, though the manager speaks English and German as well as French. He recommended attractions and the best value transport tickets. I would highly recommend this place, but if you're in a single room, be prepared to climb the stairs!

great location - in the Latin area

The Hotel Marignan was a great choice for us on our recent visit to Paris. Situated in the Latin area, it was close (walking distance) to Notre Dame, Sainte-Chappel and Le Conciergerie.... And a good number of friendly little eating places. The hotel doesn't have an elevator, so request a lower floor room if this could be an issue. The staff were veryhelpful and friendly.

Great place to stay

I had a great time here. I stay in Paris a lot as my parents live in France and am often passing through. this is a perfect location. You can get directly to the airport from here on the RER and also direct to Austerlitz station and it is less than 5 minutes walk from Notre Dame. You couldn't ask for a better location. The area is nice, lots of shops and restaurants and you are walking distance from the centre. I left early to catch a train before breakfast was served and they brought breakfast to my room the night before. This was perfect. For the price, it is fabulous you couldn't ask for more really. It is clean. you don't have the bathroom en suite but there are so few rooms on the corridor that you are near them anyway and they are clean, there is a hairdryer in the room and a sink which is great. It's all you need and it is a nice quiet area too. I have stayed further out for the same price without breakfast in crumby hotels in districts that feel unsafe, so this was an extremely pleasant surprise and the owner was lovely to boot - an even rarer find in Paris!
