I stayed at Hotel Bonalba at the beginning of December as a short getaway with my husband. While the hotel is located in a beautiful area, it is very inconvenient if you want to visit the city centre, with Uber trips costing around €30 each way.

Unfortunately, our overall experience was disappointing. The lifts felt unsafe, as the doors close immediately when the first person steps inside, and there are no cameras in the lifts or outside the rooms, which made us feel uneasy. The hotel also seemed very understaffed, and many staff members did not speak English, making communication difficult.

As a vegetarian, I found the food options extremely limited. On our last night, dinner was particularly poor due to a large group of around 90 people attending a sports event. Guests who were not part of this group were placed in a small corner while staff focused almost entirely on serving the group. This felt very unfair, especially as we had paid for an all-inclusive package and expected equal service. It’s also worth noting that the all-inclusive package does not include the minibar or snacks such as crisps, which was disappointing.

Overall, this stay was a big let-down and a waste of money. I would not return to this hotel nor recommend it to others.

Hotel is located in nice,quiet,safe area.

Great activities for children in the swimming pool however it did seem dirty around the pool during the day- would suggest to provide more bins and also clean the pool areas during the day..

Room (suite) was spacious and clean however no locks on the bathroom sliding door. The was a small kitchenette however no plates/pans or cuttlery provided...

Difficult with the parking within and around the hotel...

On arrival check in took 50mins to get the keys for the room considering it was 3 customers in front of us...

Lovely swimming pool and main public areas were lovely .Incredibly rude receptionist on check in; yawning and so unfriendly; ruined our stay via first impression.The lady on departure was such a contrast (Maria), so wish we had been met by her.Rather expensive and the receptionist wanted us to give a deposit for the bath plug! Internet connectivity poor.Sadly wouldn't want to stay again.

This place is ridiculous. They built a hotel in the middle of nowhere and can only get there by car, then charge you €15 to park each day! The room thermostat was faulty and kept making an electrical buzzing every 30 seconds so we didn’t get any sleep. When I reported it, they said not to use my preferred temperature (yep!), yet it still made the issue the rest of the time.
Cardboard has more flavour than ANY food, somehow even packaged sweets.

We paid for an upgraded room and got a view of the carpark!

The door and frame was hanging off being prised open and moved.

There were horrible filler repairs that looked like an elephant applied it with their trunk.

The room was tired and shabby. This isn’t a nice place to stay, maybe if your work is paying for it and free for you to stay, just don’t expect any sleep..

Rooms were simple and nice, apart from the bathroom that had many black hairs sprinkled around it throughout my stay (before and after cleaning). I put a do not disturb/clean sign on the door after my moisturiser went missing. Evening 'entertainment' included live bands in the evening until 11:30pm, and the walls are paper thin so you get a private concert! Food in the cafe was very average and expensive with not great vegetarian options, but the hotel breakfast was good. Staff overall were really friendly and nice.

Booked in March , trip cancelled due to Covid 19. This hotel said to me theyd not charge me due to the circunstamces .hotels .com informed me they wont refund me.

Yes it was a non refundable rate,but youd think given flights cancelled and the hotel closed up until a week before theyd use common sense.alas no.

Food ie snacks pool side also very good .did not use main restaurant as were mainly three/ four course meals which being small eaters we though we would leave more than we ate.very large pool with ample sun beds .very quite this time of year .the hotel caters mainly for golfers as a golf course completely surrounds the hotel .
You definitely need a car or some sort of transport .hotel does provide some shuttle buses to local beaches at a cost of 10 euros each which is a lot cheaper than local taxis.
No atmosphere in evenings at this time of year.
Overall fantastic hotel ,friendly staff spotlessly clean ,but just too far away from local amenities.
Ideal if you are a golfer.

I recently had a wonderful stay at this hotel with my fiance. It is set in a lovely area, the pool is large and very nice with plenty of space for sun loungers. Another thing that striked me about the hotel was that the clientele ranged from families, couples, to groups of friends and it felt like we were all in the right place so you can go here for any type of trip. It's not too far from the airport which was handy.
Furthermore the staff are very helpful, we had a personal issue which the staff went above and beyond to help us resolve. Definitely recommend this place.

Had no choice but to hire a car. No transport links nowhere near anywhere. The larger in the hotel was vile. What entertainment there was was only on for about 45 minutes and not in English. The food was cold and mostly unrecognised. The music played in the background was depressing. In general the holiday people looked sad and fed up. Like me !! Bad management this could be a beautiful hotel

Arrived at midnight went to room and it smelt sweaty and stale but we stayed in it that night. Next morning went to reception and staff swapped our room with huffs and puffs, next room nice. But cracked mug next to kettle which I asked to be changed, it was, but the next day after room service the mug was back. Staff not helpful or friendly......it seemed everything was too much trouble and not helpful, didn't make us feel welcomed..

In the middle of no where

Some staff were lovely, especially in the dining area. However reception was quite rude at times. I was not given the room I booked and told two different versions as to why this was. The hotel is really geared up for Spanish people, entertainment starts at 11pm, pool parties with drunk parents & teenagers till 1.45am. Rooms were ok, carpets filthy.

The hotel was well kept and swimming facilities are great.
As we picked croissant at breakfast we inquired the kind of oil that is being used and found out that lard was being used instead of corn or canola oil. Since we eat Halal it was shock that a 4 star hotel using lard for their food preparation.
Four star hotel used butter or corn oil for Croissant preparation and i would request that the Hotel management should look into this since a lot of Muslim do not eat port or pork based food.

GOLF HOTEL

hotel was a long way from any where taxi had to be taken to get around not cheap. Food was very disappointing.
Hotel is used for lots of private parties and they seem to be top priority, meaning the restaurant was closed at lunch time's and one evening. Carmen (waitress) was very good to us informing us on what was happening where the management should of been putting notices up informing the guests.
We did not get the twin room we had booked.
Expedia recommended this hotel but they did not give me any information about destination and locality which If they had of done I would not of selected this hotel.

The hotel is clean and reasonably comfortable. The food isn't great, we took half board but would do B&B next time. This is a quiet location so if you're looking for night life go somewhere else.

We stayed at Bonalba for a week and it we lived it. The staff is very helpful, the family rooms are comfortable and the facilities and food are very good. Although it is a bit far from the beach we had a rented car so this wasn't an issue for us. It would be far better it the hotel offered parking for free instead of the €6 surcharge though given the location. But this shouldn't put you off as there's always parking on the road if you're willing to walk for a bit. However overall we had fantastic time and we lived it so thank you Bonalba

Pretty grim - a 2* hotel at best

I arrived here for a 3 night stay, half board in May. As soon as I arrived it was clear this hotel is barely 2*, & definitely nowhere near to 4*. The location is awful. Its in the middle of a valley surrounded by polytunnel farms. There's no scenery whatsoever. Its also a long drive from anywhere interesting. The building itself is dated & frankly unattractive. It completely lacks any atmosphere whatsoever, probably because most people are out all day on the golf course. It doesn't feel like anything is happening & there's no 4* vibe at all. The corridors are pitch black with motion sensitive lighting, so it feels really grim walking to your room or to other parts of the hotel. The rooms are a very beigey, at bring to mind an old Travelodge rather than a 4*hotel. The lighting is fluoro tubes, so really harsh and bright. The bed was comfortable but that's about all this whole hotel has going for it.

I went to look at the gym, which is in a converted bedroom on the fifth floor. There are a few tired bikes & some mats, plus one piece of resistance equipment. I then went to look at the thalasso spa pool, which is in some sort of bizarre marquee in the garden, attached to the hotel (I presume in high season they open it up so its outdoors?). They charge 8 euros for the spa, & at best its akin to a council leisure centre facility. Not nice. The food is awful, greasy and overcooked. I ended up leaving first thing the next morning, because I refused to stay somewhere so bad!!!

A nice hotel but we stayed at a very quiet time, just after Xmas and should probably have been in Alicante. Taxi fare into Alicante centre is 25 euros each way.
No caffeinated coffee in room and reception said that's all they provide.(So they provided some more)
Good for weddings, golf and conferences and when its sunbathing weather.

We stayed at Hotel Bonalba for just one night and really enjoyed our experience there. The pool was excellent for adults and kids alike; we all had a great time relaxing at the pool all day. We took a break from the fun for a late afternoon lunch on the outdoor patio. It was yummy and the staff did a great job taking care of us. Not wanting to leave the hotel, we ordered room service for dinner. We had ordered a cheese pizza but ours came with ham. The staff who delivered it said the kitchen had made it incorrectly and we could have a different one if we wanted. We were very hungry and tired, so we just picked off the ham. It still tasted good. :) The room was comfortable, clean and roomy. We had a great night's sleep. The breakfast buffet the following morning was well stocked with lots of options, a perfect way to start our day. We would definitely stay there again!

Terrible Food, empty area, nothing around. Nothing was open, and when it was open the food was terrible. Had to drive for miles to find a good restaurant, or any activities. This is simply for the avid golf lovers who want to be permanently on the golf course. There were marks on the walls and the carpets was disgusting. Power also went down in the Room.

I book this hotel as a last minute deal, one of the main reasons was the price and trip adviser rating. Taxi ride from the airport was Euro. checking was fast and easy, Room was clean and bathroom was of a high standard with lovely powerful shower, bed had memory foam mattress and was extremely comfy, mini fridge and kettle in the room but no tea bags etc. Negatives, Main guessed were Spain and french and is reflected in the food, ie high sugar cereal, patisseries and cakes at breakfast, would have been nice to have a high fiber choice. very high proportion of babies/toddlers which made dinner/breakfast very loud, there is an over flow restaurant which was much quieter when it was open, this would be ideal as if was used for adults with children over 5 years old so you would feel less like you were eating in a nursery and have a conversation without having to shout at each other! all entertainment was in Spanish with no translation. kids club again was all Spanish.
Lovely large clean pool with good amounts of sun beds with cushions on with toweling covers that are changed daily at no extra cost which was a nice touch. towels can be hired with a refundable Euro deposit that is returned to you at the end of your stay.
All in all we enjoyed our stay but did not suit our 13yr old son so will not return any time soon

Stayed with mum and friend for 4 days. Just perfect for us, for a short break without the children, to get some sun. hotel was quite, and mainly Spanish clientele. Had no worries about getting sun beds. Food good, would recommend half board as a few restrictions with all inclusive. Went to the port for a night out (cost £40 return by taxi) had lots of restaurants and things to see.

Our second stay at this lovely, quiet hotel

Excellent service, good food and good sized , spotlessly clean room. All the staff are very polite and nothing is too much trouble. Our seven year old particularly likes the swimming pool. Nice beaches nearby, although if you want to explore, you'll need a car. This was our second stay and we would definitely return if we were visiting that part of Spain again.

Fantastic for a little bit if sun and a good book. Great value, the only thing I would comment on that needs some work is the fridge in the room. They do to get that cold and the cleaning ladies always take the room key out of the slot if you're not in, so they end up turning it off completely which is frustrating!

Nice, quiet hotel, away from all the high rises.

We arrived at 11.30am and our room was ready and waiting for us. We had a junior suite, which was perfect for the three of us. We did not expect our son to have his own shower room, which was a bonus. The hotel was exceptionally clean throughout, and although few of the staff spoke English, they were friendly, and with a few words of Spanish, we all managed to communicate. Very few British guests, which was not a bad thing. Perfect for families and couples who don't mind being surrounded by children.

Great hotel-shame about the food

We had to make 3 complaints at the hotel, all about the food and the service which is way under par. The food is largely inedible and the frontline staff less than helpful but eventually the issues were dealt with to our satisfaction by management. All this is a great pity because the hotel itself is superb, if somewhat bereft of atmosphere. The outside pool area is fantastic and the rooms ultra-clean and roomy. it's just a great shame about the food and (most of) the unpleasant staff. Hotel is a little out of the way but a short 6 minute walk up the hill to the roundabout gives you access to some nice reataurants and bars. But I would return-it's a potentially great hotel that just needs to spend some time getting the food sorted and training staff.

its a nice hotel. The staff made it more pleaseant to stay.
theres just a few
things need to be updated.
there are no english channels to watch. no movies
and theres no wifi in the rooms you have to be in the lobby to
access wifi. the hallways by the rooms have a foul smell. and the walls are very thin you can hear the conversation of the people next to you.

Totally Relaxing

Lovely hotel, with great helpful happy staff.
The location is very remote, you need a car to travel to everything/
The hotel do provide a courtesy car/minibus. but they do charge 7euros per person per trip, which can add up if you had a family.
This hotel is for total relaxation, and not for young couples looking for a fast paced action holiday

4-Day visitors

Hotel in very isolated position, away from the coast, many empty properties nearby. Disappointingly few guests, the bar & cafe were frequently deserted. Lovely clean well-planned bedrooms, but empty anonomous public areas. The hotel was an interesting design, and outdoor pool area and gardens lovely, but the pool remained closed during our stay in May, despite the warm weather. The indoor spa pool was only open for very limited time each day, opening late in the morning (impossible to have a pre-breakfast swim), closing from 2-5 pm and was closed all Sunday afternoon and all day Tuesday.

Wonderful hotel

Lovely hotel, Nice and relaxing. Pool was lovely. Staff were helpful but quite hard to talk to in English. very clean . fresh and nice rooms and reception / overall hotel. Hotel manager / director was nice and helped us with anything we needed.

All we wanted was a relaxing holiday which we completely got however not any entertainment. went all inclusive which was worth it.

Food was great could of been more of a selection on the all inclusive.

Great hotel for couples of all ages and families

The hotel was in a lovely spot, if a little remote. We found that a car was essential. The staff were friendly, although few spoke much English. We went half board and were impressed by the large selection of breakfast as they offered both full English and continental. We were also offered the option to have lunch instead of the evening meal which we felt was very flexible and demonstrated excellent customer service.

It has to be said that as we went the second week in September, the hotel did not offer much entertainment as it was fairly quiet. This also meant that the lovely swimming pool was very quiet and we had no trouble securing a sun lounger (which had lovely soft cushions, which were changed daily).

The double room was spacious, clean and surpassed our expectations as it boasted a shower over bath, double basin, hairdrier, safe, balcony and tea and coffee facilities (although you needed to take your own tea and coffee).

The only small disappointment was the TV in the room did not have any English speaking channels. The hotel parking was an additional daily charge which we think was between 7-9 euros, but we parked on the road without too much difficulty.

We would recommend this hotel for families and couples, but singles looking to let their hair down, may find it a bit too sedate!

The employees in the restaurant were particularly friendly and the aqua gym on a Saturday morning was great fun and very well run by a lovely Spanish girl.

In answer to our last staying in Hotel Bonalba I can say that it was what we were looking for. We had a relax staying, we found an incredible swimming pool and that is exactly what we wanted, resting in the swimming pool and a confortable. I can also say that the food was good, a wide variety of meat, fish and vegetables during the dinner and lunch. I hope I will come back one day.

Quiet location during week,busier at weekend,when functions are on.Spent two days at poolside,had a problem spotting any other guests it was that quiet.Car a definite must.Small complex,walkable from hotel,has a few bars etc.Breakfast was functional during the weekday,vastly improved at weekend,when more guests at hotel.But dont let this negative put you off,at worst you could pay 3.50 euro down on seafront for breakfast.Only problem for us,kettles have been removed from rooms,therefore if you need this facility take your own.Overall, a cracking place to stay.

I would definitely return to this Hotel.

It's a lovely Hotel with a fantastic swimming pool. The spa is great but the Hotel is about 30 minutes from the coast. Food was adequate but plentyful. You will need a hire car to get around.

Hotel Bonalba, Alicante Spain

This hotel was fabulous but you NEED to rent a car!! Me and my boyfriend went for a week in early September this year and we both loved it. it was really clean and the staff were really helpfull! there were great discounts for local attractions and we had rented a car so everywhere was easy to get to despite the hotel being remote. however it wasnt a young couples resort, but we had the whole pool to ourselves and it was very relaxing as that was just what we wanted. we didnt eat in the hotel at all, except for some fruit that they provided which was delicious and fresh. we asked for a double bed and got two singles pushed together, but we made it work. the facilities were clean and well maintained. the air conditioning in the room was a god send and there were plenty of nice restaurants at the nearby roundabout and when you have a car everything is within reach. the pool was very clean too. mini bar was free and refilled daily. overall a very very relaxing and enjoyable stay that i would recommend to anyone! :D

A bit remote . Golf on the doorstep. Pool towel service saves taking your own.
Good value. Shame they didn't put Tea and Coffee in the rooms but they did provide kettle.

Good and bad points..

This is a beautiful hotel with a beautiful pool area. The maids were very good and kept the room clean every day. Every room has a bacony and a mini bar. We had a queen sized bed which was extreamly comfortable. You have a safe in the room and a flat screen tv. The receptionist's could speak fairly good English.

When we booked the hotel it said that the hotel bus was complimentary however this is only in season. It's 5 euro's per person out of season and only goes to the beach and to Alicante.

The food is ok but I would not reccommend getting room service as this was compleatly cold when we received it.

There are a few bars at the top of the hill from the hotel including an English bar called Georges. Andy is the owner and he gave us some excellent information on the local must see's including Guadalest and the fonts d'Algar. This made our holiday. Also the best beach is El Campello..

There are 2 computers you can use for free in the hotel.

I would suggest this hotel however I would also suggest hiring a car to enable you to make the most of the holiday. Also a taxi from the airport to the hotel will cost 45 euro's.

Hotel Bonalba - lovely hotel, great pool

Stayed here at the start of the summer holidays and were delighted to be one of only a handfull of English there. The Hotel is spotless, the room excellent but do beware that all the food is very much aimed towards the Spanish and is therefore pretty disappointing (and not cheap), problem is, unless you have a car you are stuck with it. There is a pizzeria a 5 minute walk up the road with good food but try and rip you off as we found, and next to that there is a Guiness bar and an English bar Georges, where the same brits seem to appear each evening having presumably got lost on their way home from Benidorm beach...yes the usual, tattoos, burnt skin and constant swearing despite our young children being present (for the 15 minutes we could stand). Drink prices at the hotel as you would expect for a 4 star hotel. All in all a lovely hotel, great value but make sure you have a car and dont mind driving for dinner
