Staff are extremely helpful and speak Engish well. Hotel location is supurb and a few minutes from town centre. Views over the square and to the mountains beyond are amazing. Nice warm atmosphere at the hotel and as a lady travelling alone I always felt safe.

On the minus side. Room was a little on the warm side and window opening caused loud noise and also then let in street noise.

No fridge or tea and coffee making facilites in the room. Although staff kindly allowed the use of the machines downstairs.

Good but could use improvement for the summer

The service was good. The breakfasts were great, although understaffed at times. If you like sleeping in a really soft bed, you’d like the bed, but maybe not the sheet of plastic they use to protect their mattress. You only have one little sheet of cotton between you and it. It captures one’s body heat and increases the amount you sweat during the night. We ended up sleeping on top of all the covers. Their AC was functional but did nothing about the humidity in the air, so it didn’t feel very cool. The toilet seat always felt like it was about to come off. Good water pressure though, and the water was cool and clean. The location was well situated for old town and their windows keep out most of the night noise. Overall pretty good, but the bed and AC situation could be improved.

The location at Place Victor Hugo is great and the view out over the square, with the mountains in the distance is spectacular. Short walk to the river, a number of museums and the Bastille. The hotel felt fancy and homey at the same time, and staff were friendly and helpful. Creaky floors in places, but didn't interfere with sleeping or otherwise impact my experience.

Great location in Grenoble with good breakfast

The room had what we needed where it matters. The shower was powerful and clean with no mould around the seals, the bed was large and extremely comfortable. We wern't expecting the rooms with a view over the Place for the amount we had paid- so no view and the furnishings and carpet are a little old fashioned - but where it counts the room was great.

We had the breakfast in the morning (10.80 each at weekends) which was excellent. They specialise in local produce so no nasty little plastic containers of jams - these were jars of proper confiture made by a local family concern, the coffee is roasted nearby and there were local cheeses walnuts and charcuterie. Very good fruit salad and yoghurt. Also breads, pastries, cereals, pudding and custard (go figure?) boiled eggs ...…. I could go on but I was full!
The staff were friendly and very helpful - even offered to store the large roll of silk I had bought for a wedding dress up at Troyes.
We didn't use the hotel parking - there is free parking in the streets nearby between 7pm and 9.00am and after that 2 euros per hour - but suggest not leaving anything on show in the car. Loads of restaurants and the old town on the doorstep.

We would recommend and definitely stay again

Very nice hotel in the middle of the old city, close to the Bulles cable car up to the Bastille (hotel discount applies). Unfortunately the advertised hotel parking is a public car park a few hundred metres away, but the hotel gives a reduced rate.

Great hotel, location, price but noisy

The staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly and the room was lovely. I agree with other reviewers that the hotel is really noisy - I was in a back room and there was music, loud singing and talking on the street. It didn't last for too long but it was both nights. The hotel is centrally located and close to a metro stop though. Other than the noise it is great.

The room was very comfortable and quiet and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a room that looked out over Place Victor Hugo, a beautiful square in the center of town with nice cafe's, restaurants and shops right nearby. The hotel is in a historic building which adds to charm, but it has been renovated fairly recently and so has the amenities we would expect in a modern hotel. And the rate was a bargain.

Pleasant hotel in the heart of Grenoble

We needed a room for three because we were meeting our daughter who was studying in Grenoble. We had a nice sized room and bathroom, very comfortable for three especially in Europe. Hotel staff was very nice, there was breakfast for an additional charge or you can just go outside and find food easily in the city. Walked to everything we wanted to see from this hotel. Parking in a covered lot for an additional charge that is subsidized somewhat by hotel and only cost 10 euro per night. We parked and never touched the car until we left. Great location.

I really enjoyed my one night stay at this hotel. It's main draw card is its central location across the road from Victor Hugo square. There are many bars and restaurants within walking distance and tram stop is literally 100m away.

Breakfast was also good (extra cost though).

The room key is huge and heavy but best leave it at reception when you go out so you don't carry it around.

I would stay here again if I was in Grenoble.

The room amenities are minimal, not even a shower cap! The furniture are old fashion. The old type key with the heavy weight attachment requires that you lock the room when you leave or anyone can come in. This hotel needs to be updated.

Good city centre hotel close to most attractions and the river/ chairlift. Parking is in nearby multi-storey at extra charge, but you can stop outside the hotel temporarily to drop luggage. Hotel was comfortable and convenient and I would stay their again.

There on business. Front desk staff were excellent and helpful. Hotel is OLD and lacks conveniences. Location near train/rail was good. Neighborhood was ok. The rooms were fine, but lacked lighting and was in need of updating. Parking was available for those with rental cars for 6 euro per night which was a bargain.

Found the hotel very pleasant and comfortable - roomy by French standards. Very clean room, comfortable bed, good internet (by European standards). Thought the staff was especially friendly, and spoke excellent English. Really close (1 short block) to the Tram, and very close to nice areas with lots of restaurants. Highly recommended.

Gentleman at desk was extremely rude at check in. Not helpful in answering questions about local attractions. Hotel is dated in decor, carpets stained and room had a musty, almost unbearable odor. The only positive is the location for it's walking distance to many restaurants and shops.

Our friend who stays in Grenoble recommended this hotel as this is where his parents stay when visiting him. It is close to the centre, close to where he stays and was ideal for our 1 night. Hotel did what it said on the tin - bed, bathroom and toilet. Staff were extremely helpful and wifi access was excellent. We parked at Philippeville multi storey which is just a 5 min walk round the corner and was 13 euro for just over 24 hours.

Business trip of two nights with colleagues, we were at the polygon scientific for most of our stay, but had the pleasure of some tasty dining, a quick trip up the basteille in the cable car; always worth it for spectacular views of everything.have stayed in this hotel before as it is well central.

Great value! The hotel was reasonably priced and our room and bathroom were very clean (my top priority) and comfortable. We asked for a room with a little balcony, and though the view was mostly of the side street, we could see a sliver of the beautiful park that's in front of the hotel. It was nice having the breakfast option - we usually got the continental at the hotel or went out to one of the local cafes and brought back coffee and pastry - but the breakfast room was very nice. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and helped make our stay a nice one!

Good middle of the road hotel... but

It's a typical old European hotel. Room was clean, bed was comfortable and there was good AC. It's very well located. However front desk staff was lying when asked if there were other rooms of the same category to look at when I told them there free floor space was too small for doing my stretch routine in the morning. He just wanted to push the more expensive superior room, until I got the manager to show me a different one that worked. So the impression of lazy dishonest front desk staff doesn't leave a great taste. Also the breakfast price is ridiculously expensive for what they offer.

C gets you the best deals but ...

Yes, C always gets me the best deals and I do travel a bit - in 2011 I travelled 97,000 miles around the world for business. So this time I stay at Hotel D'Angleterre to try a downtown core hotel in Grenoble and I end up having the one room on that floor against the elevator. This is always the case when booking with C in Europe! Hoteliers just don't get it yet that booking on the web is the way we do things today. Anyhow, the room was actually quiet but you could hear the elevator a bit when busy. The hotel, the room and the breakfast were just fine. I'll go back there for sure and on vacation with my spouse as well. It is a wonderful location downtown Grenoble. Once there you can walk everywhere and you can also take there wonderful tram system.

Nice little hotel acroos the street from main park in Grenoble. Hotel validated parking, so total for overnight only 6 euros...a true bargain compared to most places.Unit had a mini fridge,and ice available..not always the case in Europe. DVD's available at desk no charge. Highly recommended, especially if you are driving.

Up - located nice and centrally, but fairly peaceful. Did hear the church bells Sunday morning, but not 'til 10 or so. Staff friendly and helpful. Street parking fairly easy nearby, free 19-9h. Bed and furnishings comfortable. Easy and fast free internet.

Down - feels slightly shabby, \"lived in\" if you like. Breakfast not up to much, but not included either, suggest going elsewhere. Old style keys make late night access a bit of a nuisance.

Tiny rooms, but this is France. I doubt you can find much different in the center of town. But you can surely get further away from the church bells which ring about 100 feet from your ears from 6am to 10pm. If you time it right, you might just about get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Most likely, considerably less...

Plus, beware of the charges for breakfast. It is NOT included in the cost and I did not find this out (admittedly because I foolishly did not ask) until you check out.

Hotel Angleterre in Grenoble: A Tight Fit

The room was cramped, with a lot of things crammed in such as a desk, free-standing wardrobe and a unit for TV/DVD player and minibar.

The bathroom was really just a large cupboard with a mirrored sliding door.

The electrics and plumbing were of a stereotypical French finish with the bathroom light switch looking like it was stuck on as an afterthought.

Although clean, the room was quite shabby and badly in need of updating.

The hotel is well located, a few steps from the Victor Hugo tram station, my room oversees the Victor Hugo park, with very nice view. Walking distance to the city center. many good restaurants around, like Archer, Dix Vine etc... all major old city signseeings are within walking distance. The room is very clean, free Wi-Fi, free DVD loan (most of the channels are non-English, and therefore they have DVD players with free DVD loan) . Strongly recommend

Wonderful location, nice hotel

Right off the Victor Hugo Square, this hotel is easy to get to and in a lovely location just off the center of Grenoble. This was my second stay and both times I enjoyed the hotel and found it clean and very comfortable.

The smaller rooms are small but served fine by myself, and the larger rooms are still small by American standards but have more room for a couple.

I would recommend the Tulip Inn to friends and family.

Stayed with my spouse for a week. The hotel itself is located right in the middle of town, so you can walk or use the tram for almost everything you need. The staff speak good english and are helpful.
However although the room was not that noisy considering the location, it was still noisy enough for me not to sleep well.
More important than that, the rooms are quite small, with beds to match. This may be ok if you're there for a business trip on a 1-2 nights, not more than that.
We simply could not get a decent night's sleep with this bed.

5th floor rooms not all that c

5th floor rooms not all that convenient:
- not serviced by lift (lift only goes to 4th floor)
- a bit cramped under sloping dormitory roof
could be a problem for some people.
But otherwise, this hotel is well located and good value.
