Cannot fault the staff and organisation of the property. We were able to check in very easily and over 2 hours early which was a great help.

The bathroom shower was not the cleanest but the rest of the room was very clean. The only other thing was that the cleaning staff ignores the door sign and knocks to ask if you want it cleaned or when you are leaving. Check out is 10am but cleaning staff were knocking on the door for room service at 9.30am

As I arrive late, I have never seen staff. I also don’t walk around the property after driving 5 hours to get to the lodge. The room need instructions on how to operate the TV. This takes a lot of button pressing just to get the free to air channels. Other than that. I am very happy with this facility.

I booked the room for the 3 of us so i would of expected the sofa bed to be made up it wasn't and it definitely wasn't a single sofa had a big gap in it near center making it unsleepable.The towels being replaced only once and then only for 2 not sure what they expected the 3rd to do the bin wasn't emptied the 1st make up day so it over flowed till the next time tea bags were not topped up which usually happens all the other places I've stayed at We had are makeup room sign out by 830am and the room was tidied but we had the sign out at10am and no one bothered to make it up so if you want fresh towels or your bins emptied bed made you cannot have a Dozie sleep in.The location was good just a bit inconvenient when rail work is being done so if you know in advance you are probable better to stay else were but it is a good walk over the bridge if you are only doing city The accommodation was not at all what we expected so tiny not sure where they would of but there free roll away bed if we requested it.had to walk side ways around as it was

Having stayed at this property previously, and essentially satisfied, booked again, bus was disappointing to experience the following:

> a lizard (still alive) in the bed just as getting in
> hair and dirt in bathroom
> a rat roaming freely in the adjacent garden visible from the bedroom
> ironing board & cover damaged

Besides that, Carnarvon Lodge is a great location and accessible to many amenities and transport services

Access was unsafe due to flooding in heavy rain. The premises were undergoing renovation and the builders had not rectified drainage from the access. We had booked two nights but were compelled to relocate elsewhere. The premises should really have been closed during the renovation. The manager Jason was helpful and understanding.

In a great spot - right on the top of a hill in kirribilli to catch the breezes and within walking distance of the train and great places for breakfast. Clean and safe however no airconditioning. It was breezy enough and it has ceiling fans. I came from Brisbane February humidity so i was fine with it, but if you come from a southern state you might find this an issue in Summer.

The property is well located, however being in Sydney the rooms need air conditioning - a fan on hot humid days is ineffective. The room cleanliness was also lacking - the sheets were thin and the floor was covered in other peoples various hair colours and lengths - very off putting. The water pressure was also low and no hot water in the bathroom basin.

Reception spoke very little English. Room was dirty, doona cover and sheet and pillows cases not changed from last person. No towels or face cloth no soap for shower. Not that I could use shower filthy dirty window wouldn’t close so therefore unable to lock it. Floor in communal area hadn’t seen vacuum in years. Fan in bedroom was so black and dirty that it couldn’t be used. Dirty would have been clean compared to this.

If you just need a place to sleep at night when you get back from visiting places, then this place will do. Kirribilli is a nice place with a lot of small cafe shops with good food. The walk from the train is about 8 minutes with a slight incline to this place. The room was okay, no AC just fan. The entrance is slippery when it rains and I slipped one time.

The bottom line, cheap, sleep and on the go. Doors don’t have locks, but a door stop. Walls are very thin. Let’s just say on Sunday morning, you could hear them doing it and it was loud.

Air-conditioning didn't work.
When I did the booking I was told parking was $10 for the night but when I got there the hotel staff told me I had to pay $15.

Good to see they are renovating the rooms because there a bit run down.
There was no bottled water which was advertised and a kettle with no tea or coffee with it. Good thing was it was close to the function I was attending and a short walk for breakfast the next morning.

Very convenient to Kirribilli however my room overlooked the street and on a Friday night it was quite noisy. Room was very basic but OK. Didn't know about the WiFi until I dropped key back. On check-in was only handed a key in an envelope with no information either in envelope or in room.

I booked a room with ensuite for 2 adults, separate beds and a cot for the 11 month child. I was initially given 2 non adjoining rooms each with a double bed and ensuite; no cot and no room for one. I was then offered a family room with no ensuite (shared bathroom across the hall) 3 separate beds and no cot. I had specifically rung and texted before booking with regards to the cot and told yes it was available. only 1 light/fan worked, baby had to sleep on the floor on a doona and I could not shower as I could not contain the baby. No flyscreens, paint cracked off as windows were opened, walls cracked etc. Location was ideal for the party my daughter was to attend This was not as I had booked and it was not cheap. I cannot recommend this place and I will not book with Hotels.com again.This accommodation spoilt my special time with my daughter and granddaughter

I stayed in a 1 bed apartment which had its own ensuite. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Location was amazing, the room was really cosey with lots of natural light and views of Kirribilli’s beautiful tree lined streets. The bathroom was clean with a big shower. The bed was super comfy. This place is fantastic value for money, it’s not fancy or anything but it has its own charm. It’s perfect if you’re not going to spend a great deal of time in the apartment. Would stay there again!

Dilapidated hotel but good views of the harbor

Location was alright, but had to walk 1 km for coles and aldi to get groceries. Very outdated building. If staying in winter, would recommend to bring warm clothes and hot water bag as there is no heating and the windows let in a lot of the cool air. The linen could have been cleaned better as there was a stain on the doona cover and the pillow cases did not seem fresh. Due to this, we had to buy pillows in order to sleep on the bed. The walls of the room were grubby and should have been scrubbed down before we came. Overall this hotel was a little dilapidated and messy, however for $80 a night and with views of the harbor bridge, it was not a bad find.

I would not recommend anyone to stay at this place my light bulb burned out in the room I was staying and cannot get a hold of front desk since they only work certain hours and I had to replace the bulb myself by switching it from the hallway light bulb.

Great location near downtown and just a short walk to a ferry stop. Simple room was small and modest. Small refrigerator in room,. Shared bathroom. No air conditioning but room had a small fan. Shared kitchen, shared living room with big TV. On site covered parking for extra fee. On site manager was helpful. No daily room cleaning.

I hope the cockroaches pay rent. The owners would be rolling in it.
Showering was excruciating as hot water came on and off for long periods.
Room did not feel clean. TV remote was missing. Perhaps the cockroaches took it.

Excellent value - basic rooms but great in a budge

Needed some last minute accommodation for 6 people. The lodge is basic but it was clean and suited our purposes. The location was also perfect for our needs as it was close to where we were working in North Sydney. It is budget accommodation, but it does come with a budget priceline. Choose from ensuite rooms or rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Family rooms available. Over all very happy with our stay and although there was no-one on site when we arrived to check in, the key was available for us and the staff member I spoke to over the phone could not have been more helpful. Will stay again if the need arises to be in this area.

If you only require a bed for the night and don't look too hard, it's ok. There's a lot of no's - for example there was no toilet paper, no milk in fridge, no air conditioning or tv. We asked and were given 4 tea bags, we bought milk but there were no mugs or cups & saucers although there was a kettle.
The pluses were the location, very basic clean room with ensuite and a ceiling fan.

I wasn’t expecting much after reading the reviews but I didn’t think I’d have to share my room with other creatures.
It was pretty gross. The curtains were filthy and cigarette smoke wafted through the corridor.
Bed was ok but only a fitted sheet and doona, no top sheet.

On arrival went in and my key was ready to go in an envelope on the reception door - Love that! No standing around talking waiting signing papers etc
My room size was just right for 2 people I had the one with ensuit
Room cleanliness seemed fine to me just older style , but that didn’t bother us as we are there just to sleep and get ready to do outings
Had a bar fridge, toiletries tea bags and jug ,a large enclosed balcony- perfect!
It is an older style hotel but location was perfect for where we needed to go , such a nice area
When leaving just sat my key back in the box on reception door , again- love not having to have to wait or sign papers and talk
Parking is just out front on street , luckily we got in and got a spot.
I’d stay again :)

Probably the worst place I've stayed

Location was good however that's as good as it gets. The bed was an old ensemble with a hard mattress one sheet and a quilt that barely covered the bed. No hand towel or shower mat in the bathroom and the shower head was just hanging there . You had to hold the shower head up with one hand to be able to wash. There is no one there to ask for assistance unless you plan on staying in until 10am or back before 4pm. The rooms are on 3 levels with stairs {not mentioned}.Cockroaches and spiders in our tiny room. The communal kitchen basically had nothing, no forks knives or spoons, one bowl and a few plates, certain not fully equipped as advertised. Definitely needs a good paint job. Free WI-Fi constantly dropped out

This place should be shut down!!! No signs to find reception, globes not working in light fittings, reception male was dressed in jeans and t shirt and very unhelpful, no coffee making facilities in room (oooops, sorry electric jug only, no milk, coffee, sugar or cup) Shared bathroom was filthy with 3 pieces of soap in shower from pervious users, soap scum on shower glass again from previous users. Smelly room with non matching bath towels, full size fridge in room, however it was empty. Manager (if you could call him that) could not explain why no milk in fridge except to say \" shop that way 5 min walk to buy own coffee\" for $ a night it was a rip off big time. I am going to report this place to NSW health. If you want to stay at a great place then it called Glenferrie Lodge not far from Kirribilli House, very clean with well mannered management dressed in suits. From arounf the same price per night with fully cooked buffet breakfast included. Street parking only and that can be hard to find at times. GIVE CARNARVON LODGE A BIG MISS, THATS OF COURSE YOU WANT TO CATCH GERMS THEY DONT EVEN HAVE A NAME FOR YET. I wouldnt let my dogs stay there.

Still has a roach problem

Stayed in October 2016. This is basic accomodation of course and the price reflects it, however clean sheets and a room free of cockroaches should be mandatory. Sheets looked clean however had several hairs in it upon pulling sheets back and even after reading of past roach complaints I awoke with a small roach crawling across the pillow. Pest control has still not been done or isn't working. Vacumming not done under the bed, looks like never. No towel or soap etc as indicated however it did have toilet paper provided. There is other similar accomodation in the greater area done MUCH better than this place. If you charge $90 and over for a room you need to ensure cleanliness at the very least. And make it clear in your advertising that No toiletries are provided. If these ongoing complaints are fixed it should serve as well needed basic accomodation in an overly inflated hotel market gauging ever excessive nightly fees.

Cheap but not really clean, no staff at all.

Not so good for the price, one week before I stayed couple blocks away for a 10$ difference and the difference was incredible. Not worth the money they ask. The only good thing is that I had my own bathroom. I arrived at noon but there was nobody at the reception, there was just an envelope with my name and the key inside, I stayed for three nights and didn't see any of the staff.

It is a lovely location close to Luna Park where I had to officiate at a function. I was very impressed with the area with very nice restaurants etc nearby. It was also very handy to the train station.

Our room was infested with cockroaches! The spare bed quilt had no quilt cover on it and was blood stained! The power outlets were either not working or of an illegal configuration. The lock on the glass sliding door - !?!? - between our room and an adjoining room was broken so we couldn't secure the room when we went out. In-room amenities included a TV, a bar fridge with nothing in it, a cheap small fan heater, an electric kettle, one mug (??) and a table that took up valuable space and served no purpose. There were no toiletries of any kind and stained bath towels. The double bed and pillows were terribly uncomfortable. The carpet was old and looked dirty. My asthmatic husband contracted a serious chest infection from staying here. Appalling! They told me they had parking - they don't!

Front of building reeked of tobacco. There was rubbish in the fridge from the previous occupant. Under the bed, there was a build up of dirt and rubbish - clearly the room had not been vacuumed for a long time. There was only one double power point in the room, on the skirting board at the foot of the bed, so the only way to boil the jug or use the toaster, was to leave it/them on the floor. There was no tea/coffee/sugar or milk provided. No power point in the bathroom.

Carnarvon Lodge is rancid.

The bedding was clean but the carpets were grubby, the bathroom was stinky and there were cockroaches everywhere...in the cupboards, roaming the bathroom, climbing the walls.

I killed twenty seven...and was woken three times during the night with them crawling across me.

There was no desk staff either at 8pm when i self checked in nor at 7.30 am when I checked out.

Truly appalling and best avoided.

Terrible dump.

Ghastly experience. Looked nothing like the photograph. No bedside lights. No cover over the ceiling light. No towels. No staff. Freezing cold because all the windows in the building were left open and it was a cold night. Asked for a heater or extra blanket. NO. Not possible! Some people had a fight in the hall near our room in the middle of the night. which was frightening. I booked because it was Expedia which I presumed had a certain standard but Expedia has no right to recommend this sub-standard dump and I will never book with them again.

Kitchen & bathroom areas poor - attention to cleaning (dirty grout on tiles, years of dust on extractor grill) & replacing leaking tap needed to make acceptable.

No Frills establishment in good location

Office closes at 4:30 from then on it's self help.
Community kitchen, no breakfast or breakfast room.
Community lounge with big TV. Room TV is similar size to your lap top.
Wi Fi available but given code will need updating from your mobile.
No air con in my basic room, just a ceiling fan and no bed lamps.
Good for overnight stay only.
Very little parking available in surrounding streets.

Close to facilities and very quiet surrounds

We did get value for money. It served the purpose of our stay. It was cheap, but clean and we felt safe and secure. The room was very small but did have its own bathroom. We were only there to get ready for our night out and to then have a place to sleep. It more than adequately served our purpose. My only criticism was - it was a hot evening and because there was no air con, we needed to leave the window open. Because there were no fly screens, we did get bitten by mosquitoes in the night. I'd therefore suggest fly screens on the windows.

Nice location, good for a stay

Nice hostel in a brilliant location. Close to the beach, close to town and shop. Nice rooms, clean and tidy, good common area. Staff are friendly and helpful, nice atmosphere. Good for a short stay in Newcastle

It was a pleasant walk from the train station and the wi-fi was better then home but...the cockroaches were unwanted, the hard, stale, half-eaten muffin and partial bottle of Coke in the fridge indicates only minimal attention to cleanliness.

Convenient but dirty.

Was told on arrival that there was a double booking and would I change to a cheaper room for a discount. As I had specifically booked a room with private bathroom, I said no ... and it was OK. But upset at having to be asked ...

Superb location- very cheap!

If you're looking for a fantastic location in Sydney and don't need fancy frills then this is a great place to stay as a base to see Sydney- it is literally next to Sydney harbour. It is a boarding house too, so there are some permanent residents who like things their way, but most are friendly- especially Patricia. The rooms have TV, microwave, kettle and towels; the bed was comfy. There are shared bathrooms with shower, a large lounge with TV and a huge kitchen too. Be sure to check in before 4pm as otherwise there are no staff and watch out for the lady with the cat- she is very rude and leaves all the doors open so her cat can go in and out!!!
It may not be that modern or clean but it was a great base and we would go back. Many thanks to Ian the very helpful, polite and kind manager.

Good location, but worst ever experience

I expected some compromise at the price, but this was just awful!!!

No safety light down side of main building to get to room

No TV, No basic tea, No breakfast/coffee/tea, No basic for any room - not even a bedside lamp

My receipt was made out for an amount well under what I paid - are these people for real?

Sorry Wotif, I have used you by choice, but this was WAY UNDER satisfactory - there are clearly no guarantees with your site

Basic accommodation with easy access to ferries

Good communication with manager via sms, easy to locate and within walking distance to two ferry services.
Basic but quite adequate for one night stop over. I may stay there again myself.
