We stayed at both Hotel Bardo and Milam in Tulum over 10 days, splitting our time between the two properties, and honestly, it was an incredible experience from start to finish.

Both hotels are part of the same group and are only about a 5-minute drive apart, making it really easy to enjoy what each had to offer. They share a similar aesthetic — beautifully designed, stylish, and very “Tulum” — while still feeling good value compared to how expensive the area has become.

The rooms in both hotels were exceptional. Genuinely some of the best we’ve stayed in anywhere in the world — spacious, unique, and thoughtfully designed. You can tell a lot of attention has gone into the details.

Service across both properties was excellent. The staff were warm, attentive, and clearly cared about making our stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible. The food was also a standout at both hotels — consistently high quality and something we looked forward to every day.

Location-wise, both hotels are well positioned near Tulum town centre, with easy access to the beach zone. We hired e-bikes, which we’d highly recommend — about a 15–20 minute ride to the beach, much better value than taxis and easy to get around and park.

That said, Hotel Milam was on another level entirely. A clear five-star experience. The service was impeccable, the food somehow even better than Bardo, and the overall atmosphere was incredibly serene and luxurious. The poolside bar and restaurant area created a really calm

The property was unique and beautiful surrounded by nature felt refresh daily. The staff was amazing and kind. However, the food was not the best I would only recommend staying within the limit of breakfast that was included as the food doesn’t have much flavor. What I did not like was the private pool were extremely cold. The expectation was the pool to be at least a regular shower temperature throughout the day but it was extremely cold at all hour of the day. If you experience cold plunge before that is the temperature of the private pool. There must be an alternative of heated option for these pools.

Fantastic boutique hotel in Tulum. EASY! fantastic staff and a complete no stress vacation. Food was great. and the cabins were awesome.

Note. each room has a ‘dipping’ pool. Some are heated. If you want that hot tub, man sure that is what you book.

Beautiful small boutique resort. Maybe not the most desirable area of Tulum as many people want to be down by the beach, but with a rental car or bicycle we got around just fine. The property was serene, unique in design and staff/cleaning were excellent. Better service than most full service Marriott’s I stay at. Loved the private plunge pools and private outdoor shower.

This hotel is for adults who want to relax and appreciate nature, and it is the most beautifully designed hotel I have ever been in! Every detail from the soap holders to the dishware is gorgeous and gives a very witchy-jungle vibe which I had never seen before. It is moody and lush and really draws you in to the jungle atmosphere. The cabins are spacious with outdoor showers, plunge pools, and cabins for you to relax in when you don’t want to be around people. The main pool had plenty of comfy seating and the water was cool and clear and did not smell of salt water or chlorine. The staff were very helpful in arranging a kettle and creamer for coffee, storing our bags before check in, and helping arrange airport transportation. They made everything flow smoothly which as a former backpacker/extreme budget traveler I was not used to but makes the trip feel so much more enjoyable. They play some light relaxing music that is not too loud and the restaurant and bar are open until 9 pm which was great for a late night snack. The food was all delicious, but make sure to ask for the hot sauce because they tone down the spice for guests and if you like spice like us then you will want to add some. Highly recommend the vanilla ice cream and goat cheesecake! I wish we had booked more days, two nights was not enough because the hotel is an experience in itself. Shout out to the interior designs of this place!!

I had an incredible stay. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt calm and thoughtfully curated, perfect for disconnecting from everything. The room was full of beautiful details, the bed was very comfortable, and the service was always attentive without being intrusive. I especially loved the wellness experiences, and the breakfast was a great way to start the day in a relaxed mood. I would definitely return if you are looking for something more intimate and special in Tulum. Temazcal is a must.

The path to the villas was breathless and definitely recommend this hotel just know you are not close the breach but rather the town and there is a coffee shop named Aroma Café 5 minutes walking which was amazing.

generally, the hotel was nice. The staff were fantastic.. when we had an issue in our room with the bathroom it was fixed immediately. As you have several hotels, I would’ve thought you would run a shuttle between the hotels so we can access the other restaurants easily..
we did make our way over to the other restaurant and the food was spectacular. Unfortunately, the hotel is not set up for wet weather. There’s a lot of water in the fitness area and when I turned up in the morning someone was using the area even though the floor was all wet. The Pilates class started late because the instructor had to ask the hotel to come and clean and dry the floor.. I expected the hotel to be making sure this area was dry prior to use of Pilates as it was a general use area for fitness for all guests.
However the room was beautiful and staff super friendly.

I would definitely recommend this property. Everything was great. The staff was always kind and helpful. The facility was always clean and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Our room was always clean when we returned from our activities and smelled so good. We always felt safe and they had staff on duty all night monitoring the facility. The restaurant had the best food we ate on our whole trip. It was absolutely delicious and the waiter was fantastic. There is not one thing I can say negative. This place is top quality.

My stay at Hotel Bardo was absolutely amazing! The property is stunning — every corner feels so serene and beautifully designed. The atmosphere is relaxing and luxurious without feeling pretentious.

The staff were beyond accommodating and genuinely friendly, always going above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. You can really tell they take pride in what they do.

And the food — incredible! Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. From breakfast to dinner, everything exceeded my expectations.

Overall, it was such a memorable experience. I can’t wait to come back — highly recommend Hotel Bardo to anyone looking for the perfect mix of comfort, style, and exceptional service!

I stayed at this hotel and was completely disappointed with the service. From the moment I checked in, the staff seemed uninterested and unhelpful. The front desk took forever to assist me, and when I finally got to my room, it wasn’t even properly cleaned — there were stains on the sheets and a bad smell in the air.

When I called downstairs to ask for help, it took over an hour for anyone to respond, and the person who came up acted like it was an inconvenience. On top of that, the amenities advertised online were either broken or unavailable.

For the price I paid, I expected at least decent hospitality, but this experience was unacceptable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and will never stay here again.

Upon arrival my bestie and I were greeted and our luggage taken to our villa. Everything was cutesy and nice. Employees were friendly. My other bestie was due to come the next day. About day 3 when all 3 girls were staying in the room, we received a WhatsApp text that we have stained towels and robes with makeup and that it would be a 750 pesos charge. This was alarming because makeup is washable and I’m talking a few spots here and there. I told the concierge Fernando that I was coming to the front desk to rectify the issue. When I was getting ready to go have a chat, I received another text that the linens were washed and the “stains” have been removed. This place is very money hungry and as minorities, we expected more from them. The last day, while my friends and I wee at the airport, I received another text that a robe was missing. So now we are being accused of being thieves. My response was to check with the housekeeper as she took linens, robes and towels the day before(the robes were only used on one day). I did not receive a text back. My deduction from this is that this place is very money hungry. My friends and I were having a great time prior to being accused of “staining robes, towels and linen” the being accused of stealing. All in all, bring your own towels, pillowcases, and robes if you want to stay at this villa.

The hotel has a beautiful and relaxing concept, and the rooms were excellent. However, we felt the food options could be improved, especially since there aren’t many restaurants nearby.

Service was an area that fell short. We often had to ask for drinks or food rather than staff checking in proactively. When we first arrived, we were asked to wait at the bar, even though we were the only guests there, and still had to request service rather than being offered a drink. We had a similar experience at the restaurant.

During our trip, we stayed at other properties where the level of service was noticeably higher. There’s definitely room for improvement here to match the quality of the setting.

The property is beyond gorgeous and the rooms were the most perfect vibe. The bar drinks were very very delicious but also very pricey. We choose to ate offsite due to the high food prices, which was a bummer as we really wanted to enjoy the property. Our room was located very far down the pathway, right across from the other hotel bar so it was quiet loud with the music and people/staff around. It was diffcult to relax outside the room for this reason which was a bummer as i wanted to read by the pool and couldn't. We also had toliet issues, that caused us to have to use the public bathrooms for the last portion of trip. Overall a gorgeous stay but for the price of the room plus heavy pricing on food/drinks, I don't think I would stay here again. The cost does not counter the benefits on this one. If i did stay again I would deff request a room further away from the bars.

Why?

It’s beautiful; a tranquil oasis with its own vibe! The resort looks exactly like the pictures . my massage with Gloria was relaxing, deep & dreamy. Suggest her & on the beach too.

Alex and Fernando are warm and welcoming when they greet you, there to help you every step of the way, incredibly resourceful & funny. They use the whatsup app for easy, fast communication regarding reservations and anything you need. The housekeeping team checks in with you too.

As a solo female I felt safe the entire time. On the property, in town, and on the beach.

Rent a scooter (not a car) if you want to easily get around. The city center is easily walkable. If I hand known for the beach, centers and other I’d definitely have rented a scooter vs a car/bike.

The food is amazing! Drinks too! The tuna tataki, while an app, makes a killer meals and is a flavor bomb.

Bardo has 2 sister properties you may visit if you wish. Which I did for yoga (which is included and people who up. So should you! Not to hard, not to light). Their Temazcal Ceremony is authentic, challenging and our spiritual guide/shaman is there to support you every step of the way.

I used google maps to maneuver through the city and along the beach. Even if you don’t have reception (I only did when connected to WiFi) it will still show you where you are and where your pins are to make it to where you want to go.

This resort was so relaxing and serene. You have to remember it's in the jungle so there are bugs, all my bug bites were worth it! It was very peaceful. The weather was hot and humid so to have a private pool right in front of my room was so relaxing and felt wonderful. The food was outstanding and the hospitality was top notch. I would highly recommend and I will be back. I definitely got a reset and recharge and will return.

Will never return to this hotel again!!! Staff made us feel really uncomfortable from check in to check out. The day of check in we arrived fairly earlier than our check in time and were NOT allowed to check in early because the rooms “were not ready” according to the host. Then I witness the host let another party check in early then after we noticed then we were offered to check in early. The servers who took orders were little to NO help when ordering anything. Even when we asked for certain items that were on the menu the servers said we could not have it because they simply did not understand. The staff are rude and dismissive it felt like we were a bother to them. If you are a young, African American couple I do NOT recommend coming here because you will not fit the aesthetic. Treated other people way better than we were treated. Customer service 0/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This hotel is exquisite. It’s lush surroundings and the fact that it’s 18 only make it a quiet and relaxing place to stay. The local neighborhood did get loud some evenings, but I would 10/10 stay here again! The ONLY downside was that they didn’t have a jacuzzi (outside of the spa service). Other than that, the grounds were stunning, the service was exceptional, the food was beautiful and delicious. We didn’t want to leave. Also, the additional services they have are unique. They have a beautiful yoga room, the Tamazcal ceremony was a really interesting test of the mind and soul. They helped us call drivers for various excursions. We loved it and would go back!

I had the most incredible birthday experience at this beautiful Mexican retreat hotel! From the moment we arrived, the hosts went above and beyond to make sure my woman and I had the best time. They were so attentive and thoughtful, ensuring we enjoyed every moment of the in-house amenities and activities. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, and the beauty of the place really made us feel connected with nature – it was the perfect escape.

Highly recommend starting the day with the morning activities like meditation and yoga – it was such a peaceful way to begin each day. And if you're a fan of breakfast, don't miss out on their French toast – it's incredible! The hosts were so kind and even gave us amazing recommendations for places to visit in the city.

Not only did they treat us like royalty, but their communication was exceptional too. They were always available on WhatsApp, responding instantly at any time of the day or night, even before and after our stay. This place truly made my birthday celebration unforgettable, and I can’t recommend it enough! You want a high-class experience, don’t you?

Fantastic hotel. Would recommend. Well placed away from the main strip which is a 10-15 min walk away. Good food and drink selection, more on the pricy side but you get what you pay for in comparison to pricing in downtown Tulum. The hotel has been well designed, there are leafy parts all around the side of the pool which offer privacy when sunbathing. They also do exercise and yoga classes in the morning and evening. Staff were super helpful with fantastic service.

Hotel Bardo is truly a gem! The landscape design, lush foliage, and inventive pools create an almost magical atmosphere—tranquil, immersive, and beautifully designed. The rooms are luxurious and chic, blending modern comfort with a serene, nature-inspired aesthetic.

Many reviews mention that the hotel isn’t close to the beach, and that’s true—it’s about a 15-minute drive to the shoreline and a bit longer to the hotel zone. If your main priority is being on the beach, you may find yourself spending a lot of time in transit and paying for parking and beach club access. However, if you’re looking for a unique, relaxing stay with stunning architecture, incredible pools, and an overall dreamy ambiance, Bardo is absolutely worth it.

The staff is warm and attentive, and the hotel offers great classes and activities to enhance the experience. I plan to return to Tulum and would love to stay at Bardo for 1-2 nights before moving to the beach for the remainder of my trip. Also, note that Bardo has a sister property right next door with another pool and restaurant that guests can use—we didn’t realize this at first! Additionally, their other sister property, Milam, might be an even better fit for some travelers, as it offers reciprocal access to classes and a slightly different vibe—definitely worth looking into before booking.

Overall, Hotel Bardo is an outstanding choice for those seeking a peaceful, design-forward retreat in Tulum. Highly recommend!

The hotel was great, picture perfect in image and the staff were brilliant. However it was slightly let down by the shower pressure being so high that it felt like it was cutting you. The private pools outside the rooms are very cold as they are constantly in the shade so more of a tonic than a use. Lastly it’s easy to be led that you can have breakfast in your private pool with floating tray of delicious food. But this is just for instagram and not a feature allowed by the staff. Overall it was great but a bit of the magic was lost which at the price tag you would hope for a shower you weren’t trying to avoid in 30 degree heat.

The properties aesthetic is Awe-Inspiring. There's a minimalist rustic feeling in the selection of the room's decorum. The place felt like we were in a remote retreat as we rearly heard or saw anyone from our room, besides the clamming yoga music at times and birds in early morning. There were staff keeping things clean and always close at it at hand. We did the spa experience and it was super relaxing. Although the property is located near the heart of the city, this very much feels like a private village. The pool is absolutely beautiful. And there are several little details hidden all over the place, that made it feel like a community.

My BF and I stayed at Bardo for 5 nights and really enjoyed the chill vibes and the chill music that played in the central pool/bar/restaurant area. The restaurant and bar offerings were very good though quite pricey - I was surprised to pay NYC prices for food and beverages but this was the case at all of the upscale restaurants we went to down by the beach. The spa was also really lovely - we did a couples massage and it was wonderful! Our room was spacious and felt very private. No issues with A/C as some may have mentioned in other reviews. We rented a car at the airport so were able to explore. The concierge was very helpful with suggesting a low-key, no minimum beach club so definitely ask for help on what you're looking to do!

It’s very nice very much for the aesthetics the food is a 6/10 you’re better off going off the property and this is not all inclusive so have your coins ready everything costs and try to fly into Tulum or playa del Carmen instead of Cozumel

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous!! The facilities are impeccable and very new. The ambiance and decor are beautiful, the food is truly spectacular and the service is amazing. It is very close to town but not in it so you get the privacy and quiet within a 5 min drive from the shopping and dinning of Tulum. We LOVED it and recommend it 100%.

This was the most amazing hotel stay we have had In a long time. My wife and I went for our 10 year anniversary and the staff was amazing from booking our car service to and from dinners to booking our excursions. They even played the World Series for us to watch we had to most amazing and relaxing time the drinks were excellent and so was the food. We will be back soon.

My time at Hotel Bardo was truly amazing! The moment I walked in I experienced amazing customer service. The front desk concierge Fernando Gonzalez was so thorough! He did a great job explaining everything and gave us a lovely tour of the facilities. I stayed in a one bed villa. Fernando did a great job booking my spa services and was very accommodating when I had to make a slight change. I got a deep tissue massage from Gloria and it was truly amazing. She was extremely responsive to my notes and did a good job checking in with me about the pressure throughout the service. I also experienced great service from Gabriel who helped me with my luggage and made me feel welcomed! I enjoyed the 24 hour pool and access to the restaurants and bars on site and at Una Vida. The staff at Una Vida were also really kind. Santos invited us and he was so kind to get us food as we enjoyed the pool. The food was amazing the elote was so yummy! I attended the jazz night they hosted. My stay was amazing I live Bardo’s vision to support people with disconnecting and being present. There were constant reminders to do that and I left so encouraged to disconnect to reconnect! Thank you Bardo for the restorative stay!

The property itself is very beautiful. A/C was nice and cold, the plunge pool was great (we used it almost every day of our stay). The restaurant was decent, but there are cheaper options in town. The location of the hotel is the only negative thing I have to say about this place. It's a bit of a walk.

Prepare to be Disappointed

Of course the pictures looked muy bonita. And with the high end price - we had great expectations. Imagine the disappointment when the reality was some Motel 6 maintenance, and Super 8 motel quality service. While we were there, the air conditioner, toilet and shower all stopped working. Room service took 90 minutes on arrival (only after we called and had to re-order again.) The next morning, the front desk refused to contact us despite the tour van request, so we missed the bus and had to take an $80 cab. When the toilet and shower stopped working, the front desk never contacted me after the maintenance guy gave up fixing it. They reluctantly gave us another room - where there was no hot water and we took cold showers the rest of the time. When asking what compensation the would offer after such a disastrous experience? The offered us one free beer and 10% off our NEXT visit. We won't be back.

Beautiful hotel providing peace and tranquility in the jungle on the edge of Tulúm. Fanando was especially brilliant!
A few issues: breakfast was just fine, but a bit limited and a bit stingy. They only let you have two items in your omelette.
Not that I’m a eco warrior, but they profess to be eco friendly, but were constantly collecting leaves into big plastic bags. The ecofriendliness just felt like a bit of a selling point, rather than a proactive thing they were really doing.
The aircon wasn’t really good enough. We got quite sweaty despite it being on max.

Don’t let my points put you off. We had a really great trip. They just need this feedback: 1. Don’t be so stingy with breakfast. 2. Be proactively eco friendly if that is really your thing. 3. Sort out the aircon.

Jay, Maria, & Julian were all extremely eager to help and make our stay seamless. The resort smelled amazing , can’t even describe until you’ve been there. The villas were clean , food was excellent & there were barely any bugs on the resort. If you want to relax in a tranquil jungle with the nicest staff ever , go to Bardo.
