The room had a nice balcony with a beautiful sea view and pristine beach. The pool was large and child friendly but without a lifeguard (probably not necessary)! There was a noticeable lack of staff - our room lacked towels when we arrived and we had to ask for our room to be cleaned after it was left for 2 days. Only 2 of the restaurants were open and the food was cold. The hotel is far away from KK so we could only eat at the 2 restaurants! There was no activity’s for children except the pool. The massage was good value for money and expertly done. Overall, this is a reasonable choice for those looking for a secluded getaway at an affordable price, but for our family with young children wishing to see more of Sabah, this didn’t fit the bill - we ended up checking out a day early and upgrading to a proper 5 star hotel in Tanjung Aru, which was the best decision we made.

Stayed at the Nexus for 2 weeks. Room had everything we needed and was clean and tidy. Amazing view from our balcony, overlooking a glorious beach. Didnt use the golf course but it looked well maintained and set out. Used alot of the amenities without issue. Staff are so polite and very attentive. Would have liked more dining choice, although there is building work happening which may solve this. 35 munutes ftom city so. although you are in a secluded area, its easy enough to use shuttle/taxi and experience everything on offer there. Would definately visit again.

Highly recommended - beautiful hotel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The hotel is in a beautiful setting. On arrival James and Felix gave us a lovely welcome & explained where everything could be found, we received a room upgrade with a sea view & balcony as they are completing works / upgrades to the restaurant & rooms. The works took place from 8am onwards, it didn't effect us. Its great to see the money being invested. Our upgraded room was beautiful with a wonderful sea view. The food in the restaurants was of a very high standard, the same for the breakfast. All the staff are an absolute credit to the hotel, the staff on reception, restaurant (evening and breakfast), tthe pool staff, the bar, the cleaners, even the workmen onsite. Very polite and can't do enough for you. Highly recommend, we will definitely be going back in the future. Large list of available day trips and things to do, away from the hotel and plenty to do at the hotel, water sports etc, highly recommend the spa, we had a massage which was amazing. Large list of treatments, all very reasonably priced. Thank you to everyone at the hotel that made our honeymoon & holiday so special.

The atmosphere is quite and you can hear the gorgeous sound of the bird
You can see many lovely animals like monkeys lizard many kinds of bird and squirrels
Standing on the balcony viewing the peaceful sea you know that life can really be a long adventure

Please reconsider stay- horrible stay. The buildings could be so beautiful but they have left it to literally fall apart. We were apparently in the new/upgraded wing yet building fallong apart, dirty and water stopped working for period of time. Garbage left around for our three say stay in corridors and pool area and only half restaurants are open and those that are offer poor quality food. The breakfast utensils were on kleenex papers and the Chinese restaurant smelled like smoke with stained table clothes and chairs. The beach and ocean is only redeeming factor but not worth the stay. I would say 2 star hotel rating. Consider rebooking elsewhere.

A very mixed review! I have now stayed here on five different occasions however it has noticeably in disrepair and badly maintained after Covid.
My stay this time was not great but on my previous stays 2006-2018 it was great therefore I will hope this is purely down to the effects of covid and will improve in the near future.

Short stay in Nexus Karambunai

Is a bit run down for the garden villa. Not suitable for elderly as buggy service drop off point is lobby, whereby restaurant is at lower floor and do not have lift service. Chinese restaurant service is not so good and it took an hour waiting time to serve food. Food choices limited for dinner and some are buffet which is not suitable for elderly and young kids.

The hotel staff were friendly enough but the hotel was a bit old and requires a bit of maintenance work. The food was quite disappointing and a lot of the things we wanted on the menu were out of stock. The kids activities were disorganised, whereby everything started late and only lasted 30mins when it was an hour activity. None of the water sport activities were available to do even though it was advertised everywhere. This hotel has so much potential but requires a lot of work to make it at a higher standard

Thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday here, we had two adjoining rooms that had beautiful views and were close to all amenities. Staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and their friendliness was outstanding. The restaurants were also outstanding and having live entertainment each evening was lovely. We would also recommend the Borneo Spa for a special treat and pamper. We would definitely love to return here one day, thank you.

Comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff.
Excellent location next to the sea. Private beach, very clean.
Wide choice of good quality food from at least five restaurants with different cuisines.
Not too busy, possibly low season. Most other guests were families or couples, majority Chinese with a few people from other areas.
A little isolated and quite far from the city (Kota Kinabalu), about 45 minutes journey by shuttle bus or taxi.

The staff are all courteous and offer excellent service especially in the F&B outlets. I visited this property in 2003 and it is the charm of the hotel that made me go back there again this time. Food at outlets is still good and you get quality for what you pay.

Nice view, nice landscape. However, it seems they are short of staff. No staff attended to us when we reach, only 1 staff at reception counter, no warm welcome by the staff like other resorts. Also, food served is not up to the quality.

first night the room is shabby and conditions are very bad. the following nights we change to another room but it is too far away to the swimming pool area but hotel staff can drive us. we found it inconvenient so changing room again. Besides, many flies in outdoor restaurant.

We had the nexus club room, these rooms are dark. As in, not enough lighting even when everything is wacked up high, so eating dinner with room.service was a bit difficult as it's so dark.

Our room was on the top floor -5th in the Ocean Wing and the view of the gardens, beach, ocean were amazing. We saw some great sunsets apart from it being cloudy. On the other side, i.e. when you come out of the room the views of the nearby forests and hills were superb.
I had emailed beforehand about our dietary requirements and got quick responses back confirming, however upon check in she didn't appear to know but would let the chefs know. At breakfast we had to explain our requirements again and they attempted to cater for us but only partly. It was a little disappointing as we'd told them well in advance but they did try their best at that point.
The rooms were clean, spacious and very comfortable. Had all the amenities e.g. toiletries, slippers etc.
The toilets around the bar/beach lacked cleaniness and 2 cubicles were used to store cleaning materials! They need to be maintained better.
There was a wedding one night and the guests almost took over the pool area. Private events should be cordoned off so as not to disturb other paying guests.

Awesome resort for couple or family

I had one of the best trip experience at this resort thanks to all the staff who genuinely dedicated to provide superb service.
Special thanks to all the Penyu restaurant staff especially the manager lady who showed true customer service for us.
The facility was well kept everywhere and all the food in every restaurant was excellent.
If you're looking for a gataway at KK and prefers stay off busy downtown to enjoy quiet and beautiful ocean and sand I strongly recommend this place and you won't regret. Thank you for making my trip memorable. Tremak gasi !

Dislike: not hotel’s fault but couldn’t swim in sea because it’s jellyfish season from March to June. Still a lot of plastic by beach/sea. Too far from town. A free shuttle to town would have been nice. So feel trapped by the resort as nothing around there.

We've booked this place a few times now, and it seems each stay is getting worse. This time our room was changed to a older section of the resort. We were close to what seemed like the sewage system, which didn't make it for nice view or smell.
We had a car, and we had pulled over on the side of the road to take pictures of birds that we saw. A security guard came and shooed us away, being quite forceful and rude in not letting us stay to take pictures. Wasn't a very nice welcome, and left a negative taste in our mouth.
Our bathtub also wasn't working very well, combined with our small refrigerator. We asked to get it fixed, but nothing happened.
Will think twice before booking this again.
Client hospitality can definitely be improved, as well as customer service.
Despite all of this, the beach itself is nice and secluded.

The resort is set on lovely grounds with lots of greenery. Some of the hotel is quite dated but they are currently undergoing renovations, which is good, but make sure you know this before choosing your room as there is alot of noise if your room is located near where they are working (and the renovations take place 7 days a week). We weren't advised of the renovations prior to our arrival and it did affect our enjoyment for teh first day but they were accommodating in moving us to an alternative wing after the first night.
The staff were all very friendly and happy to help and there are several restaurants to choose from but don't have any huge expectations for food - it was fine but not amazing. The mini mart onsite has a good variety of basic essentials and is reasonably priced which is a bonus given there is nothing else within walking distance.
A good place to stay for a couple of days relaxing in the sun.

The beach was excellent. The size of the property was ideal. It was large and spacious, perfect for a resort. It is getting a bit old and a bit sad. The breakfast was plain and other food was quite expensive.The Club facilities were very limited when compared with other hotels. The staff were excellent. Very nice, friendly and helpful.

We were locked out from our room 2 times.. waited for 1 hour to get the door open. 2nd time waited outside the room With our kids sleeping inside. In the morning we just left our door unlock to avoid trouble waiting... Not even any courtesy to give any compensation for the bad facilities. The only thing nice is Beautiful clean beach.

Broken safe deposit at room , for dinner waiting almost 15 min at sunset bar but no staff entertain and giving the menu , we proceed to the buffet at kingfisher, no one at the roasted duck station , buffet with less food choices . Picture perfect resort BUT service MUST improve

The location is great, the architecture perfect for the location and facilities are immaculate. This is the good part. Sandflies are everywhere in the region, so won't hold against them. BUT completely inadequate reception desk is not acceptable. To keep the story short, in spite of checking in 1:30 hours after 2pm (checkin time) one of the room was not ready and it took stern words to get it prepared, and even then it was not fully equipped for 2 occupants. We risked missing a flight in spite of requesting check out 30 minutes in advance, with a failed luggage pick up, being handed wrong car keys (as the valet failed to bring the car, we went to fetch it ourselves). Could go on and on... Once you are in, it is really nice. In and out process is the worst I ever encountered. I gave feedback to the staff and tried to describe how comparable hotels would operate, just to be met by blank stares...and not even an apology. Only bright star is Steward by the entrance who saw my youngest daughter lugging luggage and proactively offered help. He is the only one who deserves to work in a hotel above 1 star.

Nice grounds, aging hotel, poor service overall

We visited for a family trip. Overall the resort is aging, the grounds are quite clean though. We experienced fire ants problems on our bed twice. Apparently the next door room had encountered similar problems when I overheard the service staff conversing in Malay in which I am fluent.
The first time the staff changed the bed sheets and when it happened the second time, we requested for a room change. There is a disconnect between the management and the front service staff. Requests made via the front staff seemed to had fallen on deaf ears when they called to ask about our experience and seemed surprised when we related our problems and requests after we had called a few times over 45 minutes.
Food quality is average and is expensive in relation to the price paid. Service staff seemed unenthusiastic when taking orders and entertaining our requests. A simple request to join tables to allow a larger group to sit together for breakfast was refused but later on when another group was allowed, they begrudgingly allowed us with some grumbling. Some of the tiles in the swimming pool had sharp edges and nicked my childrens’ and nephew’s toes.

PARADISE... (but service needs improvement).

Stayed for 3 nights. The place is really nice nothing to complain about, I could say it's a \"paradise\" and we're already looking forward to going back here. It's really a WOW!!
But of course there's always a \"not-so-good\" experiences during our stay. The reception should be prepared as it will be very toxic because of the \"Aidilfitri\" holiday. We drove from Brunei for about 7-8hours and arrived around 2pm (just in time for check-in), but the room was not ready yet and was told to wait. I was like \"come on! I'm dead tired because of the long drive\". I'd asked for a temporary room for us to rest for a while until our room is ready. So they'd gave us this temporary room and maybe around 30min they let us go to our room (designated). The air-conditioning is very poor! It took hours to cool the whole room, I even requested for a stand fan but was not available. I call for service to check and told me that was the \"normal cooling\" of the aircon. Sigh! The breakfast buffet is just fine, same foods everyday but wasn't so bad actually.
The beach is very nice as well as the pool. Plenty of restaurants within the resort. We went to Sunset Bar for some drinks at night, just along the beach.
Overall it was a great stay! But I hope they'll improve the service.
One more thing to add up, I could say they lack on maintaining the rooms. They have to focus on the maintenance as well. It was really a nice place, please maintain it properly.

overall impression is very bad upon checkin front desk told me that my room was not ready and I waited in the lobby for two hours consequently I arrived at the front desk for checking after 2 PM and the listed to check in time was 2 PM however I was still kept waiting no let me talk about breakfast I was asked to dine at a very small place with very little choices While many other people dying in March home with much more choices of food. I raised my complaint about this short of food selection when I check out and the receptionist told me I should have told her earlier I believe I will not stay at this hotel unless I absolutely round out of choices

Lovely hotel and staff. Beach was lovely - soft white sand and generally clean (although on a couple of days, there was a lot of rubbish coming in from the sea the staff took a while to deal with). Restaurants very nice and accommodating on providing veg food.

This hotel is absolutely wonderful. The service is second to none- everyone was charming and helpful and incredibly friendly. Our room- an ocean view deluxe - had an incredible view of the sea and was spacious and beautifully presented. The beach and general location is absolutely stunning- a beautiful sandy beach framed by jungle with fantastic waves for jumping. The beach bar serves wonderful cocktails with a dreamy view - and the sunset bar certainly lived up to its name. The pool was great too and the Malaysian and Chinese restaurants were also delicious. We very much hope to return!

The hotel is kept beautifully clean all day and the cleaning staff are always so polite and smiling. The food is varied, some amazing meals, some a little unhealthy! But overall a good standard. Great family facilities. Stunning views, amazing value for money.

We booked a king bedroom at this resort for one night. We received a room that had two single beds pushed together to form one king bed. Other parts of the room were dated and broken down.

We informed the staff regarding the bed situation and she informed us that they were all booked out. Unimpressed by the type of room advertised to customers. If you do not have a king bedroom do not advertise availability! We had a random broken lamp in a corner in the room. The flush in the toilet was not working well either. The bath tub stopper was also broken.

We had to ask for a wifi router in order to get wifi in the room.

Other than the room itself, service was good.

There are many amenities on the property, many restaurants and all of them are at best, alright. Food was not great here. The drinks are also mediocre at best.

The beach however is well maintained and clean. Nice quiet and private beach area. Very beautiful grounds and landscaping as well. The golf course looks pristine but we did not play golf.

However for the price, I will not recommend. The rooms need an update. Everything is falling apart and the bed situation was horrible.

The hotel should have at least provided an upgrade or discount when they gave us two beds pushed together as one instead of a king bed like we booked.

Room was quite old and does not have internet access in the rooms you have to go to the lobby or restaurants to get access which is quite a hassle especially at night.

The room also smells cigarette smoke. The hotel staff tried spraying some fragrant spray but still did not work. When we checked in our room, the toilet and drawers are still dirty. seems they just cleaned the obvious areas.

Hotel taxi three times the price of a metred taxi 90 RM vs 30 RM; taxi ordered by hotel tried to hide meter and demanded 90 RM.

Was told at Check-in that putting down a deposit gets 20% discount on food, drinks, laundry and spa services. Discount to be applied at check-out. Clerk at check-out insisted discount had already been applied, even though there were no discounts on the bill. Took ten minutes of back-and-forth and showing my receipts to get him to admit discount had NOT been applied. If I hadn't queried the bill, then I would have lost the equivalent of over 100USD. Additionally, they did not tell me that discount did NOT include alcoholic drinks until AFTER they had my money.

Spa - all packages came with \"full use of spa\". Except, there was no hot water for showers, jacuzzi, hot tub, plunge pool all out of order. Steam and sauna only turned on if booked in advance. Was told AFTER treatments that packages were not subject to 20% discount. Desk manager gave us free reflexology treatment.

Room doors have security feature that makes them beep if left open. Good feature, problem is, doors always think they are open if locked. Was disturbed three times in the morning by the beeping and twice late at night.

Run down condition will not stay again

Heater not working , no soap plate , broken soap/ shampoo stand not fixed no place to put my shampoo.
Table lamp not working , bedside table control button was faulty and got an electrical shock while trying to on/ off .
WIFI bad , even 4G reception is zero.
Floor tiles and staircase tiles in lobby area are all chipped off . Flushing WC is lousy , must press and hold for 10 sec .
Toilet in lobby very dirty and no tissues for all the 6 days I was there

A truly great hotel in Borneo

Very comfortable hotel in beautiful sprawling, private grounds next to its own private beach. I spent 9 days here at the end of September, beginning of October with my husband and two friends. This was my second visit, and our friends first visit. I was slightly nervous at the negative reviews, as our first experience had been excellent.

Our second stay was as equally excellent, I don't know why people are making bad reviews. The hotel is lovely, in beautiful grounds, the beach is well kept. There is a choice of restaurants and the meals, although slightly more expensive than Kota Kinabalu town, are still very reasonably priced and varied. The buffet nights are certainly great value for money and include your beer and wine.

The hotel staff are very accommodating, polite and will help you with anything you need, including transportation in and out of Kota Kinabalu town. Taxi's are reasonably priced, particularly if there are four of you to share a car. I arranged collection through the hotel for airport transfers, all went smoothly. Th hotel does operate a bus, but taxi's are readily available.

There are many trips. We spent a day visiting Kota Kinabalu mountain including a canopy walk way, even in monsoon rains! Another trip included a day snorkelling and a zip wire experience from island to island. The crocodile park is worth a half day visit. Our visit to a local tribe was fascinating. Kota Kinabalu fish market is great for freshly cooked fish.

How my favorite hotel turned to be worst stay

I stayed in this resort in 2008 and it was an amazing experience but in 9 years everything changed dramatically to form my worst stay ever in my life, unfortunately I expected to rewind my back paradise days with family and bring back lovely memories, instead I had a different time, I would like to highlight that Malaysia Tourism Market is focusing currently on Chinese and Korean market rather than international tourism, according to that their quality degraded gradually to narrow down expenses, as a result of that I had to accept a breakfast for 4 nights as omelette and hotdog only with no other option in a restaurant without any air conditioning at a temperature as high as 32 and flys are having the same breakfast with you, I addressed my concerns many times but with no response, the evening near the beach cafe bar was a little bit acceptable, mosquitos bites are very normal even inside my room, pillows was smelly until I requested replacement, all hotel facility except the room and the Spa are suffering from AC problems, I really regretted to stay over there

Might be the best beach front property in the area

Excellent resort hotel just outside Kota Kinabalu. However I would recommend renting a car if you stay at this property. Nothing is in walking distance outside the property, but they do offer daily shuttle service to the city. I stayed in the 1 bedroom suite and it was suite! Great ocean front double patio with comfy lounge chairs. The resort sit on a bay so the water is safe to swim, but also no big waves. The service staff is very friendly even with guests I saw being a little rude in return. There is also a very nice golf course that is too busy and not to difficult. This resort maybe the best value for a high end stay in the area. I got my suite for ~$290 USD per night. It was close to 1000 sq ft plus the large (semi private) balcony. Three criticisms: The big one is the walls are thin. You will hear everything going on with your neighbor. Two the breakfast buffet is just lacking, As a westerner (who likes Asian food), there wasn't much to offer that was good. And last, like most places in Asia, the in-room coffee sucks. It's instant Nescafe...one step up from Sanka. Oh, and the Wi-Fi is a little slow.
I would definitely stay here again if I had a rental car and the regular room is probably good enough so you can save money there ~$200 USD per night would be a good deal

Very nice hotel no bugs. Did a good job!

Everything is excellent, except the bathroom need to remodel toilet seat need to replace the plastic turn yellow and the bath room phone need to be change it seem like it the 70's. comfort are is very good. I will stay again when I am in town as long the bath room is remodel.

My wife and I enjoy the stay of the resort. It is about 40min from city. However the hotel has diff restaurants， so we can just chill the whole day there enjoying the wonderful beach and swimming pools.

Bed is comfortable. Facilites is good, they have everything. condition, a bit old. Lumination in the streets needs to be improve. Lumination in the room may need to be improve too. Number of power outlets in rooms for guests to charge their electronic appliances needs to be added. room service is perfect and price is reasonable, considering. Treatment for special occassions is good. Staff is polite, friendly and helpful. Location is a bit far off from KK town, but if you intend to relax, it is quite alright. Overall, it was a nice stay.

The beach is long and nice but quite a fair bit of rubbish is found on the beach line; straws, cups, plastics. Food is expensive and options out of hotel are far unless you have your own transport. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Facilities are a bit dated. It's a nice, relaxing place away from the city.

i paid rm48x per room per night. so i expected good quality stay. the surrounding is beautiful no doubt but breakfast was a major letdown.the food was poorly prepared and there was no taste to it whatsoever. no variety.u can expect the same menu everyday. the only good thing abt it was the ambience.

We stayed with the Nexus Club and it was great. The Breakfast Nexus Ninja's were so much fun, was a great start to the day, breakfast was great with freshly squeezed OJ. The rooms are getting a bit datedbut still nice. The prices for meals and drinks was a bit more expensive than other hotels in Borneo. I used the spa and although it was a great experience it was expensive. The beach was nice. We enjoyed the staff at the Bar & Grill, alot more relaxed and easy going. We booked for two nights and then added on an extra night. Getting the Nexus Club was worth the extra. Thanks Ninja's!

The private beach was beautiful. The staff was very friendly. If you are going with a young family, this is a great place to relax. However, the rooms need to be refurbished. The toilet barely flushes and if you require in room internet access, this is not the place.
