A cosy guesthouse on the seafront. We were allocated a room upstairs, unfortunately not a sea view, hopefully next time. We had our own bathroom close to the bedroom. We parked in the council carpark close by, popped out at 9am to pay for the day, £3. Marea and staff were friendly and hospitable. We enjoyed our stay.

Couldn’t have tea or coffee in the room because the teapot had standing water in it when we arrived and the pot was stained and needed cleaning. Will not return nor recommend this place to others.

Room was comfortable and clean - just a cobweb up high on the ceiling and a bit of dust on the upper window shutters. The decor in a few places is showing wear, but overall, this is excellent value for money and a delightful seafront B&B. Will certainly be staying again. 👍

Booked last minute and Julia was there to greet me on arrival. I had my dog with me and she was also made most welcome! There was a doggy welcome bag in the room which was a beautiful touch! Really homely atmosphere and lovely breakfast! Will most definitely stay again!

The Cara, is without a doubt the best place I have stayed in the past few years, I arrived after the check-in time, and was greeted in a very , very friendly way, the owners son carried my bag from my car, got me checked in, asked after my welfare,room was spotless and extremly comfortable, a very quiet house too, in morning the breakfast was fantastic, ideal morning atmosphere, I will have no hesitation staying here again.....James

We received a lovely warm welcome from Mariea. After arriving earlier than planned we were able to drop our cases off, Mariea explaining that our cases would be taken to our room.
We even got an upgraded room due to someone cancelling.
The room was lovely, clean and spaceous with a fabulous sea view. Tea / coffee facilities. TV. Hairdryer.
It was like home from home.
Mariea ensured our stay was one to remember. Nothing was too much trouble.
The full English breakfast was excellent and set us up for our day of walking.

The room was really nice it was one off the on suite rooms at the top of the House. Comfortable beds. Clean, shower room good shower hot . Heating was off when we arrived but the room had 2 free standing heaters which did the job . View from room lovely. Breakfast very nice. Staff friendly. Parking although we were told we could park in the next road there were no spaces but just 50 yards away there is a large car park with free overnight parking . Good price for a very nice B&B

Unfortunately my room was very shabby, there was exposed pipework, holes in the flooring and worn, chipped furnishings. On the positive side the bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast was also very disappointing, there was little choice, the milk had gone off and my eggs were under cooked and raw in parts.
In all not what I expected for its 3 star rating.

Marie’s from Cara contacted me to advise that the guest was was in the room that was to be ours had fallen and was able to move. She said that she would be unable to put us up. However, Marisa did find us a room in another guesthouse, The Chedburgh, and made all the arrangements. We were not at all put out and are grateful to Maura for arranging everything.

Horrible experience, avoid this place! There was no one at the hotel to check us in when we arrived at 5:45 PM on a Friday, just a note on the locked door to call \"Carol\". Well, Carol never answered the two phone calls/messages we left, nor the text from another guest who told us Carol was out playing Bingo. The owner finally responded to one of my 3 emails telling me that she was in California and that Carol should be there to let us in. Well she wasn't, so after waiting outside in the dark for 2 1/2 hours with my children we were forced to go to another hotel and pay more than we had budgeted.

I stayed here for 5 days whilst doing a training course in North Shields, very friendly staff, there's a shop, cafe and takeaways round the corner, I used the public car park round the other corner for my stay, great view from upstairs, great breakfast.

This guest house is right across from the sea, the room was very cute, and room #5 is perfect for a single. I loved it. I sometimes worry about sharing a bathroom but it was fine. Two of them on the second floor, and I never had to wait. Nice shower heads and good water pressure. They make a great breakfast too, and it was a great price!

Beautiful views. The breakfast was nice. The woman who runs it is really personable. It was comfy and clean. The showers and bathrooms were in the hall, which I thought would be an issue, but it was not.

I arrived early and was able to checkin at 10 am which was fantastic as I had been travelling through the night. My idea of great accomodation is to look out at the ocean when I wake and this provided that.

Right on the sea front my room had a sea view and is just round the corner from a fabulous fish & chip restaurant and arcade shops. As a family of six, we were all put in one large room. With our luggage, it was a bit tight, but manageable. The parking, which was said to be \"onsite,\" was actually two streets away and there were no reserved spots, and we were not particularly happy to have to go up a flight of stairs to the bathroom. But other than those issues, we really liked it there. The owner is very sweet and served up a wonderful breakfast to order. The neighborhood is beachside, right near several amusement locations, but was relatively quiet and felt safe. I would recommend it for smaller families or couples.

Great little guesthouse on the seafront. Good service and good value for money. 10 minutes walk to Monkseaton Metro Station, 30 mins to Monument from there. Friendly pub round the corner, others are a 10 minutes walk. Only downside is the parking, everywhere is permit only. I got away with it but others might not.

Cara Guest House has an unobstructed view of the coast from the little garden in the front, as well as from some rooms. Carol was welcoming and treated every guest like a friend. She's an experienced cook too, and the cooked breakfast was beautifully set out and delicious. Communication was excellent. The rooms are old but clean and warm.

The room was modest and basic but the bed was blissfully comfortable. Shower was clean, water nice and hot. The quietness of the place was really appreciated and I slept soundly all night.
The next morning I was met by a cheerful Carol armed with beautifully poached eggs on toast just as I had asked (I am veggie so didn't want the full English). Fresh orange juice, piping hot tea and more toast with a choice of jams and preserves really set me up for the day. We came to our hotel only to find that the family room did not have an ensuite as advertised. The beds had hair in them, and stains on the wall. Needless to say we complained to the management and left to find other accommodations. After traveling all day from London to find a room that was not clean and no bathroom left us feeling very distraught. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

For the price, this is a great little guesthouse. My room was clean with a comfortable bed, WIFI, TV and coffee making facilities. The landlady is friendly and cooks a great Full English. The only downside is that there isn't any easy free parking, you have to park in a residential street around 200 yards away, but that's typical of Whitley Bay.

Although we liked the location (ocean view, right off the beach), the room was a bit of a tight fit for 5 people. The beds were not quite as comfortable as I liked, and I wish that we didn't have to go down the hall and up the stairs to get to a bathroom. All and all, a decent hotel.

Hotel is wonderful. Great (big) breakfast and very accommodating. The hotel is clean and is right across from the beach and a few blocks away from several restaurants and the downtown area. Train stop is also an easy walk (it takes about 45 minutes by train from the airport with one change). Given the price, location, and breakfast you will certainly not be dissapointed if you stay here. If you don't want to share a bathroom be sure to book one of the suites. Even if you do share it is not a problem since there are multiple bathrooms to share and only a few rooms to share them with. Plus, all rooms have sinks.

Nice small Hotel but shopping is about 10 mins to walk. The bedrooms do have Televsion, Tea and Coffee with Fresh milk from small plastic cups with Biscuits. Please note the Toilets and Showers are outside my bedroom! Breakfast does have cook Breakfast , Orange Juice and toasts with jam and Marslade (Orange Jam) When I leave table I saw some packets of cornflakes but NO bowls!!!

A nice beach when you open your front door.
We stayed at Cara's place recently, family of four. Cara put us in a huge bedroom that has 2 queen and 2 twin beds. It could accommodate 6 people easily. It was a fantastic room. There is a sink inside the room so you can brush your teeth and do any quick wash right there but you have to go upstairs for shower/toilets. The house has 2 showers and 2 toilets. I have stayed at the Cara a few times prior to my recent one, It's safe to say that i will NOT be booking into the Cara again. I got the warm welcome i remember, given my key, went to my single room, I am SO glad i did not pay the £50 current rate, but paid £25 due to a cancellation, bargain i thought ....... wrong, To boil the kettle you had to unplug the television, the sink was the smallest i have ever seen (obviously meant for the use of children) with no plug!!, if you ran the tap for 30secs the sink filled up of its own free will, I went to pour myself a glass of juice only to discover the glass had some sort of solidified food stuck to it, so had to use my shower gel to clean the glass. i was down for a family event, so obviously wanted to be able to do my hair etc as us women do, well, try putting on make up and doing your hair in a mirror that is about a foot square with the worst lighting possible with no room to manouver as the bed is directly behind you if you stand at the mirror above the tiny sink, then i had the worst nights sleep ever, as the room is directly above the front door, so you are constantly awoken with doors banging, that also includes within the hotel as you have to slam your room door to get it to close properly. When you do finally go down for breakfast, you are greeted with more dirty glasses and clearly the cheapest brand of baked beans and sausages around. Total Joke!!.

Ideal For Every One
The welcome was very friendly, my room was clean, The bed was comfortable, a flat screen tv that worked and with perfect signal and plenty off channels to choose from. Even thou its on the sea front, I found it very quiet. The full english breakfast was very nice and was served within 5 minutes off arriving in the breakfast room. Would use again if in the area.
