The room was clean. The door was a bit broken and one or two fittings needed to be replaced (very minor issues). The staff couldn't have been more helpful, the breakfast was excellent. My only observation on that was that not all the hot items were on the buffet at the same time. Not the biggest problem but I like to get my food and sit down without having to keep getting up to see if the fried eggs and black pudding had appeared. Having said that, this will definitely be our first choice of hotel when we come back to Newcastle. One other suggestion- it would be helpful to have a footpath from the entrance gate to the hotel door.

On arrival. The receptionist said to go down a couple of steps to the room. It was actually down 3 lots of stairs. Along 2 corridor abd then up another 2 lots of stairs. Room was very small and in basement. Bathroom not the cleanest. Then when trying to get to sleep. The next door were shouting and banging doors. At 1 30 am had to go to reception to report it. As phone in room did not work.

if you intend to use the leisure facilities your best to arrive early and make full use as £7 is a little pricey if you arrive in the evening, expect it too be busy.

Stayed at this hotel numerous times. Unfortunately this time i didnt have the best experience. Staff was helpful and great but the rooms were very cold and i tried 3 different ones. Also iy was disappointing to see that hotel customers have to pay extra for the spa. It was one of the selling points why i always stayed there. I dont think the hotel gives me the value for money anymore and would not stay again.

First impressions are good. The windows all need replacing however and our room was very cold until we kept the curtains closed and stuffed them behind the radiator. Overall, the room seemed clean and mostly smart but when you look closer, it’s time for a make-over. Switch to refillable toiletries, our room wasn’t made up despite our asking.
I believe Britannia now own this building so not optimistic this hotel can be restored to the flag-ship upmarket hotel it once was. Lots of money needed to even re-glaze the building and £47 per night isn’t enough.

Staff overall pleasant however heads up early checkins really only an option when asking ahead. My room was great and comfy. Be advised if you haven't drove you will need public transport or a taxi to get into center but they are both easy to use. I would recommend.

The room was spacious as was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe space. However it wasn't a quiet room due to the lack of double glazed windows - we overlooked the carpark so could hear noise from there. There were several quick fixes which would've made our stay more enjoyable. Bedroom doors need oiling so that guests can't hear constant squeaking. Plug holes need unblocking as the bath fills with water when you shower. A lamp would be useful on the dressing table/desk as would more accessible sockets by the beds. Stain/varnish furniture which looks dated and scratched. Extra pillows for beds.

The hotel room was not cleaned properly, the bathroom especially. The furniture was very dated. The room was grubby. Hotel Saved by the lovely lady at check in. To be fair the rate was cheap so I wasn’t expecting luxury but the attention to detail in terms of cleaning is poor. I didn’t shower in the morning as I didn’t feel the bathroom was hygienic. Maybe I just got unlucky. Won’t stay again.

Booked a twin room but we received a double room, spoke to reception and were told that it was hotel.com’s fault, nothing they could do.

Pillows were very hard, had no give in them.

The curtains weren’t blackout so room was still very light in the middle of the night

Overall, didn’t get much sleep, not the best experience.

We understood we booked a double cosy room, but the curtains were hanging on for dear life, the main radiator did not work in our room, even though the reception lied and said it would turn on at 5.30pm. In the room was an oil radiator which we had on but it didn't warm the room at all, said radiator had a missing wheel too.

The mattress was awful and were only provided 1 single rock hard pillow each.

It was a room where it was cleaner to leave your shoes on.

The only plus was they were instant hot water in the bathroom and thank goodness as we had to have a hot shower to try to get warm.

Room was 503.

Would definitely not recommend, unless you want cheap & cheerful stag do accommodation, then it would be perfect!

The 1970//80s style is generally well maintained throughout the property and its grounds: heavy, wood, concrete and swirly carpets, adonised aluminium window frames. Everything is functional and all the important bits were clea; the occasional 'edge' has been knocked off though and the corridor carpets could do with a clean in places etc.
As a combined hotel and conference venue with a convenient location ('service retail park': petrol garage, 7 EV charging points, Mac D's, Pub, Costa, Subway, Asda 'Go' on the other side of the roundabout, 3 minutes from the A1) it is unbeatable though; no aircraft noise though airport closeby.
The hotel is quiet when I go typically at the weekend with maybe 5-10 people in the bar on the Sunday evening; drinks reasonably priced.
The Racecourse in walking distance - as is the park it is set in with copious running/walking trails in it and the country park <1mile away - if you want to stretch your legs.
The 'Upsells' are a concern: the pool/gym/sports club is extra and the breakfast costing 50% of the room rate an insult frankly (tip: MCD's + others across the road and IKEA at Metro center).

I opted for this hotel which was more expensive because it had a pool not only to find when we got there that you had to pay for the pool every morning but noone under the age of 16 is allowed. Not great when your a single parent. There was also just bedside lights to light up the room and as we arrived at night we did not notice until the next day all around the windows and curtains was cover in 2 different types of thick black and white mould which it looked like was also up the wall. This is probably the worst hotel i have ever stayed in.

I booked a standard double room however when i got there they told me they had none of those rooms available and placed me in a room with no windows. This room was in a secluded part of the hotel and had no aircon so the room was absolutely boiling. I've stayed here many times before and never had an issue with the comfort of the beds however this room was extremely uncomfortable i had no sleep as the bed and pillows were like rocks and the room was red hot. I received no refund even though i payed more money for my original room and the room i was placed in was cheaper.

The Grand Hotel is a good choice after an evening meeting at Newcastle races as it is a short walk from the racecourse. The bar area is warm and welcoming however our room was rather disappointing. The room was in the basement with only a small window. On arrival the room was cold and the main heating did not work though there were portable heaters. Also there was a lot of dust behind the bedside tables.

Room was a bit delapidated - bathroom was nice though! They definitely invested in the reception / entrance and left then parts of the hotel alone. Heating didn’t work so it had an oil filled portable radiator in which wasn’t enough to keep the room warm. The phone didn’t work so we rang externally to order room service and were told ‘ah well you’ll need to come down’. Also the man in front of us checking in was being moved due to some ‘large’ insects in his original room

We really enjoyed our stay at the Gosforth Park Hotel. It was unplanned, as we had to reschedule due to issues with another location. But we able book a room easily with Gosforth. The staff were wonderful and accommodating during our 4 day stay. Prices are wonderful, the rooms are large and spacious, the gym and poor are fantastic. Could not recommend more.

Stayed here 4 nights, first impressions were good but slightly dated. Curtain was hanging off rail, which was promtly fixed. But hook was just took off other end so that end was hanging off!. The matteress was quite hard , but everyone likes their own bed. The room was clean and catered for our needs. We did use the hotel breakfast option , which was ok apart from the bacon which was very dried out, and tough to eat. We chose this hotel as it was close to family and it was convenient, and we would use it again.

A pleasant weekend

We had stayed in this hotel many times when it was a Marriott, and once when changed to Britannia. Since our last visit the public areas have been redecorated and bedrooms too (but not new furniture). The hotel is convenient for us in Newcastle and has ample parking, although now has ANPR and you need ro gregister yout card. Leisure centre is now a chargeable extra.
We plan to return soon.
