Nice friendly place to stay with an excellent breakfast. Staff are lovely and helpful. Free parking is an advantage. Great area in jesmond, 20 mins walk into town or you can have a 5 minute walk to west jesmond metro station and easily commute into the centre of Newcastle or even continue to Tynemouth or the airport.

Room ok, bathroom great, staff spot on but building and room way too hot in March, noisy especially 6am deliveries to Waitrose and the doors to the rooms feel like the walls are going to collapse when they close!! Nice bed but shame we couldn't have a good night's sleep in it!!

We stayed in hotel across as we had a twin room. There was zero security as the keycard access was non-existent so anyone could (and did) just walk in off the street all the way upto the bedrooms. There was a massive fight right outside our bedroom with a loads of lads in the night. Terrible

Mould in the ceiling, no towel rails in the bathroom. Got put into a property across the street where finding our room was like an Orienteering exercise, our room number (500) did not show on any signs making it extremely difficult. There is no airconditioning and a window was locked shut which they claimed they hadn't known about. The sound didn't work on BBC1 TV, they said they'd send someone but after 1/2 hour wait we said it was too late to keep waiting. The only positives were the price and the room was quiet. I wouldn't want to repeat the experience.

2nd stay at The Cairn, but this time we were allocated a room in the Carlton building above the Sky Bar. The receptionist kindly offered to swap us to the main hotel but we thought we'd try the Carlton room for a change. The room was smaller than previous and had a fusty smell on first entering but all the bedding and towels were lovely and clean. The room was well equipped, including USB charging points and a fridge. As warned, the music from the Sky Bar was very loud but only until 11pm, so it didn't cause a problem for us, but guests may prefer to take earplugs if an earlier night is needed. It's in a great location, close to all the bars and restaurants of Jesmond. Nice to have use of free parking on site.

We have stayed here in the past and had no complaints. This time the room was tiny (reception moved us to one that was slightly bigger as they said they didn’t understand why we were given that one when we booked in advance), but the new room was on the corridor and had doors banging most of the night and bathroom was dirty.

The staff are really helpful. We had a probkem with the heating in our room without any fuss we were hiven another room. Breakfast was lovely and fresh. I opted for the continental breakfast which was good but I did think it was a bit expensive. The same price as the Full English @ £13.95!

Room walls are VERY thin and the waste pipes mush have been built into the inside dividing wall . Constant flushing and running water All Night.
Also we had a family in the next room with very small children .
We could hear every word spoken and every cry . Most of the night.
To top it all we were above the door that led to the rear exit.
Everyone that smoked stood outside and the smoke constantly drifted up into our room.
Not a pleasant stay at all.
We were due to stay 2 nights but packed up very early next day and moved on

I was originally booked into a room in the building across the road - but on arrival, I was given an upgrade to a very nice double ensuite room in the main hotel.
Some online reviews said it was noisy because there are a lot of bars nearby - but I didn't find it noisy at all. The staff are very kind and friendly. The romm was clean and comfortable. There is no lift - which may be a consideration for some. It has free parking behind the hotel - which, for me, was a big plus as parking around Newcastle is difficult to find and rather expensive. If you don't use a car, West Jesmond Metro Station is a few minutes walk away.

Overall. Neat tidy rooms. However needing a lot of TLC.
Can feel the springs in the bed, evidently hasn’t been dusted in a while , sink hanging off the wall in the bathroom, shower was very poor , no toilet paper or facial tissues. Room fridge lukewarm. Telephone did not work either. Towels were stained and had an unpleasant damp smell.

Its not a bad hotel its just not particularly great.

Location is good and bed was comfy and shower ok.

Disappointing nowhere to store luggage - other than leaving it in the lobby.

Quite noisey and rooms arent the most soundproofed..

All in all, given how little it cost - it still offered good value for money!

4th floor \"Superior Room\" (no lift) and no heating in rooms freezing -2c outside, went to Reception got one radiator working but not in bathroom. Told get someone next day. Next morning went to make a hot drink and now no water to sink,shower or toilet.Back down asked to be moved twice told will get it fixed. Left hotel and returned .Water on but no heating in bath room and door wont close. Got rad fixed but not door, giving a spare rad to help. Never used the shower last day as I was told it was leaking through into the room below. Left hotel after the fiasco of getting my car unblocked. I have stayed here many times without any issues but not anymore. So disappointed.

The room was clean, however appeared smaller compared to the image. The bathroom door didn’t shut and got locked inside luckily had my phone with me! Staff was quick and helped me get out. The property location was good and bus stop right outside made travel very convenient.

Room wasn’t amazing. Bathroom was very mouldy and some of the tiles were completely loose - I cut my toe on one when I got out of the shower! The reading lights in the room were either completely ripped out of the wall or just didn’t work. There was brown marks on one of the towels and the toilet seat wasn’t properly attached and slid around under you.
Be mindful of where your room could be. I am disabled and had to make my way up 3 flights of stairs, then down some more(?) to get to our room. We were in a sister building (Carlton) where there was no staff on reception the entire time. I even rang reception at one point and there was no answer. But the gentleman in the Cairn on reception was lovely and even gave my little boy a little colouring pack which was super generous and kept my little boy occupied for a while. Deliveroo wouldnt deliver to the hotel either (just a heads up if you can’t get out like me but need essentials!)

Extremely poor visit. This hotel feels incomplete. Staff are rude and refuse to help.

I booked 2 rooms for my family. The first room stunk of weed and the radiators did not work, leaving the room freezing.

The doors to the second room don’t lock and there is mould in lots of areas of the room.

Other guests are extremely loud with no response from staff.

Do not stay here. Don’t waste your time!

Room was very hot, opened window for air but a noisy extractor/boiler fan outside was very loud, staff on reception were unhelpful stating heating was on a timer and the fan should stop when the kitchen closed, it didn’t, after little sleep I was then delayed leaving in the morning as my car was blocked in.
Wish I had paid slightly more for the Caledonian I had stayed in previously.

Wasn’t impressed with the stay at all - bed appeared to be broken , towels dirty fixtures like toilet seat completely broken. Whilst I accept bars and restaurants below rooms create noise wasn’t expecting blaring music on a Tuesday night until 11pm. Then to have poor service in the breakfast area when I was the only person in wasn’t acceptable. I didn’t stay for another night and booked another hotel. Would not stay here again:

The staff were very welcome and helpful at both the reception and the restaurant.
We were lucky to be able to use the free on site parking. The bus route is directly outside and the train was just a 5 minute gentle walk away, both takes you straight into the centre.
We had a small double room on the top floor but did all we needed as a base whilst we explored the Newcastle area.
The bathroom did initially have a damp smell until we found that the extractor had been turned off.
Therr is no A/C but they did provide an electric fan.
The room also had a small fridge which was great.
Plenty of eateries within walking distance.
It can be quite loud in the area due to students at outside areas at bars but with the window closed we blocked most of it out.
Would definitely stay again but maybe choose a bigger room if more than 1 person staying.

After reading some reviews we was pleasantly suprised we had a free upgrade on our room,the room was not the biggest but it was clean and warm the bedding was fresh and clean and comfy.Some of the hotel could do with some tlc but nothing drastic.Some noise from outside but nothing after 11.We booked breakfast which was a cooked breakfast which you helped your self to.All in all we had a good stay and will stay again

VIP access nit acknowledged hy the hotel, so dudnt benefit fron the 20% discount thst Hotels.com were offering. Spent over £17 on dinner and a drink. Didnt have breakfast as i thought £13.95 was rather pricy.

After i had booked, i received a warning from the hotel about late night noise from the bar below. What i didn't expect though was other guests running around shouting much of the night. The annex i was staying was unstaffed. Not a hotel to stay in if you want to get any sleep.

Nice stay for us but didn’t realize it’s right above a bunch of university bars! We laughed upon arrival the first night as there were probably 100 students drinking on the patio directly below the window. They close at around 11 and by 12 is perfectly quiet, so this wasn’t actually an issue for us, but if you’re travelling with children or sleep early, I’d maybe consider other lodging.

The stay was incredible and I really appreciate how they were able to extend my stay last minute. The rooms were really clean and well designed and the cafe downstairs was great for snacks and breakfast. The location was also great, as it was only a few minutes walk to the train station and many local restaurants.
The only thing I do not recommend here is the restaurant on the 2nd floor. It is extremely overpriced for breakfast and dinner options and the portion size and food quality was not worth the price. I recommend eating at other restaurants that are easily walkable and for breakfast just go to the cafe downstairs.

Room was clean enough for the duration of out stay.
We had to ask for replacement towels as we were staying for 4 days.
For the duration of our stay the sheets on our bed were not changed at any point.
Staff were friendly enough.
Car parking was available on a first come first served basis and dependant when you parked you ran the risk of being hemmed in as parking were two to a slot front to back for up to 12 spaces. Spaces were quite tight to get into or out off.
The room was ok but could have done with some upgrading - parts missing off the bathroom rail heater, mould around the shower basin and some wall paper pealing.
Price was reasonable for the area.

Most horrendous stay over of my life!

Worst stay i have had at any hotel in my life in UK, Europe. Newcastle born, knowing Jesmond, I had to tolerate inaction after dialling zero to switchboard as my partner and her 14 year old did not sleep all night, due to a group of horrendous drunk lout girls making incredible noise!!!! No follow up customer service having complained through appropriate channels at midnight and before checking out.
