The location of the hotel and the size of the hotel room is good, but the actual room was in an ok condition, could be better, but I know they reason for the non-maintenance, but the problem is that the bathroom smelled of cigarette smoke even though it was a non smoking room. The staff at reception was pretty nice, but when I called ahead a couple times before my stay, they were rather rude. The amenities were basic and usable. Overall, I just hope they sort out their hotel politics soon because it's such a shame to see a famous and grand hotel get reduced to that state.

Merdeka was in a good location for the touristy spots. However, the staff didn’t really give the feel that they were happy to have us there. They did their job, but there weren’t a lot of smiles or helpful gestures of any kind. Beautiful lobby, but the rest of the building was very dated and in rough shape…great need of a makeover. Price was good, but in this case you kind of got what you paid for. The hotel restaurant and massage parlor were not bad. Over-all I had a rather “meh” feeling, and would most likely opt for a different place if we come to Kuching again (which we will most likely do).

Though the location was great the apartment suite room condition was in poor maintenance: the kitchen had minuscule appliances/serve-ware/cutleries; broken kitchen dish drying rack; water/leak-stain in the carpets in living room and dining room (one of the living room stain was even still wet when we arrived); in the main master bedroom there's a mold-stained ceiling leak above the sink; leaky water taps; mold/blacken corking in all the bathrooms/sinks; some non-working light bulbs etc. Generally not maintained.

Former glory days gone by. Urgent repairs needed.

The hotel has seen glorious days but today it is a sad reminder of how not to run an establishment. Everything need a complete redo, though the quality of the finishing is good, like marble masonry. And solid furniture. Carpets, curtains, fixtures and aircon are all outdated and breaking down.
Hope they can renovate this place soon.

As noted by others , unfortunately , a once, very majestic hotel ( is only 25yo ) is now very dated and in need of major refit. However , the rooms are large ,clean and the bed very comfortable ( if you like a firm bed ). Nothing else compatible for the location and price

disappointed to stay at this hotel

not good. couldn't access the wifi. cleanliness so bad.
toilet light and the light under the table were not functioning. Car park very dark. No proper sign to show the \"in\" and \"out\" of the car park. The furniture and equipment in the room are very old. Window curtains were very dirty and not working. Paid more for what is expected. not worthwhile. will never consider to stay at this hotel again.

Spacious with good location and view but moldy

The hotel is spacious with great bones. The view was great and the pool facility nice. But there were moldy shower curtains and moldy spots in the carpet. They clearly have a leak somewhere and just don't fix it. The fridge didn't work and the wifi didn't work.
The wifi was very frustrating because we expected to be able to work remotely from the rooms one of the days, but we couldn't even get our phones connected, let alone our computer. Wifi does work in the lobby.
The location is perfect, just blocks from the waterfront, with the free museum right next door.

For a 3 bedroom, for this price and location, it's fine, just don't count on the wifi, and expect mold. It's too bad because it clearly has the potential for a spectacular hotel.

I stayed in 2 room suite. The room is considered dirty. Carpet is smelly and many water leakage spots. the aicond vents were not clean. Bathroom so so. None of the window curtain are working.
Overall... please avoid this hotel if you have the budet

Waiting for almost 1 hour to check in. We came at 3.30pm but staff at reception said the room still not ready. There also about 5-6 family also waiting for their room. Only able to check in after 1 hour waited.
In the room there should be 3 queen bed, but there was only 1 queen and 3 single bed. Room also not really well prepared such as no garbage plastic in the toilet and no door mat given.

The location is perfect, view overlooking waterfront is excellent. Overall it is neat and well-maintained except the bathroom floor in master bathroom doesn't drain well. The outside toilet is noisy and needs looking into. It needs another lift cos sometimes it is too crowded and had to wait long.

1st i want to complaint about room, in my reservation suppose to be 1 Queen bed n 2 single bed, but when i chk in , they gave me 1 king bed n 1 single bed. I have children which i suppose to place them for 2 single bed. But i was given 1 single bed. At last my children hv to slept on the floor.

I am so dissapointed with the answer from Front liner, she said the room was given based on availablity the what happened to my booking... I already request for 1 queen n 2 single bed?!

And one more problem, no fridge inside apartment. The hotel really need to improve and renew old thing....

I am so so so dissappointed with my room reservation , the apartment look very old and unattended and gave to me and my family. Plus we are celebrating my son's birthday. I really the management can looked into this matter. Just because im local sarawakian they gave me bad apartment to stay and so not comfortable.

I was charged when i request for extra pillow n blanket which im already request 2 single bed but gave 1 single bed.

So unfair and im so dissappointed !!

This was a once grand hotel. It is much in need of some love. The beds were clean but the furniture and carpet were not. We stayed 2 separate times with a jungle trek in between. I’m the second room, it looked like the tub hadn’t been cleaned and the shower curtain was moldy. The view would have been great, but the windows were filthy. The kids did enjoy the pool and the lobby area is very nice as is the staff.

Shower hose cracked, water on floor as result- no prob though because there were two ensuites in our 2 bedroom suite. Sheets end of bed were ripped. Mgmt wouldn’t of realised - super helpful to get wifi set up, organise tours at good deals etc. Rooms very clean

Had electrical problem at midnight. initially light switches off by itself several times. later on, at bed time I could not switch the light off. Had to loosen the light bulb to avoid hassle. The bedside electrical control board can easily opened, exposing the electrical circuits. Very dangerous, especially to children

The staff were courteous but unhelpful. The room amenities are fine but incomplete (there were no robes or slippers provided, and the minibar was empty. In addition, the guide folder was incomplete, for example the channel listing that the folder mentioned was missing). The bedside room control system doesn't work very well (the air conditioner was adequate but not responsive), and despite everything being in working condition, there is an air of age about it. The bath room was very clean, but the tissue box under the sink was empty, and the sink itself was a little leaky.

It is good for a big family with children. It is spacious comfortable. 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The interior is well kept and clean. However, the windows are dirty on the outside amd we do mot have a god view of the city. There is a kitchennet but no bar fridge. Cutlery can be provided upon request. Kettle , cups and saucers, coffee and tea are provided.

This time we stayed at Mardeka Palace Hotels & Suites and booked a three bedroom apartment suite. This is a nice hotel and hotel staff is friendly, the view of our room is very comfortable, no building obstructs the view. The room is clean but the equipment is old, the location is very convenient, there is a shopping mall nearby. If we go to Kuching next time we will stay again

It is a strategic hotel where you can go easily to the places of interest in Kuching. Quiet place and near to the mall. It is only I've gotten bit by bed bugs while my staying. Its all over my leg and hands. I hope you can do something with this or your guest not happy with scars on their body.

Lovely place to stay if you're heading to RWMF. The free shuttle to Cultural Village comes right to to the doorstep of this hotel. Room is reminiscent of past luxury, which is something I enjoy. However, the cups were a tad bit dirty and they had not tidied up the room while we were at the festival

Stayed in an apartment suite with 2 bedrooms. Rooms are dated and needs to be updated. The hotel can have a historical theme without sacrificing on modern fittings. Some of the lights were not working. Cleanliness of the rooms can be improved. Room service could be improved eg water was not replenished, room service response was slow. Was charged RM10 for an extra pillow! Breakfast options limited though the Chef was very friendly and warm.

The light of bed always on . No button cannot turn off. So many dust .. the air conditioner not really cold . I keep sweating sleep all the night.
