The \" breakfast' is coffee or tea and white bread. If you are mobility impaired,in poor health or have heavy luggage there are many,many stairs from reception just to ground floor and very dangerous narrow stairs to upper floors. No elevator. It's a lovely hotel but the stairs could be a major issue for many people!

A great place to stay. Right by the waterfront and close to all the local shops and restaurants. Neat experience to stay in a heritage building in the heart of Kuching. Was a bit loud but the close proximity to the sites definitely makes up for it.

Getting to the parking was a bit tricky but eventually you’ll find it.

Will definitely recommend this hotel again!

Fantastic place

Overall an amazing place to stay in kuching, especially if your looking for somewhere with some character.

The place is rustic with a few little bits which arent perfect, but place is really interesting, with lot of history and also really clean.

The hotel is near the old town and china town, with lots of bar and restaurants nearby and short was to the river front.

Bedroom are small but everything you need, both bed and bathroom were immaculate! - (photos are from check out).

Staff were fantastic and really helpful and we book to tour through them which were also really well organised.

Breakfast is basic but again every is clean and idea to set you up for the day.

Honestly don't have a bad word to say. If we get a chance to visit kuching again, we would definitely book here again.

This was our second stay at the Marion. It's like spending the night at the museum. You can read the history of the original owner if you spend a few minutes at the waterfront Chinese Heritage Museum. The hotel is very close to bars and restaurants on Carpenter St. that can be noisy on occasion. We have stayed in the Chapel wing both stays and we're not bothered by street noise. If noise bothers you you may want to choose a room towards the rear of the property. Seems like people either love or hate this property. Place us with those who love it

Everything was actually very good but there were three things that guests have to be aware of.
1. The climb up to the entrance of the lodge as even steeper climb to the rooms on the second floor (I was ok but not all make like it)
2. The noise from the bars nearby maybe an issue
3. The breakfast. It supposed was to start at 7am and it was 710am when it opened and there was no apology .. nothing and put to 720am, no coffee. Disappointing.

Fascinating building with a really great ambience and located very conveniently for the waterfront and many great dining options. Room was comfortable but being on the 1st floor there was a lot of noise from the room on the floor above (heavy footsteps, things being dragged or dropped), something I guess is unavoidable in an old building.but maybe they could alert guests to be a little more considerate. Also no supplies like soap or hand towels in the bathroom. Shower gel was provided but in an awkward place to reach if you just wanted to wash your hands.

C'est vraiment dommage d'avoir un site exceptionnel, une demeure ancienne avec une histoire et un design incroyable mais un service aussi inexistant : pas de sourire, pas de communication, pas de proposition d'aide pour porter les bagages dans les nombreux escaliers ni pour vous indiquer la direction de votre chambre, petit déjeuner minimaliste pain beurre confiture... Bref on aurait pu adorer mais on est juste déçu

Excellent food at the restaurant on the property! Yes, it's old but it has a lot of style. If you're looking for extra hot water with high water pressure keep looking. But if you like unique style, this is the place. The stairs may be challenging for some.

Much too noisy for sleep

Beautiful old building, and night manager stayed up very late to greet us. Unfortunately, the old building has windows that were not designed for a noisy modern environment in this city-center location. Noise from a bar was so loud that it hurt my ears inside the room till 2 AM. Even after that, 24-7 road noise was comparable to what you would hear standing on the road median. No one could sleep here

We made a week long reservation based on hotels.com reviews but left after one night because of the noise. Hotel refused to refund us for any part of t he cost.

If you like a hotel with character this is the place for you. Reception staff were great, there is a pool where you can chill. Wifi was good and if you don't want to leave the grounds, nice reception rooms to read. Will be back..

Heritage building. Room 208 on 2nd floor far end the aircond unit not cold maybe need servicing or ceiling vent was not conceal only covered with mosquito netting. Reception to hotel building is far apart. Guest with car to take note gate close at 10pm & parking is limited about 8 bay & entrance from Church behind hotel building.

Really lovely place to stay in Kuching in walking distance of the waterfront And with plenty of character. There are some great views from the communal areas and a lovely swimming pool. The staff were helpful and the breakfast nice but basic. The surroundings are quite noisy so bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. Would highly recommend this place to stay!

Room exposed to noses from next doors, worst of all loud karaoke across the street way after midnight.?could not get a proper rest till 2am. Has to change hotels for next two nights but this manger was rude and refused refund for two nights.

The Marian was a huge surprise, a small reception area…then upstairs you are greeted by a beautiful garden and an inviting pool, both immaculately cared for, and perfect for a relaxing holiday.
The room was gorgeous, my only issue being we found it difficult to get warm water in the shower.
Overall though, great staff, great location and a few great cats too!

Strategic location and classical architecture

The hotel is an old building with nice architecture. Very strategic location with scenic surroundings. The room we stayed was spacious with old furniture. The beds were clean but the floor and toilet/bathroom doors were dusty. The reception staff were not very friendly. We had to carry our luggage through many stairs to find the room on our own but later we discovered that we could bring the car to a car park just behind our room without having to climb any stairs. The staff should tell us that when we checked in. We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and could not sleep well the second night as the fire alarm rang a couple of times after midnight.

Clean and cosy for a 2-star hotel. Staffs are friendly too. Overall I enjoyed my stay there! :) However the downsides are: 1. Too noisy as rooms are not soundproof. 2. Can improve in choices of breakfast. 3. Noticed that gate to carpark was often closed and locked up.

Funky Central Kuching Base

This place is a great, interesting place to stay, with comfortable, clean air-conditioned rooms and lovely sitting areas with airy windows to catch the breeze. There are a lot of steep stairs to get to the upper rooms which can be hard after a day in the jungle. There is also a lot of noise from the Chinese Karaoke every night across the road 6.30-12 and then 5am call to prayer then church bells and sometimes fireworks from the Chinese temple. Use ear plugs and get the staff to help you with your
bags and you'll love staying here, it's got a great pool, very funky and in a terrific central part of town.

The grounds is just such a relaxing place to be and the building & decoration takes you back a little to nostalgic times. Staff were very attentive & sort the small issues I was having with the room facility. The surrounding noise can be a little annoying at times but it's right in the middle of the city and it's no high rise building so it was expected. All in all a pleasent stay & for those who wants a little peace while able to explore the city I would recommend this place.

Lovely property, full of character and history. It’s central location is ideal for easy and quick access to the Kuching Waterfront and shops.

The only negative was the breakfast terrace doesn’t have a non-smoking area making it quite unpleasant at times.

Hotel full of character and awesome location!!

One of the coolest hotels we’ve ever stayed in! Loved all the touches and the character. Very Comfortable bed and nice big bathroom. Pool was really nice. The location is sooo great.. close to waterfront and good restaurants. The restaurant downstairs was really cool and we loved having a drink at the end of the day there. Hotel Breakfast needs some fresher options but good coffee. We loved this hotel and would highly recommend it.

The property has some lovely period features. The rooms are spacious, the pool great escapism from the heat, the staff are really pleasant and the gardens pretty. Breakfast is Ok. The huge let down is the unrelenting music that blasts out every night until at least 11pm at both weekends and weekends days. The music comes from the adjacent venues.

Very pretty hotel with beautiful tropical flowers that were kept immaculate.The entrance was small but as we walked towards the accommodation, it was a nice surprise and made me smile. Friendly staff and fantastic location. Kids loved the little swimming pool. Would recommend to all, particularly with children

Misleading advertising on the website

First the pros - loved the building itself & its grounds. The pool was in a garden setting & a bonus after a busy day. Staff were friendly but a mix up with our booking soured things initially. Booked a twin room on the basis of a photo on their website and description saying ten or queen. On arrival no twins available. Eventually we settled for a bunk bed as the hotel & city was fully booked for the Kuching marathon. Disappointed also by the website mentioning that the hotel was adults only & then finding many families booked in. Not a problem for us really but again misleading advertising so the result is average rather than fantastic.

The best feature was the staff who went out of their way to help - booking taxis by grab, giving advice and helping with any situation, Also goog location - close to the river, places to eat (including an on-site western restaurant with live music) and the many souvenir shops. Hotel layout is quirky and a stylish design but beware that they are quite a few steps to drag luggage up as there is no lift. Rooms secure and comfortable with air con and hairdryer but you can hear others walking around overhead so light sleepers might not be happy. Overall though a fab place and I would highly recommend it.

Lovely hotel. Thelma Cook room (mezzanine room with queen on main floor and twin beds on mezzanine) worked well for family of 4. Good pool and bar. Hotel well-located/central. Only negative is poor sound insulation means slot of noise from neighbouring rooms and traffic outside.

Service needs major improvement

I chose this place for my conference accommodation as I do not like staying in the same venue as the conference. Check-in was very disappointing as I was presented with extra fees that apply (there was no information of such fees beforehand, at the booking time). The staff were polite but particularly courteous or attentive. After at least 20 min of the check-in procedure (scanning my passport without explanation, more form filling) the staff member pointed out towards the door saying that my room is two lots of stairs, across the garden, courtyard above the pool. When I clearly looked stunned at the statement which was very off hand, one staff member decided he will take my suitcase and walk me there. This was a nice gesture but it should be standard procedure especially as the venue is a former boarding school. Breakfast was included in my booking but there was the same, very limited menu every day: scrambled egg, toast (very sweet bread), jam, watermelon and 2-3 choices of small extremely sweet pastries or very sweet choices of breakfast cereal.
Room was nice, simple, no TV which is my preference, good wifi, extra password required if you have more than one device. Bathroom is spacious, water outlet kept being blocked though, eventually got fixed. Toilet paper was supplied in tiny rolls and often not refilled so I had to call for room service. Room was not cleaned even once during my stay, except vacuum on my specific request. Nobody wiped bench-tops in the bath either.

Nice ambience and near waterfont but noisy

Nicely refurbished, nice ambience, clean room and facilities on top of a hill so expect some climbing.

However, windows are not insulated so you can hear the noise from the bar nearby even up till 2 am.
