The air conditioning system seemed incapable of cooling the room to a comfortable temperature.
The room was dimly lit and extra caution was required to avoid injurious contact with low ceilings and floor out croppings.

It was the most amazing vacation time of my life and this resort deserves all the credit for . It is an amazing place in a paradise. Close proximity to the tulum mayan ruins. Place have peace and serenity that anyone looking for a relaxing stay can dream about. Rooms are so unique and give you a feeling of being part of the jungle. Menu offer private personal polls with outdoor showers and watch towers. Incredible design of the whole property allows you to completely unwind, to soak in the sun and to feel that you are a part of natural habitat. The ability to see wildlife and be so close to it makes you appreciate the beauty of Tulum. This is truly a magical place. Food is incredible, stuff very kind and helpful with you in mind providing anything that your heart desires. I am so grateful to everyone you guys have made my week vacation so memorable . I highly reccomend this little place of heaven .

I was blown away with our stay in a treehouse suite. The structure is so unique, the views are amazing and having an outdoor yet enclosed shower is spiritual. I thought this resort would be more eco-friendly, in the sense, AC, electricity and water would be limited, however we still had all the comforts with the best experience. Thank you Ikal. The day beds on the beach, the pool, volleyball court and kids jungle gym were great additions. I didn't partake in the free yoga but looked expertly practiced and peaceful. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique experience along the beach of Tulum.

This was not only our first vacation together, it was our Anniversary vacation. We had the best time. We love animals and wildlife. Waking up to the the beautiful park views and the sounds of birds were exactly what we were looking for. The staff was extremely attentive and going in and out of the park was easy to plan our activities. We will be coming back.

This was the most fun and unique hotel I’ve ever stayed in! The beds are really comfortable, the staff is so kind and helpful, and the location is soo gorgeous. I was a bit curious about how going outside in a private courtyard to the bathroom would work, but it was totally fine. Do remember to use bug spray.

Our stay was good overall. We loved our treehouse suite but had intermittent issues with the water. We had no water for a day during out our 3 night stay. The issue resolved that evening but the water temperature and pressure was inconsistent for the entire duration of our stay.

I had the most relaxing stay at IKAL. i booked a trip to celebrate my birthday month. The hotel concierge was super helpful in booking my private airport pick up and drop off. Everything was super smooth.
I booked the maya plunge and it was stunning. The room and property were well kept. The food was delicious and staff super friendly. The wellness programs were included with my stay and were super therepeutic. I booked a private tour to visit the ruins, cenote and ven a la luz. The hotel arranged a private tour guide Nelson who was amazing. Words can't describe how beautiful this sanctuary is. So close to the ruins and surrounded by the sea and jungle. I will surely be back again!!! Mucho gracias Ikal!!!

Amazing stay for nature lovers! It’s absolutley beautiful here the staff and very kind and helpful! They have so many unique private accommodations that all have their own charm! They have a variety of activities for their guest such as yoga, healing ceremonies, sound bath ect… The hotel is family friendly as well. Tulum is very expensive, so be prepared to pay more for everything in général in comparaison to other places Mexico but Ikal still deserves 5 stars because the higher cost applies to all of Tulum. We had the best time and enjoyed this breathtaking hotel, we are already planning to go back!

I love staying at this hotel! It is in the jungle and on the beach with no \"boom-boom\" music blasting, just the sounds of nature and the waves crashing on the shore. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. The yoga classes in the yoga shala are top-notch!

This my second time in my entire life to write a review. This place was the worst place I’ve ever stayed in. the pictures and description on Expedia don’t match the room. We were given a room with an outdoor shower and a bathroom and there was three men who were in our backyard right before my wife was about to take a shower When I brought this up to the management. They dismissed me and told me that they don’t know who those men were after three hours they found out that it was maintenance, but I we never got a heads up. The pool was not working. The shower is weak. The tent that we stayed in was not clean. Our bed was right under the ac unit. Due to condensation we were not able to sleep bc the ac unit kept dripping on our bed. Huge privacy concern…. Huge safety concerns….. bad customer service….. stay away

Certainly a glamping experience. However not the safest steps in property and “room” quite slippery with little support. They have glass shampoo bottles and conditioners which is understandable however again not the safest one of them broke right on my foot on the outdoor shower. Beautiful overall. The mosquitos will eat you up make sure you bring bug spray. Quite pricey but the view is remarkable and the experience is worth it. Glad we did it but I wouldn’t return in the future. It’s a one and done experience

My stay at Ikal was phenomenal. I was looking for an opportunity to enjoy a wellness experience and they delivered. The room was just as advertised and they had a wonderful schedule of activities. The location in the national park gave us access to several beach clubs and restaurants along the beach so I could really explore the area.

The staff was amazing, super communicative and accommodated our needs/addressed any questions.

Would definitely return during peak season or visit their sister property on my next trip.

This is a VERY unique property and you can expect to have a totally iconic experience here. It’s not for everyone, but I loved it! You definitely need a love of nature! The rooms are cabins of all sort with outdoor private POOLS, bathrooms, sinks and toilets fenced in their own private spaces with trees, sand and sun! The cabins are air conditioned! You can leave your cabin ‘area’ and walk down to the beach to find loungers and an open air restaurant and bar. There are open-air trams that are free to ride that run outside the hotel to take you to other parts of the park for sight seeing too.

This was honestly the best hotel stay. I originally booked for 2 nights but tried to add one night but i made a mistake. The staff really tried to fix everything ahead of us getting there. Even though they are booked they moved around the rooms so we could stay in the same room. Their service is excellent. But i have to say i admire the cleaning staff the most. The property was right on the beach i had to walk through sand to step into my garden suite. Tried as i might but i kept getting sand all over the room. Everyday i come back after the room cleaning all the sand is gone in the room!! I know it must be very difficult to do so kudo to the staff. Also our pool in the garden is cleaned everyday perfectly! We enjoyed the mayan ritual offered by the hotel. If there's a minor complaint the shower pressure can be better. Otherwise we loved it and we hope we can come can soon!

El lugar es excelente y la experiencia tambien lo unico que no quedamos conforme fue que lo que uno escoje de cuarto online no es lo q te dan cuando llegas y tampoco la opcion a elejir si no lo q ellos tengan a su disponibilidad lo que no entiendo es porque no te lo dicen de antes de llegar el cuarto q nos toco no tenia nada igual a las fotos que muestra en la pagina de expedia,el lugar es muy lindo pero mejor antes de llegar para no tener sorpresas como yo mejor pregunten al hotel que room les van a dar porque cuando fui a reclamar a front desk me dijeron que es asi,te dan lo que tengan a disponibilidad y si no te gusta es lo que hay no te dan una solucion o opcion despues que ya pagastes

Amazing stay in Ikal, Tulum

We have spend 6 nights in the tree house room there and still regret we did not book longer stay in this beautiful place. Amazing eco friendly hotel in the middle of a jungle, just right on the beach. Located in the Jaguar park, with shittle services across the park which allows as well explore the location at ease and your own pace. Loved the atmosphere, the design, service was very good- staff friendly and helpful, food delicious a bit pricey but keeping in mind Tulum prices, it was ok. Morning joga with the view to the beach was amazing. And the Margaritas there were the best and we tried them in many places. Would definately come back here.

Great stay at Ikal Tulum! We had a treehouse with a private plunge pool which was lovely, the bed was huge and design of the bedroom was awesome. The bathroom is outside, and we were a little worried about privacy when showering etc as we could see our neighbours on their balcony, but this is the design of the room. We did a complimentary kundalini yoga session during our stay which was very peaceful. There is a restaurant on site which is quite expensive, but in line with every other beachfront hotel - around $290 for a cocktail and $390 for a burger etc. The breakfast was amazing though!
Overall the facilities are really great, with a wonderful stretch of pure white sand just moments from the hotel - we would definitely return!

Overall the place was beautiful and great. The entire staff was wonderful and so genuinely nice.
If you love the outdoors and the beach it's perfect. Except for your room and the office, everything is outdoors and open air. If you are rhe kind of person who needs carpeting, AC and hates bugs this is not the place for you. The room did have AC but the ocean breeze was wonderful

This is a great place for clamping. We loved the experience. The only negative is the guacamole at the restaurant on site… I don’t know how is it possible to get a bad one in Mexico but they managed it. All we got was mashed up avocado with diced tomatoes on top. No seasoning, no onion, no garlic, no cilantro… Do not order it there. Try one of the other restaurants on the beach.

Property concept is great, very green, spiritual. However, service was disappointing they could definitely use some training. Housekeeping seemed unable to comply to a simple request of not having still water outside the door due to mosquitoes. They also seemed unable to provide adequate towels. At the restaurant service was always slow even when only a few tables were busy and I often got served good/drinks in broken glasses/plates. That’s could pass in a taco place on the road but they are charging NYC prices for food and drinks so I’d expect a better service than that.

We didnt get an upgrade becasue the hotel was fully booked, but we got another amenity instead, which was a great counter offer. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The only thing we were not happy with was the restaurant. There are far better restaurants for dinner in the city which are cheaper and have in our opinion better food. Other than that everything lovely! :) Thanks for making our stay great!

We enjoyed every aspect of this Hotel. From the super friendly staff to the delicious food at the restaurant, everything surpassed our expectations. The intimate and private bungalows were just what we needed, and the staff kept them clean & stocked for us during our stay. They have bikes and scooters for rent, and we made the 15 minutes trek into town almost everyday. The town itself was so tourist friendly, everywhere we went we felt a sense of safety and that was huge to us. The hotel staff made it really easy to relax and just enjoy the sunshine, I could not recommend this hotel more! Such a unique experience, you will not regret it!

For starters, if you’re looking for rustic, this is a good choice. It’s IN nature however, for thousands of dollars spent, I think it’s fair to give an accurate description.
The walls of the shacks are not walls. There are screens that are put in place to keep wildlife out however, they are not actually attached in most places. There were several places in our bathroom and main room that were open gaps that allowed bugs in. The power went out several times throughout our stay and NOWHERE does the “resort” tell you about the daily entrance fee per person that you have to pay to reenter the hotel area since it is now INSIDE the national park. There was also NO mention of there not being a hotel/lobby phone to reach in case of issues — instead you are required to download WhatsAPP to communicate with the hotel staff if needed. It was pretty hard getting in and out to go anywhere as there is only one road in and out with heavy traffic. There are also many places where trash is just piled up. Lastly, although the atmosphere is pretty, the restaurant is NOT accommodating and will not substitute/change menu items at all even with dietary concerns/allergies. In my opinion, NOT worth the amount that we spent.

Our taxi driver tried for 40 minutes to get near to the Hotel, but was unable to do so. The instructions provided by the hotel did not work because there were no guards at the gate to allow us into the area. We had to walk 30 minutes with our luggage through the jungle to get there. All of this made us miss plans we had made and paid for. When we arrived and explained the situation to the staff, they did not have any empathy and just said, well we can't do anything about the government, it's not our fault. I am disabled. If I had any clue from the hotel's description that the area was inaccessible, I would not have booked the hotel. I thought I was booking a 4 star beach resort experience and what we got was a 1 star camping experience. The room was full of mosquitoes. The path to the separated bathroom was treacherous as my partner fell off the steep stepping stones on a night trip to the bathroom and injured his ankle and hip. The amenities they stated they had were not present and again when I asked for a hair dryer, I got nothing but bad attitude from the staff... \"There's too many people staying here so there's not enough [x,y,z] for you.\" \"I know you asked for this 3 days ahead of your stay and we told you we had it for you, but now we don't. It's not my fault, too bad.\" After the first night, we decided to book another hotel somewhere else because it was miserable and inaccessable. We told the staff about this and checked out, and they still charged us for entire stay.

This hotel is amazing. We stayed in a jungle garden suite and were so happy with the cabin, bed, and outdoor bath. You’re outside but the space feels incredibly quiet and private. There’s a beautiful beach and beach club, the restaurant was delicious and we ate many meals there. You’re also just a beach walk away from Kugure and Mezzanine (other great restaurants) and as a pregnant person I was so happy with the non alcohol drinks at the restaurant and matcha mama.
Go with an open mind and you will be super satisfied with the natural environment and grounds!

J'ai payé une chambre à près de 400$ de la nuit. Nous avins dû payer pour entrer dans la zone de l'hôtel, payer pour avoir des chaises à la plage. Pas de chaises sur les balcons faut s'asseoir par terre. Et le pire pas d'eau chaude pour se laver malgré les nombreuses plaintes. Personne n'est venu réparer. Aucune compensation, ni de changement de chambre. Le service un gros zéro.

Had to wait in the lobby for check in for over an hour as they forgot about us... this ultimately made us miss our activities we had planned. additionally we tried to rent a scooter but it was covered in bird poop, Spiders and the helmets were damp and smelled extremely bad. Upsetting as the beach and property were nice but the experience left a lot to be desired.

Beautiful Property in a Bad Location

Property is beautiful and serene. Family friendly, but good for couples as well. Hotel is right on the beach, had yoga events, live music, and a Matcha Mama right on site. The property is located in the Archeological Zone, which means that each guest will need to pay a nominal one time fee to access the hotel area ($4). More importantly, as of September 2023, the entire Zone is under construction and there is only one way in and one way out. The detour makes getting to the hotel more expensive by taxi and is a hassle because it takes an extra 15-20 minutes to circle around the zone. If you enjoy talking to the National Guard in a foreign country every single time you go back to your room to show your room key and prove you are staying there, this is the place for you. The staff is not very attentive, so you will need to repeat yourself and requests multiple times to get a response. The check-out process is a pain in the neck and takes some time. It's a good place if you are going to spend a few days on the property and never leave. Otherwise, its a $20-40USD cab into town or the Tulum Beach strip plus a border check by armed guards.

Front desk ladies were nice. In the middle of night our power went off, extremely hot, AC turned off texted their Whats App never heard from them even the next day. Server was really rude completely ignored us even after asking him a second time for our order. Another server ended up completing our order. Food was not good not many options. We had the most memorable and relaxing stay. This is the place to unwind, do yoga, meditate, and become a part of indigenous culture. This sanctuary has a spirit of a Mother Earth and a Mayan attitude.

Mama Matcha on the grounds is a big bonus. Boho vibes at the bar with live bossa nova? Yes, please! After a day at the beach to come to your cutest bungalow and plunge in your own pool - yes, please. Aurelio at the restaurant and Tina at the front desk - made my stay easy and welcoming. I am so coming back! Much love, Ikal

1) con- can’t get in touch with property despite them using a WhatsApp and a number that I called multiple times to update about change in our time of arrival (this was stressful since the desk is not open 24 hrs)
2) con- even though it is advertised everywhere on Expedia that this is VIP access property- reason I booked it. They said they had no idea what that even means
3) Pro- staff was friendly and the manager and security were beyond amazing.
4) I would rate it as glamping not hotel experience. You will hear the neighbors and there will be critters in your outdoor washroom. I got my foot tangled in the thread ‘door’ of the toilet and fell.
5) the beach club was great but beyond that limited food options.
6) rent a car - this area is not very walkable… although there were plenty of people walking

A great project with very poor management where profit is put before customer service. If your holiday goes smooth you probably won’t find any issues. I guarantee you though you’ll have something going wrong and that’s when you’ll realise that the troubleshooting is very poor. From water drainage issues in the shower / bath / toilet (in two different rooms) to electricity going off every night of our stay. Generators weren’t working all the time and there’s no management in the evenings or weekends. There’s no privacy in the toilet or the bath in the regular rooms. Unless you go for a treehouse or above. The water in the bath doesn’t drain well. Picture attached was 10mins after a 5 mins shower where the bath was still blocked with water.

We had a private room right in front of the beach with our own little pool. It was absolutely breath taking. The architecture is beautiful. It’s all VERY outdoors. So there is a lot of sand, bugs, mosquitoes, there was a small crab in our bathroom where the plants were. So it’s not going to be the cleanest if that’s what you are looking for. Our pillows and bedding were a little stained but nothing major def a little sus tho. There was some minor privacy issues where some maintenance man I’m assuming it was kept walking past our bedroom window to a generator which was not cool because what if we were changing or something…there’s also construction next door to us I think so it was loud during the day. The staff was very friendly. There’s only one restaurant, but food and drinks we had were so good. Matcha mama is there which is also a must. If you walk down the beach there was another restaurant. The ruins are super close. Great location. Beautiful and very chill for relaxing.

The facilities are amazing. The location is great.
A couple of areas to improve on:
Train staff.
Two (tall and slim) guys at the restaurant were constantly using their smart phone. It seemed we had to wait for them to finish their busy online activity rather than them being on top of serving clients.
When we arrived at the property, one of the receptionists told us when we had made our reservation. We replied we had done it 3 to 4 hours before hand. She said, oh well! That is why I do not have your reservation. She said well, let me see if I have any room available. I understand staff is foreign and not qualified but it just made me feel so not welcome.
We asked for an iron that never arrived.
When leaving, my friend and I said to both girls in the front desk, thank you for everything have a good day. Only one of them replied.
The place is amazing, I think staff can be invited to complement that same experience.

The room was beautiful. The view was amazing. Had my own private pool but my area was not very private. My neighbors constantly walked by my room and always had to take a peek. I either had to close my curtains for privacy and lose my view, or keep my curtains open and deal with the constant stares. The room was like glamping very outdoorsy. Even with all the doors closed you were still exposed to all the outdoor elements. The worst was the bugs. There were lots of bugs. They were even in my bed. If you're susceptible to mosquitos you won't like it here. And to top it off on my last day I found a water bug in my bathroom. Oh and the place is literally on the beach so sand is everywhere.

The way the villas are arranged at Ikal is just amazing. The outdoor garden space, showers, and bathrooms are so refreshing. It's like you're glamping but with all the necessary amenities. It is something I have never experienced before. The property also had scooters and bikes onsite for rent. The restaurant provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff was very helpful when it came to questions, recommendations, and help with anything in general. They were easy to contact by Whatsapp and by going to the front office. The staff did everything necessary to accommodate my needs and requests during my stay. Niki helped us with most of our requests and he was excellent! He was always patient with us and provided excellent customer service! I can't say thanks enough.

AVOID! This was by far the worst experience ever. The staff is extremely rude and not accommodating. The AC doesn't work and we had dead bugs on our bed. We were originally suppose to stay from Sunday- Friday but, decided to head back home on Tuesday. Power went out Tuesday morning around 4am and there wasn't any staff available to assist us since staff leaves at 9:00pm and returns the next morning at 7:00am. We were left with no power and no communication with anyone. When staff finally arrived they apologized for the power outage. They did not make any accommodations and refused to give us a refund. The beach is dirty and consists of motorized boats. This place is nothing like the photos. Please don't be fooled like we were. Please save your money and save yourself the headache. Do not book! I have never left a negative review on anything . I do not want someone going through the same experience we had.

My husband and I really enjoyed Ikal!! Hotel was beautiful and well kept and staff was very friendly and helpful! Definitely recommend renting a car. There are a few restaurants within walking distance but if you want to venture to the main parts of Tulum then I recommend a car! Taxi's are pricey. About $25 one way to the main strip of Tulum where all the boutique and beach clubs are.

This place is pretty unique. It has a very bohemian vibe to it. We stayed in a private villa right on the water which came with a bathroom. IT was amazing. The staff were very friendly. The food was ok, but the drinks were good. From what I hear this is the more quiet part of Tulum with the best beaches. Would absolutely stay there again.
