Everyone was so pleasant! The breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurt and some additional items were delicious. I enjoyed the social hour and took the opportunity to talk to a couple of people. Jose and another concierge made perfect recommendations for excursions.

Perfect location - not far by bike or cab to the beaches. Lots of sargassum on the beach when we went so we’re happy not to be staying by it. Close to town. Very safe area. Staff are friendly, rooms are clean and big. Pool is great fun. Breakfast each day (included for us) was excellent. Would stay here again for sure.

Cabs cost about $20/$25USD to beach or town but you ride a bike (free) or walk.

We recently stayed at Kimpton Aluna Tulum and while there were some positives, overall the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations.

The location was convenient - serving as a good mid point between the beach and Tulum Centro and an easy walk to restaurants and shops which we appreciated. The hotel offers complimentary bikes which were useful for getting around, although they were fairly basic and difficult to use. Staff were friendly on arrival, housekeeping was good, and the daily social hour with a different cocktail each day was a nice touch. Breakfast was also good, with a reasonable but small buffet selection and some dishes available to order.

However, the rooms felt dark, dingy and poorly ventilated, with condensation and a noticeable damp smell. We initially had a ground-floor room and asked to move upstairs, which was slightly better. On the whole, the rooms (and hotel) felt tired and in need of a refurb. Amenities were fairly minimal – for example there were no tea or coffee making facilities or slippers, or a hand held shower head which we would usually expect at a hotel of this level. That said, reception provided us a kettle when we asked for one.

Although it was nice to be in nature, we felt the grounds were much more overgrown and rustic than the photos suggest, which was the reason for the hotel feeling dark. The lower pool area was peaceful but could have used better maintenance as it was often covered in leaves and had some missing tiles. The swim-

Cons: the rooftop pool is a joke. Ground pool is in the shade and you can’t get sun. So, you need to bike 20 mins to the beach.

TLDR: save yourself some money and headache and stay here, do not fall for the trap of staying in the beach. Moreover, Jesus and Amay make your stay extremely easy, comfortable and enjoyable. Truly top tier !

My stay at kimpton aluna was perfect. Everyday i enjoyed a light breakfast as part of the buffet we paid for. You can order off the menu if you’re hungry but I never felt it necessary.

From there, you can take one of the bikes on sight (complimentary) and go visit the local sights like the beach, the tulum ruins, the national park or the amazing dining options. Everything is within a 20 min walk (max) or 10-15 min bike ride. You can also rent a scooter if you find that convenient, but walking and biking will be your best friends while you’re here.

If you’d like nice dining options, there’s something for every meal around the hotel. The food scene in the area is really top tier.

If you’d like to go on local adventures, highly recommend you work with Jesus/Amay to book a trip to Chicen Itza using the Easy Tours agency they work with. It was nice and well worth the price. Any other service you may need here (like airport shuttle) is also easiest if you go through Jesus and Amay, they’ve got the hookup.

As far as the room, pool facilities, really really top tier. Very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Do NOT waste your money to stay on the beach, you’re not gaining much value and in fact are losing service in exchange for a so so view.

This was the best hotel we stayed at during this trip. The staff is incredible, the hotel is gorgeous, and the food and drinks are top notch. The free happy hour by the pool is a great touch. Visiting in the rainy season could mean some light flooding and not being able to enjoy the rooftop terrace and pool, but it was still 100% worth it.

We had such a pleasant stay at the Kimpton Aluna! The room is spacious, with 2 clean outdoor pools. I really appreciate that the bicycles are free so we can explore downtown Tulum and go to local restaurants. The receptionists were so helpful in recommending us cenotes and beaches to go to, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip. I'd definitely stay here again if I come back to Tulum.

We absolutely loved our stay at this property! Our group came to celebrate a friend’s birthday and love the boutique, secluded feel of the hotel while also having direct access to food/nightlife. Everything we did was ~15 mins away.

The on-site pool, bike rentals, restaurant, etc. were also really nice.

Advice for future guests…
- Bring your bug spray. The mosquitoes were pretty bad while we were there. To be fair, it had also rained our first day.
- After booking, ask the hotel about shuttle service. They connected us with a family owned shuttle service who were initially only supposed to take us to and from the airport to the hotel, but they were so amazing that we ended up using their services for our entire trip. They’re a 24 hour company. 5 star experience with them.

Staff was great. Arranged a scooter rental for us, delivered right to the hotel. Property itself was very nice, and well maintained. The upper deck by the rooftop pool could use a little TLC. It was pretty quiet, pools were nice, especially on those 30 afternoons. The hotel is halfway between the beach zone and the main Tulum strip. There's a great grocery store within walking distance. Very safe area. Rooms were spacious, well kept, my only complaint is that the shower didn't get hot enough. We will be back next year.

We loved the location of the Aluna- quiet, feeling of being in the jungle. The plants are well maintained. The staff is actually wonderful- but we happened to have visited during a slow season. While there is a bar in the pool, it wasn’t staffed, which left the inside bartender and servers a bit overwhelmed. It certainly wasn’t the fault of the staff, and I don’t blame the management for making that staffing decision. However, my only requirement in picking a hotel was that it had a swim up bar, and I was disappointed.

We did not like the food. Too much stuff on everything. An omelette with cheese is a beautiful thing- great food doesn’t have to be complex, trendy, or fusion. The kitchen staff was great for a la carte orders, but the food on the breakfast buffet was really complex with lots of sautéed vegetables and sauces and cheeses already on it, instead of on the side. Is it fancy and beautiful- yes! Are your kids going to eat it? That’s a hard sell.

One thing that we noticed is that there is a water treatment plant next to the hotel property. You could smell it across the parking lot near that side of some of the rooms. No smell in the pool area at all. Rooms were fine. But if you have one of the rooms farther back, you will smell it if you leave your room. There isn’t anything the hotel could do about this. And as I’m writing this, my dogs found skunks, so let me just say that water treatment odor is way less of an issue than the way my backyard smells now.

The Kimpton Hotel is a true gem! My best friend and I stayed here for a birthday getaway, and it was fantastic. The rooms were beautifully decorated, and the breakfast was delicious, especially the made-to-order omelet. There were plenty of electric sockets available to charge our devices.

The hotel is centrally located, making it easy to access shops, dining options, and tourist sites. We received excellent recommendations for beach clubs, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. The rooftop bar offered the best sunset views it’s a must-see!

We loved the complimentary bicycles that allowed us to explore the town without needing a car. Additionally, the hotel recommended a great transportation company that kept us safe and flexible with our travel plans around town (GoMaya.Mx). The hotel was great and staff were great but a) the floors were a poor choice given open walls and getting rained on, they got very slippery many days, they need floors with more grip and/or to close off the sides better from rain. b) they had an in pool bar we wanted to try but they never had a bartender staffing the bar so we never got to try it… it seemed really nice and we should have explicitly asked about it sooner and they might have sent someone but we kept waiting until the second to last day and they said maybe tomorrow, at which point it was too late.

The newer main roads are ok but many of the side roads are pitted and filled with water. Speed is greatly reduced when avoiding these obstacles. I hope your vehicle has good shock absorbers because you will be bouncing around!

We lived the free bikes and friendly staff. The rooms were super spacious. Pools were beautiful and complimentary happy hour was a win!!

The Kimpton Aluna was a great place to stay near the beaches and DT Tulum. Rooms are spotless and friendly for the price. The food here was delicious. They also have a social hour every day with free drinks and food. Helpful staff that will help you reserve excursions or restaurants. I would definitely recommend this place. FYI, the area around it is under construction, so it might feel a bit undone. I'm sure in a few years this area will transform.
