Beautiful decor in the lobby area- however:
Our room was smaller than a dorm room with a shotty Murphy bed as hard as a rock. The pool was ice cold with a view of unfinished abandon building. Breakfast and service was good.
Hotel charges a “destination fee” which adds significantly to your room stay cost and it’s just pure profit and false advertising that it’s not disclosed when you book but just added on when you check in. Not a value and would never stay again. Location is ok.

Let’s start with “it is a micro hotel” meaning that rooms are way smaller than average… Nevertheless, the staff will do anything to accommodate you.
Rooms and facilities are extremely clean and staff are one of the best I’ve experienced in many trips.
Servers are top notch, especial marks and praises to Marcos and Javier, those guys hustle to deliver you the best of the best, both super friendly and always happy to help.
Parking is convenient, private and secured. I rented a vehicle for the convenience and price when comparing to private transportation, not that you would need it once you get to Motto.
A gym on location, a proper gym that it is clean and with attentive personnel. A pool lounge on the top floor that will provide peace and quiet. And just at the door, bike rentals, and tons of restaurants, all in 10 - 20 minutes walks.
Not a family hotel, singles and couples at most but… It will be a very pleasant experience… I don’t think you would be disappointed.
Thank you to each and every one of the employees at Motto, you all deserve a raise!!! Keep up the good service, the smiles and attention to details.

Hotel is in perfect location if you want to experience the beach and the town. As we found out if you stayed in the beach zone we don't think we would have been able to enjoy the town and all the great restaurants as much.
The gym and the swimming pools were really nice as well.

We only stayed 1/3 night stay. The room was super small. Site advertised airport to hotel shuttle which doesn’t exist anymore. Staff was dismissive. It’s very noisy in evening with the lively music from the street. Bar and restaurant staff are very good as is the cleaning staff. Just was not as advertised and we felt cheated so went elsewhere. Don’t go keep your money. They kept ours so you should keep yours!

The hotel itself is lovely. Spotless, modern, beautifully decorated. Be prepared to pay a significant tax upon arrival ($20 USD per night) and to have a fairly small room. The WiFi is also very, very shaky in the room and on the rooftop. The food is fairly good, we really enjoyed the breakfasts which were included in our package and felt nicer than the average hotel buffet. It did feel a bit cheap that they wouldn’t include a cappuccino or latte etc as the coffee with breakfast, they only allow a Americano which was quite poor. Given how good Mexican coffee can be that was disappointing!
The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a faulty air con situation in our room so it was freezing for the first couple of nights and they tried to adjust it for us. In the end we worked it out ourselves but they did send several people up to help.
Worth noting that when we arrived they put us in a room with a view of a brick wall and incredibly loud construction sounds coming from the room above - they soon moved us which we appreciated.
Also be warned that while advertisements say you will get a rental bike included in your room that is only for one of you (if you’re a couple like us) which in all honesty feels really cheap. You have to pay for a second bike rental. One per two people is… a bit weird.
There is an excellent Gelato place just opposite the hotel and some good local eateries a short distance away. The pool at the hotel is also lovely.

The room was in good condition but the service I experienced could use improvement. I asked for a robe and slippers and was told they don’t know what that is.
The staff at the rooftop bar were also very friendly one moment and then didn’t recognize me later in the day and treated me like I wasn’t a guest.

Laundry service was broken. A/C was broken on the last 2 days. Rooms needed a lot of small repairs. Elevators and key cards worked MOST of the time. Beach Club (Bagatelle) was a scam and didn’t honor our Free entry nor $0 minimum spend. Rooms are very small but functional. Rooftop pool and gym saved the trip experience along with the service from Marco & Israel at the rooftop restaurant (operates separately from the Hilton Motto) overall worth ~ $100 usd/per night, but not more…

Great value. Close enough to the town but a tad far to walk or bike to the beach clubs. Plan on renting a cycle or car if you want to go to the beach daily. Good vibe at the hotel and in the area. Will definitely come back.

The shampoo bottle was almost empty on arrival and wasn’t refilled even after requesting it, requiring two follow-ups. The fridge still contained leftover food from previous guests. The sink had an unpleasant smell.The hot water never got properly hot, even when turned fully up. The room was quite small, and the towels were not crisp or fresh/white-looking.

Customer service was particularly disappointing. Reception felt disorganised and not very customer-centric, with emails full of typos and staff asking for details that had already been provided the day before. I was given a Wi-Fi password on a typed note, but it was completely incorrect and different from the actual password. There were no umbrellas available, no partnerships with tour providers, and the location itself wasn’t especially convenient.

That said, there were a few positives. The lobby and pool areas are attractive, and the gym is well equipped.

Rooms resemble hostels and don’t look anything like the photo. It’s extremely small. There is no closet to hang your clothes. Music was playing very loud everyday till 3am in the area facing the outside bar. It was hard to sleep. The floor was very dirty and felt like walking on the street. Queen bed seems more like a full size in person. Too many light switches all over the room which isn’t efficient. They weren’t able to provide an iron and table for ironing clothes. Our room had ants.

As a solo traveler, my stay at Motto was genuinely enjoyable. The location is incredibly convenient—everything you need is within walking distance, and the beach is only about one to two miles away. If you're up for it, bikes are available to rent, or you can easily catch a cab. Although the hotel doesn’t offer a dedicated shuttle service, the staff can arrange reliable transportation for you as needed. What really stood out was the exceptional customer service. The staff was consistently friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. I changed rooms twice to find the ideal location within the hotel, and they handled each request with professionalism and patience.

There are also plenty of dining options nearby, which is perfect for food lovers or anyone who enjoys exploring local cuisine.

Overall, this was a great experience, and I’d definitely consider staying here again.

The pros: helpful front desk staff, good drinks at the rooftop bar, rooftop pool is pretty and has plenty of daybeds with umbrellas, easy to get a taxi outside, walking distance to restaurants & bars, 5-10 minute drive to beach resort area (granted it’s still going to cost you upwards of 400 pesos in a taxi).

Cons: lower levels on odd room numbers overlook a bar that plays music until past midnight, which is tough for light sleepers. Food is overpriced, especially breakfast. $20/day resort fee ($10 is a credit to restaurant). Rooms are tiny, like NYC sized. AC inconsistent - first room worked perfectly and second room wouldn’t go below 75 degrees. Bed is firmer than other Hilton properties I’ve stayed at. The beach clubs they partner with (Bagatelle and Mia) still charge a fee.

Whispers can be heard between rooms, through the connecting doors, which happen to be on both sides of the room. Very hard to sleep and no privacy. It’s feels like the people next door are with you in the room. The rooms are small, they have a desk but it’s so close to the bed it’s not usable. If you call front desk with this complaint they say no cancellation, talk to you neighbor. True story

Avoid Tulum at all costs

I would not recommend anyone to stay here based on the location. Tulum has sadly become a mafia-controlled tourist trap and it was one of the worst travel experiences I’ve had. This hotel is super nice and shiny, but beware you will be in an area that’s still underdeveloped, the taxi cartels have blocked Uber and similar services and they charge ridiculously amounts of money to take you to the beach which is less than 5 minutes away. The restaurants around look nice, but the food is actually terrible and the prices are also ridiculous. And the food at the hotel is really bad and the cocktails tasted like they’ve been watered down.
I’m Mexican and I’m shocked to see what this majestic place has become, thanks to influencers and cartels wanting to take advantage of the hype to rip off tourists. It’s a real shame.
I would advice to stay in Playa del Carmen or Cancun, where at least you can find good, regularly-priced tacos and seafood and you can easily access the beach.

One day the weather was lousy and there was only me and my wife on the roof-top enjoying the tranquility. Then the bartender came and and put the electronic techno music on. I asked him him not to do this since we were the only guests there. He told me, that he is there too and he likes the music. I didn't want to spoil my day then, but I think you should know.

I spent 9 days in Riviera Maya, my last 2 days in Motto hotel. I was surprised when I was charged additional fee at reception about US$45. As ID I was demanded a passport only a DL not acepted. Room too small, small fridge was not working, reported 1 st day & never fixed, as result my dairy products & other food stuff gone to waste!!!

Tbh this experience was better than a resort I will consider the Hilton every time vs a resort bcus Hilton motto was so great

I got bed bugs from staying at this property. I thought they were mosquitoes bites at first, but realized after the 2nd night bed bug bites. The toilet clogged and the noise around my room was disgusting. Nobody came to clean my room after the 1st night until after 3pm. I know bc I was taking a nap. I let the front desk know I would be out and came back and room was still not cleaned. I had to ask for bath rags because none were provided. Place also looks a little run down since photos were taken. In all my travels this by far was the worst hotel I stayed in. Not worth trying to save a little money in the end.

Excellent service at Motto Tulum. Lots of amenities and things to do nearby. Free parking and there are rentals for bikes and scooters, Pool is beautiful and great poolside service and poolside restaurants. This place is designed really nicely. Rooms are small but meant to tap into a simplistic hotel stay and encourage you to go out and explore. Also very very impeccable cleaning.
