We stayed at the Steinboch for four nights, the Hotel is historic so don't expect a modern room. But it was honestly fine, I liked the room, loved the Hotel, right beside an old church. The area around is beautiful, and it is close to the train station whichnis a plus. Food was also very good.

The biggest problems for us was that the room wasnt fully clean when we got there. We seen someones used band aid on the floor. Also one of the nights the heat didnt really work which left us having to use the hair dryer for heat lol.

Tbh, all this stuff I dont really care too much about. However, one big issue I had is, I am on my honeymoon with my wife, which I let them know. So one night we had music playing. Not until 1am in the morning mind you. But getting close to 10pm. We hear a knock on the door. Then all of a sudden our door opens. I walk up to the door and the inkeeper is there looking at me with an angry face and yells at me to turn it off then walks away to his room.

My wife had just gotten out of the shower 10 minutes before he knocked and decided to open the door to our room. Pretty brutal, also there is signs all over the place telling you what you van and can't do. Including for every minute you stay past check out you pay 10 franks.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay, but that definately put a bad taste in our mouth

Yes, the room was spotless, the front view from the room of the running brook and the sound of serenity were unmatched.
The church-view on the other side and periodical chiming of church bells made the stay surreal.
Beautiful boutique hotel, well maintained and run by a family with superb connectivity and just few minutes away to Interlaken city-centre, with an awesome array of breakfast.
Just a wonderful experience of a lifetime, backdrop of the Swiss Alps with picture post-card look.
100% recommended for a memorable stay.

Basic clean accommodations with continental type of breakfast. Limited English but very willing to help you with any questions. Historic property with older fixtures and furnishings. If you are looking for a 5 star experience, don’t stay here but if you are looking for affordable lodging close to train, bus and driving options, this is perfect.

We were never greeted on check in or during our 2 day stay. Staff were very unwelcoming.
The bathroom shower drain was extremely slow causing water buildup, the light level was very poor, the door wouldn’t close properly, and the shower head was broken.
The 2 chairs in the room were very musty and VERY uncomfortable.
However, the breakfast was good.
Bottom line — we would neither recommend this hotel or ever stay here again.

Very cute area with a beautiful view with surrounding mountains. Easy to get around but transportation tends to close early and taxis are costly. Enjoyed our stay but they serve the same exact breakfast every day. After the 3rd day, it starts to get old. Worth the price.

This property is in a nice quiet spot with parking and continental breakfast. Bedroom was adequate, comfy big bed although only a shower in the bath, not able to stand up in shower. Easy walking distance of the village and train station. Wish we had more time to explore the area and would have happily have stayed longer if we were able to.

I’m pretty sure this is a family ran hotel. First, you open the door and get a musty smell in the air. Next, you go up the stairs into your room and there’s no AC, there isn’t even a screen window and there are lots of mosquitoes. At night you’ll be sweating because of the humid heat. Also, the boss has a really bad attitude. This was the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at in our 20 days in Europe. It's very frustrating.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot water for showers. Only 10 minute bus/train into Interlaken, bus stop is very close walking distance to property. Hotel is right by the river and you can listen to the river at night- lovely! Breakfast was great. I would highly recommend staying here if you are planning a trip to Interlaken.

Very quiet, safe, beautiful neighbourhood! Must see neighbourhood in this area. Would stay again. Difficult to figure out how to check in initially, as the front door was locked and no entry instructions were left in the booking; but pressed an intercom button and was let in. Reception desk has limited hours, however there is a phone available at the desk to call a staff member to the desk, usually only takes a minute or two for this, so is still super convenient and easy! Wifi was good, bed was comfortable, shower had good pressure. Gorgeous building, very neat place to stay. Staff were friendly. Breakfast included, and was delicious, coffee as well. Close to train station, 2 stops (5 mins) into town, or a 30 minute walk. Such a gorgeous area, highly recommend. I totally would stay here again if in the area! And would recommend anyone to stay here too :)!

The hotel has the best view, lovely aesthetic place to stay. Great location. Good breakfast.

Check out time is quite strict and not flexible, faced some last minute issues because of it.
The first floor balcony room doesn't have a secure door , which makes it unsafe.
Recommend the hotel to fix this ensuring a better stay.

Saying all this , I still highly recommend this place.

The hotel location is excellent, especially if you have a river view room. There are limited to no shopping/ food options so the included breakfast was super helpful. The train station is a short walk away so it was easy to travel to the central Interlaken ost station in ~6 mins.

The room was tiny and the bathroom didn't feel well ventilated despite having a ventilator. Probably an artefact of being an older stone-ish building.

We are on what they call the 1st floor, but essentially it’s half basement. The faucet in the sink of the bathroom can’t be turned off fully and kept water running; shower walls leak water out onto the floor. The room is very small!

This hotel was only a 3 minute walk to the train. If you do have a car, parking here is very convenient. Our room was in front of the river running past and next door to the church. It was a great place for sleeping and the beds and room were very comfortable. Breakfast was good.

There is NO interaction with the owners, you just come and go with your key.

The breakfast offered a wide variety of choices, and the owners were very hardworking. The room was extremely clean and had the best view of the river. We slept like a baby listening to the river flow all night. My only concern was that the owner didn't speak English, but other than that, everything was great.

My wife and I recently stayed at Historic Hotel Steinbock and were charmed by the antiquated decor, soothing river sounds, and bell chimes. The onsite staff were polite and helpful. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experiences ended.

From the outset, communication was unnecessarily confrontational. Despite having paid the required fees listed on my Expedia booking confirmation, I was harassed multiple times regarding an additional CHF 7 tourist tax. This tax was never mentioned in any of my booking confirmations, yet the manager insisted on it with an unprofessional and an aggressive tone.

Furthermore, the handling of my complaint about the hotel's towel policy was appalling. Instead of addressing my concerns respectfully, I was rudely reprimanded and asked pay additional CHF 10 for new towels. This hostile approach is completely unacceptable.

The manager even threatened to deny my wife and I breakfast and force an early departure if the CHF 7 was not paid immediately. Such threats create a hostile environment for guests.

To make matters worse, the manager’s final message included nonsensical text, which indicates a lack of seriousness and professionalism in handling guest communications.

Overall, my experience was marred by unprofessionalism and a lack of basic customer service skills. I strongly advise future guests to reconsider staying at this establishment until significant improvements are made.

This is not a hotel, it is an OK guest house. Do not confuse it with the Hotel Steinbock up the road in Lauterbrunnen.
That said, having seen the number of people in Lauterbrunnen, we were grateful for staying at this guest house. Location on the edge of Wilderswil next to the river is really pleasant. There is a church at one end of the hotel whose bell does ring through the night, but we did not find this disturbed my sleep. There were very few dining / bar options on Wilderswil on a Tuesday in September. We found Luna Piccante to be a nice restaurant 10mins from the guest house.

Unique thing is that the hotel is manage by a simple, humble, and accomodating family.

Bus and train station is just 3mins walk from the hotel, which is connects to all other tourist attraction sites.

Bridge/river view is coooL!

Breakfast presentation is awesome like a five-star hotel.

At first, the nearby cemetery is somewhat freaky but it does looK attractive/unique too.

I'll definitely choose this hotel again if I'll had another chance to visit switzerland 👌.

The area is breath taking. The check-in was smooth. The hotel is right next to a church that rings its bells so if you are a light sleeper or plan to sleep late you should know this. I didn't hear the bells at all while sleeping, and slept very well. Also, the couple is very friendly, and communication was successful, but English is not one of the languages well spoken. The place does not have a lift but that wasn't a problem. I also noticed travel beds for babies. They place was perfect for us.

A Genuine Gem and Swiss Experience

Couldn't be better. Super Hostess. Best Breakfast buffet ever. Old Hotel (400 Years plus?) but that's what is nice. Not outdated , as some would suggest, but Historically a gem and that is what is important. Loved the experience, the decor, the location and would highly recommend this property. Nestled on the edge of a small town, close to everything. Sheep on the hill behind the hotel, an old Cathedral beside the hotel and a river in front of the Hotel and.... Parking included. Loved it. The bed was literally on the floor. It felt like we were sleeping on the floor. This is not a hotel. It’s a small room with a bathroom. We have to sit in the tub to take shower. They do not have a fan nor AC. They will not replace towels for three days. Will not recommend this old stinky full of bugs room to anyone.

Hotel is close to train station. Mgr. in charge was very straight forward with everything that needed to be met in order to stay out of trouble at the hotel room. First day we threw some of the towels we used so they could be replaced for clean ones. Housekeeper put them back on the hanger. Bedsheets were not changed. Breakfast was very poor. Nice place next to the river and the mountain. There is a cemetery next to it as well and a little chapel.

This hotel is located in small town one stop out of Interlaken OST. You must go this way to Jungfrau and most of hikes. It is just few minutes easy walk from the train in the old town, across a wooden bridge, by the church and a wonderful rushing river. We could hear and see the water from our room. The receptionist was helpful, cheerful and efficient. They have a regional pass for train and bus for area, free.

The hotel is very convenient to Wilderswil station and access to the Jungfraujoch railway. The old village is very picturesque with the church and covered wooden bridge. The hotel interiors are quite dated and not particularly attractive, but it is spotlessly clean. They welcomed our dog, which we appreciated very much. We booked an apartment for 5 humans but in fact there were only beds for 4 (1 twin 1 double) so I had an uncomfortable night squashed in with the kids. The cold tap in the kitchen didn’t work. The clock chimes all night, every 15 minutes.

Fabulous and Welcoming!

We love this bed and breakfast! We still have one more night to stay, but I'm writing the review early. It is central to all the sights and activities in the area, quiet, in a very nice area, large room with VERY large comfortable bed by European standards, good wifi reception, free parking. Even more important, our hostess, Renata, is warm, welcoming, very helpful and makes WONDERFUL homemade bread for breakfast. It is the nicest, most varied breakfast we've had in Europe and it's included in the room price. This place is a gem and we highly recommend it!!
