This was a very quaint and well located boutique style hotel. I believe it was rated 3 stars on line and nothing super fancy - but it was authentic. The rooms were clean and the view of the harbor from my room was stunning. It was great in the morning being able to open the window and watch the shops and restaurants coming alive below.
The thing that made this hotel and my stay incredible were the staff though. I arrived late (few late running flights) after reception has closed - but called the number they provided and the person answered right away and provided me the security code to get into the hotel lobby. Waiting on the reception desk was my room key and note welcoming me and directing me to my room upstairs.
The next morning I met Konstantina who effectively runs the hotel during the day - everything from reception to setting up breakfast. Breakfast is included in the room and consisted of pastries, fruit and Greek yogurt as fresh orange juice, coffee/espresso, and made to order eggs cooked by Konstantina. She was very helpful and very charming in providing me with ideas for exploring the town. She definitely made the stay that much more enjoyable.
Another great thing about the hotel is they allowed me to store my luggage there on my last day as I had a later flight out and almost a full day left in town. I was able to come and go as needed on that last day. The hotel was just a short 200 meters from the taxi pickup/drop off and even less distance to the harbor.

We got the double standard room with sea view, and it was an awesome experience. The room itself had such cute furniture and spectacular views of the harbor. We had private patio in front of our room (when booking we thought it was a common area, but thankfully it was not!). There were no doors to the patio, but there were a pair of chairs and a small coffee table in the patio which we were allowed to use by jumping from the window. The staff was very friendly. Overall a great experience, would definitely recommend staying at captain Vasilis hotel.

The location was perfect—just a short walk to Chania’s downtown area with great restaurants, coffee spots, and gelato shops. We had an amazing time staying at the villas. Our room had beautiful water views, and breakfast was freshly cooked to our preferences. We truly enjoyed our stay.

A fabulous quaint hotel, Vasilis is both accommodating and friendly, and a top man with authentic Greek recommendations for restaurants and excursions etc .
It is also extremely central, a one minute walk from the old harbour area.

Very beautiful romantic room with sea view, view at the old venetian port. Large comfortable room, bathroom and bed. Owner (young Vasilis) present and involved in day to day run of this little hotel. Breakfast was simple, but very clean and pleasant. Our room was in a corner of the hotel so the wifi was so-so. A bit noisy some nights (it may be just this room, not all) due to its location right on the main alley of the port. But overall, an excellent impression. The staff was also excellent, nice and very responsive.

This was the perfect spot in the whole harbour. It allowed us to experience the hustle and bustle of the city without it being noisy and disruptive to our stay. The bed was comfortable it had ample room compared to other European hotels we stayed in. The cleaning staff were super on it and reset the room daily. The morning breakfast was exceptional, I lived for the fresh yogurt, strawberries with homemade fig jam and fresh squeezed OJ to order. Vasilis was super helpful during our stay, easy to talk to, always available and gave us great recommendations. highly, highly recommend this hotel.

We had a nice size room with access to a shared patio with a view of the harbor, sea, and light house though a door onto the patio. The patio had chairs and small tables as well as lounge chairs - perfect for relaxation. a nice simple breakfast was included and the management was friendly and helpful.

Owner very welcoming and the hotel very well situated, overlooking the Old Venetian Harbour. Rooms and bathrooms are very small with no balcony. The communal terrace, accessed via a spiral steel stair, extends outside the room windows which was no problem for us but could be a nuisance if other guests used it at night. Overall we were happy with our choice of hotel.

Captain Vasilis is a great choice in Chania. Their location is excellent, with great views of the harbor and located in the prettiest part of the old town. The owners and those working there were friendly and very accommodating. We loved the breakfast. Everything was fresh and delicious! Avoid. We booked a room in November 2018 for a week in July 2019. Two days before arrival the Hotel cancelled our booking saying they had overbooked and the room was not available. How can they do this when I booked 8 months in advance? Don't risk the stress of the Hotel cancelling your booking at the last minute!

Captain Vasilis was the perfect location for our stay in Chania. We stayed in the room with access to the roof terrace, and we loved being able to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the gorgeous scenery of the harbor. Our host was so gracious and helpful during our stay. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was furnished well in order to maximize the size of the room. Chania was a great location for us to stay and be able to drive around during the day to various other places on the west side of Crete. This was the first stop for us on our trip in Greece, and at the end of our trip, my husband and I both agreed that Captain Vasilis was our favorite place to stay (even though we stayed in more upscale hotels on other islands). I would absolutely love to stay here again!

This was an exceptional place. Vasilis was so lovely and full of great advice for around the area and very accomodating. The rooms are so beautiful and the breakfast was superb (with freshly squeesed orange juice nad home made jam). The location is excellent and there is an outdoor area with an amazing view of the Venetian harbour....great for basking in the sun. It is a 2 minute walk from the harbour, however the street that it is on is lovely and quiet. The room we stayed in had an amazing view of the harbour and we will definietly be staying here again if we go back to Chania.

Perfect little gem in Chania
It was a dark and stormy night and we arrived late. The owner (the grandson of Captain Vasilis) waited up for us to arrive. We got in and collapsed to our bed to the sound of wind and rain on the windows. It was not until we opened the shutters the next morning that our room had a perfect view of the Chania waterfront! When going downstairs, we were greeted to a light breakfast of bread, pastries, yogurt, honey and an egg.The room was comfortable, but did have its quirks. The bathroom was long and skinny and my knees literately touched the opposite wall when I sat on the toilet. This was a minor inconvenience to the location, comfort and hospitality of the hotel.

A simple and traditional B & B in the best part of Chania. This is a little gem in amongst the quaint cobbled back streets of the old Venetian quarter. Vasilis (Grandson of the eponymous Captain) is very accommodating and friendly - customer service here is excellent!
Nothing is too much trouble for Vasilis will help you where he can. The breakfast here is continental style and delicious with Vasilis endevouring to make sure you sample some of the local pastry delights.
