A very nice hotel. There were not many dining options that involved any variety at all. It was a pleasant walk up to the town. There were no grocery stores to buy any food or supplies. The room was nice and it had a great shower.

Needs a lift (face and other)

Don’t expect the room in the pic - you may or may not. Every room has a balcony is a stretch and air conditioner and tv are old/small (and need replacing). And the lift is not working - buttons have been remove - guess an upgrade is coming.
That said, service and price are good. Very friendly and helpful - the receptionist even came to help me with my case on the stairs. I have stayed here before - and will again (after the lift is fixed lol)

Very simple but super clean accommodations. It was really all we needed for a home base in a great location. 2 metro stations very close (5min or 8min) walk. They have turndown service if you run out of bathroom supplies or need new towels which was nice. I was glad we got assigned a room not overlooking the street and it’s a very busy shopping area and always buzzing with people. The woman was nice who checked us in but spoke no English, so we just used Google translate and that worked perfectly well.

Are you someone who has backpacked through Europe and stayed in places that were clean and simple? This is a step up from there, but still more of a backpacker place than a real hotel. They call it a 'hostal' for a reason. Ikea furniture, one very bright fluorescent light bulb with a lampshade that doesn't blocking naked lightbulb. Rooms are not cleaned. But on the other hand, it was comfortable and clean, Wi-Fi works well, bathroom was very good, hot water, good water pressure. Curtains block the light. Small window looking at over the back of the other building provided some air as needed. Walls pretty thin on the other hand and drunk young people coming back after the bars woke me up and even an older couple just talking it louder voices was pretty audible while in the room. But location is incredible. Right in the center of everything you could want w/European charm and safe. Several Metro stations within a 5-minute walk. I would definitely stay here again. The price is about half of what you pay for most hotels. But there's no restaurant, the so-called front desk is really not easy accessible, there's no support at all if you have questions, everything uses a traditional key and you have to use three of them to get from the outside through a second door into room. None of that matters to me. It's clean safe secure and affordable and a great location.

The accommodations are simple but clean. Excellent location very near very good restaurants, and a metro station is barely a 5 minute walk from the nearest metro station (Tribunal). The only drawback is that one must walk up a couple flights of steps to enter the property which can be rough with lots of luggage.

Hostal Palacios is centrally located in Madrid and within walking distance of the main tourist attractions. The street itself is a major walking street (no cars) and has tons of shopping and eating options. I took the Metro from the airport to get there and it was fairly straightforward, efficient and inexpensive. The room was very clean with a private bath. Staff were friendly and accommodating. My room was very quiet compared to the busy foot traffic outside the hostal. My only complaint is that on my second day I had no hot water. I reported this around 5 pm and was told it would be looked after but there was still no water by my departure the following day at 7:30 am. Still, I would stay here again.

Great Location

Great little budget hotel in the centre of Madrid's shopping district. The main entrance lobby is a common area to a multi tenant building and it looks a little grim. But there is an elevator to the hotel entrance which is more inviting. Room was spacious with traditional Spanish/French doors to a small balcony. The pedestrian street is noisy but new double glazed windows shut that out along with quiet air conditioner.

The location of the property is wonderful. People are friendly and ready to help. It is quite so you can sleep ok.
The rest is not nice. There is no lobby. The hostal is divided into floors that do not connect with each other. The property really needs renewal, specially the steps on the stairs, they are so deteroriated that you can fall down any second. The room is very small. In the bathroom all you have is toilet paper, you do not get anything, not even soap to shower (of course no shampoo, conditioner, lotion, tissues, etc) There is no phone or any way to get in touch with reception. Everything is dark.

The room was quite clean but there was an old, long shower curtain in the bathroom which made showering uncomfortable.
A couple of minor issues with communication too.

Very basic and dated accomodation, but the room was spotlessly clean, the bed comfortable, (my wife thought it was a bit hard) everything was in good order, and it was very cheap. Fantastic location, surrounded by shop's, bars and eateries right in the city centre. Biggest critism is the Hotel is on the first floor in a very busy pedestrian street, which, coupled with the late night (every night!) and early AM hours bar emptying, bin collections and street cleaning makes for a lot of noise, as our room faced onto the street. We could also hear talking etc from other rooms due to what i can only describe as paper thin walls. If you're a light sleeper this isnt ideal.
Perhaps an unfair critisism of something thats out of the hotels hands.

Inexpensive and adequate hostal

This hostal is at the low end of the scale, but completely adequate if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay. It is clean, quiet abd excellently located about a half block from the Gran Via metro stop on a pedestrianized shopping street with stores like Guess and Victoria's Secret. I would not hesitat to go back.

Not the best midsummer choice

Great central location, though it faces a busy shopping street. Our room was on an inner courtyard, so no noise problems. A room facing the street is probably a different matter. Unfortunately we were there in a late July heat wave. There was an air conditioner, so they can't be accused of false advertising, but all it did was blow a tiny amount of cool air -- basically it was completely useless. Otherwise the room and bath were fine -- though if returning to Madrid in the summer I'd try my luck elsewhere.

Excellent stay for a solo traveler trying to stay on a budget in Spain without having to compromise privacy by staying in a shared dorm room. There is a shared bathroom down the hall, but this is disclosed so don't be surprised. Carlos is quite friendly and very resourceful in terms of helping you manage your stay and even will attempt to help you book for Alhambra if you have not yet done so. The rooms are clean and usable. Wifi is excellent and does work in the rooms.

The cons:
1. exceptionally tiny room, so it's just adequate for sleeping in and working in on the bed. Of course, there is no table.

It was right in the middle of everything. About 5 minute walk down a pedestrian street from the Gran Via subway station. They speak NO English. Not a word. But they were very nice. I didn't like that the mattresses were not covered with a fitted sheet. They just used a regular sheet which i had to get up and fix throughout the night. Didn't use the air conditioner. It was nice enough to leave the window open. But, it was very noisy. As I spent the first two of three days getting over jet lag, I liked the music coming from somewhere close. But, at night, it was very noisy because of a bar next door. It was open till about 4:00 in the A.M. Then, at about 7:00 the business owners started coming in to open their stores. I was taken down a hallway. At the end of the hall were 4 rooms. Those four rooms shared 1 bathroom. I never saw anyone else even use the bathroom so that was not a problem. There is no soap or anything to dry your hands in the bathroom. You do have a sink in your bedroom though. Although i did hear people put their keys in their doors at night, I didn't hear any noise coming from any of the three rooms at any time of day or night. Did hear the cleaners in the hallway in the A.M. though. It was early for me but, it was time for them to be cleaning .. There is a Mc Donalds right next to the exit of the subway station and a bus stop right near also. if you close your window, it blocked out most of noise from the bar underneath you.

I had a hard time getting into the hotel and had to wait until somebody left the building to finally get in. I was scolded by another guest for using the door knoker, it was in between 9 and 930pm. Location was great but very busy so it can be loud. I detest the shared bathroom but I was on a tight budget, on the positive it was always clean. Staff was friendly but were unavailable in the afterhours.

It is a good hostile for just one night not more! However, when we arrived there was no water until the night and then when it came it took several hours to become warm. There was no soaps or shampoo in the bathroom. Nevertheless, the location is in the heart of Madrid.

Couldn't have been a better location, just off the Grand Via metro stop in the heart of the city. Check in was a bit confusing as there were 2 hostal receptions on the same floor - we waited at one with lights on and no-one at desk for about 20 mins before we saw the other one across the hall with the door closed. As soon as I rang the bell, we were greeted. Rooms were very safe and quiet. Had a lift but it didn't work some of the time. Wifi was good. McDonald's was good for breakfast. We would definitely stay again.

The wifi was the worst in this hostal. We had to sit on the edge of the bed to get wifi connection. On the plus side, the street where this hostal is located is filled with many well known shops. Also, it is not too far away from many of the main attractions in Madrid. The staff does not speak english well but if you know Spanish, they are very helpful in recommending you where to go visit in Madrid.

We spent 3 nights here and thought it was very good value for money. We had a room with a small balcony overlooking the pedestrianised street below, great for people watching but very noisy. However the double glazed patio doors completely shut out the noise when closed. The wi-fi and air conditioning were free which was a bonus. The place was clean and the towels were changed every day. It was very well placed for seeing the sights, we were able to walk everywhere. Overall, a very good stay!

Great value and location

Not that difficult to find, friendly and helpful people run the hotel. Fantastic air conditioning. I took a room with share bathroom and was great value. Next time I wouldn't but that's my preference not a problem with the hotel. The location was perfect for me. The small balcony was good too. There was a little bit of street noise and from others coming and going, but that's hardly the fault of the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

La habitación limpia, la puerta del baño no cerraba completamente en la sección de al lado estaban trabajado desde muy temprano en maniobras de obras de remodelación lo que fue muy moles el ruido muy lastimosamente, aún la vista a la calle es buena, el elevador no funcionó por unas horas lo que hubo que esperar a reiniciarlo, pero la ubicación y la zona es buena.
